Don Diamont loves a happy snap – and here he is, frolicking in snowy Canada. “It was our first time traveling on Christmas Day,” he says. “We did presents in the morning, and headed to the airport. Everybody was really excited and it was an incredible payoff arriving in beautiful Whistler [a resort in British Columbia] to a magnificent snowfall.” The shot of Don and his wife Cindy (exAmy) was taken on New Year’s Eve – which just so happens to be Diamont’s birthday! “We had such a blast last year so, we’re doing the same thing this year! The holidays give our large family a chance to all be together during a really special time. We placed lot of value in that, particularly as the boys get older. With girlfriends, and eventually wive and families of their own, everybody bein together is more challenging.” 6

“This year, Christmas is really about my son [Ford],” says hunky Scott, adding that his festive focus was on family, community and Santa Claus! “You think I could have said that last year, but he’s threeand-a-half this year. He really understands everything. We weren’t sure we wanted to lie about Santa, and how to do it. But this Christmas is about giving him the most positive experience possible, and forging new family traditions moving forward.” Like Jennifer Gareis, Scott’s holiday plans were to stay close to home. His wife Nikki headed off to Paris for 10 days, during which time the actor relished all the oneon-one time with Ford. His favourite holiday memories are opening and giving presents on Christmas Eve. Then, the family would order Chinese takeout! “When I was young, my mum would do this cool thing,” he recalls. “She would take me on Christmas Eve with care packages that she would make [that included]) food, clothing, a first-aid kit, a small wad of cash, and we would drive around downtown and give homeless people the care packages.” That’s the spirit!

Like her co-stars, KKL planned on staying close to home this year with her family, which includes her boyfriend Dom, sons Jeremy and Julian, daughter Zoe and granddaughter Zuma. “We’re kicked off the Christmas season by throwing a nice party/Christmas dinner with family, friends, and business partners,” says Kelly, who often welcomes friends from Italy, New Orleans, and, of course, LA when she entertains. Her favourite traditions are buying, setting up, and decorating a jolly Christmas tree, along with swapping presents with family and friends, and drinking eggnog! “We love to sup hot chocolate with Carl, the Drinking Chocolate Snowman (ecolechocolat.com). Noelle says her favorite holiday tradition has been leaving cookies and milk out for Santa and carrots for his reindeer on Christmas Eve. Annika planned a quiet holiday at home with her loved ones. Twelve months ago she embarked on quite the adventure! “I took a trip to Inari, Finland, for my birthday where I got to see the Aurora Borealis for the first time. It was magical,” Annika Noelle.

We’re a family now! And from here on out, Christmas morning is going to be such a special day for us to see our kid’s faces light up! It’ll be so much fun!” Like their co-stars, Darin and Kelly stayed closed to home. The plan was for everyone to wear matching PJs and get up together. “Kelly ordered them so we could take a Christmas photo in our matching pyjamas!” Darin’s favourite holiday tradition is making a huge breakfast. “Kelly makes a big egg frittata recipe she got from my mum, who used to make it for us every year,” the actors says. “Then we do pancakes, avocado, turkey bacon and especially my famous breakfast potatoes! (My Aunt Lila who passed the recipe on to me.)” After breakfast and coffee, Brooks says it’s opening presents time and emptying the holiday stockings! Even the couple’s beloved dogs get stockings with puppy treats inside. “They burrow their faces in and try to dig out all the treats!” Next, the clan talks a nice long walk

around the neighbourhood. “It’s a simple but definitely fun tradition for us!” Darin has so many holiday memories but one in particular stands out for him. “One year, we got my childhood dog back in the day on Christmas morning! That was fun! Maybe we’ll have to do that for Everleigh when she gets a little older and add another puppy to this already packed house!” “I have two actually,” says Kelly of her special family holiday memories. “When we were kids, we would go to my great aunt’s house in Florida every Christmas. She would have a huge gingerbread house made of candy! After dinner on Christmas Eve, we would lay a big sheet on the ground and all the kids would dive in and smash the house and eat it! It was so much fun! “The second memory would have to be last year. We did the usual – woke up, made breakfast, did presents and stockings. Then, my parents came over and we went on a walk. Maddy, our late pug, was too old at that time to walk. So I put her in this carrier (a Snuggit, made by a friend of ours: Google it!) I recall thinking, This is what it might feel like to be pregnant one day. Because I was carrying all this extra weight in front of me. When she hears a knock at her door, she’s expecting to see him back to grovel – but is horrified to see Maggie staring back at her! Thunderstruck to see Kristen, Maggie gulps as Kristen slams the door, dons the Nicole mask and, taking advantage of the drunkard, reveals her fake persona to her. Convincing Maggie she also saw Nicole the first time, Kristen orders her to go home and sleep it off. Closing the door, she breathes heavily, praying that Maggie doesn’t blab her ugly little secret...

atrina Bowden’s star sure is rising – on the big and small screens. She was making waves in Brisbane recently, shooting a shark thriller called Great White. Meanwhile, she has been wowing audiences as Flo on The Bold and the Beautiful. Her tug-of-war with Sally for Wyatt’s heart is one of the soap’s most engaging storylines. And the mother-daughter duo of Flo and Shauna has also shaken up the worlds of the Forresters and the Logans to thrilling effect. Here, the 30 Rock alum chats to TV SOAP about shooting her fintastic flick down under, her rollercoaster ride as Flo, and the bond she shares with co-star Denise Richards...

If you’re ever in that situation you have to think of extreme survival techniques to get by.

Yeah! That’s what Americans think. We think that koalas and kangaroos are just jumping around everywhere and that there’s just snakes lurking around every corner, but it’s not quite like that. These creatures, they don’t just hang around waiting for you. You have to go and find them, I think.

So we won’t be seeing you on our screens as Flo for a while then?

You do! I don’t know if I would do that. That seems a little crazy, but hey, that would be one way to survive.

I’m actually flying back to LA tomorrow and I start shooting again. It might not be until the New Year until I’m actually back on the screen.

But you did get stung by a nasty ol’ jellyfish while you were in Australia.

In the meantime, it’s good to see Flo’s mother Shauna and Ridge getting closer.

We were shooting a few days on a prawn farm, on the Gold Coast, and they had all these jellyfish in the water and one of them stung me in the middle of a scene, but it was fine. It was

I know! They’re fun together.

I think beforehand, Flo seemed quite disapproving. She said that with Ridge being

a married man Shauna shouldn’t really go there... Yeah. I think, well, Flo doesn’t want her mum to just cause more trouble because Flo has caused enough trouble for herself and she just kind of wants to make things right, and not shake things up too much. But her mum seems pretty intent on keeping things shaken up! Yeah, it’s been a fun dynamic between Shauna and Flo. I think it’s been really fun – and funny.

Last time we spoke you said you had a natural chemistry with Denise Richards, who plays Shauna. We do, yeah! We’re both pretty lighthearted and don’t take things too seriously and we have a lot of fun. I think that our chemistry really shows itself in our scenes together.

Is it a lot of fun on the B&B set, in between takes? Yeah, absolutely! I mean, on some days we’re really rushed for time. If we’re doing really heavy emotional scenes, we don’t start laughing in between takes, but yeah, we have a ton of fun. It’s a blast. Definitely with the whole cast, they’re amazing and really fun to work with.

What sort of feedback have you had from

Tell us about the movie you’ve made – Great White.

I think it’s going to be really great. It’s a very characterdriven survival movie [with] tons of action. I thought it was an absolute blast!

I read that you were in a raft with some other people. Did you ever consider tossing someone over the side so you would be safe and they’d be ravaged by any maneating sharks? I mean, it’s certainly an idea, but, no, we didn’t! People kind of fell off on their own!

“I think she’ll try to win her man back... we’ll see!”

diehard, longtime B&B fanatics about Flo? Well, it’s been kind of a rollercoaster ride! I think, in the beginning, they didn’t like her, they didn’t like her coming in and shaking things up, but you kind of need characters to do that every now and then. Fans have had a love-hate relationship with her where they really love her, but they don’t like what she’s done. They kind of go back and forth between liking her and not liking her, which I think is really cool, because it makes the character interesting and those are the kind of characters I like to play: characters that might not be the best, most angelic person on Earth, but you still like them anyway because you want to see what happens next!

Flo does seem like a hugely enjoyable character to play, from a fan’s perspective. It’s been really fun for me to play that type of character because I think Flo is also like... she’s done some bad things, but I don’t think she’s a bad person deep down. I think she’s just a little bit scrappy, gets caught up in things really, really quickly and doesn’t really know how to control it. I think the fans are seeing that of her and kind of learning who she is, and liking her more now that they know who she is and [she’s] not just someone who came in and did a terrible thing.

But she hasn’t received forgiveness from the Logans or the Forresters yet? Not yet. I don’t know if Brooke and Hope will ever forgive her, to be honest.

It doesn’t look like we’re going to see Dr Reese Buckingham back. His storyline seems to have flatlined...

Yeah. I don’t know. How cool would it be if Reese came back into the picture even for a little bit, just to shake things up even more? I think his character was kind of a whirlwind. It would be fun to have him back, at least for a little bit.

and Wyatt: what will happen there, you think? Yeah, that’s definitely a big question for her. Flo wants to get her man back, so I think that’s probably going to be her focus for a little bit, winning him back all over again. She was kind of doing it a little bit and then I went away. Summoning hendrix’s mother to ramsay Street to deal with him backfires on Chloe when Pierce’s ex drops a bombshell!

Now the popular character is getting a sexy, spooky modern update in new series Nancy Drew. Australia’s own Sinead Curry is powerful and hypnotic as Tiffany, a socialite who’s mysteriously murdered. Solving Tiffany’s murder is one of the major themes as teen detective Nancy and pals get on the case. During a break in shooting, Sinead combines a visit home with a chat to TV SOAP about Nancy Drew, her character, her history in supernatural shows and why foreigners think Oz’s full of killer creatures...

You were in iZombie...

I played a zombie out at dinner, so looking like a normal everyday person. The zombies in that universe are able to disguise themselves using modern technology, like hair dye and fake tan. They kind of fake-tanned me a bit. Zombies are very, very white and then they cover themselves with fake tan to blend in...

Is there a supernatural bent to your career? You were in iZombie, now this!

Yes, absolutely! Wonderful, because in supernatural land you can do almost anything!

You only get one line in this before you get killed off... That’s right. My role in the pilot was turn up and die! I didn’t realise Tiffany as a character would be needed for any other subsequent episodes. And then luckily, to our surprise, she was! So she comes back essentially in flashbacks and then she possesses someone at some point. It’s great; it’s really fun.

We’re shooting at a couple of different locations in Vancouver. We’re filming sometimes out on this incredible jetty as the sun goes down and orcas swim past and there’s sometimes seals. It’s just very Canadian and lovely!

and visit family. Which is great because I really missed everybody from home. I miss Australia, too, as if Australia itself is a friend. It will always be home to me: Sydney is a very special place to have grown up.

And people like the show?

Is Canada similar?

Essentially, yes, a stereotypical socialite. And then wonderfully the writing team gave her an excellent backstory where she’s multifaceted and intelligent and a strong woman who sticks to her instincts. She’s really quite protective of the people that she loves, she loves literature, she engages quite honestly and openly with her friends. She’s a little bit of an outsider, but the people who she connects with, she does actually really create meaningful relationships with. So that’s been really nice to play essentially a real woman.

Oh my goodness, the fans are such a vibrant community. I love them. Not only do they comment on the plot and have their own idea of who might’ve killed either Dead Lucy or Tiffany, but more importantly they’re generating content based on the shows, creating imagery, making art, all because of Nancy Drew! It’s fascinating just how much, particularly the more youthful members of our audience, have been inspired by the show to then create it and put it out into the social media landscape; wonderful!

Yes. Everyone’s really friendly. It’s safe. It’s easy to get around and very naturally beautiful in a different way to here. They have spectacular mountains and lush forest landscapes covered in snow most of the year. We have amazing beaches and animals trying to kill us all the time.

It’s tough at first to feel sympathy for snooty Tiffany.

Oh, it’s lovely! Some sets you turn up and it’s not as warm and welcoming. This set has been absolutely delightful. The people playing our leads, so Kennedy [McCann, who plays Nancy Drew], Leah, Tunji, Alex and Maddison, are such sweethearts. All down-to-earth, young people. Beautiful. Even the crews are lovely. It’s kind of outrageous how nice it is.

Well, we’re still making season one. I don’t know anything about who killed me.

You’re still on season one? It’s still happening. So right now I’m not needed in the episodes so I was able to come home 28

Is that what people say? Yeah, a lot of the time people say, “Oh, you’re from Australia, you have really big spiders, don’t you?” And I say, “Yes, we do. They’re huge!” But that’s how people kind of view us, that everything around us is trying to kill us all the time. It’s such a gorgeous country, but, boy, we’ve got competition from the insects and the animals.

What does the future hold? To my knowledge, Tiffany will be revisited in the following eps of season one. And, honestly, my career’s never been so good and so vibrant. I love being back. I’m working on a couple of things, voice-over, theatre, and auditioning a lot for TV while I’m here. I may end up being based between Vancouver and Sydney, or somewhere in the next 12 months.
