May Fair controversy
a Feria de Sevillanas which is traditionally held in May, has been put back this year until the 10th October, it was announced by Torrevieja town hall. The townspeople of Torrevieja were eagerly awaiting the fair which usually takes place around this time of year as one of the highlights of the fiesta calendar. However, in their bid to rid the town of
illegal contracts this is another event which is, at least temporarily, suffering the consequences. Councillor for fiestas, Domingo Pérez,explained that the correct contracts could not be put into place in time for the May fair to take place during its usual slot. Administrators informed him that, at best, the contracts could not be arranged for another two months which would have taken the fair to at least the 19th June and possibly into July. The town hall has discounted staging the fair over the busy summer months when the heat would be too much for the horses and riders.
