NEW RESTRICTIONS: All nonessential workers stopped The Spanish Prime Minister Pedro Sanchez has announced stricter confinement orders in a bid to slow the spread of the coronavirus as Spain’s figures continue to rise at an alarming rate. From yesterday, Monday 30th March until Thursday 9th April all nonessential work activities were stopped. The measure, which was approved on Sunday at an extraordinary Cabinet meeting, is aimed at limiting as much as possible the circulation of persons and thus flattening the curve of infections. "Workers of non-essential activities should stay at home," the Prime Minister said. The upward trend in the number of deaths from coronavirus in recent days has led the Government to toughen the confinement of the 47 million Spaniards. The Government had tried to avoid this measure, despite growing requests from the opposition and its allies, due to the economic impact it will have. Essential services are those considered necessary for the maintenance of basic social functions (health, security, social and economic wellbeing of citizens), or the efficient working of the institutions of state and public administrations, such as the health sector, security forces, telecommunications and the power

sector. The royal decree that was published late on Sunday night includes an appendix with 25 points that detail the activities that will continue to function. Beyond the activities already prohibited, the new restriction will prevent, for example, industrial activity in sectors not considered essential to fight the epidemic, or construction. Essential work is defined as: - Medical, health and pharmacy activities - Food production activities - Transport of food merchandise - Certain passenger and merchandise transport - Distribution of gas and water - Generation and distribution of electrical energy - Food, beverage, products and goods establishments First need - Establishments of hygienic products, pharmacies, opticians and shops of orthopaedic products - Establishments of press and stationery - Tobacconists - Dry cleaners and laundrettes - Establishments for pet food - Oil refining, distribution of fuels and gas stations

- Telecommunications and equipment stores technology - Ports and airports - Media - State security forces and bodies Also operational will be banking services, lawyers and notaries, as well as telecommunications, audiovisual and essential IT service companies, trash collection, cleaning services and organizations that offer protection and attention to gender violence victims, or those who assist dependants or the disabled. Labour Minister Yolanda Díaz explained after the Cabinet meeting that home working is not affected by the measure. That’s to say, that in cases where employees can work from home, they should continue to do so. The opening of bars, restaurants, nightclubs, cultural and leisure facilities, sports venues, amusement parks, auditoriums continues to be suspended, and open-air dances, parades, popular festivals and folkloric demonstrations in open venues and public roads are all prohibited. Of course, the restrictions on people only going out for essential food shopping and medical appointments only also remains in place.

Provision for the workers The paralysation of non-essential activities does not mean that workers will not get their salaries. They will continue to be paid as normal by their companies under a system of paid recoverable leave. When the emergency situation is over, they will work the hours they missed on a gradual basis. “We are talking about 15 days, but in reality they are eight working days,” Yolanda Díaz explained, given that Thursday and Friday of Easter week are holidays in most of Spain’s regions. “These are not obligatory vacation days,” she added. “We will let each sector negotiate how it will manage the

payback of the hours. These are days that must be returned, and there is a time frame to do so up to 31st December, 2020.” However, this new clamp down will add a huge strain to the business community, especially small business owners who have to pay staff not to work, pay tax and social security as normal - but have absolutely no income or revenue coming in what-so-ever. There was a little leeway yesterday as the government realised that people would not be able to just not turn up for work and that some companies might need to finish certain tasks.

Keeping your home Coronavirus free While many of us are on lockdown here in Spain, some of us have to put ourselves at risk – by going to the supermarket for food, by having to go to work if our sector is forced to continue during the State of Alarm, or even simply by being out to walk the dog. If you are forced to leave the safety of your home, what can you do to ensure you are not bringing Covid-19 home with you when you return? Here are some tips which may help... Wash your hands You’ve heard it a million times (and you’ll hear it a million more). Washing your hands is by far the best way to

lower your risk of contracting or passing on Coronavirus. Wash your hands after you cough, sneeze, touch your face, use the toilet, or are about to leave one place for another (for example, leaving your place of work to come home). Before you leave the supermarket to return home, use hand sanitizer. When you arrive home, wash your hands. It’s also important to liberally moisturize your hands. Dry, cracked skin is at greater risk for all kinds of infections, so after you wash, apply a little moisturizer or make hand cream part of your night time routine. Border control at home The virus can live in the air, and can be transmitted when someone coughs, so staying home during lockdown is so important. Because the virus can live for three days on some surfaces, we also

must be vigilant about what comes in the door. Start with a clean, coronavirus-free house. Wipe down and disinfect all surfaces including door handles, light switches, worktops, sinks and taps. Next, take care not to bring the virus in by creating a coming-home routine that everyone in the family is aware of. Make everyone come in through the same door, preferably one close to a sink. Put a sign on the door reminding those entering to remove shoes — which have been on surfaces where people could have coughed, sneezed or spit — and wash their hands. Agree on

a transition zone where shoe removal, etc will take place. This could be on your terrace or porch, before entering the interior of your home. Have a cleaning station here ready to sanitise items touched and carried while outside – keys, mobile phone, wallet, bag and shoes. A spray bottle of alcohol sanitiser or watered down bleach can work well (but be careful of too strong a bleach solution on fabrics). If you’re coming home after being in a high-risk environment, like a health centre or hospital, remove your clothes and put them straight into the washing machine (don’t put them in with the rest of your laundry). Wash them at 60 degrees with regular detergent, and take a shower. Coming home from the supermarket – a clean routine

Infection occurs when the virus is on your hands, and you touch your eyes, nose or mouth. When you are at the supermarket, bring hand sanitizer with you and try not to touch your face until you’ve used hand sanitizer or washed your hands. Keep your car clean by wiping your steering wheel, dashboard and door handles with disinfectant. Put the shopping bags in your boot, not inside the car. Once home, put bags in the transition zone. After you wash your hands, unload your shopping and wipe down cartons and cans as you put them away. Put empty bags outside, directly into the recycle bin, and clean the counter. Make sure everyone is on board Your home is only as clean as its least adherent person. You can be perfect, but if your partner or children don’t follow the rules, all your effort will have has gone to waste. Make sure that everyone understands the seriousness and importance of the clean routine. If necessary, don’t take turns shopping.

Decide between you and your partner who should do the weekly shopping trip and stick to it. Cleaning vs Disinfecting Cleaning and disinfecting aren’t the same. Soap cleans, and is the first choice for hands. It works by allowing dirt and

germs to detach from the skin and get rinsed off. Wash your hands for 20

Officer injured breaking Elche police will monitor beaches and up lockdown ‘party’ parks with drones Elche Local Police announced on Friday that officers will be using drones to monitor beaches and open spaces from now on to ensure citizens are complying with the lockdown. Since Friday, a high tech drone surveillance unit is being used by the team of officers to strengthen local surveillance. A spokesperson for the police force revealed that the drone will serve as the eyes of the officers in monitoring areas which are difficult to police on foot. The mayor of Elche, Carlos González, announced the measure on Friday morning and assured citizens that Elche City Council has all the administrative authorizations and trained operators to ensure the drone project is a success. Regarding the compliance with

restrictions on staying at home, the mayor said that the “vast majority” of Elche people are displaying "model behavior". However, he did make reference to those who continue to disobey police orders. On Thursday alone, the National and Local Police filed 207 new complaints, arrested 3 people, identified 379 people and detected 25 vehicles circulating without authorization. Elche Local Police first looked at drone use back in February but has moved plans forward in order to be able to better police the municipal are during the State of Alarm. Draft regulations had been drawn up when police first looked at the project but due to the current urgency, the legislation was pushed through this week.

An officer sustained injuries during the arrest of four people who were throwing a party while supposed to be under lockdown in Torrevieja. The Guardia Civil officer had to call for backup after being punched while trying to ascertain the identities of two men and two women. The four have been arrested and taken into custody, charged with civil disobedience and assault. The incident took place when nearby residents complained to authorities about a ‘rather loud party’. Arriving to the scene, officers saw that several people (not resident at the address where the party was taking place) had gathered to have a party – now illegal under the State of Alarm rules. The officers realised an illegal gathering was underway and proceeded to ask for the documentation of those present to confirm their suspicions, and to remind those gathered about social limitations due to the state of the alarm brought

about by the coronavirus pandemic. The four people present, two men and two women aged 28, 29, 22 and 36 years old, repeatedly denied the Guardia Civil officers’ requests to provide identification and in the midst of an argument between one of the men and one of the officers, the man punched the Guardia Civil who then called for backup because as soon as he tried to restrain the young man, the others are alleged to have ‘pounced’ on the officer. The four were brought before the sitting judge in Torrevieja’s Court number 2 who remarked upon the contempt of the detainees towards both the Guardia Civil and the current state of alarm. Their attitude and, according to the judge, their likelihood to reoffend and ignore the rules of lockdown, led the authorities to order pre-trial detention and so, they will remain in custody for now.

seconds using soap and warm water. That allows time for dirt to detach; warm water heats the soap and expands its cleaning action. Disinfecting is the first choice for surfaces such as worktops, door handles etc. Agents like bleach, alcohol and household cleaners kill bacteria and viruses. When disinfecting a counter, spray it, then let the agent sit for at least a minute and wipe away. My supermarket has sold out of cleaning spray, what can I use instead? You can make your own disinfecting spray. In an old spray bottle, mix a litre of water with four teaspoons of bleach and shake to mix. You can either use the spray bottle itself, or use the solution to moisten paper towels and keep them in a Ziploc bag ready for use. Straight rubbing alcohol is also an excellent disinfectant.

Daily clean routine Everyone’s home is different and everyone’s cleaning routine will be just as different. But there are some surfaces that it is recommended to disinfect regularly. These include: • Doorknobs • Table surfaces • Hard dining chairs (seat, back, and arms) • Kitchen counters • Bathroom counters • Sinks and taps • Toilets (seat and handle/flush button) • Light switches • TV remote controls • Game controllers

Tabarca swim cancelled The popular open water swimming race between Tabarca and Santa Pola has been cancelled. The race usually takes place in July but already organisers have revealed that it will not go ahead as planned. This year was supposed to be the 25th anniversary event, but organisers announced on Monday that the race will now be held in July 2021 instead. President of the organizing club Javier Quesada said that "an event of this magnitude needs many months of preparation and nobody gives us guarantees that it can be carried out on the stipulated date, especially since it will be a massive gathering of more than 5,000 people.” To defer a place, swimmers do not need to take any action as this will automatically happen if organisers don’t hear from them. To cancel, swimmers will then not have a place in the 2021 race as available slots will be filled from the 2020 waiting list.

Reach Out forced to close its doors on the homeless Torrevieja’s homeless people have been relying on the facilities at Reach Out for almost a decade. The drop in centre not only provides vital nourishment in the form of two hot meals per day, but also allows the men and women to shower, clean their clothes and avail of other essential services and basic medical care. This week, the charity has had to take the devastating decision to close its doors on those most in need. Having been left out in the cold by local government, the board was left with no choice. Charity President David Young told the Costa Blanca People, “For the first time in nine years, Reach Out Extiende La Mano has come to decision we never wanted to. Unfortunately due to the current crisis we have postponed our support to the Homeless Community

here in Torrevieja, from 27 March 2020.” An emotional David continued, “We have NEVER in the past closed our doors to Homeless clients even in the worst weather conditions, storms, hurricanes, snow, rain and hail we remained a place of refuge for our friends.” “This is a different time we find ourselves in,” he explained, “and due to our lack of income, both of our charity shops being closed and no revenue being generated, we had no option but to postpone our operation temporarily. All those donations made online are appreciated and will be used for the purpose they have been donated for. We have thankfully negotiated a reduction in our premises rent for April, but utilities will still require payment. With NO support from Government forthcoming, the reduction in support

will likewise reduce our liabilities.” The charity had asked for masks to be provided by the town hall but none were forthcoming. David thanked the volunteers for their dedication, saying “Our volunteers are wonderful people and we must ensure their safety, they have all stood by us and were willing to carry on in this crisis. I must commend them for their loyalty and strength at this time. They will be back.” Supporters of the Charity can still make donations through the bank details are on the home page of the website www.reachouttorrevieja.eu and all donations are gratefully received and will be used to help Reach Out meet its Mission Statement : “To provide help and welfare assistance to the homeless and needy community through voluntary and charitable means”

The lowdown on Coronavirus the lockdown strikes at the top We all know the basic rules of the lockdown, however there is still a lot of confusion out there about what you can and can’t do. So here we are going to try and clarify the restrictions. You can go out to food shop, to the chemist, for medical appoints or to work if you fall into an essential profession. However, this does not mean you can pop to the shops every day and pick up a couple of things so that you can ‘get out of the house’ or stretch your legs. Shop once a week or for the fortnight if you can. With the disease currently spreading rapidly across the Alicante province, the less you go out and the less people you come into contact with the better your chances of not catching Coronavirus. All trips are solo activities. You cannot take your partner, friend or other family members with you, even if you are isolating with them. The rule is one person per car, full stop. The only time you can have a passenger is if that person is elderly, a child or disabled and you are taking them to a medical appointment. If they need shopping get a list, do the shopping and take it

back. If you’re a single parent, isolating alone, you can take your child with you to food shop or medical appointments. This restriction also applies to going food shopping on foot – it’s a solo activity. There should be no reason that two people are walking down the street together or trying to food shop together. You should always be at least a metre from anyone outside of your own home, even if you are isolating together. The same goes for walking the dog, its one owner per dog. So you and your partner cannot both take the dog for a walk to escape from the house. Your pet should be walked close to your property and only until it has

done its business then you should return straight home. Walking the dog for hours is not allowed. Neither is putting the pooch in the car and driving to your favourite isolated spot. You cannot lie by your communal pool or use the communal gardens to exercise. The lockdown restrictions require you to stay in your own home and use your own personal outdoor space – public or communal spaces are out of bounds. These rules are in place to help keep you safe and to protect everyone in the community, please follow them completely. Remember, stay in to stay safe.

The British Prime Minister, Boris Johnson, aged 55, has tested positive for coronavirus after experiencing mild symptoms – a temperature and persistent cough - over the previous 24hours. He did so, on the advice of England’s Chief Medical officer and is the first major world leader known to have contracted the disease. As per the UK guidelines he will now self-isolate at No 10 Downing Street but will ‘continue to lead the government’s response to coronavirus’. Boris Johnson said: But be in no doubt that I can continue, thanks to the wizardry of modern technology, to communicate with all my top team, to lead the national fight back against coronavirus.” This came hot on the heels of the announcement that the Prince of Wales had tested positive for Coronavirus. Prince Charles, aged 71, is said to be displaying mild symptoms of the virus “but otherwise remains in good health”. A spokesperson also added that the Duchess of Cornwall, 72, was also tested and does not have the virus and both are currently self-isolating at Balmoral.

Charles last saw his mother, the Queen, on March 12th and was believed to have been in good health when they met. The palace added that the Duke of Edinburgh was not present at that meeting, and that the Queen was now "following all the appropriate advice with regard to her welfare". The third high profile case was Health Secretary Matt Hancock, who was the second blow to the UK government team’s handling of the crisis after Boris Johnson announced his infection. The Health Secretary is overseeing the NHS’s efforts to cope with the epidemic as it struggles with a lack of ventilators, protective equipment and testing. He tweetded: “Following medical advice, I was advised to test for coronavirus. I’ve tested positive. “Thankfully my symptoms are mild and I’m working from home & self-isolating. Vital we follow the advice to protect our NHS & save lives.” The diagnosis will raise fears about how far into the heart of government infections have spread, with concern over the chief medical officer and chief scientific adviser.

In Spain Two more relatives of Spanish Prime Minister Pedro Sanchez have tested positive for coronavirus. The PSOE leader’s mother and father-inlaw were admitted to the Puerta de Hierro University Hospital in Majadahonda in Madrid after confirming their diagnoses. Both are considered to be at risk due to their ages. “Many families in this country are experiencing a similar situation,” Sanchez told OkDiario, “My family is neither more nor less important than the rest of the families in this country.” It comes after Sanchez’s wife Begoña Gomez also contracted coronavirus, leading Sanchez to place himself under quarantine. Princess Maria Teresa, of the Bourbon-Parma Royal Fmaily in Span has become the first royal family member to die from coronavirus. She passed away aged86 after testing positive for COVID-19. She was a member of the House of Bourbon-Parma which is a cadet branch of the Spanish royal family, descended from the French Capetian dynasty.

Looking out for our elderly neighbours The outbreak of COVID-19 will pose additional challenges for older people who may already be vulnerable and particularly those who struggle with health difficulties, loneliness, and other issues. To the friends and family of older people who may have concerns, we are encouraging them to continue to support older people in the community as they have always done, while ensuring they are taking the same protective measures. While we are on lockdown, we can help our elderly and vulnerable neighbours by: • Checking in on them: Phone or whatsapp them to let them know you are there if they need you. Call them for a chat and make sure they know that they can call you too. Make sure they have your number for an emergency, or if they are feeling lonely or isolated. Maintaining social distancing and hygiene protocols so as not to put them at risk, you can put a note on their gate or under their door to let them know how to communicate with you in times of need. • Help with essential tasks: If you have to go to the supermarket or pharmacy for yourself, why not ask an elderly neighbour if they need anything while you are there. If they are not able to walk their dog, or are afraid to put themselves at risk by going out, you could offer to walk their dog for them. Make an arrangement (while ensuring to keep yourself safe in doing so) to bring their rubbish to the bin for them.

• Make sure they are aware: Ask them to check their medications and ensure they have sufficient dosage for the next two weeks. Make sure they know the symptoms of Covid-19 so that they know what to look out for. Make sure they are in contact with their family and that you have the contact details of their next of kin, just in case you need to inform them that their loved one has fallen ill. The most important thing we can all do for our elderly and vulnerable neighbours is to check in with them regularly throughout this State of Alarm, and beyond. Local elderly support charity Age Concern Costa Blanca Sur is currently keeping in touch with its beneficiaries through its Keep in Touch scheme. We spoke to charity President Maureen Payne this week who told us, “Age Concern day centre in La Siesta is closed until the lockdown ends, so we are not able to loan out mobility equipment at the moment. All those who already have equipment can only return it when we reopen, you will not be charged any extra. “All our volunteers are doing what they can whilst staying safe themselves, we continue to shop for those who need it. I would urge all of us to check on our neighbours, especially the elderly, make sure they have everything they need.” Maureen concluded, “Our centre phone 966786887 is redirected to me, and I will help if I can.”

Help us look after our communities – A message from Rojales town hall, serving Rojales and Quesada “During this current difficult situation in which we find ourselves with all resources being concentrated on the treatment and elimination of the virus, we urge you as presidents of communities, organisations or representatives of groups to keep an eye on those especially who live alone or

are elderly who you may not have seen for while to ensure they are well. The urbanisations are wide spread and it is impossible to have eyes everywhere. Local Police and public service employees are working to ensure all facilities are available to those in need. In

the Municipal Centre of Ciudad Quesada, we are working although behind closed doors. You may contact us on: Tel. 96 572 57 22 e-mail: cmcquesada@rojales.es Open Monday to Friday . 8:30 a.m. 2:30 p.m.”

Can you get Coronavirus twice? Concerns that people could get the coronavirus, recover, and then become re-infected have grown since it was reported that patients in China who had two negative tests and were discharged from a hospital subsequently had to be readmitted because they tested positive later. According to current protocols, patients who test positive for the coronavirus and are hospitalised must have two negative tests obtained 24 hours apart prior to discharge. In the case of the Chinese patients, the patients had no symptoms and were showing signs of improvement. Another patient, from Japan, reportedly also developed symptoms and tested positive for COVID-19 a second time, after being given the all-clear.

It’s understandable that people are worried about getting a serious disease twice and requiring repeat hospitalisations and/or quarantine. While experts still don’t know a lot about COVID-19, they do have deeper knowledge of similar viral diseases. So, in general, patients make antibodies to viruses and become immune to a repeat infection from the same virus. Therefore, until an antibody test becomes available, we won’t know whether the patients reported from China and Japan had antibodies against the virus—and therefore were protected from reinfection—or whether they had a false-positive test. Current testing for the coronavirus is based on polymerase chain reaction (PCR) amplification, which measures the

number of copies of RNA (ribonucleic acid, a nucleic acid present in all living cells) the virus produces. The test can just confirm that viral RNA is present in large amounts, but this RNA can be a small piece of the viral RNA and thus unable to cause infection. The test would thus be ‘false positive,’ especially if the virus copy numbers are less than a certain threshold. Collecting samples from multiple sites on the body, such as the nose, throat, stools, and blood, will increase the chance of detecting the virus RNA. But this is only performed for research purposes. The current belief by medical experts is that once you have the COVID-19 infection, you shouldn’t get it again.

Website for coronavirus appointments Residents who are experiencing a persistent cough, shortness of breath, sore throat and a fever can now request a medical appointment to be checked and treated (if needed) for coronavirus at: coronavirusregistro.san.gva.es/sipcovid 19 People can register if in the last 14 days they have experienced at least one of the key symptoms of coronavirus. On

the Health Department website, you must enter the details requested, such as: your SIP number and date of birth and contact telephone number. After registering these details a professional will contact the patient. If you do not have a SIP card or there is any problem with the request for a telephone appointment through this website, the Ministry advises that you call the phone number 900 300 555.

Why is the Spanish death rate so high? Spain’s death toll continues to rise seeing new daily highs over the weekend and the total fatalities (at time of writing) of more than 6,800 people. Fresh cases of coronavirus-related infections did drop, from a record daily total on Thursday of 8,578 to 7,871 on Friday. But both numbers are far worse than a week ago, when new cases stood at 2,833. Italy and Spain, account for more than half of the world’s deaths Madrid announced a rise in its 24-hour toll for a third consecutive day on Sunday, with 838 fatalities, while Italy recorded 756. Another unnerving fact is that compared with Italy, where eight percent of health workers are affected, in Spain by Friday that tally stood at 16.5 percent. Spain saw what happened in Iran and Italy – and yet it has still overtaken China’s death toll in one of the darkest moments in recent Spanish history. Spain is now the hotspot of the global pandemic The number of dead per capita is already three times that of Iran, and 40 times higher than China. But what has caused such a rapid spread of coronavirus in Spain? Large gatherings On 19th February, 2,500 Valencia soccer fans mixed with 40,000 Atalanta supporters for a Champions League game in Bergamo which Giorgio Gori, mayor of the Italian city, has described as “the bomb” which exploded the virus in Lombardy. In Spain, Valencia players, fans and sports journalists were among the first to fall ill. On 8th March, just a week before the country was closed down, sports events,

political party conferences and massive demonstrations to mark International Women’s Day all took place involving hundreds of thousands of people. Three days later, about 3,000 Atlético de Madrid fans flew together for another Champions League match in Liverpool. Depleted health care The most high-profile reason touted by the media in Spain is the public health service's uneven and reportedly depleted resources for tackling this, or indeed any, kind of virus-related pandemic. The Socialist-led government of Pedro Sánchez reacted late and clumsily. The country lacked essential equipment. Ventilators, protective clothing for doctors and coronavirus tests are still only just being sourced. The virus has laid bare, too, deep faults in the Spanish care system. Private old people’s homes must turn a profit while charging people prices they can afford and as a result, these were understaffed, unprepared and quickly overwhelmed, with death rates of up to 20percent. The army was sent in, and found some people lying dead in their beds. Fluid population Underlying reasons for the coronavirus spread before the state of alert could have been the low level of perception among the population at large that coronavirus represented a risk. Until relatively recently, there wasn't enough information on what coronavirus was, most people believed it was `just a flu’ and that it was only the elderly or ill that were at risk. Also there's a huge density of people in cities living in blocks of flats in cities'

outlying suburbs. Add in a lot of communal spaces, a very affectionate kind of social behaviour compared to some countries - we always shake hands, or hug, or kiss each other, when we meet, for example. Then of course there was the exodus from the cities to second homes on the coast. The closing of the schools in Madrid and Barcelona, without a road cordon was foolhardy; as holiday mentality kicked in and hundreds headed to the bars and parks to make the most of it. Pedro Sanchez then closed the bars and restaurants and gave 24 hours notice of a lockdown, giving people plenty of time to head to the coast – and with some unknowingly bringing the virus with them. Hope Despite the awful current statistics the lockdown that began on 14th March has been efficiently enforced with police fines and peer pressure. As a result, Spain’s ghastly curve of fatalities should begin to flatten soon and ministers say measures should start being relaxed when the month-long quarantine ends on 12 April. If not then a further two weeks will be added. Even when the lockdown measures are relaxed, no one expects a return to normality. When this is over, Spain will be extremely fragile. When the financial crisis hit in 2008, unemployment soared to 27 percent, public debt leapt upwards and the nosedive into recession was among the worst in Europe and it is feared much the same will happen this year.

SHOULD YOU SELL A HOME RIGHT NOW? Rebecca Serwotka Rebecca Serwotka - Your favourite local property expert, of Inmobiliaria Real Estate Agents in Ciudad Quesada & published author of “Moving Forward - 25 Essential Rules For Buying & Selling Real Estate Without Going Crazy.” Request your FREE copy today!Featured on Best Buy Spain - Property TV.

I asked you last week if now is a good time to buy, well this week, I’m asking you if you should sell your home right now? Well again, the simple answer to that is, yes! I’m sure you haven’t arrived at the decision lightly, so sticking with your plans to sell your property, is most definitely the way to go. This virus is just putting everything on hold right now, but it won’t be here forever! Imagine how many people will be tired of being confined within their four walls, and reflecting over dreams they’ve had, that haven’t yet been fulfilled. They’ll be realizing how important it is to, “live for today!” And as soon as flights are operating again, and the lockdown is over, those buyers will be heading to our shores. Whilst you’re in isolation, this is the ideal time to start the process of preparing your home for sale. You can start with these 4 things: 1. CLEAN; all light fixtures and replace burnt out bulbs. Consider changing to brighter bulbs if the fixture is rated for higher wattage than your current bulbs. Dead bugs and cobwebs detract from the appeal of the home and often indicate neglect to buyers.

2. REARRANGE FURNITURE; to create more space. You may need to remove furniture from a room in order to open it up, but consider simply moving things around in creative ways. 3. CUT THE CLUTTER; remove magnets, pictures, and souvenirs from the refrigerator. Use the general two-thirds rule: remove 2/3 of everything on any flat surface in your home. Since you are already planning to move, this is a great time to get your donations ready, and get rid of things you don’t need or want, as soon as the lockdown has been lifted. 4. MAKE IT EASY TO GET INTO THE HOME; by ensuring that the lock functions freely, hinges swing smoothly and it doesn’t sound like entering a haunted house because of squeaky hardware. Lubricate the hinges and use spray in the lock. By using your isolation time effectively, you’ll be ahead of the game, and as soon as we are set “free” again, you’ll be ready to list your home on the market quicker than anybody else! This virus will pass, but in the meantime, we need to keep the local economy moving. Support your local business! Torrevieja town hall has to feed 600 people per day In addition to over two hundred families being fed by Alimentos Solidarios, there are another hundred availing of the home care service and up to three hundred more who are using food vouchers issued by the town hall. The number of requests for help to the social services department continues to grow on a daily basis. Not only that, but calls are flooding in from the relatives of elderly residents who live outside of the area (mostly Madrid) and are not able to travel here to help their parents or

grandparents. Currently, Proteccion Civil have been drafted in, as well as a number of local taxi drivers, to distribute food among the town’s poor and elderly. The town hall is working on a plan for the town’s homeless people with proposals to house those in need at a local school gymnasium but the project needs the authorisation of the Generalitat Valenciana for distancing and security measures to be approved.

Toldos Guardamar steps up Many local companies have found themselves in a difficult situation these last few weeks, without the option to work or without the clients or suppliers to carry on through the state of alarm. This week, local awning maker Toldos Guardamar contacted all of its clients to let them know what they are doing during lockdown and it makes for heartwarming reading. They said, “At Toldos Guardamar we want to take care of everyone. That is why in our sewing department, 200 masks are already being made every day for our workers, their family, our clients, friends and everyone who needs it.” Not only that, but the company is putting its resources at the disposal of the public across the board. The email explains, “In our IT department, Jordi will be available to you on the phone (649

533 057) to try to help you with any questions about the operation of your mobile phone, applications, connections or the operation of your computer. From our Administration and Human Resources departments, Alejandro and Sandra will be able to guide you with questions about procedures that you need to do electronically, through the numbers: 638 321 150 and 649 504 158.

Toldos Guardamar said, “We want you to know that we are at your entire disposal to help you with any need you may have. If you feel lonely, worried or sad, know that you can count on your Toldos Guardamar family. Do not hesitate to call us at 966 726 258. We are not doctors or psychologists but we will listen to you and try to make you feel happier and accompanied.”

GBP

GBP / EUR UPDATE

After a challenging time the week before losing two and a quarter cents against the euro and UK equities falling 12%, sterling had a rough start to this week. Even last Friday’s small rebound following the announcement that the government would pay 80% of PAYE workers’ wages, the pound struggled to make any headway. The manufacturing PMI beat forecast, coming in at 48, but services was well below the hoped-for 45, coming in at 35.7, making the composite reading a record low of 37.1. Inflation came in roughly as forecast but in the current climate, the figures were dismissed as being irrelevant. By midweek, sterling was experiencing some volatility and it was a challenge to pinpoint the reason, other than the fact that the thin market was taking its toll. The challenge for the point is that the spectre of Brexit may have been pushed into the background, but it still looms in the distance and with both Brexit negotiators now having been diagnosed with the coronavirus, a no-deal scenario after a historically tough year could be on the cards. This leaves the pound little room for manoeuvre, and much relies on the effectiveness of measures to curb the spread of the virus and get the economy up and running as soon as possible.

EUR The euro had a similarly tough week with similarly dire PMI readings. Manufacturing came in at 44.8 and services at 28.4, giving a record low composite reading of 31.4. The euro did make some gains during the week against the struggling pound and the US dollar, which was pushed lower by the delays to the confirmation of the expected USD 2trillion stimulus package. In Frankfurt, the European Central Bank is considering what else it can do to deliver the Euroland-wide stimulus that governments are unwilling to provide. Because collective government financing is not an option (Germany, the Netherlands and others will not commit to shared borrowings) the ECB is looking at Outright Monetary Transactions, a tool constructed during the European debt crisis in 2012. It differs from quantitative easing in that it is unlimited and can be targeted at the countries most in need of support. The challenge for the ECB and the euro is that the central currency operates in different countries with different governments and approaches to the virus. OMT may help to address this issue, but as with all currencies, a flattening of the curve when it comes to cases of covid-19 may have more impact than anything the ECB or successive governments can deliver.

A roundup of the N332's most popular stories this week

New employment law Following the new law which came into effect on 27th March we clarify the situation regarding questions on objective dismissals: 1) What happens regarding dismissals carried out before last night?

posted they have been dismissed (not ERTE) in the last two weeks? They can start legal actions against the employer if: - The company has not fulfilled the

The decree is effective since last night, but the consequences of the previous dismissals will be interpreted using this new regulation. What this new decree is doing is telling judges how they should interpret objective dismissal in the future. Therefore, if an employee takes their case to a tribunal. When a Judge study the case next year they will use yesterday's decree to decide if the dismissal was or not legal. New Employment Law brought in on 27th March Objective dismissal means that: - The company must prove it has economic reasons, proving losing money for a period of time (long period, it means, more than a week/month) - Company has to compensate employees with 20 days salary per year worked - Company has to pay the money at the moment of the dismissal, not later. If the redundancy is not paid at the same moment, the dismissal is not valid. 2) What about employees that have

legal obligation (20 days redundancy per year worked and immediate payment) - If the company is using economic reason to dismiss the employees, they must have used ERTE. So, they can claim, and they have to be careful about time limitation. 3) So dismissals, companies can now only do ERTE, no other dismissals for economic reasons and only if their application accepted? ERTE must be used to suspend contracts because of economic reasons. Therefore, you cannot terminate contract using objective dismissal for economic reason

How many people can travel in a car? Only individual journeys are allowed, unless you are accompanying disabled person, minors, elderly or other justified reason. In these cases, the order TMA/278/2020 establishes that, in vehicles with up to 9 seats, including the driver, in those in which more than 1 person must take part in said journey, it will be respected only when there is one person per row of seats maximum, maintaining the furthest distance as possible between all persons.

journeys may only be made under certain circumstances: to go to any health centre, hospital or any other sanitary establishment, to the workplace, to work; return to home residence; assistance of caring to elderly or minors, disabled persons or vulnerable persons; or for other reasons out of one´s control, a situation of necessity or those of a similar nature.

At all times, remember that

Walking of DOGS during the Alarm State: - Short walks, ONLY to cover the physiological needs. (There is NO minimum distance, just common sense.) - Without contact with other animals or people - Take a bottle of water with detergent to clean the urine and bags for the stool - Prioritize off-peak hours Feeding Animals; - Feeding cat colonies. Prioritize off-peak hours and try to space it out for as

many days as possible. - Feeding and seeing to animals in farms and animal shelters is allowed

4) If people not able to afford to reopen their business, what will happen re the ERTEs?. Each case will be different, of course. The Government says that if you don’t keep the employees during 6 months, you will lose benefits. But if the business closes, benefits don't matter. The Law tries to cover everybody, not individual situations. If a company continues working and making money you must keep employees for 6 months, otherwise you will be punished. But if a company must be closed, it doesn´t really matter if you lose benefits. Each case needs studying individually and professional advice to decide the best course of action. Summary: 1) Employers must be careful before taking decisions. They have to study their business, employees, incomes, and then decide the best option. A wrong decision could cost a lot of money. 2) Employees must check if the dismissal is or not legal, and claim within 20 days. Military Naval Vessels brought in to help

The Commander in Chief of the Armed Forces has just announced that from Sunday 29 March 5 naval vessels will be 24h available in the fight against the COVID 19.

The military vessels will be sent to the most affected areas of the country and all military personnel will help in collaboration with the other police forces and medical staff.

Let´s cheer up WARNING – our Police Scam SMS Forces Over the last days, several police officers have passed away due to the virus. They are undergoing difficult times trying to keep all of us safe. We would like to ask you to take part in this initiative; draw something related to the Guardia Civil, and please include any supporting message. Don´t forget to add your name to the bottom, take a photo of your work and send it to us by email or through the Facebook page of the N332 or the Costa Blanca People

message regarding ERTE

SEPE (State Public Employment) has informed us that if you receive an SMS informing you of the approval of an ERTE for your business and requesting your bank information to process the grant, please do not respond. This is a scam. Your company will inform us (SEPE) directly of any employees affected by an ERTE.

An "A400M" military plane category from the Spanish Air Force headed to China on Saturday. It took the military plane 33 hours with no stops with the only aim of bringing back to Spain medical supply and enough COVID 19 tests for the population. We should all be very proud of our Armed Forces

Decathlon snorkels used to treat Coronavirus

The N332 will print all of your pictures and will fill the Police Station with your messages of support and drawings.

With the most severe cases of coronavirus needing medical respirators there is huge strain on the supply and demand of this piece of equipment. Therefore, medics are looking for alternatives to help patients ease their breathing difficulties. A group of ICU professionals from the HM Montepríncipe Hospital, with Dr. Alberto Rubio at the helm, is using a prototype based on diving goggles that would help patients admitted to the ICU who are unable to breathe on their own.

Thank you very much for participating in this campaign

Decathlon, the manufacturer of these diving goggles, has already announced that it is blocking commercial sales of this item in order to allocate them entirely to the fight against the coronavirus

No matter what age you are we would love you all to join in with this initiative. Email your drawings n332facebook@hotmail.com

Zoo cams

Making working from home work

When it seems like everywhere we look there is bad news, unsettling developments, fear and anxiety, it can do us the world of good to distract our brains with something pleasant. And what’s more pleasant to focus on than cute animals, oblivious to the coronavirus pandemic and its impact on the world. We know a trip to the zoo or safari park is off the cards for the moment, but we’re all learning about the wonders of technology under lockdown and luckily, zoos from around the world are livestreaming their animals while they are closed. Smithsonian’s National Zoo Giant Panda Cam www.nationalzoo.si.edu/webc ams/panda-cam While you are watching pandas chomp on bamboo, play in trees and tumble in the grass, specially trained volunteers with Friends of the National Zoo are hard at work using these cameras to collect behavioral data on the giant pandas. Please note that while the cameras stream live 24 hours a day, FONZ volunteer operators will only be following the pandas during regular business hours. Be sure to toggle back and forth between Panda Cam 1 and Panda Cam 2 using the tabs at the

If you're lucky enough to have kept your job and are working from home during the State of Alarm in Spain, you might need to change some of your habits and routines to make working from home a success. All of us ‘teletrabajadores’ (remote or home workers) will face unique challenges, not only because we have different personalities, home environments and tendencies, but also due to our various lifestyles and the type of work we do. Still, many of the core issues we face as remote employees are the same no matter what industry we work in be it a newspaper, law office, travel agent, or private school. Everyone who works from home has to figure out when to work, where to work, and how to create boundaries between work and personal life. Here are some tips to help make that happen... Maintain Regular Hours Set a work timetable, and stick to it...most of the time. Having clear guidelines for when to work and when to call it a day helps many remote workers maintain work-life balance. You might have to be online the same time as colleagues, clients

top of the video player to get the full Panda Cam experience. The Smithsonian’s National Zoo in Washington, D.C., also has a variety of other animal cameras: You can watch naked mole rats, lions, elephants, and giant pandas in their enclosures. Cincinnati Zoo Home Safaris www.cincinnatizoo.org/homesafari-resources/ Cincinnati zoo is already home to a famous hippo (apparently she has her own Facebook show, which you can also watch during lockdown). The zoo will now be introducing its other residents via its Home Safaris on Facebook live. Each day the zoo will feature a new animal and you can rewatch the best clips on the zoo website. Edinburgh Zoo www.edinburghzoo.org.uk/we bcams Edinburgh Zoo has a variety of webcams set up for virtual visitors to watch Yang Guang the panda, as well as penguins, tigers and koalas. Chester Zoo www.chesterzoo.org Chester Zoo has more than 50 activities you can access online on all things animals, science and conservation.

And the attraction, which has just released the first images of its rare twin baby lemurs born to parents Fiona and Dog, has more fun planned later this week. San Diego Zoo www.zoo.sandiegozoo.org/ Koalas, as you know, haven’t been having a fantastic time of it recently with much of their natural habitat disappearing in the Australian bush fires. But the little guys at the San Diego Zoo appear to be pretty chilled and well looked after. You can see their antics on the zoo’s koala cam and while you’re there, you can click over to the polar bear enclosure and see the big beautiful beasts and what they’re up to (napping, usually). Other favourites Penguins – Chicago’s Shedd Aqarium has some pretty impressive underwater penguin cams. You can also livestream penguins at the St Louis Zoo. Meerkats – Miami Zoo is the place to go for meerkat cams. Polar bear cubs - Ouwehand Zoo in Rhenen, the Netherlands is home to two polar bear cubs. You can watch footage of their highlights on the zoo’s home page and this week, they’ll be streaming a live webcam.

Create a Morning Routine What in your morning (or afternoon, if you’re on a flexible schedule) routine indicates you're about to start work? It might be making a cup of tea. It might be finishing a workout

If you have children who are being homeschooled while you are also working this can bring its own set of challenges so you can decide as a family on what will work best – perhaps working in the morning and home schooling in the evening, especially if your children are younger and need your full supervision or guidance when

It might be getting dressed (wearing your PJs to work is a perk for some, but others feel that getting dressed mentally prepares them for the end of free time and the start of work time). A lunch hour and two 15minute breaks seems to be the standard for full-time employees. If you are in touch with your co workers, communicate with each other about breaks for everyone’s sake.

Costa Blanca Art Community Keeping occupied is possibly the hardest thing to do in the current crisis, so it’s a good time to learn something new. If you’ve always wanted to have a go at drawing and painting you are welcome to join the free Facebook page Costa Blanca Art Community, run by local art teacher and artist, Suzanne Stokes. https://www.facebook.com/groups/ 145955273379781/ Suzanne will be giving advice to anyone who wants it, and putting up some projects and lessons to get beginners started. Suzanne says, “If you would like something to try today – I am including my infamous cowboy. Everyone who comes to my classes has to start with this, and they’ll all be laughing when they see him. But the things to look at are: The head is approximately one seventh of the height of an adult. The cowboy’s head is directly in line with his left leg, and he is twisted slightly to one side, so

one shoulder appears shorter than the other. Look at the negative spaces and get them right. Negative spaces are the shape between his legs and within his bent arm. And then the shading – which is what will make him look solid. Where is the light coming from? Look for three tones – light, medium and

dark, and if you are using pencil on smooth paper you can gently blend the darker tones into the paler ones, and use a rubber to put back the highlights. Anything you draw is going to open up those channels in the brain and you’ll be surprised how quickly you improve

Help needed to rescue UK rainfall records If you have found yourself with extra time on your hands due to the lockdown situation, there are many interesting projects you could get involved with remotely. One such scheme is to help the Rainfall Rescue Project digitise the UK’s 200 year old rainfall records. The majority of the records are in handwritten form and can't easily be used to analyse past periods of flooding and drought. The Rainfall Rescue Project is seeking volunteers to transfer all the data into online spreadsheets. You're not required to rummage through old bound volumes; the Met Office has already scanned the necessary documents - all 65,000 sheets. You simply have to visit a website, read the scribbled rainfall amounts and enter the numbers into a series of boxes. "If you do just a couple of minutes every now and then - that's great," said Prof Ed Hawkins, the researcher behind

the project. "If you want to spend an hour doing 30 or 40 columns - then that'll be amazing. But any amount of time, it will all add up and be a tremendous help." Professor Hawkins said, “We’re asking you to digitise historical rainfall records, so that climate scientists can help water companies plan for dry and wet weather in future. By helping us to digitise these records, we can unlock answers to questions about our weather and changing climate, as well as contribute to new discoveries.” Each of the 65,000 scanned sheets contains the monthly rainfall totals for a particular decade at a particular station. Something like three to five million data points in all. To get involved and help climate scientists understand past rainfall variations go to https://www.zooniverse.org/projects/ed h/rainfall-rescue. You can choose whether to transcribe the measurements from a particular year or information about the locations.

Isolation - Coping Tips It is important to have some order in the home right now especially if you are a couple, or family. Start with instilling some routine into your day. Devote the first part of the day to chores for everyone, and continue schooling for children. There’s plenty online. Shopping will need to be done of course, and do this on rota so that every healthy adult gets a chance to go out (remember to wear a mask and sanitise). There will always be repairs that need doing around the house. See what DIY materials you have and attend to those jobs you’ve been putting off. There’s always something to do in the garden, and now is a good time to spring clean your house – clear out cupboards and disinfect surfaces. In the second part of the day, think about hobbies and enjoyment. If you have any musical instruments in the house why not pick them up again, or learn from scratch. Look on YouTube – there are loads of free tutorials. Or, try the many ‘learn how to sing’ tutorials. You may be surprised to know that everyone can be taught how to sing. Our voice is an instrument. Also look us some karaoke. Make time for fun pursuits for the family – get out your old board games. Relaxing is important. Look on the bookshelf and read a book or magazine while sitting in your garden, or on your balcony or solarium. Try not to watch too much TV during the day, but when you do sit down, dig out your old comedy DVDs, and watch some of your favourite uplifting films. Remember to eat well - the shops are fully stocked, so take this time to cook proper meals and sit down together and eat (no phones or Ipads). Avoid too much stress by only reading the newspapers online to keep updated, but don’t stay on it all day – cut the worry - you don’t want to depress yourself any more right now. Newspapers and news channels can sensationalise things. Keep cheerful. And remember all things must pass. WRITE TO SARA IN CONFIDENCE. A PSEUDONYM WILL BE USED IF YOU WISH. SARA READS ALL LETTERS AND CAN GIVE A PERSONAL REPLY. EMAIL YOUR QUESTION TO SARA@COSTABLANCAPEOPLE.COM OR SARA IS AVAILABLE FOR PRIVATE CONSULTATIONS, TELEPHONE 650 054 467.

Sunday 5th April – ITV2, 7.00 pm When James Bond's (Daniel Craig's) latest assignment goes gravely wrong and Agents around the world are exposed, MI6 is attacked, forcing (M Dame Judi Dench) to relocate the agency. These events cause her authority and position to be challenged by Gareth Mallory (Ralph Fiennes), the new Chairman of the Intelligence and Security Committee. With MI6 now compromised from both inside and out, M is left with one ally she can trust: Bond. 007 takes to the shadows, aided only by field agent, Miss Eve Moneypenny (Naomie Harris), following a trail to the mysterious Tiago Rodriguez, a.k.a. Raoul Silva (Javier Bardem), whose lethal and hidden motives have yet to reveal themselves.

Saturday 4th April – BBC One, 10.00 pm Army Captain Colter Stevens finds himself working on a special program where his consciousness can be inserted into another human being. The only catch is can only be there for 8 minutes at any given time. That morning, a bomb exploded on a commuter train just outside Chicago. He occupies the body of teacher going to work on that train and is confused as to what he is doing or why he is there as his last memory is of flying his helicopter on a combat mission in Afghanistan. Those in charge of the program explain to him that there is a bomb on the train, and that he must locate it. More importantly, he must identify the bomber as another bombing is expected later that day. He is also told however that he cannot change the past and can only gather information. As he develops a liking for his traveling companion Christina, he sets out to test that theory.

OUR WORLD IS HEALING All across the world, people are finding themselves in uncertainly, fearing what the pandemic that is spreading so fast will mean for mankind. Yet while we are being forced to slow down, Mother Nature is healing. During this time, it's so important to listen and abide by the guidelines set by the government in order to contain it. Many of us appear to have much more time on our hands so it's all about using the time wisely and finding our inner creativity. Personally, I am self employed and work from home so I have had to cancel my appointments until further notice. But

what I am finding is, I have time at last to write more self help articles, and to record meditation video's to help people stay as positive as they can. It may be difficult not going out and socialising but we can all keep in touch remotely. I know it's not the same as having a hug from a loved one, but it's the next best thing in this climate. It's also best not to believe everything you read as there is so much conflicting information out there and this in itself can wear us down. I have been receiving sage advice from spirit, and they reiterate how meditation is the answer right now - as it brings love

and harmony into your life - allowing you to slow down your mind. Learn how to listen and trust your heart and gut feeling rather than worrying and living in your head. Here is a meditation I wanted to share with you in order to help bring balance, order, and more than anything, healing to our world which is what is needed more than anything right now. Concentrate on your breath work slowing it down. As you take a breath in, hold for 3, then release. Do this a few times until all you are breathing in, is new and positive energy. Now think of your favourite place, be it a beach, forest, the countryside, or a

garden. See yourself sitting in quiet contemplation and allowing your body to relax, and your mind to be still. Visualise yourself in a pink bubble of light in the shape of a pink heart, and see it surrounding you, allowing the protection and divine love it imparts. Now see a smaller heart over your heart centre - it vibrates with love and harmony - send this energy out to the world - seeing every Country being wrapped in pink light. Feeling its loving vibration. Spheres of coloured lights join in now - green for healing, yellow for upliftment, purple for spirituality, and white for purity and love of the divine. The violet flame of

transformation descends right across the earth plane as it transmutes all negativity into positivity. A beautiful lotus flower with 4 petals comes into view now, in the deepest red for grounding, safety and earth energy. Know that all is well as you do this, and feel a part of this healing process. Mr Motivator returning to TV Mr Motivator has said he does not feel threatened by the success of Joe Wicks, as the pioneering fitness star prepares to return to the nation’s television screens on a new BBC One programme designed to keep the nation healthy during the coronavirus pandemic. The presenter, best known for his appearances on GMTV in the 1990s, and his brightly coloured Lycra outfits, said he was confident that the public appetite for his broadcasts had not diminished: “Motivator – you mention my name, and everybody knows Motivator. Walk down the road right now – well, not right now – and they know Motivator.” Motivator, real name Derrick Evans, praised Wicks’ success in reaching millions of viewers every day with his livestreamed YouTube workouts for schoolchildren.

“It’s his time now, he’s great, he’s very different to me. I’m still doing what I do and I’m 67. Joe is coming from the children to the family; I’m going from the older people to the family. I use music all the time; Joe doesn’t use music. So we’re very different.” In recent years Motivator has increasingly focussed on mental health issues and a more holistic approach to wellness, rather than the exaggerated personality known to viewers in the past. “I’m not prepared to just come on and jump around, that was just part of what I’m about. Television was interested in the entertainment side of me, not what was deep inside of me ... Physical fitness is only part of the pillars that hold up our wellbeing. Are you in love? Are you out of love? How are you going to cope with everything that life throws at you? It’s a

bit deep but that’s where I’ve always been.” Motivator will be appearing to offer his tips on the newly commissioned HealthCheck UK Live, airing on weekdays at 10am on BBC One. The show was launched to directly address the concerns of viewers who are in selfisolation, offering tips, especially to older viewers, on how to keep healthy and happy. It will be hosted by Michelle Ackerley and Dr Xand van Tulleken, along with Angela Rippon, who is currently self-isolating. In addition Motivator is launching a short daily livestreamed workout at midday every day, titled the Daily Dozen, on his Twitter and forthcoming YouTube channel.

Netflix offers £3m for new ‘Little Britain’ Netflix has reportedly offered Matt Lucas and David Walliams £3m for a Little Britain reboot. Rumours of a revival of the hit BBC sketch show have circulated since 2019, when the pair returned for a one-off radio episode titled Little Brexit. Now Netflix has allegedly stepped in with a lucrative offer for more episodes. “Netflix has set up phone meetings next week with David and Matt,” a source said. “The offer they are making is more than double the BBC could make. “It’d be a package of well over a million each,” the source continued. “David and Matt don’t need the cash but bosses at Netflix know they are a more viable option for the brand.” Walliams hinted in January that a revival was in the works, teasing: “‘I would say there will definitely be some more

Little Britain coming. I can’t say when exactly but at the right time and place.” In 2017, Lucas said that a Little Britain reboot would have to be radically different as it would “upset a lot of people” if it came back exactly the same. “There was a character who was a rubbish transvestite who said ‘I’m a lady’,” he recalled. “She was fun at the time but I think we look differently at the transgender community now and it would be very hard to do that. “It would be very hard to play characters of other races now and even [weight-loss guru] Marjorie. People talk about that now in terms of fat shaming. We would definitely approach it very differently.” Lucas was this month announced as the replacement for Sandi Toksvig on Channel 4’s Great British Bake Off.

Healthy bedtime habits There are plenty of good-for-you habits you can try to achieve daily, from mastering new recipes to learning as many stress-management skills as possible. Now is the perfect time for selfimprovement and looking for new ways to feel even better. Here’s a super-easy way to score even more health perks from the habits you already have on lockdown. Maintaining healthy habits is a good idea at any time of the day, but certain ones can give you more bang for your buck when done before bed. This is because they help to enhance the restorative rituals your body checks off while you sleep. Hone in on these six healthy habits during your bedtime routine and give your health a boost without even trying. Wash your face The best thing you can do for your skin is remove your makeup and wash your face before you hit the sheets. Cleansing every night is so important because as we sleep, our skin takes advantage of this time to naturally rejuvenate and heal itself. Sleeping with your makeup on leaves impurities on your skin that disrupt this process, leading to bacterial build-up, breakouts, and premature signs of aging. That’s not to say your skin can’t benefit from a morning cleanse too, but the night-time cleanse is where you score the most benefits. In the morning, your face is technically clean - well, depending

on the state of your pillowcase - so if you want to freshen up, make sure it’s with a gentle cleanser that doesn’t irritate your skin. You don’t want to damage the protective outer layer of skin cells and natural oils. Apply a retinoid This Vitamin A derivative is best known for helping to increase cell turnover and encourage new collagen formation in the skin, which can lead to youngerlooking skin when used regularly. Many moisturisers, serums, and even sunscreens claim to contain retinoids, but they’re wasted when added to daytime products, because almost all retinoids are broken down by the sun’s UV rays. To get the most from your topical retinoid, apply it to your face, neck, and hands at bedtime. Use mouthwash When it comes to neutralising the cavity-causing acids that set up shop around our teeth and gums, saliva is the body’s partner-in-crime - only, we produce less of the stuff when we sleep. That can dry out your mouth, leaving teeth and gums vulnerable to things like tooth decay and gingivitis. Enter mouthwash: Swishing some before you hit the hay gives it the whole night to work, while also giving your mouth an extra layer of protection during the saliva drought. Antiseptic rinses help get rid of bacteria that cause gum disease and bad breath. Meanwhile,

fluoride rinses help with preventing tooth decay. (You may want to skip minty mouthwashes in favour of something fruity or unflavoured at bedtime, as mint can be invigorating and might make it harder to doze off.) Eat yogurt Giving your body a dose of good-foryour-gut bacteria before bed can help your immune system function optimally throughout the night, which is when it’s at its busiest. Look for "live active cultures" on the label of your favourite brand to ensure it contains good bugs like lactobacillus. Some research suggests that noshing on yogurt and other protein-rich foods before bed can also help your muscles repair and grow. Get some exercise When we sleep, our breathing is relatively infrequent and shallow, so oxygen levels are lower overnight. By taking a 15- to 20-minute walk before bed (and breathing deeply throughout),

you can help your cells stock up on the oxygen they need to accomplish all of their restorative handiwork while you snooze. Long thought to make it harder to drift off, a little exercise before bedtime–or anytime during the day–has actually been linked to better sleep. Just don’t do anything too vigorous right before hitting the sack. Incorporate a little stretching into that pre-bed physical activity and you might find you also wake up less stiff, since you’ll have prepped your muscles and tendons for regeneration while you

sleep. Apply antiperspirant Swiping on your antiperspirant before bed gives it the entire night to sink into your pores, helping to control sweating more effectively. That’s because physical activity (and the sweating that follows) is at a minimum when we snooze, giving an antiperspirant the chance to go into full-on protection mode without interference. You can still apply some more in the morning to freshen up, just make sure that applying it at night is your main priority.

Driving During the State of Alarm

Last week we reviewed the mandatory equipment that must be carried in vehicles in Spain, this week we return to another common question, what documents must be carried.

As part of the Government´s plans to impact the spread of the Covid-19 virus, restrictions have been placed on movements, including those involving the use of a vehicle.

Firstly, every individual must carry a recognised national identity document. If you have a Spanish driving licence, that is enough, if not then you must also carry your passport.

As the State of Alarm has been extended, we hope to satisfy any doubts you may have about the use of your private vehicle. You should only leave your home if absolutely necessary, and only for as short a time as possible, which may include travelling to your place of work, or could include shopping. Aside from the simple rule of only going out when absolutely necessary, the requirements are that there can not be more than one person, the driver, in the vehicle at a time. There is an exception whereas a taxi is permitted to carry a sole passenger. You may, under these rules, use your vehicle for the shortest possible journey between the two points, such as your home and your local store, for example. Checkpoints are frequently being set up to ensure that drivers comply with the rules and let us be clear that these rules have not been created to be a source of inconvenience, but rather to be a safety protocol to stop the spread of the virus. Therefore, with that in mind, a frequent question which has come up is, "Can I take my wife/husband to the supermarket?"

Mandatory Documentation

Let us clarify this. The rule set out in law states that "Transporte Particular", transport in your own vehicle, “En los que DEBA viajar mas de una persona", there MUST be a reasonable cause to take a second person in your vehicle, and this must be included in article 7. For example, two family members have an appointment in the hospital, work in the same place or area, or they need to attend to any place both together, and the presence of both it is

strictly necessary. We cannot apply this new measure to take a second person to do the shopping. The State of Alarm has been declared therefore we must remain at home and only go out when it is absolutely necessary. A modification to the law has been done to facilitate two people travellingin the same vehicle, instead of two, but only when it is necessary and not for leisure.

As a driver it is mandatory to carry your driving licence with you if you are driving, as failure to do so may constitute a criminal offence. A change in the law upgrading the offence of driving without a licence from an administrative sanctionable offence to a criminal one, and the burden of proof is on the individual to ensure that they carry the necessary documentation, or you could well find yourself spending a night in the cells until somebody can prove that you are entitled to drive. Now we know the documentation the driver must carry we can move onto that of the vehicle. It is mandatory to carry the“permiso de circulación”, a document which we may refer to as the “logbook” of the car. This document contains information such as the vehicle registration number and the characteristics of the vehicle. Next is the “tarjeta de inspeccióntécnica”, or the ITV card. This document contains the technical characteristics of the vehicle and the schedule of mandatory inspections. Some very modern vehicles don´t have this card as they will be phased out over time and replaced by a digital version, but if your vehicle has one, then it must be carried in the car. We must also carry the latest ITV inspection report, as issued by the test centre during the last inspection. This will provide details of the inspection and if any faults were detected during that test. It is not mandatory to carry your insurance documents, but it is advisable to carry proof of your insurance, including the policy details, as you will be required to exchange these with

another driver in the event of an incident. It is also advisable to carry the “European Accident Report Form” which you can obtain from your insurance company. This form is available in many different languages and is set out the same in each, thus allowing you to complete the necessary details with another person who doesn´t perhaps speak the same language as you. For all the mandatory documentation, it is a requirement that they are the originals, not photocopies. The only exception to this rule is that you can carry a “notarised” copy. In other words, you may take any of these documents to your local Notary, and they will be able to copy them for you. The difference between this type of copy and a normal photocopy is that they will put their sealing stamp on the documents which certifies them to be exact copies of the originals. These are as valid as the originals, but plain photocopies are not.
