more than a race
Swissalpine – more than a race ! Spor t and mountains were made for each other : And such a combination results in a per formance brim full of emotions. Experience another side of the Davos/Bergün mountains. Transcend your boundaries as runner or walker. Full of variety and challenge, stretching over more than 238 km, and with altitudes of up to 2‘600 m – from flowerfilled Summer, through late Spring and into Winter, the mountains call.
The Davos Region is quite unique. Unique for its parallel worlds: town and hamlets, culture and nature, viaducts and tunnels, feats of structural engineering and log cabins – all beautifully harmonized with nature. Zuegen Gorge, Wiesen Viaduct, the Albula railway, Landwasser Viaduct, Parc Ela, Sunniberg Bridge – all pure poetry to any fan of the Davos Region. The area’s cultural history merges with its present. So much so, that you almost expect to see Ernst Ludwig Kirchner or Thomas Mann coming around a corner at any moment. The alpine climate is healthy for body, mind and soul. In other words, the air at altitudes of between 1’500 m and 2’500 m is good for your circulation, metabolism, blood, respiration – and your mind. Communities:

Looking For ward to 2012 Sertig route The biggest mountain ultramarathon in the world, and the ultimate challenge. 21 km of the race is on high alpine terrain. Sertig route The highest high altitude marathon in Europe – a jewel in the alpine crown. The ascent and descent, combined with the high altitude and the partially rough mountain track, make the K42 one of the most challenging mountain races. The C42 is Switzerland’s first culture marathon. Enjoy the sights while you run, in a positively captivating landscape park rich with culture. Particular senior valuation.
Sertig Pass, we‘re coming back! On 28 July 2012, athletes will again be able to follow the Sertig Pass route, just like in the years 1986 to 1997 and in 2011. Organisation in terms of safety and logistics is easier to implement when following this route. The health and safety of all the runners has top priority. By following the Sertig Pass route they spend less time at 2,500 m above sea-level, and in the event of bad weather conditions it will be possible to fly for longer periods. K78 target finish time Extending the maximum time to 14 hours has proved successful. The target finish time remains 09.00 pm.
The K30 starts, as before, in Davos. The varied route passes through the romantic Zügen Gorge, as well as over the impressive Wiesen Viaduct.
Two K42/K21 starting groups By splitting the runners into two starting groups, we should be able to avoid the tailbacks of previous years.
The K21 starts on the spectacular Sunniberg Bridge in Klosters. The route is exciting and full of variety.
WALK now 10 kilometres long. Nordic walking is just as fashionable now as it has ever been as a way of improving health, in spite of a significant drop in the number of people taking part in the sport. By shortening the course to 10 kilometres, we want to encourage a wider target audience to participate in the Walk.
The K10 goes past the superb Davos Lake. It is aimed primarily at beginners. Participants’ health is our number one priority.
In 2012, for the first time the Nordic Walk will take place over a distance of 10 km and no longer over the half-marathon distance. The course is the same as the K10.
MINI – extra «Teenies» category With effect from 2012, 11 and 12 year olds will again be able to take part in the 1.4 km long MINI race.
No-one is too small to take part, or to enjoy the very special atmosphere. Registration only at the race number pick-up until friday 02.30 pm. The race fee is CHF 10 / EUR 8. All participants receive a small gift.

Instruc tions Training: As endurance runs of many hours duration up to an altitude of 2,739 m above sea level, K78, K42 und C42 place particularly tough demands on a participant’s stamina. Only absolutely healthy and highly trained runners can withstand these conditions. An acclimatization period of at least five days before the race at a suitable altitude (c. 1,500 m above sea level) is advised.
Luggage transport, changing: Luggage for K42, C42, K30 and K21 will be transported from the start to the finish line. Luggage transport from Davos to Bergün (and back) will be arranged for K78 to enable participants to change their clothes. Luggage must be handed in the designated place at least 30 minutes before the start. The organisation committee ist not liable for any missing or damaged luggage.
Illness: Suffering from an infectious disease (angina, flu etc.) shortly before the race can significantly reduce your stamina and have serious consequences for your health (e.g. damage to heart muscle). Those suffering from such illnesses in the six to eight weeks prior to the race must consult a doctor. Participants over 35 years of age who are taking part in the K78 for the first time are advised to undergo a thorough medical examination.
Gear: In the high alpine region between Chants and Sertig Dörfli, changes in the weather and temperature can occur very rapidly. Good protection against the sun, cold and rain is necessary. Walking sticks/poles may only be used on the WALK.
Inability to take part: If you are unable to take part in the race as a result of illness or an accident, you can postpone your participation to the following year on payment of administration costs of CHF 30 (EUR 25) and submission of a doctor‘s certificate. Entry fees cannot be reimbursed.
Medical service: The medical service located at 17 points or patrols is a free service to participants. The deployment of a helicopter is undertaken at a participant’s own expense. The medical service has the right to remove runners from the race for a certain period of time, or altogether, if they are insufficiently equipped or are at risk of endangering their health.
Travel, transport: Davos can be reached by train from Zurich airport, changing at Zurich main station and Landquart. For rail timetable see on www.sbb.ch. GA-pass holders are not entitled to refunds. On race day, participants will be transported to the start by train and bus. Train transport to the start of K21, K10 and WALK is available only from Klosters Platz resp. Davos Platz for all participants. The timetable will be published online at www.swissalpine.ch from June, as well as to hand out with the race documents. Massage: At 10 points a free massage service will be offered. For capacity reasons, priority is given to participants in K78, K42 and C42. Route: Runners must not depart from the marked route. The K78 and K42 route will be monitored by a runner and closed at the following times: Filisur 11.25 am, Bergün 01.10 pm, Chants 02.45 pm, Keschhütte 04.30 pm, Sertig Dörfli 06.35 pm Closure of finish lines: Finish line closure K30 in Filisur: 12.30 pm. Runners arriving later than these times will be removed from the race. K78 starters who feel unable to continue the race may terminate their run at the K30 finish line in Filisur. In such cases the runners will be given a placing in the K30. Prizes: All entrants receive a medal. K78, K42 and C42 also receive a Finisher‘s T-Shirt. K30, K21, K10 and WALK receive
a Swissalpine T-Shirt. The highest placed runners of all the races (except WALK) receive natural product prizes.
