A Woman’s World

IT’S FANTASTIC TO BE A WOMAN!

SOME FUNNY... SOME TRUE FACTS ABOUT LIVING IN ‘A WOMEN’S WORLD’... • Aspire to be Barbie: the bitch has everything. • If the shoe fits: buy one in every color. • Women see more colors... Ever argued with your other half over white curtains that he claimed to be either eggshell or cream? Well, that’s due to women seeing on average 20% more differences in colors and shapes. • Take life with a pinch of salt... a wedge of lime, and a shot of tequila. • In need of a support group? Cocktail hour with the girls! • The average woman will eat 4 lb of lipstick in her lifetime. • Let your greatest fear be that there is no PMS: And this is just your personality. • You might make your man fatter - A lot of men in long-term relationships are getting bigger, Women go into a “taking care” mode that results in feeding their partner excessively. • I know I'm in my own little world, but it's ok: They know me there. • Lead me not into temptation: I can find it myself. • You have a heightened sense of smell - this helped our ancestors to survive and, as women were mainly gatherers, helped them to pick the right foods for the family. • High heels were originally for men - In the 1600s, heels were brought into women’s fashion to mimic the men who wore heels as a sign of their masculinity and status. • Remember every good looking, sweet, single male is: Someone else's ex boyfriend/husband! • Don't get your knickers in a knot, it solves nothing: And it makes you walk funnily.

p i s z s i o b G Show

LIFE AFTER THE BIG BANG THEORY... Is ending,

and it’s ending soon. After 13 years on our screens. Here’s what the gang have planned once the series ends. JIM PARSONS (Sheldon): It’s hard to imagine Jim playing anyone other than Sheldon Cooper but over the past few years he has proven it can be done. After years working in comedy, the star’s next role is taking one hell of a dark turn, and he’ll star this year alongside Zac Efron in the serial killer Ted Bundy’s biopic, Extremely Wicked, and Vile. He will still be around in spirit though, as the narrator of the show’s spin-off series, Young Sheldon. JOHNNY GALECKI (Leonard): Johnny doesn’t have any official projects in the works once BBT comes to an end – but we’re sure he’ll be up to something. Over the course of his career he has been in not just one, but two massive sitcoms to his name, appearing in Roseanne before becoming Leonard Hofstadher. KAYLEY CUCAO (Penny): She'll be executive producer and provide the voice of the titular character DC Universe's Harley Quinn, a new animated series about the fan-favorite Batman villain. Kaley has also signed up to appear in TV thriller The Flight Attendant. SIMON HELBERG (Howard): Simon doesn’t appear to have any on-screen commitments in the near future. However, he’s active on the stage, and makes appearances at the Pasadena Playhouse in California. KUNAL NAYYAR (Raj): Kunal’s big break into the industry was Rajesh Koothrappali. Alongside his BBT commitments, he’s also currently filming Sweetness in the Belly a drama alongside Dakota Fanning. The story follows the life of a girl called Lilly, who lives in a disenfranchised community in London and is attempting to reunite with her long-lost love, a doctor named Aziz. MELISSA RAUCH (Bernadette): Up next for Melissa Rauch is the movie Ode to Joy, which is set for release in 2019. MAYIM BIALIK (Amy): Once the show ends, she is connected to be the voice of The BOOTH in new show The Inspector Chronicles, a sci-fi tale of an immortal time and space traveller who goes on adventures.

BILLIONS SEASON 4… Starts, March 17th on Showtime. Battle lines are drawn anew when Billions returns. After all, as Damian Lewis’ Bobby Axelrod proclaims in the show’s new teaser, “We now live in a universe split down the middle. You gotta pick sides.” When everyone is out for revenge, no one is safe. Bobby Axelrod & Chuck Rhoades, former enemies have come together to form an uneasy but highly effective alliance, aimed at the eradication of all their rivals... The shivers are forming in my spine now! ‘RHOBH’ SEASON 9… Kyle Richards & Ken Todd’s bust up. There is also a huge spat between Lisa Vanderpump and the other housewives. Security had to get involved, which led to Kyle being kicked out of Villa Rosa, the home Lisa shares with Ken. All of the other wives came to Kyle’s defense quickly and have reminded her of this incident as she’s pondered reaching out to Lisa. Kyle always has a soft spot in her heart for Lisa and is a very forgiving person, but the other ladies feel this incident took things way too far and have no interest in forgiving her. This incident is the cause of the wives not being able to move past their feelings on Lisa. Everyone had Kyle’s back and continues to do so. This fight is like nothing you’ve ever seen on Beverly Hills before.... The new season of RHOBH starts on Bravo TV USA on the 12th of Feb, WOW it’s going to be a corker! HAVE THE BECKHAMS LOST TOUCH WITH REALITY? With a joint net worth of £332 million you can’t blame the Beckhams for splashing the cash. Last month the couple’s seven-year-old daughter was having a ‘baby facial’. And as if all that wasn’t extreme enough, Victoria sent fans into further uproar when she posted a picture of David asleep with their cocker spaniel Olive, under a £4,600 Louis Vuitton blanket. Fans believe that spending at this rate is unrealistic and not a lifestyle that can be attained by many, maybe this is why their once loyal fan base is depleting.

AT THE COUNCIL ANYONE???

A BLOKE GOES TO THE LOCAL COUNCIL TO APPLY FOR A JOB IN THE OFFICE..... The interviewer asks him, "Are you allergic to anything?” He replies, "Yes, caffeine." "Have you ever worked for the public service before?" "Yes, I was in the army." he says, "I was in Iraq for two tours." The interviewer says, "That will give you 5 extra points towards employment." Then he asks, "Are you disabled in any way?" The guy says, "Yes. When I was I was in Iraq a mine exploded near me when I was ton duty and I lost both of my testicles". The interviewer grimaces and then says, "O.K. You’ve got enough points for me to take you on right away. Our normal hours are from 8.00am to 4.00pm... But you can start tomorrow at 10.00am... And carry on starting at 10.00am every day." The bloke is puzzled and asks, "If the work hours are from 8.00am to 4.00pm, why don't you want me here until 10.00am? I’m not looking for any special treatment y'know". "What you have to understand is that this is a council job," the interviewer says, "For the first two hours, we just stand around drinking coffee and scratching our b******s. There's no point in you coming in for that."

NEW TAX ADVANTAGES TO REMOVE SOMEONE FROM TITLE DEEDS A recent decision by the Spanish Supreme Court has unified the criteria in relation to the payment of the tax that it is levied when removing someone from title deeds (extinction of joint ownership). Until now, this tax was calculated on the total value of the property but under the new law, tax will be calculated on the value of the part of the property that is transferred. In other words, if a property is jointly owned by Peter and Mary and they decide that the property should only belong to Peter as the sole owner, Peter will acquire Mary´s 50% share on the property. The tax then will be calculated on 50% of the total value of the property, not on the total value of the property, as it would have been under the previous law. If, for example Peter owns 80% of the asset and acquires the 20% that belonged to Mary, the tax payable will only be calculated on 20% of the total value. 1.5% Stamp Duty is charged on these transfers, so under the new rules, 1.5% of the percentage acquired will be payable. Currently, and in principle, this is not retrospective, so it can only be applied since the introduction of the new regulations, and therefore if you have already removed someone from the title deeds, you will most probably not benefit from this new law. However, it is worth us requesting a refund of the difference between the new figure and what you have already paid from the Tax office, as we do not know for certain which criteria they will finally follow. In order for the Tax office to consider that there is an “extinction of co-ownership”, the 100% ownership of the property may only be acquired by one person. In the event that, for example, there are three owners, and only one of them sells his share to the other two, it is not considered an “extinction of co-ownership” but a simple sale of a part of the property. In these cases it is understood that there has been a sale and therefore the tax payable is the Transfer Tax and then the tax rate is 8% on the value of the part of the property that is sold.

SOME NOT SO ROMANTIC THOUGHTS ON LOVE & MARRIAGE! • Getting married is very much like going to a continental restaurant with friends. You order what you want, then when you see what the other fellow has, you wish you had ordered that. • At the cocktail party, one woman said to another, “Aren't you wearing your wedding ring on the wrong finger?” The other replied, “Yes I am, I married the wrong man.” • Man is incomplete until he is married. Then he is really finished. • A little boy asked his father, “Daddy, how much does it cost to get married?” And the father replied, “I don't know, son, I'm still paying for it.” • After a quarrel, a wife said to her husband, “You know, I was a fool when I married you.” The husband replied, “Yes, dear, but I was in love and didn't notice it.” • A man inserted an advert in the classifieds: ‘Wife wanted’. Next day he received a hundred letters. They all said the same thing: “You can have mine.” • When a man opens the door of his car for his wife, you can be sure of one thing: either the car is new or the wife. • When a man steals your wife, there is no better revenge than to let him keep her.

How to find without swiping right!

Here are some of the best ice-breakers: A few effective techniques for chatting up an attractive stranger…

Advice for Blokes from Blokes! THE CHARMER: “If I see a girl I like the look of I focus on the one thing I really like about the way she looks and then pay her a compliment. I know it sounds simple and maybe even a bit cheesy, but it only works if you’ve genuinely studied her face and found an attribute that you really like. You’ve got to say it like you mean it, not like it’s just some line. It could be something obvious like her eyes or lips or subtle like her dimples when she smiles.” THE ADVICE SEEKER: “Asking for advice is the easiest way to start a conversation. For example in a restaurant I’ll ask the cute woman at the next table what she’s having and if she’d recommend it and let the conversation flow from there. Simples.” THE ATTENTION SEEKER: “When me and my mates are out at a bar and spot a table of fit guys we usually get the waiter to send them over a round of drinks from us. When they come over to thank us we invite them to join us. Job done!” THE LONG DISTANCE FLIRT: “I’m a regular at my local pub quiz and have recently discovered that a bit of friendly heckling can work wonders with someone you are trying to flirt with. It’s an ideal way to flirt from a safe distance and instigate some cheeky banter. It also primes them nicely for when I wander over afterwards and offer to buy them a drink with my winnings - or insist they buy me one with theirs.”

We like people that are like ourselves. It’s known as rapport, a mutual feeling of understanding and trust. And the way you communicate is the key to building rapport with someone of the other sex.

February 2019 Costa Link Magazine.qxp_Editorial Layout 26/01/19 12:52 pm Page 41

The fact is that men and women communicate in different ways.. . CONNECTING TO A MAN - TO CONNECT WELL WITH A MAN, YOU SHOULD: • Speak slower. Men speak in a slow and deliberate way. So try and match his speed, pace and pitch. •Talk facts not feelings. Present facts as the basis of a discussion or argument, not your feelings, emotions or feminine intuition. • Make direct statements and try not to be apologetic. Say things like “we need to...” rather than “I was hoping that we can...” • Talk about the things he’s interested in. Sport, work, politics, cars (and roads), and gadgets. And themselves! • Mirror his posture without appearing to mimic him. • Be clear about what you want and go for it!

CONNECTING TO A WOMAN. TO CONNECT WELL WITH A WOMAN, YOU SHOULD: • Make lots of eye contact and smile. Watch her mouth and then her eyes when she talks, look into her eyes when you talk. But make sure that you don't stare. • Try and talk a bit faster – appear excited and try to match her speed, pace and tone. • Talk about emotions and feelings, not just facts. Ask her opinion and say things like “how do you feel about…” • Use more adjectives. Show lots of emotion. Appear excited and use lots of hand gestures when talking and facial gestures when listening. • Use active listening techniques such as nodding your head, saying “yea”, etc. Look confident by sitting upright and leaning slightly forward. • Try and find a reason to touch her upper arm or back of her hand with your fingertips. And last of all PLAYFUL, NOT SERIOUS Fun and playful works much better than serious and deep. This is true whether you want a series of one-night stands or whether you’re like a recent client of mine who told me my job for him was to find me a wife. Even serious women go out because they want to relax and have fun. There’s a time and a place for being serious and deep, but it’s not within 15 minutes of meeting her. Smile, laugh, and don’t take everything too seriously.

Good luck out there it’s a minefield.. . If you have any advice or fantastic chat up line’s please send them to: info@costalinkmagazine.com

Both green and black teas are packed with flavonoids, a type of antioxidant. Where green tea really excels is in its levels of epigallocatechin gallate, or EGCG, another powerful antioxidant. EGCG has been shown to enhance immune function. The fermentation process black tea goes through destroys a lot of the EGCG. Green tea, on the other hand, is steamed and not fermented, so the EGCG is preserved. Green tea is also a good source of the amino acid L-theanine. SLEEP APNEA...

Obstructive sleep apnoea (OSA) is a relatively common condition where the walls of the throat relax and narrow during sleep, interrupting normal breathing. If you snore loudly and feel tired even after a full night's sleep, you might have obstructive sleep apnea (OSA). It is a relatively common condition where the walls of the throat relax and narrow during sleep, interrupting normal breathing. APNOEA AND HYPOPNOEA: THERE ARE TWO TYPES OF BREATHING INTERRUPTION CHARACTERISTIC OF OSA: APNOEA: Where the muscles and soft tissues in the throat relax and collapse sufficiently to cause a total blockage of the airway; it's called an apnoea when the airflow is blocked for 10 seconds or more

HYPOPNOEA: A partial blockage of the airway that results in an airflow reduction of greater than 50% for 10 seconds or more.

People with OSA may experience repeated episodes of apnoea and hypopnoea throughout the night. These events may occur around once every one or two minutes in severe cases. As many people with OSA experience episodes of both apnoea and hypopnoea, doctors sometimes refer to the condition as obstructive sleep apnoea-hypopnoea syndrome, or OSAHS. The term "obstructive" distinguishes OSA from rarer forms of sleep apnoea, such as central sleep apnoea, which is caused by the brain not sending signals to the breathing muscles during sleep.

•A Cervical Smear test is an important part of maintaining health for all women who have ever been sexually active. Some women may find the smear test uncomfortable or embarrassing and so may put off having one. • This examination only takes a few minutes and could save your life. • Annual smear tests reduce your risk of Cervical Cancer by 92% • In the UK alone it is estimated to save 1000 lives each year

• 80-90% of abnormalities are detected through regular smear tests, and can be treated early to Prevent Cancer

• In 2018 it is estimated that 7 million women missed there smear test WHAT IS A SMEAR TEST?

In a Private room with a female nurse we will ask you to lie on an examination couch with a blanket over you. You will be asked to lie in position with you feet together and knees apart and a disposable plastic speculum will be inserted into your vagina. This holds the walls of the vagina open so your cervix can be seen. We will then use a tiny brush or spatula to gently scrape off a sample of your cervical cells. These cells are then smeared onto a glass slide to be sent to the laboratory. The speculum is then removed, with minimal discomfort within those few minutes. WHEN IS IT BEST TO DO A SMEAR TEST?

The Department of Health recommends women between the ages of 25 and 64 years of age, have routine smears. In our opinion all women that are sexually active need to be screened regardless of age. It is best to schedule your smear for the middle of your menstrual cycle as it is easiest to get a good sample at this time. If you are menstruating it may be too difficult for us to get an adequate sample, or if you think you may be pregnant it is best for us to know, and we can test for this. HOW ARE THE RESULTS GIVEN AND WHAT DO THEY MEAN?

After 7 to 10 days you will be recalled to the clinic to discuss your results. If there are abnormal cell changes, you will be referred for a follow up appointment. If the cells are clear, you will wait another year before re booking unless you have any concerns in the meantime.

At Clinica Medicare all our cervical smear tests are performed by female nurses who are experienced in Women’s health. For more information call us on 952 835 776. 50

Hidden Heart Cake

Slice into this delicious loaf cake and reveal the secret heart design running through the middle - a really romantic bake!

•2 x 85g ground almond •2 x 100ml milk •3 tsp vanilla extract FOR THE CAKE •28ml bottle red food colouring or •2 x 175g unsalted butter, softened •½ tsp red food colouring gel •2 x 175g golden caster sugar FOR THE ICING •6 large eggs •100ml double cream •2 x 140g self-raising flour, sifted •200g dark chocolate, finely chopped •2 x ½ tsp baking powder •50g unsalted butter •3 tbsp cocoa powder •Pink sprinkles (optional)

Ingredients:

Method

1) heat oven to 160c/140c fan/gas 3. grease a 900g loaf tin and line with a long strip of baking parchment. cream 175g butter and 175g sugar until light and fluffy. Beat 3 of the eggs and pour in, a little at a time, mixing after each addition. Sift together 140g flour, 1⁄2 tsp baking powder and the cocoa, then fold into the butter mixture along with the almonds. combine 100ml milk, 11⁄2 tsp vanilla and all the food colouring and add to the batter, then mix until evenly coloured. 2) Pour into the prepared loaf tin and bake for 1 hr 10 mins until a skewer comes out clean. cool for 10 mins in the tin, then transfer to a wire rack. When cool, cut the cake into 4cm slices. Using a 5cm cut-

ter, stamp out the hearts (save any remaining cake for another treat). 3) repeat step 1 to make a second cake mixture – you won’t have cocoa or food colour in this batch. Pour 3⁄4 of the mixture into the prepared loaf tin. Push the bottoms of the hearts into the batter in a tightly packed row. Spoon over the remaining cake mixture, covering as much of the hearts as possible. bake for 1 hr or until a skewer comes out clean. cool for 10 mins in the tin, then transfer to a wire rack to cool completely. 4) For the icing, gently heat all the ingredients over a low heat until combined. Leave to cool, then chill until needed. Spread over the cooled cake and decorate with the sprinkles, if using. Will keep for 3 days stored in a cake tin.

NAIAS IN DETROIT

The North American International Auto Show in Detroit was the first major car show this year – we look at some of the World debuts in Motor City. Cadillac unveiled a new large SUV ahead of the show, using an event at Detroit’s Garden Theatre to launch its new XT6. It also teased the first images of an upcoming debut electric model, the first to be built on GM's new electric platform. Fernando Alonso was wheeled onto stage for the eagerly awaited Supra launch. He said, “I want to introduce you to one of my closest friends, the new Toyota Supra. Also known as one of the worst kept secrets in the industry.“ The Ford Mustang Shelby GT500 is the most powerful road-legal series production machine the firm has ever offered with a supercharged 5.2-litre V8 engine producing at least 700bhp – beating even the Ford GT supercar. Lincoln is celebrating 80 years of its Continental model with a special 80th Anniversary Coach Door Edition. The machine is a stretched version of a regular Continental saloon with backwardopening rear doors (presumably ‘coach doors’ sounds a bit more premium than ‘suicide doors’).

58

Nissan also had an electric concept with the IMs, a sporting coupe-style machine designed to prove that electric cars don’t have to be boxy SUVs. It’s not the first of its type we’ve seen, but it’s another interesting development from one of the leading EV firms.

Capricorn, you benefit from the transit of Venus in your skies this month. If you are single you are in the mood to find that special someone; you’re happier and even charming! Who could resist. You might still be awkward when it comes to approaching someone you like, but the good thing is that you’re at least trying. If you are in a serious relationship not much changes. You could work at getting closer to your other half particularly after the 19th. On the work front a lot hinges on the way you present yourself, the way you behave with business partners etc. Luckily, Venus is involved so you have no trouble winning over everyone. When it comes to money, the beginning the month could be a significant moment. The New Moon on the 4th energises you to come up with new ways of making an income. During the first part of the month many issues may stress you out but your health is good, all in all. Aquarius, on February 4th there is a New Moon and the impact of this will be felt on a personal level. You’ll have to find a way to balance your need for independence within the relationship you are in. If you are single then the Sun on your sign until the 19th gives you the power to win over someone you’ve been interested in for a while now. The New Moon also opens up a term during which you could grow on a personal level on the work front standing out or maybe changing jobs, if you don’t like the current one. Your personal contribution to the grand plan becomes more obvious. The Full Moon on the 19th activates your money related matters. You might get money from the bank or some other kind of funds. But be careful if you want to loan money to friends you could lose it. You have a lot of energy and thirst for life this month. You feel like you’re making progress things are evolving. Pisces, the New Moon on the 4th could mark a new beginning in your love life if you are single or in a relationship. If you don’t break away from something in your past then you are going to have issues moving forward. The Full Moon on the 19th activates the axis of your relationships and will bring forth the issue of a compromise – it brings you to the point of understanding the idea of balance between your needs and the needs of your other half. Until the 19th of the month work seems to go at a slower pace. You could get access to secret information that could help you gain advantages or make yourself heard. Use the information with care. You could go through a term of closing up, reconnecting with yourself and with spiritual things you believe in. Give yourself a time of solitude that would allow you to find your balance again, find your inner voice and make peace with yourself. Aries, you’re in a very friendly mood this month, which is also encouraged by the transit of the Sun through your sign until February 19th. Be careful not to make your partner jealous by flirting left and right. If you are single it’s a busy time for you! If you meet someone things could get very serious very quickly… So be careful about what you get yourself into! Venus gives help in meeting that special someone through professional ties. February 17th and 19th are favourable days for proposing marriage to someone, or for answering a proposal. Be careful when it comes to certain friends that are encouraging you to behave irresponsibly – steer clear of them! Make the most of the Full Moon on February 19th it will help you bring an end professional pursuits that aren’t profitable. You could feel a very strong urge to leave your current job, but don’t act on it unless you have a backup plan.

Taurus, during the first half of February 2019 you’re more predisposed toward dreaming about love. Venus transits your sign from February 4th, 2019; you are seeking a deeper meaning in relationship you’re involved in. If you’re single, you can use all of your resources to attract a partner from abroad, or from the academic environment. You should have no issues when it comes to finding a partner this month. With Mars in Taurus you’re determined to make your romantic dreams come true. The New Moon of February 4th is a significant moment for you. It’s time for new business plans or maybe a new job. Be daring go for what you want! Be careful when making risky investments. Your intuition helps you navigate even the murkiest of waters. Your morale and health are pretty good this month. Mars transits Taurus and gives you the necessary energy in order to feel strong and confident about your decisions and actions.

Gemini, this month you have a very active social life. Mars in your sign helps you approach someone that you’ve been attracted to for a while now. Whether you’re married, in a relationship, or looking for love, make the most of the first two weeks of February 2019. It’s a great time to clear up some things about your relationship, declare your feelings etc. This month, the planets help you sharpen your knowledge and apply it in your professional life. One might say that it’s a lucky month when it comes to money a month during which you receive some funds that you were hoping for. Don’t neglect your family! The Full Moon of February 19th, could mark a term during which you have to deal with a personal crisis or offer your loved ones more attention.

During the second half of the month you could be drawn into some extramarital affair or discover that your spouse is having one. Professionally your creativity knows no bounds this month. If you aren’t feeling it - it would be a shame to waste the opportunities that are coming your way. When it comes to money, if you have real estate or are in that business then expect to do very well. It’s a good time to make detailed plans for your future, for discussing and negotiating with foreign partners or for dealing with firm-related issues. Your health is one of your main concerns for this month; but you shouldn’t overdo it with worries and treatments.

Scorpio, you yearn for affection and stability in your love life this month. If you are single then luckily you find the best words to declare your love, to approach someone you’ve been attracted to for a long time. If you are in a relationship then expect things to get a little rocky around the 10th this could trigger misunderstandings or arguments particularly in older couples. Maybe your other half becomes more prone to arguments. With Mars in your sign until the 14th you get a lot of energy to direct at your professional life. As he arrived home, the cat was walking up the driveway. The next day he decided to drive the cat forty streets away. He put the beast out and headed home. Driving back up his driveway, there was the cat! He kept taking the cat further and further and the cat would always beat him home. At last he decided to drive a few miles away, turn right, then left, past the bridge, then right again and another right until he

reached what he thought was a safe distance from his home and left the cat there. Hours later the man calls home to his wife: “Jen, is the cat there?” “Yes,” the wife answers, “why do you ask?” Frustrated, the man answered, “Put that son of a b*tch on the phone, I'm lost and need directions!”

You’re on a horse, galloping at a constant speed. On your right side is a sheer drop, and on your left side is an elephant travelling at the same speed as you. Directly in front of you is another galloping horse but your horse is unable to overtake it. Behind you is a lion running at the same speed ad you and the horse in front. What can you do to get out of this highly dangerous situation safely? Sober up and get off the merry-go-round!

TEACHER TALES: During one of her daily classes a teacher trying to teach good manners, asked her students the following question: “Michael, if you were on a date having dinner with a nice young lady, how would you tell her that you have to go to the bathroom?” Michael said, “Just a minute I have to go pee.” The teacher responded by saying, “That would be rude and impolite. What about you Paul, how would you say it?” Paul said, “I am sorry, but I really need to go to the bathroom. I'll be right back.” “That's better, but it's still not very nice to say the word bathroom at the dinner table. And you, little Johnny, can you use your brain for once and show us your good manners?” “I would say: Darling, may I please be excused for a moment? I have to shake hands with a very dear friend of mine, whom I hope you'll get to meet after dinner.” The teacher fainted.
