Broadway Interiors Unveils Indi 16
Broadway Interiors introduces Indi 16, a vibrant Indian tapas and shisha lounge at CityMax Business Bay, blending bold Indian flavours with contemporary design to create a dynamic and immersive dining experience.
A 5,300 sqft lounge at CityMax Business Bay, Indi 16 combines sleek interiors with a 99-seat indoor area and a 72-seat outdoor terrace, offering a modern take on cultural design with views of the Dubai skyline
Broadway Interiors, renowned for its edgy and bold designs in restaurants and nightclubs, has recently completed the interiors for Indi 16—a vibrant Indian tapas and shisha lounge located on the 16th floor of CityMax Business Bay.
Indi 16 represents a perfect fusion of cultural inspiration and modern elegance. Situated within a business hotel, the venue caters to a diverse clientele, including business travellers, local residents, and international visitors. This project also marks the beginning of a strong partnership between Broadway Interiors and CityMax Hotels, for which they recently completed two High-So
nightclubs. As a result, Indi 16 offers a fresh and exciting destination for those seeking a unique dining experience in Dubai.
Chris Barnes, owner and founder of Broadway Interiors, explains the overall design concept: “Indi 16 was about creating a space that reflects the richness of Indian culture while providing a modern environment that would appeal to both locals and the international audience Dubai attracts. We wanted to create an experience that connects tradition with contemporary aesthetics, offering guests an inviting space.”
The journey to creating Indi 16 wasn’t without challenges. The project required navigating municipal approvals to increase the gross floor area (GFA) of the hotel. Once the green light was received, Broadway Interiors was tasked with transforming a complex space—50% of which was located outdoors with no windows or mechanical services—into a functional interior.
The venue’s name, Indi 16, draws its inspiration from Indian cuisine and its location on the 16th floor of the hotel. The overall design is divided into two distinct experiences: the indoor space features a more intimate atmosphere, influenced by the limited natural daylight, while the shisha terrace embraces panoramic views of the Dubai skyline.
Spanning over 5,300sq ft, the venue boasts an indoor capacity of 99 and an outdoor shisha terrace that accommodates 72 guests, offering panoramic views of the Dubai skyline. The fit-out was carried by Gateway Interiors.
Truffle by NaughtOne: A Playful Pouf with a Charming Form
NaughtOne, part of the MillerKnoll collective, debuts Truffle pouf, a cheeky yet practical seat and footrest. Truffle pouf brings a playful energy wherever it pops up.
Intentionally organic in form, its curvaceous profile charms from all sides, while the seamless top offers a smooth, durable seat.
With two sizes, 605 wide x 400 high (A) and 475 mm wide by 445 mm high (B), Truffle supports both agile working and lounge uses.
Version A’s wide seat and lower sit invites lounging.
Version B’s taller work height encourages a more upright sit. Both create agile hotspots for connection and collaboration.
Truffle’s solid Bio-Pur® foam construction features a firm inner core for stability and a softer outer layer for comfort. Bio-Pur® foam uses fewer fossil fuels than conventional foams by incorporating vegetable oils and
other organic waste into the production process. It is an innovative solution that can be easily implemented in existing manufacturing processes. The use of Bio-Pur® foam is part of NaughtOne’s strategic goal to reduce the amount of fossil fuel-based materials in its products.
NaughtOne prides itself on its expertise in upholstery. Truffle’s clever one-piece upholstery creates a seamless waterfall edge that accentuates Truffle’s organic form, reveals curves on curves with the play of light, and creates surprising contrasts along the seams.
As always with NaughtOne, possibility is everything. Specifiers can let their imagination run free by adapting Truffle’s character with their fabric choices. Create hotspots with bright colour pops, make a statement with patterns, or blend in with cool neutrals. Whether standing solo or mixed and matched in clusters, Truffle makes itself at home wherever you pull it up.
NaughtOne introduces the Truffle pouf, a playful yet functional seat and footrest that adds both style and practicality to any space.

Growing Opportunities in UAE’s Exhibition Design Industry
Vrushali Mhatre
ASSOCIATE PROFESSOR AT HERIOT-WATT UNIVERSITY DUBAI, HIGHLIGHTS THE UAE’S BOOMING EXHIBITION DESIGN INDUSTRY. SHE NOTES THE FUSION OF INNOVATION, CULTURE, AND TECHNOLOGY DRIVING GROWTH AND EXPANDING OPPORTUNITIES FOR DESIGNERS.
"Exhibition design in the UAE thrives on several key elements that define its success. A strong narrative and thematic unity are crucial, with exhibitions needing to tell stories that resonate with diverse audiences."
Exhibition design is an art and science that combines space, technology, and storytelling to create immersive experiences. In the UAE, a country known for pushing the boundaries of architecture, culture, and innovation, exhibition design holds vast potential. From world-renowned events like Expo 2020 Dubai to the ever-growing demand for cultural, trade, and industry-specific exhibitions, the UAE has established itself as a key player in this field. The UAE hosts a vibrant calendar of events throughout the year, attracting thousands of visitors annually. For instance, Global Village is a major highlight, while permanent exhibition venues like the Abu Dhabi National Exhibition Centre, Dubai World Trade Centre, and Expo Centre Sharjah play a central role in hosting a wide range of events. The country is also renowned for its global arts and culture events, supported by the Ministry of Culture and Youth, which promotes the UAE's cultural sector. Additionally, the UAE hosts high-profile international sports and leisure competitions, offering substantial prize money. As a major hub for trade shows, conferences, and exhibitions, the country continues to strengthen its position as a global center for events and tourism.
As the region continues to evolve as a global hub for tourism, trade, and creativity, the future of exhibition design here is bright and full of possibilities. Exhibitions in the UAE serve multiple purposes, cultural expression, business promotion, and knowledge exchange.
Exhibition design enhances these experiences by crafting environments that engage visitors, inspire interaction, and facilitate communication. Whether it's a museum exhibit, trade show booth, or immersive experience in a public space, thoughtful design maximises the impact of the content on display. The focus on cutting-edge technology, sustainability, and cultural identity aligns with the UAE’s long-term vision of becoming a knowledge-based economy. As a result, exhibition spaces across the country are becoming more innovative and ambitious, incorporating elements like virtual reality (VR), augmented reality (AR), and interactive installations that enhance user experience.
Exhibition design in the UAE thrives on several key elements that define its success. A strong narrative and thematic unity are crucial, with exhibitions needing to tell stories that resonate with diverse audiences. Designers often navigate the balance between traditional cultural symbols and modern concepts, as seen in places like the Louvre Abu Dhabi or Expo 2020 Dubai. Advanced technology, including VR, AR, and projection mapping, plays a key role in deepening visitor engagement, making it a distinctive feature of exhibitions in the UAE. Sustainability is another priority, with eco-conscious materials and adaptable designs being embraced to reduce environmental impact, as demonstrated by projects like Masdar City and the Sharjah Art Foundation. Al Seef Dubai is also an example of popup installations that seamlessly blend heritage and culture with contemporary spaces. Additionally, well-planned spatial design and flow are essential to crafting an intuitive and immersive visitor experience, whether in small galleries or expansive
open-air spaces, ensuring the user experience remains at the heart of exhibition design in the region.
The significant growth of the exhibition design industry presents exciting career opportunities for aspiring designers, especially those eager to blend technology, culture, and creativity. As demand for skilled professionals rises, designers can explore diverse roles across sectors such as cultural institutions, museums, corporate events, and cutting-edge, tech-driven installations.
Exhibition designers create spaces and layouts for a wide range of events, both temporary and permanent, including exhibitions, museums, art installations, fairs, stands, shops, window displays, and even virtual environments. Aesthetics and narrative play key roles in their work, allowing for experimentation and innovation, particularly in the creation of immersive, experiential spaces. Exhibit designers translate commercial stories into spatial and visual forms, using design methodologies tailored to exhibition environments while incorporating their own creative interpretations to meet the project's communicative and narrative goals. They collaborate with a range of professionals, such as curators, artists, brand managers, lighting designers, directors, digital creators, graphic designers, and videographers. Whether working in design studios or as freelancers, exhibit designers manage and coordinate all aspects of an exhibition’s design, from conception to realisation.
With the UAE emerging as a global center for exhibitions, the future of exhibition design holds great promise, offering endless opportunities for creativity and influence. Designers who can efficiently combine innovation with practical solutions, while highlighting the UAE’s distinct identity, will thrive in this exciting field.

GROHE Drives Innovation in Saudi Arabia

He highlights the blend of German quality with Saudi talent, driven by cutting-edge technology and automation.
What inspired the decision to open the first-ever GROHE manufacturing facility in Saudi Arabia, and how does this align with GROHE's global strategy?

presence in the region, reinforcing our commitment to delivering quality products across Saudi Arabia.
How does GROHE plan to celebrate and promote the combination of German quality with Saudi talent in its marketing and product offerings?
Our Saudi-made Concealed Cisterns maintain the core GROHE brand values of quality, technology, design, and sustainability. This commitment ensures that, even as we localise production, we maintain the high standards that define GROHE globally. By integrating these values into our Saudi-made offerings, we continue to deliver exceptional products that resonate with both our customers and our commitment to excellence.
What cutting-edge technologies and innovations are being implemented in the GROHE manufacturing facility to ensure high-quality production standards?
GROHE's concealed cisterns are designed with advanced water-saving technology, ensuring that
you can flush the toilet effectively while using significantly less water. These products adhere to stringent environmental standards, including those set by the Water Efficiency Labeling Scheme (WELS) and LEED certifications. By allowing users to choose between different flush volumes, GROHE concealed cisterns contribute to eco-friendly practices by minimizing water waste, making them a key component in sustainable building designs. This commitment to water conservation not only supports environmental preservation but also helps reduce utility costs for consumers.
The cistern is the heart of any concealed system for WCs, in drywall and solid constructions. GROHE has experience in the production of Concealed Cistern for more than 50 years. This leads to more than 25 Million cisterns installed worldwide. GROHE concealed products generally come with a 10-year warranty. Replacement parts are available for a full 15 years for our concealed
WC cisterns. GROHE concealed cisterns are featured with Dual-flush technology, which allows the user to select the required volume and thereby saving water. The GROHE concealed cistern is characterised by rapid installation and universal connection options. Another important installation advantage that delivers clear time savings is the fastening technology of the retaining frame for mounting the flush plate directly on the cistern. Last but not least GROHE offers the perfect match with all touchpoints in the bathroom. It is the only company in the industry that can offer a true freedom of choice with a 100% perfect match in colour, design and size.
What role does automation and digitalisation play in the factory's operations, and how does it contribute to efficiency and precision in production?
We are manufacturing Concealed Cistern in Zamil Plastic Industries Co. factory. Which is known for being a business group engaged in the development of innovative design and engineering solutions for use in the construction industry using GROHE German expertise. We are happy to work with an institute that is recognised for its efforts in sustainability, social responsibility, operational excellence, innovation, and workplace balance.

BRUNO GUÉLAFF 05
DESIGN DIRECTOR + PARTNER /STUDIO BRUNO GUELAFF + BG GROUP
Recognised as one of the region's leading designers and architects, Bruno Guélaff’s expertise extends across architecture, interior design, master planning, and furniture design, leaving a significant impact on each field. Born in New York City to French parents, Bruno's educational journey began at the Lycée Français de New York and evolved into a deep design exploration. Initially unsure of his path, his studies in sociology did not reveal his passion until later at the New York School of Interior Design (NYSID). It was there that his design identity took shape, solidified by his receipt of the prestigious B.F.A. Travel Prize, allowing him to travel the world, visiting over 22 cities across 15 countries.
This globe-trotting experience became a rich source of inspiration, influencing the multicultural layers in his work today.
In 2008, Guélaff returned to Dubai, where he established his boutique firm, studio bruno guelaff, under the umbrella of BG Group.
Over the last 15 years, his vision has propelled the company to become one of the most sought-after design firms in the region. Known for pushing the boundaries of design and architecture, Bruno's work is defined by its fluidity—ensuring that all design elements, from landscape to interiors, are woven seamlessly into a cohesive narrative. As Bruno puts it:
“Designing is about more than just the physical space; it’s about crafting an emotional experience for those who live within it.”
In 2024, Bruno’s dedication to design was recognised when he was awarded Architect of
BRUNO GUÉLAFF, DESIGN DIRECTOR + PARTNER STUDIO BRUNO GUELAFF + BG GROUP
the Year at the Architecture Leaders Awards. Reflecting on this achievement, Bruno stated: “I am deeply honored and humbled by this recognition. It serves as validation for the dedication my team and I put into every project. Designing spaces where our clients live is a privilege, knowing that our work impacts their daily lives in meaningful ways. This motivates me to push the boundaries of modern design even further.”
His holistic approach to design—one that integrates not just the physical, but the emotional and cultural dimensions of living— has set him apart in the industry. Bruno emphasizes the importance of understanding his clients' backgrounds, how they interact with their environments, and translating that understanding into personalized architectural solutions. “It is my privilege to design a true home for each of our patrons, one that reflects their cultural identities, their relationships, and their values,” he says. This philosophy has not only influenced his designs but has also reshaped the way his company approaches construction. After identifying inefficiencies in the traditional project process, Bruno realized that design should not stop at conceptualization but extend into execution. This led to the formation of BG Villas, a partnership between Bruno and construction expert Khalid Kaluti. Together, they have created a design + build company that merges cutting-edge design with high-quality construction for an all-inclusive, transparent client experience.
The success of BG is visible across Dubai, where luxury residential projects are in full swing from Dubai Hills to Pearl Jumeirah. The firm is now looking forward to expanding its scope with branded boutique developments, including an ambitious 96-story tower facing the iconic Burj Khalifa, which is currently in the design phase.
One of our current projects is the BG LUX Villa, a true gem located in the heart of Pearl Jumeirah, Dubai.
This four-level villa is a stunning blend of minimalism and glamour, offering 24,000sqft. of usable space. The villa features a range of luxurious amenities, including a cold plunge pool, a spa, a boutique-style gym, and a multi-level cinema. Its fully functional roof terrace offers breathtaking panoramic views of Dubai, creating the perfect setting for relaxation. The villa's meticulously curated finishes will captivate the future homeowner, ensuring a living experience that embodies modernism, comfort, and elegance. Every detail, from the architecture to the interior design, reflects a commitment to creating a space that is both aesthetically pleasing and functional, making the BG LUX Villa a standout masterpiece in Dubai’s luxury real estate market.
As Bruno and his partners at BG Group continue to redefine the standards of design + build, they are setting new benchmarks for innovation and excellence. With a visionary at its helm, the firm’s future projects promise not only architectural brilliance but a genuine connection to the people who will inhabit them.
Bruno’s journey from a young man searching for his passion to one of the region's leading designers and architects is one of vision, perseverance, and an unwavering belief in the power of design to shape how we live. His work continues to inspire, pushing the boundaries of what is possible, one project at a time.

06 MICHAEL MAGILL
CREATIVE DIRECTOR /RSP
Michael Magill, Creative Director of RSP, has been a driving force behind the studio’s impressive growth over the past year. His leadership, vision, and passion for design have not only elevated the firm’s creative output but also expanded its reach, particularly in Saudi Arabia, where RSP has secured several prestigious projects in 2024 alone. From large-scale mixed-use developments to high-end hospitality projects, RSP is now firmly established as a key player in the region’s evolving construction industry.
With over 20 years of experience, Michael has a talent for pushing creative boundaries while keeping a sharp focus on client needs and project goals. This blend of artistic innovation and practical expertise has made him a respected figure within the studio and across the broader architecture community.
One of Michael’s standout achievements in 2023, was leading the design of the Lagerfeld Residential Development, a luxury project that has achieved significant attention. He took the design ethos of Karl Lagerfeld and blended it with a distinctly local flavour, incorporating Dubai’s modern essence into Lagerfeld’s sophisticated design philosophy. Michael’s approach balanced natural light, ergonomic principles, and sustainable materials, all aimed at enhancing the well-being of residents. The result was a high-end living experience that went well beyond client expectations. Michael worked closely with Taraf Properties and the Lagerfeld team, leading workshops in both Dubai and Paris to ensure that every aspect of the design- from the master plan to the interior finishes- honored Lagerfeld’s legacy. This wasn’t just another luxury development, it was a tribute to Karl’s unique style and vision. By the time the project launched in March 2024, both Taraf and the Lagerfeld team were extremely pleased with the outcome which has since set a new standard for high-end residential design in the region.
In the past year, Aldar Properties launched the Nobu Hotel & Branded Residences on Saadiyat Island, Abu Dhabi. Michael led the design on this project, as one of RSP’s major hospitality projects seamlessly integrating Japanese influences that reflect the renowned international Nobu’s distinctive essence. The design draws heavily on minimalism, a hallmark of Japanese
architecture, while also incorporating subtle local influences to create a unique lifestyle experience.
Another project that was successfully launched this year which was led by Michael is the high-end residences with Dubai Holding called Elara Residences in Madinat Jumeirah Living. The development consists of mid-rise buildings with views of the iconic Burj Al Arab and Madinat Jumeirah.
Beyond Dubai, Michael has played a pivotal role in RSP’s expansion into Saudi Arabia, where the firm has seen a surge in winning high-profile projects. Over the past year, RSP has become a trusted partner for some of the Kingdom’s most prominent clients, including PIF entities like Qiddiya, Diriyah Gate, ROSHN, and SEVEN. These large-scale mixed-use developments and prestigious hospitality projects have cemented RSP’s status as a leading design firm in the region.
Michael’s ability to adapt to the unique demands of each project has earned him praise from clients. Whether he’s designing a luxury villa in Dubai or overseeing a large-scale mixed-use development in Saudi Arabia, Michael brings the same level of care, creativity, and attention to detail. His expertise in blending contemporary design with cultural context
has been a key factor in RSP’s success in the region, where projects often require a delicate balance between modernity and tradition.
In addition to the firm’s ongoing projects, Michael has also been instrumental in RSP’s internal growth. In June 2024, RSP completed its move to a new office in Downtown Dubai, a project that Michael personally oversaw. The new office, which now has double the capacity of the previous space, reflects RSP’s evolving brand and future ambitions. With its creative layout, vibrant breakout areas, and collaborative workspaces, the new studio is a testament to Michael’s vision for a workplace that fosters both productivity and creativity. Looking ahead, it’s clear that Michael’s leadership will continue to shape RSP’s trajectory. As the firm takes on even more ambitious projects in Saudi Arabia and beyond, Michael’s ability to balance creativity with strategic thinking will be crucial in maintaining RSP’s standing as a leader in the architecture world.

To him, nature is the greatest library and it’s no surprise that biophilic design is so emergent as a key driver in many designs. By integrating insights from these inter-
principles are ingrained in the very DNA of the design.
From commercial places to hospitality venues, residential projects, and beyond, each area presents an opportunity for creativity and innovation. He finds aviation architecture more interesting due to its emotive nature. Designing spaces within airports and aircraft re-

A MASTERPIECE of Sustainable Design
The Oman Convention & Exhibition Centre (OCEC) sets new standards in sustainable architecture, blending modern design with eco-conscious features. From solar panels to biodiversity gardens, it leads the region in green initiatives while enhancing visitor experiences.
The OCEC’s exceptional design goes beyond aesthetics - it is a space that fosters creativity, collaboration, and a sense of grandeur, inspiring event organisers and participants alike.
In recent years, business event venues worldwide have undergone a transformation, where the visitor experience now goes hand-in-hand with environmental responsibility. Beyond offering cutting-edge technology and first-class facilities, these venues integrate clean, modern designs, innovative sustainable features, and advanced digitalisation to create spaces that truly stand out. The Oman Convention & Exhibition Centre (OCEC) exemplifies this shift, setting new benchmarks not only in architecture but in sustainability.
The OCEC recently celebrated a significant win at the Sustainability Innovation Awards, a testament to its unwavering commitment to reducing its environmental impact. This recognition speaks volumes about the centre's ambition to lead the way in sustainable design while offering visitors a world-class experience.
At the heart of this experience is the OCEC’s breathtaking architecture. The famous Sultan’s Rose graces the rose-shaped dome, a striking feature that crowns the Madinat Al Irfan Theatre and has become an iconic symbol of modern Omani architecture. For the past eight years, the OCEC has been praised for its unique design, which artfully blends modern aesthetics with practical, eco-conscious elements. Surrounding
the venue are thriving gardens, meticulously maintained with a focus on biodiversity. These gardens are replenished with fruit trees, bee farms, and plants that support the local ecosystem. “Some call it a spa, a little jewel,” says Eng. Said Al Shanfari, CEO of the Oman Convention & Exhibition Centre. “Many visitors, whether local or international, notice the striking architecture, the use of natural light to reduce artificial lighting, open spaces, clean white marble, and the overall modern design. This elevates their experience, making it truly unique.”

of OMRAN's projects to receive this prestigious recognition. At the time, it also held the highest LEED point score in the Sultanate. With this certification, the OCEC showcased the intelligent design and the careful use of materials. For instance, the OCEC’s architecture maximises natural lighting and airflow, reducing the reliance on artificial light and air conditioning systems, which are typically significant energy consumers in such large venues. This thoughtful architectural approach ensures
that sustainability is seamlessly integrated with the overall visitor experience.
In its ongoing pursuit of sustainability, OCEC has partnered with TotalEnergies Renewables Middle East & Africa for a rooftop solar photovoltaic project. This 4.6 megawatt-peak (MWp) solar rooftop installation is set to produce 7,805 megawatts-hours (MWh) of solar energy annually, which covers approximately one-fourth of OCEC’s electricity needs. This collaboration exemplifies the
venue’s commitment to reducing its carbon footprint and supporting Oman’s renewable energy goals.
"Our partnership with TotalEnergies is a major step towards achieving our long-term sustainability objectives,” explains Al Shanfari. "This project not only enhances our venue’s green credentials but also provides a tangible example of how corporate collaboration can drive meaningful change in sustainability efforts."

Tala Mortada, Chief Creative Officer at Factory People, shares the vision behind Soul Kitchen, focussing on its innovative concept and design.
What inspired you to create the concept of Soul Kitchen, and how does it
reflect your personal journey?
We created the concept of Soul Kitchen in Dubai to reflect the journey of migrating our original concept from Beirut. We drew inspiration from the Levantine Arabs who, throughout history, have often been forced to leave their homelands and start anew—a journey we call "al hijra" in Arabic, meaning migration, symbolized by the birds that became our central theme.
Soul Kitchen’s design in Dubai draws from its original Beirut location. How did you approach adapting the interior design to maintain its essence while also catering to a new environment?
Soul Kitchen in Dubai is an elevated evolution of what we first created in Beirut. The original location features found materials and objects, like the concrete blocks known as "mashrabiya" used for ventilation in buildings. We reinterpreted those blocks in the ceiling design of Soul Kitchen Dubai, along with the signature birds and feathers, which now appear as striking installations throughout the space.
The menu at Soul Kitchen features a fusion of Arab and South American flavors. Can you tell us about the creative process behind some of the key dishes, such as the Hummus Chimichurri and White Fish Tabboule Ceviche?
In the 19th century, many of our ancestors migrated to South America, where an incredible fusion of Levantine and Latin American cuisines emerged. Our menu is a direct tribute to that cultural

blend and you can see it and taste it through Chef Margarita’s blend of colours, ingredients, and spices, as well as how we merged very Latin American and very Lebanese iconic recipes together.
Soul Kitchen has become known for its unique events like Monday Jazz nights and Latin Sunday nights. What drives the curation of these events, and how do they enhance the overall experience at the restaurant?
Weekends at Soul Kitchen take on a groovy, dance-filled vibe after dinner, transforming the space into a lively spot where the community can perform, listen, eat, drink, or simply dance the night away.
Our music programming is curated by my partner, Wassim Bou Malham, a rockstar producer and musician with a deep passion for global sounds. He ensures that Soul Kitchen remains a hub for musical discovery, inspiration, and collaboration with exciting artists from around the world.
Our Monday Jazz nights have become a sensation in Dubai, offering guests the chance to experience alternative jazz bands from various countries, pushing the boundaries of contemporary jazz.
We also host music diggers and curators from across the globe on special nights. Latin Sundays, for instance, allow guests to explore the sounds of a different Latin American country each time. From this idea we created Ceviche and Bellinis Wednesdays, to celebrate our iconic ceviches and our OG Arak Bellini, all in the spirit of reinforcing our story from different angles every night.
On weekends, the vibe shifts to a more groovy, danceable atmosphere after dinner, turning Soul Kitchen into a space where our community can perform, listen, eat, drink, or simply dance the night away.
In what ways did you incorporate storytelling into the design elements at Soul Kitchen, particularly in the art installations and decor choices?
The geometric ‘mashrabiya’ ceiling is a standout feature in the Dubai location. Can you tell us more about its significance and how it ties into both the local architecture and the Soul Kitchen brand?
Art installations are a central feature at Soul Kitchen. Can you share the stories behind some of the most impactful installations, like the rotating mechanical flock of birds and Rumi Dalle’s ‘Feathers of Migrating Birds’?
When designing the interior, I wanted to stay true to the essence of the original Soul Kitchen. Green remains a dominant color, complemented by trees and plants to bring life to the space. This organic feel is balanced by warm terracotta tones and bold geometric structures in the woodwork for a more sophisticated, elevated look. The geometric "mashrabiya" in the ceiling—a nod to both the Beirut location and Lebanese architecture—adds a final touch of authenticity. >>>
Behind the bar, you’ll find a constantly rotating mechanical installation of a flock of birds, co-designed by myself and creative director Hamza Mekdad. This piece tells the centuries-old story of Levantine people who’ve had to leave their homes in search of inspiration, safety, and a sense of belonging.
Suspended above the green room is Rumi Dalle’s installation, “Feathers of Migrating Birds,” where 150 feathers each represent the journey of a migrating artisan, from Beirut to Dubai, perfectly aligned with Soul Kitchen’s narrative.
Rumi Dalle, an acclaimed artist from Beirut, has handcrafted works for Hermes and Iwan Maktabi, among others.

carpets from Iwan Maktabi, part of a semi-permanent installation that will reinvent itself every six months, showcasing new works by artists and curators we admire.
How does the concept of migration influence not only the design and atmosphere of Soul Kitchen but also its role as a communal space in Dubai?
We launched Soul Kitchen in Beirut about seven years ago, creating a space where we could unwind with great cocktails and play the music we loved at home. It was the first cocktail bar of its kind, tucked inside The Grand Factory— our very first club in Beirut.
Our goal was to build a place where we truly belonged, where friends could
gather while being part of a club that hosted some of the world’s biggest artists and DJs week after week.
Soul Kitchen quickly became more than just a bar; it shaped how we dressed, how we danced, and even our drinking culture, giving rise to the unique "soul kitchenesque" style.
In Dubai, Soul Kitchen serves a similar purpose: a place to enjoy beautifully curated music, an elevated cocktail bar experience, and most importantly, incredible food. This homey feeling that we were able to transport with us created a new hub, or nest, for our community and friends to meet up every week.
As Soul Kitchen continues to grow and evolve, what future collaborations or new concepts are you most excited about bringing to the space?
We've just opened our terrace, are adding a tequila bar and lounge to the green room, launching a club next door for more music-centered nights, and creating a bar bistro for a laid-back daytime vibe.
