ART OF THE MATTER ——— Vacheron Constantin continues to set the standard for watchmaking excellence
For centuries Vacheron Constantin has crafted artistic timepieces that reflect the highest standards of fine watchmaking. Boasting a rich heritage that few brands can dream of today, the maison was founded in 1755 when master watchmaker Jean-Marc Vacheron signed on his first apprentice. The contract, regarded as the start of Vacheron Constantin, makes it the oldest watch manufacturer in continuous operation since it was founded. It is this legacy that continues to drive the maison forward, explains CEO Juan Carlos Torres. “The essence of Vacheron Constantin can be best described by the motto established by one of the founders – Francois Constantin – in the 1800s: ‘Do better if possible, and that is always possible’. For the last 261 years, Vacheron Constantin has nurtured this vision by striving to create timepieces that stand up to the highest standards of perfection in aesthetics, functionality and quality. From this vision, the maison has developed a unique savoir-faire respecting the rules of traditional fine watchmaking, with the determination to bring constant innovation to it and the obligation to pass it on to the next generation. “Our heritage is unique. We are the oldest watch manufacture with an uninterrupted history. But it is not being ‘old’ that is important. What’s important is that this heritage gives us a unique understanding of our past. For example, we have complete records of any calibre
ever created by our maison since 1755. And we have the watchmakers with the competence to repair any historical piece that comes back to our restoration atelier in the manufacture in Geneva. However, this understanding of the past allows us also to understand how we can constantly re-invent and innovate fine watchmaking – in line and in respect of its century old traditions,” explains Torres. Over the years, the maison has carved out an identity that balances superior technical standards with aesthetic artistry. This is immediately evident in iconic collections such as Métiers d’Art, Malte, Harmony and, more recently, the Overseas range. Featuring a stunning set of elegant sports watches, the Vacheron Constantin Overseas collection effortlessly emanates a world of travel and adventure. “One of our most important recent launches is the third generation of our Overseas collection. The Overseas has always been the sporty, elegant expression and the Overseas 3 brings this expression to an entire new level: in terms of a refined and sophisticated design, in terms of performance with three new in-house calibres and in terms of innovation, with a versatile and patented system that allows the owner of an Overseas to switch between a metal bracelet, leather or rubber strap in less than 10 seconds,” says Torres, who adds that it’s the latter factor that continues to set the Overseas collection apart.

“THE PROCESS OF CREATING A UNIQUE TIMEPIECE IS, FOR OUR CLIENTS AS WELL AS FOR OUR TEA M, AL MOST AS EXCITING AS THE FINAL RESULT”
“With every Overseas timepiece, you actually don’t just get one watch, but three different timepieces: sporty elegance with the alligator strap for work time, comfort and resistance with the metal bracelet during travels, or the cool performance of the rubber strap when you are at the beach. We designed the Overseas to become a perfect companion for our modern cosmopolitan clients, whose lives have many facets and no fixed rules. My personal highlight in the collection is the Ultra Slim Perpetual Calendar because this piece combines all the elements of the Overseas in a unique and very sophisticated way with another strength of Vacheron Constantin – high complications.” Vacheron Constantin were among the first to bring Métiers d’Art to the forefront with the launch of Les Masques in 2009. Today, the maison has some of the best artisans capable of handling important métiers in-house, including enamelling, guilloche, hand engraving, gem setting and miniature painting. “This in-house competence allows us to create exceptional works of art, combining in a new way the traditional métiers like you have never seen it before. The Elégance Sartoriale collection, launched in November 2016, is a perfect example of how the maison is reinventing the traditional Métiers d’Art,” adds Torres. With such exceptional craftsmanship, it’s only expected that the world’s elite would turn to the maison for special custom timepieces as well. While specific orders from members of royalty and other important personalities have been shrouded in secrecy for centuries, the maison’s Atelier Cabinotiers carries on this legacy to custom-make watches. “The Cabinotiers department goes back to the very roots of our maison – the first watchmakers in Geneva were called ‘cabinotiers’
and, at that time, they mostly created watches on demand for their customers. This is the spirit of our Atelier Cabinotiers today: an entire department including designers, watchmakers and artisans with only one mission: to help our clients realise their vision of an exclusive timepiece. This is a rare offer in the world of fine watchmaking today. The process of creating a unique timepiece is, for our clients as well as for our team, almost as exciting as the final result. “One of the Atelier Cabinotiers projects, the calibre 57.260 is the most complicated watch ever created and was presented in 2015 for the 260th anniversary of Vacheron Constantin. It was created for one of our clients and the journey for this piece took us over eight years. Both the client and us enjoyed every moment of it,” says Torres, who adds that “a watch is always a love affair between the watch and the buyer”. As Vacheron Constantin marches towards an even more exciting future, there’s one factor that sure to remain constant in its evolution – a true appreciation for tradition, even as the age of digital takes hold and propels the industry forward. From faster and more direct communication between brands and consumers to clients becoming more and more knowledgeable about fine watchmaking, the maison remains committed to staying true to their identity, respecting customers and not following short-term trends. After all, as Torres explains: “Vacheron Constantin has never followed trends but rather created them”. —— Discover the latest Vacheron Constantin timepiece collections at Al Fardan Jewellery at Al Fardan Tower. LAMBORGHINI —— As one of the world’s most revered supercar brands, the mere mention of the word Lamborghini instantly conjures up the sights and sounds of a roaring engine, extreme speed and those all important high performance specifications that come encased in an ultra sleek frame. In a city with a penchant for extravagance and seeking out life in the fast lane, Lamborghinis are particularly coveted. With a gorgeous showroom to boot, the experience involved in purchasing one of these supercars is taken to a whole new level. Spread over three levels and boasting two private display areas, visiting the showroom is an immersive experience Ahmed Darrag, Lamborghini marketing manager explains. “In addition to housing some of the industry’s most iconic supercars, this showroom is a striking symbol of design and architecture. It is not just a retail space; this is a building created specifically to represent Lamborghini. Designed by world-renowned architect Carlos Ott, the use of space, extreme curves and innovative engineering emphasises the design – for instance the entire glass façade is suspended by steel cables from the roof.” We’re also told that, on average, the cars on display here can total between AED14 million to a whopping AED32 million. Darrag reveals: “The most iconic car Lamborghini ever sold was the Veneno Roadster, limited to only nine cars worldwide of which two were sold right here in the UAE. It retailed for approximately AED16.5 million. This incredible car has a top speed of 356 kilometres per hour (km/h) and goes from 0–100 km/h in 2.9 seconds”.

BENTLEY —— A true mark of prestige, Bentley’s signature winged emblem is symbolic of the British brand’s commitment to redefined elegance and exceptional service – aspects clearly reflected throughout the new showroom that takes pride of place along Sheikh Zayed Road. “The showroom is the result of an AED100 million investment from Al Habtoor Motors, Bentley’s exclusive retail partner in the UAE. The striking 75,000 square foot space is Bentley’s largest standalone dealership and is set to revolutionise customer service in the world of luxury motoring,” explains international head of marketing and communications, Robin Peel. “It was designed to go beyond any previous luxury automotive experience. Featuring one of the world’s most advanced luminary façades, the exterior comprises 160,000 LED lights and is able to display a full spectrum of colours, project the visuals of all of Bentley’s iconic bespoke veneers and even stream HD quality video. Welcoming Bentley owners with the five-star hospitality that they are accustomed to in Dubai, the building also features three stories for model displays, a popular café on the ground floor and a unique roof garden offered as a private venue that grants fantastic views of the city,” explains Peel. The Mulliner room is one of the many extraordinary elements of this special showroom. Catering to a huge variety of requests, it’s here that our customers can put their own unique stamp of style on the car purchased. From requests as simple as monogrammed upholstery on the latest model to elaborate tailored modifications, the Mulliner team delivers luxury on a new level.

ROLLS–ROYCE —— With an illustrious history that dates back over a century, Rolls-Royce is often the first port of call for the world’s most discerning customers, boasting links with everyone from royalty and political figures to top name celebrities. Revealing more about the emirate’s exclusive showroom, general manager Mamdouh Khairallah explains: “The Rolls-Royce Boutique provides customers with an immersive, 360 degree experience. Spread over two floors, the Boutique features four distinct areas: the Inspiration Studio, Bespoke Atelier, Pinnacle Café and Affinity Area. It’s the place to see and be seen for the region’s eminent patrons of luxury.” Talking us through some of the latest Rolls-Royce models, Khairallah reveals: “The starting price of a Rolls-Royce is AED1.3 million for the Ghost model, however, the final price is of course also dependent on the model and the level of personalisation selected through our Bespoke programme. With highly bespoke models and limited editions, the value can easily reach a multi-million dirham range. With the Rolls-Royce Bespoke programme, anything is possible. In our atelier, visitors can browse everything from exotic leather samples such as ostrich and crocodile, rare South American woods, delicate marquetry, mother-of-pearl inlays and one-off paint commissions, to name a few. The Maharaja-era inspired cars, which were made exclusively for Dubai customers, have to be my favourite bespoke editions. So far we have delivered the Maharaja Peacock in 2014 and the Phantom Tiger in 2015. This year, we hope to unveil the final piece in this set, the Maharaja Elephant Edition.”

BUILDINGS OF THE PAST ——— Al Jahili Fort offers a glimpse into the capital’s historic past
The capital is well known for its many significant sights that offer visitors a chance to step back into time and discover more about the UAE’s intriguing past. One such venue is Abu Dhabi’s noteworthy Al Jahili Fort. Dating back to 1890s, it’s one of the UAE’s most historic buildings. Beautifully blending landscaped gardens with carefully restored architecture, this charming fort, originally built to protect the city and
its precious palm groves, makes for a wonderful afternoon of exploration. Since its reopening in 2008 as a cultural centre, the fort has become a frequented tourist attraction and is often host to a variety of artistic exhibitions and musical performances including shows from the popular Abu Dhabi Classics series. It also houses a permanent exhibition on the explorer and photographer Wilfred Thesiger.

The cal m waters of the Ar abian Gulf affords the country’s coast the perfect temper a ment for visitors to indulge in a variet y of watersports
Fortunate enough to benefit from a picturesque coastline as well as a bustling city vibe that boasts a host of world-class attractions, there really isn’t much that the UAE doesn’t offer when it comes to leisure and recreation. Water enthusiasts especially will find it a veritable playground with myriad activities to choose from. The calm waters of the Arabian Gulf affords the country’s coast the perfect temperament for visitors to indulge in a variety of watersports and, among them, kite surfing is one that has become increasingly popular. Make a day of it and join one of the full-day surfing safaris that take visitors around Abu Dhabi’s many islands. Ideal even for beginners, safaris can be tailored to offer different challenges and visitors can also try their hand at stand up paddleboarding. Alternatively pop along to Kite Beach Dubai or Kite Beach Abu Dhabi, as both locations have various outlets from which you can book lessons and rent equipment.
1
Similarly sports such as flyboarding have also been picking up traction in the region, with HH Sheikh Hamdan bin Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Crown Prince of Dubai, even spotted showing off his gravity-defying skills. With the help of powerful jets you’ll have the ability to soar around 60 feet above the water, making this a pretty unique way to take in the region’s scenic coastal views. About an hour out of Abu Dhabi city, Wadi Adventure in Al Ain is a remarkable venue that offers everything from surfing to wakeboarding and kayaking. One of the park’s biggest draws is the whitewater rapids. Boasting three separate levels, with a combined length of 1.2 kilometres, Wadi Adventure is home to the world’s longest man-made whitewater channels. Whether you’re familiar with the sport or not, an afternoon tackling these rushing rapids is one you won’t soon forget. Offering even more adventure on dry land, the park also features an
impressive aerial obstacle course, with a challenging climbing wall, zip-line and must-try giant swing. Although if its even more boarding action you’re after, Yas Island’s Yas Waterworld is bound to hit the spot. In addition to the waterpark’s numerous slides and rides, the park’s Rush Rider is ideal for practicing your flowboarding and bodyboarding skills. Once you’ve mastered those moves, head to Yas Waterworld’s Bubbles’ Barrel – the world’s largest surfable sheet wave. With a three-metre high wave that pumps through a whopping 7,000 litres of water, this attraction offers serious surfing fun. For those then that prefer a slightly slower pace, Abu Dhabi is also home to miles of gorgeous green mangrove forests and there’s no better way to explore it all than while kayaking. One of the most tranquil ways to enjoy the capital’s surrounding natural beauty, book a tour and leisurely paddle your way around this stunning eco-system brimming with lush greenery and native wildlife.

With the weather now at an optimum, visitors can look forward to a range of international sporting events. This February, Dubai will play host to several big name tournaments including the Dubai Duty Free Tennis Championships and golf fixture Omega Dubai Desert Classic. Why not practice your own swing at one of the region’s many prestigious courses. If last month’s Abu Dhabi HSBC Golf Championship has inspired you, take to the same greens at the Abu Dhabi Golf Club. The 162 hectare, par 72 course offers a full day of entertaining play. Meanwhile, Dubai’s Emirates Golf Club is the home of the hotly anticipated PGA European Tour sanctioned Omega Dubai Desert Classic, which is on until February 5. As the first all-grass championship course in the Middle East, the club opened in 1988 and now features the Majlis and Faldo course, both 18-hole courses.
15
With race season now in full swing over at Dubai’s Meydan Grandstand and Racecourse, and the illustrious Dubai World Cup set to captivate horseracing enthusiasts next month, it’s a great opportunity to jump in the saddle yourself and try the sport that’s very dear to the nation’s heart. The Equestrian Centre at Al Forsan International Sports Resort in the capital boasts an international polo field and show jumping course with indoor and outdoor riding lessons and even pony rides for the kids. One for the whole family, the venue also invites visitors to take their pick from a wide range of activities, including paintballing, shooting, archery, basketball and tennis, to name just a few. If you’re looking to shift it up a gear, then try your hand at the different motorsports available. From high-performance karting to offroad buggy racing on a special floodlit circuit that
has previously hosted the FIA Desert Challenge, the sports centre will ensure it’s an action-packed visit for all. The adrenaline rush continues over at Yas Marina Circuit, home of the Formula 1 Etihad Airways Abu Dhabi Grand Prix. Designed by famed circuit architect Hermann Tilke, this waterfront venue wraps around the capital’s world-class marina, creating not only plenty of mooring space for a bevy of super-yachts but also adding to the track’s dynamic silhouette. Its distinctive design promises plenty of pulse pumping racing with tight corners, a massive hairpin and high-speed section including the longest F1 racing straight. If you’re eager to get behind the wheel and feel the thrill of these legendary twists and turns yourself, there are various super-charged vehicles that can be hired as well as drive experience packages.

CAPITAL CUISINE ——— Executive chef Kanattage Gunawardana keeps things fresh and exciting at Hilton Abu Dhabi
Situated along the capital’s picturesque Corniche locale, Hilton Abu Dhabi remains a capital favourite thanks its prime location, cool waterside facilities and a recently revamped look. And the choice and variety of cuisine on offer across its dining outlets is of course the perfect complement to any visit. Particularly familiar with the Hilton Abu Dhabi, both old and new, is executive chef Kanattage Gunawardana, who has been based at the property for over two decades. “I am currently enjoying my 22nd year cooking for residents in the capital and travellers from around the world – all 22 of which I am proud to have spent at Hilton Abu Dhabi.” Originally hailing from Sri Lanka, the passionate chef moved to work with Hilton Abu Dhabi in 1994. “I’ve built my culinary career here, working my way up from demi-chef de partie to the role of executive chef.” He credits his mother for his choice of profession, recalling how her kitchen was where he received his first lessons in cooking. “She showed me how culture plays a big part in each cuisine. She taught me how food is linked to the seasonal changes, and the significance of fresh produce. It is her techniques of picking locally grown vegetables, and the art of choosing and processing spices to make homemade masalas that I continue to practice. These teachings showed me the gravity of what it takes to prepare memorable dishes, and it is this foundation that made me the chef I am today.” These days Gunawardana spends his time looking after the overall culinary operations, with day-to-day activities including menu planning, ordering produce and handling the kitchen budget. He adds: “We give importance to local produce. All imported ingredients are chosen based on the season and origin of the product. This way, we can focus on bringing in high-quality ingredients.” Being in the region for so long, Gunawardana has also developed a love for authentic Arabian cuisine. “Middle Eastern cuisine is great and has influenced cuisines across the globe. I believe it deserves more focus and development.
We were recently a part of the Emirati Cuisine & Hospitality Capacity Building Program – a joint venture with the Standards, Regulations and Licensing Department at Abu Dhabi TCA. The programme was carried out as a pilot project in our kitchen, where a local chef trained our multinational culinary brigade to prepare local dishes the traditional way. At Hilton Abu Dhabi, we believe that our diners, especially those that come to the capital for the authentic experience of life in the Middle East, should have the luxury of tasting local dishes as they are prepared by the locals.” Chatting about the hotel’s various venues and the menus on offer, Gunawardana says: “Every menu and dish is based on the theme and concept of an outlet. When it comes to inspiration, my first step is sketching out the seasonal availability of ingredients, and checking what local produce is easily available. Then, it is a matter of combining the diners’ preferences, which depends on the nature of guests visiting the outlet, with the feasibility of the cooking process. One thing we do not compromise on is the high quality of our food, which is targeted to the most discerning palate.” Broaching the topic of his favourite dishes brings about even more enthusiasm as Gunawardana shares his highlights: “Definitely, the slow braised veal cheek. The hands-on braising technique makes this dish a highlight of our menu. It comes with an interesting combination of sides including the ratatouille salad, candied walnuts, and a vodka and chilli dressing. As an Asian, I have a penchant for tandoori dishes and our tandoori shrimps are sensational. The dish includes a special marinating technique and the shrimps are cooked in a clay charcoal pot for a smoky flavour. Spiced cauliflower fritters, a lentil ragout, and curried coconut sauce complete this dish. Both of these dishes are served at Vasco’s and then at Jade it has to be the broccoli and almond dumplings. Prepared by steaming, the dumplings have a crunchy bite and the subtle flavour of almonds.” —— For more information and to book at table at one of the restaurants at Hilton Abu Dhabi, contact: 02 6811900

SWEET TEMPTATIONS From decadent to indulgently sweet, savour Abu Dhabi’s best desserts
—— BENJARONG
The menu easily tempts fans of Southeast Asian cuisine with an edit of classic dishes and after a medley of exotic Thai flavours there’s no better way to round off your meal than with a serving of mango sticky rice. Undoubtedly one of Thailand’s most popular desserts, the dish is artfully presented as a generous mound of sweet sticky rice sits alongside refreshing slices of mango and a pot of creamy coconut milk. One of the capital’s culinary highlights, Pearls by Michael Caines at Jumeirah at Etihad Towers showcases some of the finest dishes from the acclaimed British chef. One such dish that’s certainly been causing a stir on the epicurean scene is Caines’ white chocolate candle. This striking looking dessert, crafted to resemble a melting candle, offers a sweet burst of rich white chocolate perfectly accompanied by a sprinkling of tart raspberries and a delicate rose infused mousse that gives this signature dessert a deliciously refreshing twist. With it’s smattering of bright fixtures, funky lighting and quirky wall décor, Circo, which means circus in Italian, brings its carnival vibe to the capital. As you’d expect from a restaurant that exhibits such eclecticism across the board, the dessert offerings are equally as vibrant. The bright Tuscan raspberry semifreddo cake offers a burst of flavours with each mouthful as it combines a sweet, gooey heart of honey gelato with Italian meringue and fragrant vanilla sauce. Another great dish comes is Circo’s famed tiramisu sphere. With its scrumptious mix of quality coffee, creamy mascarpone cheese and a crunchy biscuit base encased in a dark chocolate shell. Contact: 02 6666888
Much like the cool, urban decor at Market Kitchen, the menu is packed with tempting treats as it runs the full gauntlet of flavours, from fresh fettuccine pasta to grilled New York strip steak. However, for those with a sweet tooth, you’ll be excused for struggling to avert your eyes from the tempting treats on offer. The salted caramel ice cream sundae, which has been referred to as “pure indulgence”, has big dollops of smooth ice cream on a bed of chocolate fudge sauce generously sprinkled with peanuts and salted caramel popcorn. Another favourite though is the caramelised banana cake. The dessert is perfectly paired with a scoop of rich hazelnut ice cream and crunchy praline. Contact: 02 6950300

—— GO FOR GREEK
The popularity of Greek eateries certainly seems to be on the rise in the region, with many foodies lapping up the vivacious flavours flooding in from the Greek Isles. One of the first Greek restaurants in the capital, Acropolis is as loved for its warm and inviting atmosphere as it is for its tasty, authentic Mediterranean fare. Nestled within Le Méridien Abu Dhabi’s quaint Méridien Village, it’s reminiscent of a traditional Greek taverna, complete with blue gingham check tablecloths and a lovely al fresco terrace. Much like the setting, the menu, according to executive chef, Patrick Van Velzen, has been designed to “reflect the friendliness and generosity of the Greeks”. Discover wholesome dishes such as rich mousaka and hearty stifado beef stew. Meat-lovers can take their pick from chunky grilled cuts, all of which go perfectly with the restaurant’s homemade tzatziki and traditional choriatiki Greek salad. Contact: 02 6440348

When you think of Spanish cuisine it’s hard not to think of tapas. Small yet hearty, these dishes are a great way to enjoy tasty Spanish classics such as spicy chorizo and manchego cheese, slow cooked beef in red wine, crispy patatas bravas and the muchloved egg and potato omelette – tortilla de patata tradicional. Fortunately for fans of this wonderfully social cuisine, Bravo at Sheraton Abu Dhabi Hotel & Resort delivers on all culinary counts. The eclectic menu also boasts four different types of paella, including paella negra de calamar’s seafood celebration of Spanish rice brimming with calamari, shrimps and mussels. Bravo’s famed rich, custardy crema Catalana is then the perfect way to bring your Spanish feast to an end. The venue itself also hosts regular tapas and sangria promotions and live Flamenco music making it the ideal hangout to catch up with friends and family. Contact: 02 6725149
With an emphasis on robust, fresh ingredients, flavours that sing with undeniable vibrancy and a culinary philosophy that heartily promotes lively family get-togethers, it’s easy to see why Italian cuisine has endeared itself into the hearts of food aficionados from all walks of life. Savour all the charm and authenticity you’ve come to love about this scrumptious cuisine with a visit to Bocca at Hilton Abu Dhabi. To start, the antipasti selection is seriously tempting. Tuck into plump buffalo burrata, truffle tapenade carpaccio and the ever-popular vitello tonnato – thinly sliced veal with tuna tartar. For mains, you can’t fault the tantalising seafood linguine with a hint of chilli or the succulent veal escallops with Parma ham, sage and Romanesco broccoli. Finally round off your meal with a silky pannacotta that’s made with camel milk for a unique regional twist. Contact: 02 6924160

HERITAGE VILLAGE Designed to resemble a traditional oasis village, this quaint attraction provides an interesting glimpse into the emirate’s past. There’s a Bedouin tent, reconstructions of original date-palm houses, an example of the ancient falaj irrigation system and a small spice shop selling dried herbs and other trinkets.

EMIRATES PALACE The iconic palace takes pride of place at the tip of the Abu Dhabi Corniche and embodies the luxury lifestyle the capital has cultivated. Until recently, the most expensive hotel ever to be built, the impressive structure is richly adorned with precious materials. Twelve different shades of marble can be spotted in the cavernous atrium, while the central dome holds dual records as both the largest in the world and the greatest gilded expanse ever created in one building.

ASK THE CONCIERGE
Paawan Arora, concierge at Jumeirah at Etihad Towers offers his top visitor recommendations
1
Abu Dhabi, the capital city of the UAE, is the ideal gateway to this amazing country and the Gulf region. It offers a unique blend of history, tradition and heritage combined with a modern outlook, cosmopolitan lifestyle and an impressive urban infrastructure. While the cooler months are among the best times of the year to visit, one can experience the warmth and generosity of the emirate all year round. From traditional souks and upscale shopping malls to sandy beaches, lavish resorts, dune drives and yacht cruises, this destination welcomes all travellers and visitors. There are a great many al fresco activities for guests to get involved in around this time of year. Some of my top recommendations include an evening desert safari and dinner under the stars at an authentic Bedouin camp, a day trip to Al Ain to explore Jebel Hafeet mountain, Al Ain Zoo and the area’s camel markets, as well as a visit to Mina Zayed where you can shop at local fish markets, date markets and the city’s famous carpet souk. There’s also plenty to see along the coastline and cruising around the Arabian Gulf is a wonderful way to spend the day.
“THERE’S ALSO PLENT Y TO SEE ALONG THE COASTLINE AND CRUISING AROUND THE AR ABIAN GULF IS A WONDERFUL WAY TO SPEND THE DAY”
1 Ray’s Bar, Jumeirah at Etihad Towers 2 Abu Dhabi skyline 3 Ferrari World Abu Dhabi
T he Sheik h Zayed Grand Mosque is undoubtedly one of Abu Dhabi’s most attractive and engaging venues. It showcases the vision, passion and love that late HH Sheikh Zayed bin Sultan Al Nahyan had for the UAE. I’d suggest visitors join one of the daily guided tours to learn more about this architectural masterpiece. For families, a stop at Yas Island is a must. The destination boasts of world-class attractions such as Yas Waterworld, Ferrari World Abu Dhabi, Yas Mall, Yas Marina Circuit and Yas Beach. Zayed Sports City is another great place for all to enjoy, with tennis, football, bowling, cycling, paintball and so much more all available under one roof. I believe one of the capital’s best areas is around the Corniche Breakwater. Perfect for a sunset stroll, wander along the seaside walkways and enjoy the ocean and city views. Marina Mall, Heritage Village, Abu Dhabi Sailing Club and Abu Dhabi Theatre are some of the key attractions that can be found in this area. Other great spots to admire Abu Dhabi’s amazing sunset vistas include Jumeirah at Etihad Towers’ Observation Deck at 300, which provides mesmerising panoramas of the city below – the venue also offers a spectacular afternoon tea. The hotel’s popular Ray’s Bar then serves innovative cocktails and an Asian influenced tapas menu perfect for sunset sessions. Elsewhere Abu Dhabi’s nightlife presents a little something for everyone, from the tropical beach bar vibes and live music. However if you’re looking for a more exclusive dining experience, I suggest Brasserie Angélique at Jumeirah at Etihad Towers. Elegant and sophisticated, this award-winning French restaurant will offer an unforgettable evening.
