WELCOME With an ever-expanding airport, a vast collection of first-class hotels and a host of outstanding attractions, it is little wonder that Abu Dhabi is firmly established as one of the region’s leading destinations for the meetings and events industry. The capital’s substantial offering led to the emirate welcoming 10.27 million international visitors last year, while the number of hotel guests increased by 3.94 percent compared to 2017. But that has not stopped the capital from pushing ahead with plans to add to its impressive offering as it aims to welcome even more visitors. The Department of Culture and Tourism - Abu Dhabi recently revealed it will spend US$136 million (AED500 million) as part of a marketing campaign, while the expansion of Saadiyat Cultural District has been given the green light and work is set to commence on Guggenheim Abu Dhabi and Zayed National Museum. These new developments will be joined by a slew of five-star hotels which are due to open in the coming years, providing even more choice for those planning an event in the city. In this issue we aim to streamline that search by taking a closer look at the leading event venues, incentive options and essential activities that make Abu Dhabi the ideal destination for event planners around the world.

Need to know
ABU DHABI This handy guide will help you make the most of your time in the capital Geography Divided into three municipal regions: Al Ain in the east, Al Gharbia in the west and the city of Abu Dhabi in the centre, the UAE capital is the largest of the seven emirates. Comprised of more than 200 islands, it is located on the northeastern part of the Arabian Gulf and borders Oman to the east and Saudi Arabia to the south.
Getting there Abu Dhabi is ideally placed to link with destinations across Africa, Asia and Europe. The main hub, Abu Dhabi International Airport (AUH), serves more than 100 destinations and its reach is growing all the time. This year it is set to open a new terminal that will increase its capacity to more than 50 million passengers per year. Meanwhile, Al Bateen Executive Airport caters predominantly to corporate and business jet traffic.
The Basics Arabic is the official language throughout the emirate, although English is widely spoken and understood, while Islam is the official religion of the UAE. The working week is from Sunday to Thursday, with a Friday and Saturday weekend. The currency is the UAE dirham (AED), which is pegged to the US dollar at US$1 = AED3.67. A good mobile network is available and you can avoid roaming charges by buying a local SIM, while free Wi-Fi is available at various locations.
Weather Abu Dhabi has a sub-tropical climate with hot summers, warm winters and little rainfall. During the peak of summer, temperatures can reach around 45 degrees Celsius. The cooler months are from November to March when the temperature is around 24 degrees Celsius during the day.
Arranging a visa Visas on arrival are available for a wide selection of nationalities, while citizens of some countries can apply for a tourist, transit or visit visa prior to their trip. If you intend to shop before boarding, it’s best to check all of the duty free allowances in advance at abudhabiairport.ae. In addition, some medications that may be
purchased over the counter in other countries are classified as controlled substances in the UAE and are illegal to possess. Therefore, it’s wise to carry a doctor’s prescription along with any medication that is brought into the country.
Ramadan One of the most important times of the year is Ramadan, as during this period the UAE observes the Holy Month. Muslims fast during daylight hours and, as a sign of respect, visitors are required to do the same when in public. Non-Muslims are also expected to refrain from eating, drinking or smoking in public spaces during daylight hours. The sale of alcohol is also restricted. Ramadan also affects business hours, with work days shortened by two hours according to the country’s labour laws. Dates follow the Islamic lunar calendar and, in 2019, Ramadan is expected to begin on May 5.
Dress code Although the attitude towards dress is fairly liberal throughout the seven emirates, it is wise to show respect for the local culture by covering bare shoulders and legs. This is especially important when visiting government offices, religious sites and places of work. Visitors should also dress conservatively during the Holy Month of Ramadan.
Where to stay Abu Dhabi boasts a huge choice of world-class hotels, with everything from island resorts to sleek business properties. Key areas popular with visitors include Yas Island, Saadiyat Island and the Corniche, while Capital Centre is ideal for those visiting for business.
What to see and do With an array of attractions and sights to explore, there is plenty to keep visitors entertained in the capital. Cultural venues include Louvre Abu Dhabi , Qasr Al Hosn and Sheikh Zayed Grand Mosque, while theme parks Ferrari World Abu Dhabi and Warner Bros. World Abu Dhabi are equally popular with tourists. Yas Marina Circuit is another great option, thanks to its wealth of activities.

GETTING AROUND
More to explore A vast array of transport options makes it easy to explore all the emirate has to offer, from the picturesque islands to the garden city of Al Ain HAIL A RIDE
MAKING WAVES
The most popular, efficient and inexpensive way to navigate the city is by taxi. These can be booked in advance by calling the TransAD hotline on 600 535353 or via the free Abu Dhabi Taxi app. Alternatively, taxis can be hailed from the side of the road. Taxis are metered and journeys begin at AED5 when flagged down and AED12 when booked. Uber is also available throughout the emirate, as is local car booking service Careem.
One of the more interesting ways to explore all the emirate has to offer is via various forms of water transportation. Proving particularly popular with visitors to the capital, the Abra Water Hopping Service, operated by Captain Tony’s, provides a practical, affordable and attractive transport solution between three popular destinations. The daily service on a traditional abra runs between the Khor Al Maqta Hotels, Eastern Mangroves and Yas Island. Another option is the Jalboot Ferry that has daily services from 12pm to 8pm with four stop-off points - Abu Dhabi Mall, Yas Marina, Fairmont Bab Al Bahr and Etihad Towers. Private bookings and other experiences on-board the Jalboot are also available.

HIT THE ROAD There are a number of car rental companies in Abu Dhabi, with Avis, Hertz and Thrifty Car Rental among the most popular in the market. All three companies have branches at Abu Dhabi International Airport, as well as throughout the city. To hire a car you will need a copy of your passport, credit card and a valid driving licence from your home country, or an international driving licence. Should you require a more luxurious vehicle, then Apex stocks brands such as Rolls-Royce, Ferrari, Porsche and Bentley, which are available to rent on a daily basis. avis.ae, hertz.ae, thriftyuae.com For luxury cars, visit apexluxurycarhire.com
ON THE BUSES The capital boasts a comprehensive network of buses with close to 650 tackling more than 95 service routes throughout the emirate. At the airport there is a service that departs every 40 minutes from Terminal 1, 2 and 3. This costs just AED4 and reaches the city centre in around 45 minutes. Meanwhile, for those staying on Yas Island, the Yas Express is a free shuttle bus service that runs daily and stops at the major tourist attractions. The Blue Express operates from 9:30am to 10pm (weekdays) and 9:30am to 12am (weekends) and connects guests from all hotels on the island to Ferrari World Abu Dhabi, Yas Mall and Yas Waterworld. INSIGHT | Aviation
Plotting a new path Armed with fresh ideas and creative plans, Abu Dhabi’s aviation sector is successfully navigating its way through turbulent times The past few years have presented numerous challenges for the global aviation industry with the oil price slump and political instability directly impacting carriers around the world. The Middle East has not been immune to the developments, but the key players in Abu Dhabi have showed a great deal of resilience and have identified a number of strategies that will help them flourish in the years to come. Abu Dhabi International Airport is in the midst of a major expansion that will see arrival numbers soar in the coming years, while Etihad Airways has undergone a divisional revamp as it looks to add to its fleet and identify a host of new routes. Armed with these strategies, it is clear that the aviation industry will continue to play an instrumental role as the capital looks to tourism to advance its economic diversification.
An Essential Expansion As Abu Dhabi continues to add to its burgeoning portfolio of attractions, the emirate is witnessing a significant rise in the number of visits. During 2018, visitor numbers grew to 10.27 million with growth across a range of sectors. This included 350,000 cruise visitors docking at its shores and more than 2.6 million visits to cultural sites. Additionally, the city remains a popular stopover destination for those travelling from east to west or vice-versa, with Abu Dhabi International Airport handling in excess of 16 million passengers in the first nine months of last year. In order to cope with the steadily rising numbers, the airport is in the midst of a major renovation that will see it handle more than 50 million passengers annually. The centrepiece of this development is the highlyanticipated Midfield Terminal project that
is expected to be completed later this year. Featuring the latest immigration controls and even artificial intelligence, the US$2.94 billion (AED10.8 billion) terminal will be able to process 11,000 passengers per hour, while the state-of-the-art baggage handling system will handle more than 19,000 pieces of luggage in 60 minutes. “These developments will enable a significant boost in economic contributions from the travel and tourism sector,” said Bryan Thompson, CEO, Abu Dhabi Airports. “It is a truly transformational project, especially from an operations perspective. It introduces a new expanded capacity for the airport and allows for more business and growth opportunities.” As well as introducing a new terminal, Abu Dhabi International Airport recently introduced Super-Fi, which provides

The airport is in the midst of a major renovation that will see it handle more than 50 million passengers annually internet upload and download speeds of up to 200mbps per user, in all three of the current terminals. Providing passengers with free super-fast WiFi connectivity is crucial, according to Thompson. He added: “We understand just how important WiFi has become to the travelling public. At Abu Dhabi Airports, we value our customers first and foremost, placing a primary focus on their experiences while coming and going from the UAE’s capital. Access to fast internet is a crucial factor that makes a big difference for our travellers.”
New Strategies In a further bid to increase the number of visitors to Abu Dhabi, Etihad Airways CEO, Tony Douglas, indicated that the airline will focus more on flying passengers to and from the capital, rather than carrying globe-trotters between continents. “The eventual aim of this process is for Etihad to be in the best shape to ensure its long-term sustainability, enabling it to meet the challenges of an aviation industry in constant flux,” Douglas stated in July last year. This came as part of an overarching restructuring that saw the Abu Dhabibased airline adopt a new business structure which was split into seven divisions. These covered operations, commercial activities,

maintenance, finance, human resources, support services and transformation. “We are already seeing positive results and we are now well-equipped to deliver our plans as a reinvigorated innovator brand, with an optimised and profitable network, technologically-advanced fleet, and a strengthened position as the global airline of choice, run by a seasoned team of talented professionals,” said Douglas. A major part of the new strategy has been to identify new routes and reach an agreement with Airbus and Boeing for the delivery of new aircraft. This has led to Etihad Airways scrapping some of the less successful flight paths such as San Francisco and Edinburgh and instead opening up a new route to
Barcelona, while also strengthening its commitment to China. Now all 28 weekly services to Beijing, Chengdu, Shanghai and Hong Kong will use the upgraded 787-9 Dreamliner instead of the A330-200. “China is an incredibly important market for Etihad and we have significantly grown our presence there since launching services to Beijing in 2008,” said Robin Kamark, Etihad Aviation group CCO. “Abu Dhabi’s non-oil trade shows that China is among the top five countries with key trade relations with the emirate.” The number of Chinese tourists visiting the capital has grown substantially in recent years, thanks in large to Etihad signing codeshare agreements with partner airlines and the mutual visa-exemption policy that was implemented between the UAE and China in January 2018. The Abu Dhabi-based airline is also set to add to its fleet in the coming years, having agreed to take delivery of five Airbus A3501000s, six Boeing 777-9s and 26 A321neos. This is in addition to plans to introduce a premium economy cabin to offer a wider variety of fares. In a bid to enhance the quality of its service, Etihad is also embarking on a digital transformation journey and recently announced a strategic partnership with Microsoft to launch the first AI Academy in the region. The aim of this facility is to help the airline revolutionise the way it serves its customers by upskilling its workforce, optimising operations and creating alternative revenue streams. With Etihad clearly looking to the future and Abu Dhabi International Airport close to completing a major expansion, the aviation sector in the emirate is set to go from strength to strength.

Placing a strong emphasis on nature, the development will seek to conserve the existing trees and wildlife, creating a coastal ‘retreat’ similar to The Hamptons in New York. The initial phase, called Al Jurf Gardens, is set to open in 2021, while two further phases, Jiwar Al Qasr and Marsa Al Jurf, will boast two marinas, beach clubs, hotels, shops, a wellness resort and a museum.

A unique proposition Despite a record breaking year, Abu Dhabi Convention Bureau has adopted several new strategies to help the capital stand out in a crowded marketplace
1
Tasked with establishing Abu Dhabi as a leading destination for the meetings and events industry, the Abu Dhabi Convention Bureau (ADCB) has enjoyed a great deal of success in the almost six years since its inception. Targeting the most influential conferences and largest exhibitions, the number of events held in the capital has risen from 36 in 2016 to more than 100 last year. Thanks to numerous successful bids in recent years, the emirate is poised to enjoy a fruitful 2019. Abu Dhabi has already staged the Special Olympics World Games, while the 24th World Energy Congress in
September is expected to bring thousands of visitors to the city. “The World Energy Council’s Congress is an extremely influential event, gathering the world’s energy leaders together to address the challenges of providing sustainable energy,” says Mubarak Al Shamsi, Director of ADCB. “The UAE’s success in attracting the congress to the emirate - which has never been held in the Gulf region - is a testament to the UAE’s thought leadership in the energy sector. “Equally important was the hosting of the Special Olympics World Games 2019. Not only did hosting the event reinforce
the emirate’s reputation for hosting internationally significant events, but it also reflected the desire of Abu Dhabi and the UAE to further integrate People of Determination into the community. Furthermore, it promoted social change for people with intellectual disabilities to create a more inclusive society.” In addition to hosting these high-profile events, successful bids will see the IAVE World Volunteer Conference 2020 and the World Chefs Congress 2022 taking place in Abu Dhabi. Yet, despite the success of ADCB in

attracting an ever-growing number of conferences, the bureau is constantly employing fresh initiatives and focusing on new sectors within the events industry. This is vitally important given the competition not just regionally, but also around the world, as Al Shamsi explains. “The focus on the scientific and medical sectors remains, while the academia and healthcare eco-system in Abu Dhabi continues to be strong. But this year we are also looking to reach the urban solutions and professional services sector. “We have also adopted several strategies to attract more events to Abu Dhabi, one of them being working closely with international meeting planners. We help them to understand the potential opportunities here – so this covers everything from destination assets and countering misconceptions to helping them sell onwards to their stakeholders.” Complementing these initiatives are the capital’s bold plans to invest in building new attractions and hotels. The Abu Dhabi government has also revealed plans for a US$13.61 billion (AED50 billion) stimulus to help drive growth in the non-oil sector. A portion of these funds will be used to improve the events industry and ensure that Abu Dhabi continues to build on its already substantial offering for both corporate and leisure guests. “A destination’s attractiveness in terms of leisure offerings can be a key consideration for certain meeting planners and event organisers,” says Al Shamsi. “With the advent
of ‘bleisure’ – combining business with leisure amongst millennial travellers - their motivation to attend a conference or meeting can be heavily influenced by the destination’s tourism offerings. “Additionally, the stimulus will be used as a catalyst to launch trade exhibitions and conferences, while also adding diversity to the industry eco-system. It will enable us to bid for certain globally significant events that require substantial investment from the host city. A portion of the fund will also be allocated to industry development initiatives such as training.” This significant investment will help to ensure Abu Dhabi’s appeal to planners

around the world, while the ADCB also strives to maintain long-term working relationships with clients so they are aware of all the developments taking place within the capital. Additionally, Al Shamsi is confident that Abu Dhabi can profit from Dubai hosting a World Expo in 2020 as it will provide an opportunity for the capital to showcase its unique proposition to visitors from around the world. “The Expo 2020 Dubai Bureau and DCT Abu Dhabi (the capital’s department of culture and tourism) recently signed a memorandum of understanding (MoU) to coordinate our work across different fields to promote the Expo,” he adds. “It sets out a number of key areas in which the two entities will work together, including research, analytics, marketing, communications and of course meetings and exhibitions. Ultimately, each destination has its own unique selling points and propositions, and with the right strategy, all of the emirates and the wider Gulf states can attract different visitor segments.”

MEET | Lead Venue

The main event
With first-rate facilities and a prime location, Abu Dhabi National Exhibition Centre is one of the region’s most in-demand venues In recent years Abu Dhabi has looked to move away from a reliance on natural resources and instead accelerate growth within non-oil and knowledge-based sectors. To help achieve this, the emirate is establishing itself as a leading destination for the meetings and events industry. Crucial to attracting corporate visitors to the capital is Abu Dhabi National Exhibition Centre (ADNEC). Located within the bustling Capital Centre district, just a 15-minute drive from Abu Dhabi International Airport, the sprawling complex boasts 133,000 square meters of f lexible event space, a dedicated convention centre that
offers f lexible seating for up to 6,000 delegates and 20 meeting rooms that accommodate between 20 and 200 delegates. The facility also has two on-site hotels, while 4,000 hotels rooms are within a ten-minute drive of ADNEC. This excellent offering has led to a growing number of events taking place in the capital, which in turn is bolstering the emirate’s reputation within the events industry. “ADNEC and Al Ain Convention Centre combined held a record 502 events in 2018, compared to 442 events in 2017. There were 57 exhibitions and 19 specialised conferences, which saw ADNEC’s direct and indirect impact
on the Abu Dhabi economy in 2018 registering US$928 million (AED3.41 billion),” reveals Khalifa Al Qubaisi, COO of Abu Dhabi National Exhibitions Company. “On top of this impressive showing, ADNEC won the rights to hold five major international conferences and submitted bids for 22 conferences in collaboration with our strategic partners including Abu Dhabi Convention Bureau and several local and federal associations, in comparison to 19 bids submitted in 2017, registering a 16 percent growth. “Notable among these conferences are the International Society of Nephrology World Congress of
1

Nephrology (ISN WCN); the Annual Conference of the International Society for Pediatric and Adolescent Diabetes (ISPAD); the International Baccalaureate Africa, Europe, Middle East (IB AEM) Regional Conference, and the World Association for Psychosocial Rehabilitation (WAPR) Congress. They will be held in Abu Dhabi over the next few years and all are set to mark their debut in the Middle East.” This schedule of events is even more impressive given the competition that exists both regionally and internationally. There is a growing demand for first-class venues and standing out in a crowded market is far from simple. However, Al Qubaisi believes Abu Dhabi’s offering helps provide a competitive advantage. “Abu Dhabi has strong connectivity with major global cities, and we can provide cutting edge infrastructure,” he explains. “These factors, combined with the strong backing of our government in the exhibition business tourism sector, makes the emirate an attractive destination. “Additionally, when it comes to competition with other venues, ADNEC sees its role as being a complement to other regional players in our collective efforts to foster the MICE sector in the Middle East. As such, our relationship with them is more collaborative than competitive.”
A DNEC is also striving to improve its offering and in recent years has introduced new innovations and upgraded its facilities. An Innovation Lab, a dedicated space for employees to brainstorm, was opened in 2017 and proved particularly successful. It also led to the venue opening up a creative space for delegates to be inspired. Officially opened earlier this year, The Hive is spread across 865 square metres and is filled with flexible and modular furniture that can be arranged to suit a planner’s needs. The venue also boasts an 80-seat auditorium and multiple private meeting rooms with a spectrum of colours, textures and materials that bring the space to life. “Reaction to The Hive has been very, very positive,” says Al Qubaisi. “We have also introduced a dedicated Experience Manager for the venue who can assist with all aspects of pre-event planning and provide concierge services while the event is live. “On top of this, as a new kind of venue experience for conducting meetings, we have created ADNEC Meeting Format Directory, which guides discussions with clients to ensure enriched and enhanced outputs. “We have also recently adopted an Online Ordering System that provides a simple and convenient solution to the client’s servicing needs
with an Amazon-like experience. This means exhibitors can choose from an extensive menu of services available through ADNEC, including IT support, cleaning, security, F&B and furniture delivery. “Clients can make their selections, specify their booth number and schedule the desired time for delivery. Once the purchase is completed, ADNEC will be able to service and monitor the status of the order online, which significantly reduces not only paperwork but also the time and resources required to enter orders into the system.” As well as continuously improving on the offering and the services that are available within ADNEC, Abu Dhabi National Exhibitions Company are working on numerous strategies that will continue to drive visitors for years to come. And for Al Qubaisi and his team, this means working in coordination with the government to ensure Abu Dhabi remains a destination of choice for business travellers around the world. He adds: “Our strategy is aligned with Abu Dhabi Economic Vision 2030, therefore, our focus is to attract events that have the potential to grow in support of Abu Dhabi’s non-oil GDP growth as business diversification is critical to the ongoing success of the emirate’s progressive development agenda.”

AL JAHILI FORT
Capital of culture Abu Dhabi may be a thriving modern metropolis but it is determined to preserve the past and embrace its rich heritage
Once a sleepy desert outpost, Abu Dhabi has enjoyed a rapid transformation to become a pioneering Middle Eastern city complete with futuristic skyscrapers and modern attractions. Despite this meteoric rise, the emirate has made sure not to lose touch with its traditions and has always placed an emphasis on highlighting its fascinating history. Gaining a reputation as a centre for culture, the UAE capital is home to striking museums, charming art galleries and an exquisite mosque. These contemporary venues have joined a collection of ancient watchtowers and historic forts that provide a glimpse into the past of the ever evolving emirate.
QASR AL HOSN Built in the 1760s as a watchtower and later transformed into a fort, Qasr Al Hosn was the first permanent structure in Abu Dhabi. Over the centuries it was home to a consultative counsel, a national archive and the ruling Al Nahyan family. Transformed into a museum in 2018 after more than a decade of intensive conservation and restoration work, it now tells the story of the emirate’s transformation from a pearling and fishing village in the 18th century to a thriving modern city. Those visiting will have the chance to experience cultural workshops, performances and
events as well as discover ancient artefacts, pictures and documents dating as far back as 6,000 BC. ) +971 2 4440444 qasralhosn.ae
LOUVRE ABU DHABI More than a decade in the making, this iconic art and civilisation museum showcases everything from prehistoric artefacts right through to contemporary artwork. Covering 24,000 square metres, Louvre Abu Dhabi has 23 permanent galleries where visitors will discover famous pieces from renowned artists such as Vincent van Gogh, Leonardo da Vinci, Pablo Picasso and Andy Warhol. There

SHEIKH ZAYED GRAND MOSQUE One of the most popular tourist attractions in the emirate, Sheikh Zayed Grand Mosque is renowned for its striking architecture and sparkling white marble exterior. Opened in 2007 and still the third largest mosque in the world, it can accommodate as many as 40,000 worshippers, with more than 7,000 able to gather in the main prayer hall. It is here visitors will discover a huge 12-tonne crystal chandelier, the world’s largest handknotted carpet and 96 columns that are clad with marble and inlaid with mother of pearl.
MANARAT AL SAADIYAT
AL JAHILI FORT
Literally translating as a ‘place of enlightenment’, this art destination opened in 2009 and continues to regularly host workshops for children and adults in topics such as printmaking, self-portraits and figure drawing. Located within the Saadiyat Cultural District, the venue offers a wide variety of exhibitions, performances, productions, conferences and talks all year round. The site also features a 250-seat auditorium, an outdoor events terrace, a café and brasserie, three galleries for temporary exhibits, a photography studio and an art studio. It is also the home of the annual Abu Dhabi Art fair which takes place every November.
One of the largest forts in the UAE, Al Jahili was built in Al Ain back in the 1890s and has served as a watchtower, an army base and a summer home for the UAE’s ruling family. Restored by the Abu Dhabi Authority for Culture and Heritage between 2007 and 2008, the facility was transformed into a cultural centre and now houses a permanent exhibition devoted to British explorer, travel writer and photographer, Wilfred Thesiger. Affectionately known as Mubarak bin London by locals, he was famed for twice crossing the vast Empty Quarter desert in the 1940s. Visitors can also explore the wonderfully landscaped gardens that surround the impressive fort. ) +971 3 7118311

A unique landmark in the capital, Qasr Al Watan is a stunning palace that was constructed as a tribute to Arabian heritage and artistry. Visitors can explore the majestic hallways and explore exhibitions that offer an insight into the rulers and governing institutions that helped to shape the history of the UAE. There will also be a chance to gain a deeper understanding of the innovations that will change the face of the country.
ETIHAD MODERN ART GALLERY Opened in 2013, this multi-purpose art space and café was launched in order to promote the burgeoning Emirati art scene. Showcasing the work of local artists and featuring local heritage exhibitions, it was the first ever privately-funded gallery from the UAE to host a large scale exhibition in Berlin. Open throughout the week and with free admission, the popular venue regularly hosts art workshops, poetry nights and musical events.
) +971 2 6210145 etihadmodernart.com ZAYED CENTRE Located in the Al Bateen district in the capital, this museum provides a fascinating insight into the life of the late Sheikh Zayed bin Sultan Al Nahyan, affectionately known as the ‘Father of the Nation’. Within the centre there is a wealth of memorabilia, from a gallery of photographs charting Sheikh Zayed’s reign to the late President’s most cherished vehicles. There is also a vast collection of gifts which he received from various leaders all around the world, including stuffed cheetahs and lions. Yas Marina Circuit will once again host the final race of the Formula One season in what continues to be the biggest event on the capital’s busy sporting calendar. Attracting tens of thousands of fans, the Etihad Airways Abu Dhabi Grand Prix has been held on Yas Island since 2009 and has been won on four occasions by Lewis Hamilton. This year the circuit will also host the FIA World Rallycross Abu Dhabi for the very first time. Guaranteed to thrill racing fans, this high-octane race features cars that perform jumps and drift round tight turns. For those looking to reward or impress delegates, a host of corporate hospitality packages are available for both events. Abu Dhabi Grand Prix, 1 December, 2019
One of the most high-profile events on the European Tour, the Abu Dhabi HSBC Championship has been played in the capital since 2006 and regularly attracts leading names such as Rory McIlroy, Jordan Spieth and Dustin Johnson. Held on the challenging par-72 course at Abu Dhabi Golf Club, the tournament boasts a staggering prize fund of US$2.7 million (AED9.9 million) and was this year won by Irishman Shane Lowry. This hugely popular event has a range of options for corporate hospitality, with the Falcon Terrace overlooking the 18th green and providing VIP access to the wellequipped clubhouse, while the Sky Bar boasts live food stations, a private butler and looks over both the 17th and 18th green.
Played each year at Zayed Sports City, the Mubadala World Tennis Championship is a men’s singles exhibition tournament that has been won by the likes of Andy Murray, Rafael Nadal and Novak Djokovic. Played across three days, there is an extensive F&B offering, a live music stage and Q&A sessions with legendary players, making it perfect for a corporate outing. Last year 14-time Grand Slam champion Djokovic equalled Nadal’s record of four titles when he triumphed with a hard-fought victory over big-serving South African Kevin Anderson in the final. The Serbian will most likely return this year for the 12th edition of the tournament as he looks to secure a record fifth Mubadala crown.

On par with the best With stunning vistas and state-of-the-art facilities, the emirate’s world-class golf clubs ensure a truly memorable experience on and off the course
In the space of just two decades, the golf scene in Abu Dhabi has completely transformed. Once home to a solitary sand course, the emirate now boasts five lush green layouts that each offer a unique experience. Whether you are looking for a course that stretches along the coast, celebrates its natural surroundings or lets you play under the lights, there is a club to suit every taste. All five pay-and-play courses offer instruction from certified professionals and are sure to test professionals, enthral amateurs and excite beginners. They also feature exceptional clubhouse hospitality and no shortage of luxurious post-round experiences.
ABU DHABI GOLF CLUB Best known for hosting the annual Abu Dhabi Golf Championship, one of the leading events on the European Tour, this testing course provides amateurs with the chance to follow in the footsteps of some of the world’s
leading golfers. Designed by Peter Harridine, the 7,334-yard championship course has welcomed the likes of Jordan Spieth, Rory McIlroy and Dustin Johnson, and is defined by its strategically placed bunkers and generous greens. There is also a more forgiving 3,299yard, nine-hole course that is ideal for those new to the game. This par-36 layout offers tee times up to 9pm thanks to the powerful floodlights that surround the course.
