What’s Hot, Concord Key Club?
We are officially out of FRN season (with the spirit stick at hand) and getting ready to wrap up the second quarter of this term! As much as we were pumped up in the month of October, don’t let this spirit dissipate for the rest of the term! We still have much to look forward to, with Fall Fest right around the corner and a plethora of division events!
Reminder that, for seniors, division events are required for YOUR stoles, so come out to earn them! Lastly, I’d like to remind you all to take care of yourselves and keep up good habits with your health and academics.
That being said, enjoy this month’s edition of THE RED DEVIL REPORT!

Hello again Key Club!
We are now approaching the end of the first semester...It is hard to believe my last year in Key Club is passing by so quickly. But all is well!
With the second semester and new year approaching, my goal is to create more memories and especially capture many more Key Club memories!
The theme of this month’s newsletter is food! Specifically hot pot for this very cold season :) I hope all you devils are staying warm, because I definitely am with the amount of soup I have been eating! One of my favorites have to be miso soup, I would love to know your stance on miso soup (I didn't realize so many people around me dislike miso soup :0 ).
In this edition, I’ll be covering the club’s most recent events as well as the recent division-wide events. This is Ysabelle reporting to you for the month of November :]
Ysabelle Bolano
Every Thursday during lunch, come join us in Mrs. Yahya's room (rm #206). Our weekly meetings serve to inform members of upcoming events, recap previous service events, as well as provide additional Key Club news. Please feel free to bring along a friend to our weekly club meetings! The board members would like to express how amazing it has been to see so many new people at each meeting. We apologize for the lack of seating during our lunch period, but I hope we continue this enthusiasm of having so many student attend these meetings! Hope to see you soon :)
The October Division Council Meeting or DMC was held at Heather Farms Park (301 N San Carlos Dr, Walnut Creek) on Sunday, October 16th. This DCM was also treated as the last Spirit Social before Fall Rally North (FRN)!
From 1:00 to 4:00 pm, those who attended this social participated in learning, practicing, and finally reviewing our spirit chants. The latter business included discussing the club activities of the last month and interacting with the devils from the various clubs across our division. After club reports and division information, at the awards portion of the DCM, Concord High Key Club was recognized and awarded for the month of October! Editor Ysabelle Bolano was awarded as the “Officer of the Month.” (that’s me :) )
This social was the last day to donate to the “Penny Wars” fundraiser for PTP (Pediatric Trauma Program). By donating, you were to choose which dare the DLT will be performing at the next DCM. Amazing performance coming from our division as the $250 goal for PTP was reached! As a result, D26N LTG Stephanie Dumalig will be bleaching her eyebrows and the DLT will be pouring an ice bucket over themselves. With this in mind, perhaps consider attending the upcoming November DCM!
On an additional note, those who have previously placed an order for Spirit Gear received their order(s) at this social. For those who were unable to attend this social but still ordered spirit gear, please contact our President Tommy Nguyen in order to pick up your gear. Remember to proudly rep the new D26N merch!!
Leading up to Fall Rally North, attending Concord High Key Club members were required to attend a mandatory FRN Meeting. This meeting was held on Thursday, October 20th during the lunch period, as opposed to our regularly scheduled weekly meetings. President Tommy Nguyen went over a slideshow that covered all the necessary information to prepare members attending FRN!
Fall Rally North was such a success! On Saturday, October 22nd at Six Flags Discovery Kingdom, held FRN 2022. Each year, two Fall Rallies are held in Northern and Southern California. Concord High Key Club is a part of Division 26 North, which attended Fall Rally North (FRN). Here, Key Clubbers across multiple divisions joined at Six Flags to compete for the spirit stick through cheers, spirit battles, and more!
For those of you who haven’t heard by now, DIVISION 26 NORTH WON THE SPIRIT STICK! Introducing…”The Sea of Service Session 1 Winners!” Congratulations to everyone who contributed, your effort truly shined at this event!
After all ‘Key Club’ related events, those who attended were free to enjoy six flags until late at night! From the thrilling roller coaster rides to experiencing the terror of Fright Fest, it was a unanimous consensus that FRN is an experience that Key Clubbers should not miss out on! This is an especially great experience to fully grasp Key Club and immerse yourself in this community. Especially a great event to make Key Club friends across California, Nevada, and Hawaii!
“It was the most fun I've ever had at an event!!! Everyone was shouting out cheers with all their spirit and energy, making it such an unforgettable experience. All the effort didn't go unnoticed as we…

“I had an amazing time! It was my first time at FRN and I will definitely be going next year. I got to meet so many other Key Club members and get to know them. I really enjoyed the Spirit Battle, even more so because we won!! Overall it was an amazing experience and I am very grateful I was able to attend!”
Member Sarai Rodriguez
“My experience with FRN was awesome! Especially since this is my last year in Key Club and we manage to take home the spirit stick for our shelf (Just to make it 10 times better)!! I attended FRN unofficially last year, but I couldn’t get to experience the rally and all the cheering. But this year, I didn’t let that opportunity go to waste!!”

On Monday, October 31st also known as Halloween, hosted the yearly event in October where Concord High Key Club and other fellow students (and organizations) of Concord High School helped households struggling with food insecurity. What is food insecurity you may wonder, it is defined as “a householdlevel economic and social condition of limited or uncertain access to adequate food.” Those who participated in Scare Away Hunger made a massive difference to provide for hungry children and families!
The week prior to Halloween, volunteers distributed food bank bags to their group’s designated neighborhoods. On Halloween from 5:00 to 8:30 pm, volunteers returned to the same neighborhoods and collected those bags. Seen in costumes and this year’s pink shirts, teams were spotted in the dark of night running through their designated neighborhoods and collecting these food bank bags. It was absolutely an incredible sight to see all teams putting forth their best effort in participating and competing in Scare Away Hunger!
Out of all service events, Scare Away Hunger has to be one of the most exhilarating to participate in! With the thrill of competing against other teams and the excitement from running in the dark with the wind blowing and trick-or-treaters cheering you on, in short, Scare Away Hunger is just a lot of fun! In the upcoming year, it is not only highly encouraged to participate but equally as encouraged to bring along friends, prepare a running outfit that will withstand the weather, and ng donations!
Key
Club volunteers
alongside Concord High’s College Scholarship
Federation (CSF) volunteers formed a team together. With our joint efforts, Scare Away Hunger was an incredibly spooky success! Through online donations, a total of $479 was raised. By 8:30 pm and the end of the event, a total of 2.5 large bins of food donations were collected. In the end, a total of over 8000 pounds of food donations were collected and over $3000 (a total equivalent to 13,000 meals!) was raised by Concord High School.
"It was my first year doing Scare Away Hunger and it was so cool!! I liked going to every house and seeing people be so generous enough to give us bags full of canned goods! It felt good to do and I’m so glad that everyone’s efforts will be put into something good to help others!”
Vice President Isha Saleem
“Scare Away Hunger was really fun! This year is unfortunately going to be the only year I’ll be able to participate, but nevertheless, it was still a thrilling experience. I didn’t know exactly what to expect, but it always made me happy to see someone bring out their bag of canned goods and donations to give to a good cause. My favorite moment would easily have to be when my group finished our section and saw that we filled an entire truck bed with bags; it felt awesome to see our efforts pay off. Even if I may not be around, I hope that this event will continue on and support the families that use the food bank!”
Member Andrew Evangelista
“I think this is a very meaningful event. Although we are individual people, when we join together to do something, we can make many huge changes to help our community become more harmonious and happy. When I know that what we have collected can help so many people, I feel really proud of each of us and thank everyone for their support. That evening, I believe many people had an extraordinary and happy Halloween. I hope this activity will continue every year.”
Member Yuwei (Jason) Fan
“The event was very fun! I’m very proud of Key Club/CSF for filling up 2.5 bins and getting over $300 in donations just by asking that night. I got to connect with other people around school, make fun and silly memories, and just helping the community alone is amazing. This is my third year doing this and I enjoyed every year. Definitely a very fun event to do to get involved with the community!”
Member Marissa Olvera
“I had a fun experience for my first and last Scare Away Hunger! Coming out to the event, I wasn’t expecting many neighbors to contribute or participate in donating. It surprised me by the number of food and money donations we collected from just the Key Club and CFS section. With a total of $326 in cash and 2.5 bins filled up with food. (Not to mention the $479 dollars we raised online)!!”
Member Tu Ngo
“The event was awesome and very exciting!! We went door to door collecting any possible food or money donations to help our community in “scaring away hunger” on Halloween night. When we were almost out of time, we started running to each possible house we haven't gone to and it just felt even more thrilling!!! Some people who were trick or treating were giving us cheers as we passed through each neighborhood, making us feel like we were making a difference in the community. Cars were packed with food that we were able to collect that night and it was just great to see how caring people are through every donation. At the end of the night, our team (CSF/Key Club) was able to fill up two and a half boxes with food, which was a fulfilling accomplishment!!!”
Member Jon Christopher Reyes
“The event was awesome! Running through the night, laughing as we trick or treat for canned goods felt like something out of a movie. Seeing all our efforts put together at the end felt so surreal and the amount of support we got from parents was outstanding. I’m so happy I got to be part of something so impactful to my community!”
Member Joel Montano (Ash Ketchum)
Food Bank:
Key Club will be hosting a service event at the Food Bank (4010 Nelson Ave, Concord). Although there are only limited spots available for this event, it is strongly recommended that you attend. If you choose to attend, remember to wear a mask and closed-toe shoes to keep safe and sanitary! Not only has this been a fulfilling volunteering opportunity as you can make time to help others, you truly become connected with your community as you work alongside your fellow red devils and even Kiwanis!
Fall Fest:
Each school year at Concord High School, there are two events dedicated to clubs. During the fall/winter season, one event is called “Fall Fest,” where our club participates and thrives at! On Friday, November 18th, please be on the lookout for Key Club’s table where we will be selling earl grey milk tea, $7 with boba and $6 without. Consider buying as it greatly help support our club! There is a limited supply and a strong demand for Key Club’s boba, so as a heads up, be sure to come as soon as you can since we sell out very quickly!
