A Woman’s World

HAPPY NEW YEAR!

DIETING NEW YEAR RESOLUTIONS... 2014: I will get my weight down below 180 pounds. 2015: I will follow my new diet religiously until I get below 200 pounds. 2016: I will develop a realistic attitude about my weight. 2017: I will work out 3 days a week. 2018: I will try to drive past a gym at least once a week.

WHEN USING BATHROOM SCALES... THESE SIMPLE RULES MUST BE FOLLOWED: 1) Always place the scale on thick shag pile carpeting. 2) Hold tightly onto the basin stand and gradually release the weight of the body onto the scale. 3) Make sure needle placement is accurate by cautiously adjusting the little round knob on the centre-front, very slowly to the left. (Zero is a wide number and should be treated accordingly.) 4) WARNING: Stay away from digital scales. (They are not properly adjustable and therefore inaccurate.) 5) DO NOT WEIGH YOURSELF CONSTANTLY... Every time you stand on the scales it stretches the little springs and wing nuts inside (even on digital scales, you just cat’t see them!) the result, even with no weight gain whatsoever, is that the scale makes you appear to weigh a little more each time.

IS KATE MIDDLETON PREGNANT AGAIN? The Duke and Duchess of Cambridge welcomed Prince Louis, the latest addition to their family, in April last year. But is Kate pregnant again? The news broke last month in the US but has not yet been substantiated by the official palace spokes people… Kate & Prince William already have three children together - Prince George, Princess Charlotte & Prince Louis. As Prince William’s brother Prince Harry is expecting his first child with Meghan Markle, bookies have slashed the odds on the Duke and Duchess of Cambridge expecting a baby as well. This we feel will not help the rift between the two families. Bookies Coral have released odds over a sudden announcement from the future King and Queen of England as the odds now shows the chance of Kate being pregnant at 1/2 - a 50 percent chance. BIG BANG THEORY NEWBIE FOR THE FINAL SEASON…

Lindsey Kraft, will play the new wife of Penny's ex Zack. She will return for multiple episodes of season 12, which is set to be the show's final installment, as a recurring character. We wonder what the final episodes will contain and why Zack wife is involved… The plot thickens!

MEGHAN MARKLE FINDING IT HARD TO SETTLE… Meghan Markle

is struggling and apparently finding it hard to settle in the "arcane" world of the British Royal Family royal expert Penny Junor has claimed last month… But really what did you expect? Going from a life of Hollywood glamour to a very different way of living… It comes as the Duchess' father, Thomas Markle, appeared on ITV Good Morning Britain to reveal he attempts to get in touch with his daughter but is yet to receive an answer from her. We wonder how Meghan will find the New Year and if the arrival of a new baby will help here situation?

KATIE PRICE CHARGED WITH DRINK DRIVING AGAIN…

Katie Price has been having arguably one of the worst years of her life. Not only has her mum Amy been diagnosed as having a terminal lung disease, but her third marriage to Kieran Hayler broke down AND she's facing bankruptcy. To top it all off, she's now been charged with drink driving after crashing her pink Range Rover in London, and will face Bromley Magistrates' Court in the second week of January 2019. Katie was allegedly supposed to be abstaining from alcohol at the time of the incident as she'd checked herself in to The Priory for treatment, but it's been reported that she'd been drinking for five days just before she was arrested.

JAMES ARGENT SUBJECTED TO REGULAR DRUG TESTS…

ITV bosses have offered them their own show... But it comes with the condition he stays clean for ten months, after his role in Diva Espana was cut short because of his decision to enter rehab in the summer… He’s been undergoing regular drug tests as he bids to land a new telly series. The Towie star checked into rehab in 2014 after testing positive for cocaine and returned in the summer as a preventative measure after splitting with Gemma Collins. Now the pair are back together, production Company bosses want to make sure Arg is healthy and on the straight and narrow before they commit to the new show.

ELEMENTARY WILL END WITH SEVENTH SEASON… That other

Sherlock show is closing up shop. The series executive producer confirmed various reports last month that the upcoming seventh season will be the last. All of the episodes have already been filmed. (SPOILER ALERT... The seventh season will pick up with Holmes and Watson operating in London full-time, having been forced to flee New York City in the season six finale.)

He talked to the animals... A ventriloquist was driving through Devon when his car broke down near a farm. He found the farmer who let him use the phone in his outhouse to call for a breakdown truck. While they made their way to the farmhouse the ventriloquist thought he would have some fun with the farmer by pretending the animals could speak. They passed a horse in a paddock. The ventriloquist said to the farmer, "Is that your horse?" The farmer replied, "It be." The ventriloquist asked, "Can he talk?" The farmer said, "Don't be daft, of course 'e can't speak." The ventriloquist then said to the horse, "So, how do you like it here?" Then he threw his voice, and said in a horse-like tone, "Oh, it's pretty good. Every morning the farmer feeds me oats." The farmer was startled and quickened his pace. Soon they came to a cow. The ventriloquist asked, "Is this your cow?" and the farmer replied, "That it be." He then asked, "Does it talk?" and the farmer replied, "Don't talk crap!" The ventriloquist asked the cow, "How do you like it "Oh, I li here?" and threw his voice again. In a ke it ju fine..." st cow-like voice, he said, "Oh, I like it just fine. Every morning the farmer comes and milks me." Upon hearing this, the farmer squirmed. He looked down at the ground and continued walking. Soon they came to some sheep. The ventriloquist asked, "Are these your sheep?" and the farmer replied warily, "They might be..." He then asked, "Do they talk?" "Don't ee go askin' them sheep nuffink! They tells lies!"

RECENT CHANGES IN THE INHERITANCE LAW IN ANDALUCIA From 2018, the inheritance tax payable by the direct family of the person (children, grand-children, parents and married couples) will be exempt up to the value of 1 million euros per heir. Before the maximum per heir was 250.000€. This exemption applies when the benificiary´s pre-existing estate is not more than 1 million euros (previously 402.678,11 euros). Those who inherit an estate with a value of over 1 million euros, will only pay tax on the amount above this figure. For example with an inheritance of 1.500.000 euros, inheritance tax will only be paid on 500.000 euros. Unfortunately, siblings, nieces and nephews, uncles and cousins will not benefit from this exemption. The same amount of inheritance tax as before will be applicable. However, for this situations, a deduction of 7.993,46 euros on the tax treshold may be applied. If the heirs are siblings aged over 65 and if the inherited property is their habitual residence, there´s a deduction applicable of 95%. Donations In Andalucía, normally the inheritance tax is higher than the donation tax. However, there exists an exemption of 99% of this amount when parents donate to their childrens to help them buy their first habitual residence. The person who will receive the funds must not be over the age of 35. This exemption applies also when the person receiving the funds has a disability of more than the 33%. The new regulation also brings changes in donations. When parents give a donation to their children for the creation of enlargement of companies, there is an exemption of 1 million euros. However, on the condition that this donation must be done via in Public Tittle Deeds and the company must still be in business at least 5 years later.

Here six major food and drink trends to look out for in 2019. Warning: some of them might make you hungry! 1. PERSONALISED HEALTH: This one is no shocker: we're going to become even more conscious of what we put in our mouths as nutritional information gets easier to access. It may be you’ve had a DNA test (via Medilink see page 51) to find out what vitamins etc. you are needing or just getting on a health kick for the New Year but a smartphone app, will help you be able to view personalised dietary tips and bespoke shopping lists. 2. ICE CREAM: Forget vanilla 99’s or chocolate - as the newest ice cream

flavours will be much more unique, & hopefully delicious. Such as avocado, hummus, tahini and coconut water! The flavours and new techniques have been inspired by global influences such as Thai rolled ice cream and Turkish stretchy ice cream. And booze-filled popsicles will continue to be a popular warm-weather treat. 3. WEST AFRICAN FOOD: Vibrant and spicy dishes such as jollof rice and chicken yassa are predicted to become supper party staples, partly because they can be cooked in one pot, minimising the need for tedious midweek washing-up. It sounds good to us, yum, yum!

GADGETS &Gizmo’s The Amazon Echo Wall Clock is finally available. The analog clock that can sync with timers and display countdowns set through Alexa sells for 30€. To get the most of this wall clock, you'll need an Echo speaker to pair with it. It looks pretty basic with its modern minimalist design, but has 60 LEDs that display information located at the minute intervals and around the edge of the clock's face and can light up to correspond with a timer or a countdown to show how many minutes are remaining.

Postmates has revealed a cute autonomous delivery robot called Serve, It arrives at your front door and you enter a code to unlock the compartment and retrieve your items. All the latest in the world of tech and gaming... Arc’s Vector looks set to be the Tesla of motorbikes an all-electric “neo-café racer” that can hit 100kph in 3.1 seconds & reach a top speed of just over 200kph. With an urban range of 200 miles, or 120 if you’ve really got the throttle opened up, it comes with a Zenith helmet with head-up display & rear-view camera, and Origin jacket comes with a built-in haptic system to warn the rider if vehicles are in their blind spot. The whole package starts at 100.000€ including installation of a charger at your home.

The new Bose sunglasses have tiny speakers and a microphone built in, so you can stream tunes from your phone and speak to Siri or Google Assistant. They also have GPS and motion sensors, which means Bose’s Audio AR platform will know what you’re looking at and tell you all about it. They come in two styles - square and round.

Puma's RS-Computer shoes were tracking your running stats in 1986, well before wearable tech was a hot trend. The 2018 shoe measures calorie burn, distance and step counts. It has Bluetooth to pull send information to an Android or iOS app albeit one that nods to the original 8-bit software. Be quick though, Puma are making just 86 pairs available worldwide.

Ford (the motoring giant) has built a doghouse that uses noise cancelling to minimize canine agony during fireworks shows. Like the technology in some headphones and Ford's own Edge SUV, the kennel detects explosions with microphones and counteracts them by pumping out frequencies that mitigate the sounds or eliminate them altogether. The body includes soundproofied cork panels; anti-vibration risers & even soundproofed ventilation. This is just a prototype at the moment, but watch this space!

2019 Fancy Food Trends!

4. BITTER FOODS: Last year, the slightly bitter-tasting Aperol Spritz was dubbed the drink of summer 2018. Now the trend for bitter flavours will spill over into food. Expect to see even more dark chocolate and kale on menus and in the shops, plus more restaurants like London's Temper where meat and vegetables are cooked over a naked flame, giving a distinctive charred taste. 5. SEA GREENS: Seaweed has been replaced by kelp and algae as the popular oceanic snack - so don’t expect to snack on dried seaweed as often. Whole Foods predicts “puffed snacks made from water lily seeds,” plant-based tuna alternatives, crispy salmon skins, and kelp jerkies will all be having their moment on the shelves.

6. MOCKTAILS: As more millennials decide to go alcohol-free, cocktails will become more inventive and tempting. Key ingredients to look out for include beetroot, pickled onion, vegetable peel and fruit rind. Meanwhile, Kombucha cocktails are expected to become a bit of a thing as the fermented tea drink is used more frequently as a mixer. 7. FAUX MEAT: Plant-based foods aren’t a new phenomenon considering how prevalent veganism is in 2018 - the public continue to be replicating the taste of meat with nonmeat foods. The key ingredients, will be mushrooms and cauliflower. 8. CANNABIS IN EVERYTHING: As marijuana laws continue to loosen, more and more food manufacturers are jumping on the bandwagon. Many are making CBD-infused beer, coffee, and snacks, which are sort of legal everywhere. In places where recreationally legal.

IS SOCIAL MEDIA BAD FOR YOUR HEALTH?

The rise of social media has been expediential in the last decade meaning that the global population is more connected than we have ever been. But, our reliance on social media can have a detrimental effect on our mental health, with the average Brit checking their phone as much 28 times a day. While social media platforms can have their benefits, using them too frequently can make you feel increasingly unhappy and isolated in the long run. and see if that makes a difference to the quality of your sleep.

3) MENTAL HEALTH

1) SELF-ESTEEM

We all have our fair share of insecurities, some that we speak about openly and others that we prefer to keep to ourselves. However, comparing yourself to others on social media by looking at perfect Instagram photos or staying up to date with their relationship status on Facebook could do little to assuage your feelings of self-doubt. A study conducted by the University of Copenhagen found that many people suffer from “Facebook envy”, with those who abstained from using the popular site reporting that they felt more satisfied with their lives. Becoming more conscious of the amount of time you spend scrolling through other people’s online profiles could help you focus more on yourself and boost your self-confidence.

2) SLEEP

Having enough sleep if very important. However, many of us use our phones too soon before choosing the hit the hay, making it harder to doze off. The light from our mobile device just inches from our face can suppress the release of melatonin, a hormone that helps us feel tired. Try setting yourself a strict rule of not going on your phone for at least 40 minutes to an hour before going to bed, 46

Not only has social media been proven to cause unhappiness, but it can also lead to the development of mental health issues such as anxiety or depression when used too much or without caution. If you are aware of it or not you are constantly judging yourself by other lives… A new age “keeping up with the Joneses”.

4) HUMAN CONNECTION

As human beings, it’s so important for us to be able to communicate and forge personal connections with one another.

Facebook admits collecting data on phone calls, but says people agreed. However, it can be hard to do so when we’re glued to rectangular screens, becoming more acquainted with our friends’ digital facades than their real-life personas.

A study published in the American Journal of Epidemiology that assessed 5,208 subjects found that overall, regular use of social media had a negative impact on an individual’s wellbeing. While you don’t necessarily have to quit social media for good, if you feel like it’s beginning to bog you down, why not consider allocating social media-free time slots during your daily routine? The slight change could do you a whole lot of good.

HOW MUCH ALCOHOL IS TOO MUCH?...

As the Christmas and New Year festivities have come to an end, we take a look at staying within the low risk drinking guidelines is essential to maintaining a healthy overall lifestyle: Everyone responds to alcohol differently. Your height, weight and gender are just some of the factors that play a part in how alcohol affects you. Even what you've had to eat that day or how much sleep you've had can make a difference to how you feel when you drink. THE LOW RISK DRINKING GUIDELINES To keep health risks from alcohol low, the UK guidelines advise it is safest not to drink more than 14 units a week on a regular basis. The more alcohol you drink the greater your risk of developing both short and long term health issues. And it's not just your liver you need to be worried about. Alcohol consumption is also linked to a number of serious health conditions including heart problems, high blood pressure, poor mental health, and seven types of cancer.

WHAT'S A UNIT OF ALCOHOL? SEE THE PIC ABOVE:

TOLERANCE TO ALCOHOL:

It’s important not to assume that, even if you aren’t regularly ‘getting drunk’, that you are drinking within the low risk guidelines. People who drink regularly build up a tolerance. This might mean that you notice the effects of alcohol less but the fact is that the more you drink the greater the risk to your health.

It's not as simple as one drink, one unit. The size and strength of your drink will determine the number of units it contains. A glass of wine can range between just over one unit and more than three units depending on the size of the glass and type of wine. And people who choose to drink at home tend to pour measures that are larger than you get at a pub, bar If you are building up tolerance that could be an or restaurant. So you could be regularly drinking far early sign of alcohol dependence. If you think you more than you think. might be dependent on alcohol, or if you have physical withdrawal symptoms (e.g. shaking, sweating, HOW TO CUT DOWN ON ALCOHOL: nausea before you have your first drink of the day) •Ask for a small glass of wine. then you should seek medical advice from your DOCTOR before you stop drinking. •A 125ml glass is around 1½ units of alcohol. •Drink spritzers if you like wine or pints of shandy if you're a lager drinker. You'll still get a large drink, but one that contains less alcohol.

•Opt for half pints if you prefer higher strength lager or try a lower strength drink option. You really won't notice the difference. •Alternate alcoholic drinks with soft drinks. 48

NEW CARS FOR 2019

It looks like 2019 is going to be the Year of the EV with all electric vehicles from Mini, The Porsche Taycan and The Mercedes EQC. Here are some of the new cars we will see on our roads this year. A coupé version of the Porsche Cayenne has an identical front end to the standard SUV with a new sloping back end, this will put a dent in sales of the BMW X6 and Mercedes GLC. After a 17 year wait, the new Toyota Supra will be available at the end of the year. Sharing the 3.0-litre six-cylinder turbo engine and drivetrain with the new BMW Z4. With 300bhp it should offer a sub-five-second 0-100kph time and more than 200kph. The all-new Mazda 3 will feature swooping lines and Mazda’s new SkyActiv-X petrol engine. Using new compression and ignition technology, it is said to deliver diesel-like efficiency in a petrol format.

The BMW 8 Series will appear this year, The Gran Coupé will have a longer wheelbase and two more doors than the Coupé, and rival the Porsche Panamera and Mercedes CLS. The range will be available with 3.0-litre six-cylinder diesel or 4.4-litre petrol V8 engines.

58

The SEAT Tarraco is a seven seater SUV. Built on the same platform as the VW Tiguan and Skoda Kodiaq, it is 40mm longer so should feel roomier. There’s a large, floating, tablet-style infotainment screen, plus luxurious finishes are available. Petrol and diesel engines will be offered, and a plug-in hybrid will follow.

The partners originally planned to sell the mineral corundum, an important ingredient in building grinding wheels, 1) AVON: David H. McConnell started Avon in directly to manufacturers. 1886 without meaning to. McConnell sold books 4) WRIGLEY: Like Avon, the chewing gum comdoor-to-door, but to lure in female customers he pany got its start with a popular freebie. William offered little gifts of perfume. Cancer, wow what a start to the year! With Mars and Jupiter are in your skies and they attracts opportunities with amorous potential; the power of your passion is unstoppable your emotions and feelings are electrifying! All in all, January 2019 is a significant month with high stakes. During January the spotlight is on interactions with those around you on the work front, of all kinds: collaborations and teamwork are at the foreground of all you do. Money depends on others: you make it or spend it together with them or for them. You burst with energy, but can have issues related to lack of balance and measure. You get too involved in the problems of others, get too worked up, tend to overdo it, and can run into stress. You should work out more: go to the gym, walks etc.. Burn all the excess energy and keep your body in a state of harmony.

Leo, January 2019 seems to steer your attention more toward practical aspects of life than romantic ones. But it’s not impossible for the two aspects to be entwined. Venus and Saturn are in your skies and bringing your home life and work life very much together. You may start a relationship with someone you met through work, get involved with your partner in fulfilling certain responsibilities or you both work in the same place or maybe on the same project. January 2019 brings your focus on to profession and duty. Set your goals and get started you’ll start achieving them very quickly. It’s time to solve some issues you’ve been neglecting, for diets after the Holidays, visiting your doctor or dentist regularly, basically getting yourself in the best shape for the new year.

Virgo, January 2019 is going to be an exceptional month for you, during which you can overcome all barriers and bathe in love like a very happy pig rolling in the poo! This month sees the burning Sun, Mercury, Venus, Pluto, and Saturn stimulate your romantic drive and give great favours amorous pursuits. So be careful: things could get wild! With a lot of planets transiting your skies this month is rich in offers and opportunities. Now you can unleash all of the talents or you can discover new ones; you’re now at the top of your creative and interpretative game; you now have more of a chance to find yourself in lucky circumstances. You come out winning as far as money is concerned. Although don’t talk more than you have to and when angry don’t say things you might regret! You are in excellent physical shape you also enjoy a lot of mental fortitude, but this may lead to impatience, agitation, irritability or stress. Libra, during the first two weeks of January 2019 your attention is mostly focused on family and close loved ones. You feel the need for privacy you could feel preoccupied with money worries of other things going on in the home. But the things change visibly during the last week of January, when the Sun and Venus begin a term of a few weeks that favours luck in love! The month is strongly oriented toward money and possessions. January has a Mars-Jupiter conjunction it will make you take a look at ways to improve your income. This conjunction is very productive, but you shouldn’t spend impulsively and really think if you need the things that you plan to buy. During the first two weeks of the month you might not feel much like yourself. In this transit you are deprived of the harmony you need. But the last weeks again find you in top shape both physically and mentally.

Scorpio, Mars and Jupiter stay in your sign during January 2019 expect passion and bold romantic gestures the month promises a lot of action. If you are ready maybe a New Year proposal could be on its way! During the last week of January, the fire simmers down a little, and things become a bit calmer and more stable; home and family become priorities. On the work front Mars and Jupiter push you to do big things. You have initiative you can now start a big and ambitious project. Things are dynamic when it comes to money, throughout January 2019. You can earn really well, but you have a hard time saving up. You have enough energy for two this month, and you don’t lack confidence. The problem is you tend to overdo it, to push things too far, and make a lot of excess or indiscretions. You’re like a boiling pot. Try to take a step back before you take 40 forward.

Sagittarius, during the first weeks of January 2019 Mercury goes through the final stage of a process that began in November (its retrograde cycle in Sagittarius), certain truths about relationships have come to the fore. Things get back to normal and that can be actually pleasant for some Sagittarians. The second week of January has a lot of potential with money-related or material things. It looks like the main traits of January 2019 are to do with money, money, money - from the need to measure up to bigger responsibilities to initiating more profitable transactions. Now that you’re rid of Saturn’s presence in your sign, your optimism, love of life, and physical energy are on the rise, slowly, until they reach the heights of previous years. However tough you might be, you should take it easier for a couple of weeks.

Morris, an 82 year-old man, went to the doctor to get a physical. A few days later, the doctor saw Morris walking down the street with a gorgeous young woman on his arm. A couple of days later, the doctor spoke to Morris and said, 'You're really doing great, aren't you?' Morris replied, 'Just doing what you said, Doc: 'Get a hot mamma and be cheerful. ‘The doctor said, 'I didn't say that.. I said, 'You've got a heart murmur; be careful.'

Three elderly sisters shared a house together. One evening, the 96-year-old went upstairs to have a bath. As she was stepping into it, she paused. Then she called out to her two sisters, “ Was I getting into the bath or getting our of the bath?” “You old fool,” said the 94-year-old. “I’ll come up and see.” When she got halfway up the stairs, she paused. Then she called downstairs to here other sister, “Was I going up the stairs or coming down them?” Her 92-year-old sister was sitting at the kitchen table drinking a cup of tea, and thought to herself, “I’ll never get that forgetful, knock on wood.” She knocked twice on the table, shook her head and called out, “I’ll be up to help you both as soon as I see who’s at the door.”

An old man went to see the doctor and told him: “I don’t know what’s wrong with me. My right ear is always warmer than my left one.” “I see the problem,” said the doctor. “You need to adjust your toupee.”

A man went to the doctor's. The doctor came in and said, “Well, I've got some good news and some bad news. The bad news is that you have an inoperable brain tumor. The good news is our hospital has just been certified to do

brain transplants and there has been an accident right out front and a young couple was killed and you can have whichever brain you'd like. The man's brain costs $100,000.00 and the woman's brain costs "$30,000.00." The patient could not help but ask, "Why such a large difference between the male and the female brain?" The doctor replied, "The female brain is used."

BE CAREFUL WHICH ONE YOU CHOOSE... Place 1 white marble in one bowl, and place the rest of the marbles in the other bowl (49 whites, & 50 blacks). This way you begin with a 50/50 chance of choosing the bowl with one white marble and living. Even if you choose the other bowl, you still have an almost 50% chance of picking one of the 49 white marbles. There are no guarantees in life, but this is your best bet at surviving.
