CHECK OUT THESE 4 LINCOLN PARK FAVORITES
What started as a gift of two swans and then the purchase of a bear cub for $10 has turned into one of the few free-admission zoos in the country and it’s open every day of the year. Now home to 1,100 animals in its 49 acres it’s high time you bundled up, grabbed your morning cup, and see for yourself why this gem is concierge favorite.
Chicago History Museum Ritz-Carlton concierge Laurel Gray sums this favorite up perfectly: it’s intimate in size, but a fascinating and fact-filled museum that provides an essential overview of Chicago. From Chicago’s sports to politics, the Union Stockyards to the very first ‘L’ car–there’s so much to discover at this North Side gem located in the scenic Lincoln Park neighborhood.

Armitage Halsted Corridor This two-block stretch is a favorite shopping destination of Chicago’s concierge. Both a historic district and architecturally significant, the Armitage and Halsted corridor is the place for high-end clothing, handmade accessories, one-of-a-kind gifts, children’s goodies, and other great Chicago treasures.
Kingston Mines After dark, nothing beats taking in some authentic Chicago blues. This concierge favorite is home to two stages, so you get to see two live bands in one night. Only here can you witness nellie “Tiger” Travis leave her heart on the stage with her powerhouse vocals and then have your face melted by Joanna Connor’s guitar shredding in the next room all in one night.
MORE TO EXPLORE The Gwen Chicago’s chef concierge Ramon Gomez thinks your trip to Lincoln Park wouldn’t quite be complete without experiencing these nearby only-in-Chicago favorites.
Gramaphone Records
Wrigley Field
North Pond
Chicago’s known globally as the birthplace of house music and that’s due, in part, to local shops like this favorite. It’s here that vinyl lovers and aspiring DJs alike can can dig deep through their crates, as did the likes of Bad Boy Bill, Green Velvet, Felix da Housecat, and more.
While things don’t get into full swing until their opener in April, that shouldn’t dissuade you from taking the short jaunt up to Wrigleyville to take in this favorite, landmark ballpark. If your visit isn’t on a game or tour day, definitely snap a straight-to-social-media-worthy picture in front of the iconic marquee.
Housed in a stunning Arts & Craftsstyle building that once served as a warming shelter for ice skaters in the early 1900s, is a favorite romantic fine dining destination. Seasonal menus keep things fresh, while a la carte and tasting options allot for a flexibility that's normally not found in restaurants of this caliber.

11 Gibsons Bar & Steakhouse
CONCIERGES FAVORITE PLACES FOR STEAK By Amber Holst
With a classic Chicago feel, tried and true cuisine, and impeccable service this Rush Street icon is a favorite of Shannon Boland, chef concierge at LondonHouse Chicago. Fun fact? They’re the only restaurant group in the country to be awarded their own USDA Prime Certification. Benny’s Chop House If you prefer something more modern than old school, Tim Anderson, concierge at the Dana Hotel says that Benny’s tops his list. Decked out with plush booths and dark wood accents, you’ll find serious wine and cocktails, rolling champagne carts, and huge slabs of dry-aged beef. Steak 48 This stylish and welcome newcomer to the Chicago prime meats game is a favorite of Jenna Kerr, concierge at the Conrad Chicago, who suggests that you don’t touch the plate. Why? Because steaks here arrive to you in epic fashion on a sizzling, 500 degree ceramic surface. Maple & Ash Best-described as a swanky 21st century version of the venerable Chicago steakhouse, this Gold Coast hot spot isn’t afraid to have fun and do things a little differently, which is one of the reasons why it’s one of JW Marriott Chicago concierge Matthew Chapman’s favorite. Catch 35 A Loop favorite and popular pre-theater dining destination whose vast menu features lots of seafood favorites prepared in a variety of culinary styles. Choose from the likes of Chilean sea bass, stir-fried shrimp and scallops, and grilled yellowfin tuna. Live jazz is a treat in the bar every Tuesday through Saturday. Hugo’s Frog Bar & Fish House This nautical sibling to neighboring Gibsons Bar & Steakhouse serves up large portions of creative seafood dishes alongside classic sides. Favorites include the crabcakes, baked halibut with crabmeat stuffing, and, of course, frog legs.
Riva Make sure to request a window seat so you can soak in the spectacular views of Lake Michigan and the skyline at this waterfront favorite on Navy Pier. The menu is extensive, especially when you figure in the “fresh sheet” of daily specials. Favorites include the Alaskan king crab legs and ahi tuna fillet.

Dubbed a “much-needed pre- and post-theater dining option in the Loop” by Radisson Blue Aqua’s concierge Rebecca Starodub, this urban American tavern marries a playful blend of high-brow cuisine with tavern-style fare resulting in creative iterations of familiar favorites.
Tortoise Supper Club For Shannon Boland, chef concierge at LondonHouse Chicago, it’s all about the cozy retro vibe and classic steaks, chops, and fresh seafood at this metropolitan supper club. If you’re dining on a Thursday, Friday, or Saturday night, you’ll even get a side of live jazz music.
Tavern at the Park A favorite place to grab a bite before or after visiting Millennium Park or taking in a show, the all-day menu here offers upscale comfort food with a twist. Start with the steak tavern burger sliders or treat yourself to their chicken pot pie, one of the best to be found in Chicago.
Little Goat Diner This all-day upscale diner serves insanely creative takes on classic American comfort food. From over-the-top breakfast (breakfast spaghetti, anyone?) and exceptional burgers to fun desserts, this West Loop favorite is one you need to experience for yourself.
Beacon Tavern Describing it as “top shelf” across the board, this is a favorite of Langham Chicago concierge Philippe Gills. The menu here is loaded with fresh interpretations of tavern classics and seafood-forward dishes and libations, which play heavily on classic American cocktails.

North Pond This romantic, landmark restaurant in the middle of Lincoln Park (the actual park), is situated in a former arts-and-crafts-style Park District building adjacent to North Pond. A long-standing favorite of concierge, this oasis serves locally-sourced haute New American fare. Best Eggs Benedict
Splash on the Spicy Stuff
Hate Waiting?
This favorite is basically Chicago’s Mecca for eggs Benedict. You can’t go wrong with the classic variation, but their pot roast benny is a stand-out dish. Prefer sweet to savory? Concierge love the banana nut bread French toast and their rotating pancake of the month which runs the gamut from tres leches to tiramisu.
After more than a decade of mastering the most important meal of the day, it comes as no surprise that they created the perfect hot sauce. (If you’ve not paired hot sauce and eggs, you’re missing out.) Their Signature Hot Sauce, which you can buy there, boasts a complex heat that enhances without overpowering.
We all know that brunch, particularly on a weekend, may require a wait. Did you know that your concierge can help you jump the line? Just grab their business card and present it to the host once you arrive and your name will move toward the top of the list, essentially cutting wait time in half.

Tango Sur
Band of Bohemia
Duck Inn
A long-standing Lakeview favorite of corporate concierge Kimmy Collins, this authentic Argentine steakhouse offers a dimly lit, cozy interior complemented by flickering candlelight and, of course, tango music. INSIDER TIP: Unlike most BYOB joints, Tango Sur doesn't charge a corkage fee.
A little bit of everything for everyone can be found at this Ravenswood favorite, the first brewpub to ever be awarded a Michelin star. The brainchild of two former Alinea vets, this innovative brewhouse infuses culinary flavors into house beers that pair perfectly with global plates.
Occupying a corner tavern in the Bridgeport neighborhood that predates Prohibition, this is a favorite of concierge Monica Reyes of theWit Hotel. Expect creative duck dishes— as the name would imply—in addition to beautifully updated takes on American eats alongside an inventive (and sassy) cocktail program.
SAVOR THE BEST OF THE MIDWEST AT FARMHOUSE By Amber Holst With its rustic décor of salvaged materials, a vintage Bevador holding bottles of beer, and a beautifully-curated menu that shines a spotlight on the best the Midwest has to offer each season, River North’s Farmhouse restaurant is an urban tavern that epitomizes the term “local”. No matter if you’re just looking to belly up with a craft beer at the bar or go all-out with a four-course meal, this Chicago gem won’t disappoint.
Feast From the Farm
All Local Libations
While the super seasonal menu here changes every two months, the focus is on American comfort food favorites, steaks, and chops that simply let the ingredients shine. Make sure to order the Wisconsin beer-battered cheese curds which are, hands-down, the best in town and definitely save room for dessert.
With over 28 craft brews on tap–all of which are from Illinois, Wisconsin, Indiana or Michigan–the all locally-sourced beverage program here alone makes it worth a visit. They even have five proprietary ciders made from organic apples, our favorite of which is Don’t Tell William.

Siena Tavern
Monteverde Restaurant & Pastificio
The italian dishes at this splashy haven for Italian fare in River North are made from scratch every day, so don’t miss out on their farro risotto with duck confit, carbonara in a jar, short rib ravioli, and 12-hour braised ossobuco. Make sure to save room for the pillowy and delicious bomboloni.
A favorite destination for handmade pasta, the vibe at this West Loop restaurant is casual but the food makes the evening feel special. Take note of the cooking demo-style mirror angled above the bar that reflects the pasta-making magic going on below. Make sure to try the skate wing schnitzel and the cacio e pepe, it’s pasta perfection.

Le Colonial
For a lively atmosphere and Latin-inspired dishes that will have you doing shoulder shimmies in your seat, this Fulton Market favorite is the place to be. Standout dishes include the ceviche tasting and the arrachera, whose chimichurri sauce will have you licking your plate.
Get your tapas fix on the Mag Mile. The smallplate, Mediterranean cuisine here ranges from house-made charcuterie and antipasto options like pork fried almonds with rosemary and garlic (they’re addicting!) to smears like their house-cured lardo iberico.
This chic Gold Coast favorite transports guests to another time and place, vividly recapturing the spirit of 1920s French-Colonial Southeast Asia. A favorite of Alex Yu, concierge at the Viceroy Chicago, the atmosphere here is as delightful as their Vietnamese cuisine.
DINNER & A SHOW
LIVE JAZZ 5 NIGHTS A WEEK
Just a short walk from all of the major downtown theaters, Catch 35 is the go-to pre-theater dining spot and a concierge favorite. Fun fact? If you use their valet, the cost ($12) is deducted from your check. Bonus? You don’t have to pick your car up until after the show.
The lounge at Catch 35 has become a popular gathering spot to have a few drinks, bites, and to take in some great music. The Eric Hochberg Trio performs every Tuesday-Saturday starting at 6 p.m. and features an ever-changing roster of critically acclaimed jazz musicians.

FAVORITE DISHES
Seafood and wine make a natural pair, and Catch 35’s diverse and progressive wine list delivers on all counts. From tried-and-true big name labels to their impressive lineup of small, boutique wineries, the selection here truly offers something for every palate.
Two tried-and-true dishes that top concierges’ lists are Catch 35’s Chilean sea bass with a complex yet delicate Hawaiian ginger scallion sauce and their signature Szechuan scallop appetizer that will have you hooked after one bite.
BANG FOR THE BUCK Catch 35 offers their 3-course, $37 prix fixe menu anytime. The first course is a choice of soup or salad, second course offers a choice of one of their signature dishes, with the third course being a choice of one option from their dessert menu.

For $14.95 (Mon.-Thurs.) or $17.95 (Fri.-Sun) start things off by noshing on the unlimited naan and sizzling hot tandoori chicken (which is promptly brought to your table) before digging into the seemingly endless options at the buffet. While some of the dishes change daily, offerings include their delicious chicken tikka masala swimming in a rich cream sauce, samosas, several types of curries just begging to be ladled over rice, and various vegetarian options like the paneer makhani, fresh cheese cooked in a creamy tomato sauce.
Drawing inspiration from the cuisine of Bombay and Delhi, as well as Indian street fare and homestyle tandoori cooking, the flavors you’ll experience here are plentiful, and more importantly, authentic. Seasoned curry-philes can expand their Indian repertoire beyond the admittedly-delicious mainstays and for those unfamiliar with Indian food, this is a perfect introduction. Dishes here are all elegantly served with gorgeous bowls and serving spoons, and the well-appointed and plush environs, makes it a great destination for a fancier night out or business dinner.
Sweet Treats Save room for dessert! The mango kulfi, or ice cream, is outstanding. So is the kheer, a rice pudding cooked with sweetened milk, raisins, and almonds.
The steel arches, brick, and floor-to-ceiling windows that overlook the Lake, bike path, and Lincoln Park give the space an almost lodge-like feel. Whether you’re casual from a stroll along the bike path and want to pop in for lunch or are dressed to the nines looking to grab a pre-show cocktail, you can do both. It’s as fancy as you want to be.
theateronthelake.com Can’t-miss menu items include the slow-cooked brisket, smoked Gouda and butterkase mac and cheese, and their signature whiskey bacon steak. The cocktail program here focuses on whimsical takes on the classics alongside a well-curated wine and craft beer selection.

5 REASONS WHY YOU NEED TO EXPERIENCE SKYDECK (A CONCIERGE FAVORITE) By Amber Holst It’s a Chicago Bucket List Thing People flock from all over the world to visit the tallest observation deck in America, and considering the unparalleled experience, it is certainly warranted. Skydeck is on the 103rd floor of the Willis Tower. You can see up to 50 miles away on a clear day, and in addition to views of every major Chicago attraction, four surrounding states are visible.
Chicago Trolley For a good overview of the city, Joan Hohs, a resident concierge at MILA Chicago, suggests a hop-on hop-off tour. She likes Chicago Trolley noting that the docents are friendly and knowledgeable, they stay on schedule, and are reliable. They have 13 stops across the city that you can hop on and off as much as you want.

45 Moneygun This is your spot for great cocktails and a perfectly laid-back atmosphere. It’s a Chicago Tradition Since 1949, Chicagoans have been lining up to get their Garrett Popcorn fix and leaving the home-grown popcorn shop with cheddar coated fingers and bags of goodness that will undoubtedly be empty before they even get back home.
By Amber Holst
World Famous Garrett Mix It’s the perfect combination of sweet and savory. The Garrett signature mix was born over 60 years ago from customers who would habitually order one bag of caramel, one bag of cheddar, and a third empty bag (so they could mix it themselves).
It’s Handcrafted Fresh The delicious aroma wafting around each shop probably gives it away, but the popcorn is prepared fresh all day, every day. Each small batch begins with a proprietary blend of non-GMO kernels which their cooks hand stir in signature copper kettles according to secret family recipes. They Mix it Up While concierges agree that trying the Garrett Mix is a must-do Chicago experience, Garrett’s offers a fun, seasonal rotation of limited time flavors like Chocolate Strawberry for Valentine’s Day or the limited-edition Hickory Smoked Bacon CheeeseCorn that’s available in shops now.
GARRETT POPCORN SHOPS On average, Chicago's concierges visit at least 3 times a week to fulfill guest amenity requests for a bag of The Garrett Mix.
