Being a woman is to embody an unstoppable force— grace wrapped in resilience, strength adorned with poise. We are the silent architects of possibility, the steady pulse of every home and workplace, the dreamers who build, nurture, and conquer—all in one breath. We balance a thousand roles, moving seamlessly from boardrooms to daily responsibilities, from professional ambitions to personal commitments. Our lives are an intricate dance between ambition and duty, between chasing dreams and holding the world together.
Every day, we step into spaces where expectations weigh heavier on our shoulders, where the world whispers that we must choose—career or warmth, success or sacrifice, ambition or belonging. But we do not choose. We master it all. We lead with confidence, command our spaces, and still make time to be the anchors in our relationships, the unseen yet unwavering pillars that hold it all in place.
For me, the journey is even more layered. Living away from family means there is no built-in support system, no reassuring presence at the end of a long day, no shared burden of responsibilities. Every decision, every triumph, every setback—I
carry alone. The solitude is both empowering and heavy, an unspoken responsibility that only those who walk this path truly understand. There is no room for hesitation, no moment to falter. Every challenge demands resilience, every step forward is entirely my own. Yet, in this space of independence, I have found an unshakable strength—one that comes from knowing that I can, and I will, keep moving forward.
That’s why covering women in construction holds a special place in my heart. In an industry historically dominated by men, these women are not just building structures; they are breaking barriers and rewriting narratives. Every feature I write about them is a tribute to their grit and passion. They stand at the helm of projects, shaping skylines and making decisions that impact entire communities. Their stories reaffirm the boundless possibilities that come with determination.
Additionally, what inspires me most is the women around me—those who juggle endless hats with effortless grace. The ones who carve their own legacies while lifting others along the way. The ones who break barriers, redefine expectations, and prove that we are limitless. I see them in the unwavering determination in their eyes, in the quiet sacrifices they make, in the way they continue to show up despite the weight they carry.
We are more than just women—we are forces of nature, carving paths where none existed, turning obstacles into stepping stones. And no matter how high the stakes or how heavy the crown, we rise. With fire in our spirits, purpose in our hearts, and the weight of the world balanced elegantly on our shoulders, we move forward—not just surviving, but thriving. Boldly. Beautifully. Unapologetically.

This agreement marks NEOM’s first export credit agency-backed financing, utilizing Italian businesses to drive key aspects of the project’s development
NEOM has announced the successful closing of a landmark export credit agency (ECA) financing transaction with Italy’s SACE, securing approximately USD 3 billion under a long-term multicurrency untied facility.
The deal, which marks NEOM’s first corporate ECA financing and the most significant untied financing ever guaranteed by SACE, will support various projects across NEOM and is backed by a syndicate of nine prominent international banks – HSBC, Banco Bilbao Vizcaya Argentaria, Bank of China, Crédit Agricole CIB, Agricultural Bank of China, Citi, China Construction Bank, J.P. Morgan and Bank of America.
The partnership will enable NEOM
to leverage supplies from Italian businesses, particularly SMEs, to support the project’s development across key sectors, such as infrastructure, urban development, construction and transport (rail, road and maritime). To date, Italian suppliers and contractors have supported NEOM on a range of projects, with contracts worth USD 6.3 billion, and the deal aims to strengthen further and develop these essential international business relationships.
Eng. Aiman Al-Mudaifer, Acting CEO of NEOM, said:

How do you view the growth of electrification in the Middle East’s construction and MEP sectors, and what unique opportunities does this region offer?
The Middle East represents a significant growth market for electrification, particularly with the region’s rapid urbanisation and focus on sustainable development. ABB has had a presence in the Middle East since 1926 and, most notably, has been a stable partner in the UAE since 1976, where we have helped to transform the region’s energy landscape through digitalisation initiatives and clean energy integration. As the region seeks to diversify its energy mix away from gas and oil, we can expect to see a greater emphasis on renewables in the coming years. In particular, Saudi Arabia has set one of the
most ambitious targets in the region as it aims for 50% renewable energy by the end of this decade.
At ABB, we have seen a concerted shift in how energy needs are factored into ambitious infrastructure projects, from iconic buildings like the Burj Khalifa to sustainable smart city initiatives like those in Masdar City and Dubai. Our expertise in critical infrastructure extends across the region, from providing comprehensive electrification solutions for the Al Taweelah Desalination Plant in the UAE – one of the world’s largest reverse osmosis facilities – to powering Egypt’s Bahr El Baqar water treatment plant. These facilities rely on ABB’s integrated electrical infrastructure and digital solutions to maintain continuous operations, enabling predictive maintenance and realtime optimisation while supporting sustainable water provision across their regions.
How is ABB supporting the construction industry in adopting sustainable electrification solutions, particularly in achieving energy efficiency and net-zero goals?
ABB Electrification Services aims to deliver measurable results for sustainable construction. As shown in our global implementations, our modernisation solutions help extend the lifetime of critical infrastructure by as much as 30 years while improving energy capacity by up to 20%. By extending the life of equipment in service, companies can avoid emissions, replace CapEx investments with OpEx costs, and improve the sustainability of their facility.
At EnBW, one of Europe’s largest energy suppliers, our asset modernisation solutions have ensured critical energy production efficiency while elevating safety, sustainability and

predictability. The impact on maintenance and operations is significant – our goal is to help our customers reduce maintenance costs by up to 85% and keep facilities running with up to 90% less downtime.
What roles do smart technologies and digital solutions play in advancing electrification within the MEP sector, and how are they transforming building operations?
Smart technologies and digital solutions are changing how we think about building operations and maintenance in the MEP space. We are seeing a massive shift from reactive to predictive maintenance, where real-time monitoring and data analytics are crucial to optimising system performance and energy efficiency. The future of electrical infrastructure lies in creating intelligent, responsive systems that can predict and prevent issues before they disrupt operations.
Second, cloud-based solutions and remote diagnostics are also transforming traditional maintenance models, making it possible for service providers to monitor and optimise electrical systems from anywhere in the world. This shift isn’t just about technology—it’s about fundamentally rethinking how we manage and maintain our built environment to be more efficient and sustainable.
Which areas in construction and MEP, such as infrastructure projects or building management systems, are leading in adopting electrification solutions in the Middle East?
Smart cities are at the forefront of urban development in the Middle East. The World Bank estimates that 70% of the global population will live in cities by 2050, making the need for intelligent urban infrastructure more pressing than ever. In our region, several key sectors are leading this transformation.
Data centres remain a significant growth area where reliable power and precise energy management are mission-critical. Large-scale transport infrastructure projects
like the Dubai Metro highlight ways integrated electrification solutions can enhance urban mobility. The commercial building sector is also advancing rapidly, with projects like the Four Seasons Hotel Doha highlighting how smart energy systems can enable efficiency and predictive maintenance capabilities. In other markets globally, we see how businesses pair this ‘as-a-service’ business model to mitigate the upfront costs often associated with implementing renewable energy sources. It remains to be seen whether we are likely to see similar dynamics emerge in the Middle East, but it speaks to the structural roadblocks faced by businesses looking to green their energy sources.
However, what’s particularly interesting is the broader trend toward comprehensive smart city developments. These projects aim to leverage digital technologies to transform urban living and governance through artificial intelligence, data, and the Internet of Things. While they offer significant potential for improving sustainability and service delivery, they also bring important considerations around implementation and governance. The key will be ensuring these technologies enhance quality of life while supporting sustainable urban development.
ABB’s portfolio of water management technology solutions is designed to mitigate water scarcity, increase water quality and drive energy efficiency at each stage of the groundwater cycle to ensure the correct flow of water from ground to the glass
What challenges does ABB face in driving electrification adoption in large-scale construction and MEP projects across the region, and how is the company addressing these issues?
Today, ABB Electrification Services manages a vast installed base spanning 17 million installations of low—to medium-voltage equipment components and systems worldwide. In implementing large-scale electrification projects across the region, we have seen that many businesses here face the same challenges as their global counterparts, especially concerning cost concerns.
At the same time, we are beginning to see demand for retrofitting and modernisation programs across the region, especially for electrical systems dating back more than 50 years. These systems require careful modernisation. We use a phased approach that allows customers to maintain operations and maximise their existing capital expenditure while minimising disruption through scheduled installations and planned maintenance.
How are regional government regulations and sustainability initiatives influencing the adoption of electrification in the construction and MEP sectors? Could you share some of ABB’s key innovations or solutions designed specifically for electrification in the building and MEP industries in the Middle East?
In the Middle East, government regulations and sustainability initiatives are increasingly shaping the adoption of electrification in construction and MEP sectors, as evidenced by landmark projects like the Burj Khalifa in UAE and the Four Seasons Hotel in Qatar. These regulations mean stricter energy efficiency requirements, pushing construction and MEP sectors
to adopt smart energy monitoring systems and upgrade existing electrical infrastructure.
Sustainability initiatives across the region are simultaneously promoting the integration of renewable energy systems and modernising electrical infrastructure to support the clean energy transition. Notable examples
include the Sharjah Electricity & Water Authority in the UAE, which chose to upgrade its systems with lowvoltage digital units that reduce costs while improving efficiency. This is a clear demonstration of the region’s drive towards actively balancing its traditional energy heritage with forward-looking sustainability initiatives.
What is your vision for the future of electrification in the Middle East’s construction and MEP sectors, and how does ABB plan to contribute to this transformation?
The future of electrification in the Middle East represents a pivotal shift in how we approach construction and infrastructure development. As the region continues its ambitious sustainability trajectory, integrating smart technologies and environmentally conscious practices will become critical for long-term business resilience. Digital transformation and sustainability are
no longer separate considerations but fundamentally interconnected concepts that will shape how buildings and facilities operate.
Success will depend on our ability to balance technological advancement and practical implementation, ensuring that innovations in predictive maintenance and smart systems deliver tangible benefits in efficiency and reliability. I believe the construction and MEP sectors have a unique opportunity to lead this transformation, creating a blueprint for sustainable development that honours the region’s proven expertise in managing complex infrastructure and energy systems.

How UAE Contractors Are Budgeting in an Unpredictable Market
In the ever-shifting UAE market, the real game lies not with the biggest, tallest buildings but in the delicate dance of dirhams that makes them possible. In a region where the construction industry is projected to grow at a compound annual growth rate (CAGR) of 5.4% between 2024 and 2028, reaching AED 234.37 billion by 2028, one might assume that contractors have mastered the budgeting game. Yet the reality is budgeting is not just about crunching numbers—it’s about staying agile in a sector where costs, regulations, and project timelines can shift overnight. With major infrastructure and real estate projects underway across the region, contractors are under immense pressure to keep costs in check while ensuring profitability.
Managing Cash Flow in a Delayed Payment Cycle
The rhythm of construction is dictated by cash flow, but in the UAE, delayed payments are a persistent challenge,
with some contractors waiting 90 days or more for invoices to clear. This creates a liquidity crunch, impacting everything from supplier relationships to worker wages. To maintain a steady beat, contractors are adopting innovative strategies. Some are shifting to milestone-based payments, instead of lump sums to improve cash flow ensuring a regular influx of funds. Others are leveraging invoice factoring, selling unpaid invoices to financial institutions to access funds sooner.
With the construction industry in the region expected to grow at a 5.4_ CAGR between 2024 and 2028, reaching AED 234.37 billion, one might think contractors have perfected the art of budgeting
Abu Dhabi’s government mandated that contractors be paid within 30 days, easing liquidity constraints on ongoing projects.
The Oasis of Asset
Management
To navigate this unpredictable terrain, contractors are turning to robust asset management strategies. Effective asset management is crucial in enhancing efficiency and reducing costs in the UAE’s dynamic construction sector.
Construction material costs remain volatile due to global supply chain disruptions and inflation. With steel prices surging 35_ in 2023, contractors are securing fixed-price deals to mitigate cost spikes and maintain project stability
By meticulously tracking equipment, machinery, and tools, companies can prevent asset misplacement—a common issue that leads to project delays and increased costs. This approach ensures that resources are utilized optimally, turning potential financial pitfalls into manageable challenges.
The Rising Cost of Materials and How Firms Are Adapting
Construction material costs continue to fluctuate, driven by global supply chain disruptions and inflation. Steel prices, for example, surged by 35% in 2023, impacting high-rise and infrastructure projects, forcing contractors to rethink their steps. To navigate these cost fluctuations, contractors are locking in fixed-price contracts with suppliers to avoid cost spikes. Many firms are also exploring alternative materials, such as engineered wood in residential projects instead of steel and concrete provides flexibility. For larger projects, bulkbuying essential materials in advance has become a common practice to mitigate unforeseen price increases.
Labor Costs and Workforce Efficiency
Labor remains one of the highest expenses in construction, making up 3050% of total project costs. As the UAE champions labor reforms and improved working conditions, contractors must find ways to enhance productivity without compromising fair compensation. To optimize workforce efficiency, companies are investing in training programs to enhance worker productivity. Modular construction methods are becoming more widespread, reducing the need for extensive on-site labor while maintaining quality. Additionally, digital workforce management tools offer real-time insights into productivity, ensuring that labor costs align with project progress.
Technology as a Budgeting Tool
Contractors are increasingly relying on digital solutions to reduce cost overruns.
