FUNDRAISING APPEAL for local photographer

David Toms Friends of well-known Marbella photographer, David Toms, have launched a Support Fund to help finance his rehabilitation and long term goals following a tragic traffic accident. More than just a highly talented photographer, David Toms is a person who has touched a great many people’s lives, from the brides whose special moments he captured to his clients, colleagues and a wide circle of friends here on the Costa del Sol and abroad - and they are rallying around him in support of the person who added colour and humanity to their lives. David is on the long road of physical recuperation but the freak accident has left him with severe injury to the C3, C4 and C5 vertibrae of the spine, as well as broken bones and major neurological damage to the body. As is often the case with spinal injuries, it is hard to know at this point how much movement and independence David will regain, but he is quadriplegic and will need long-term care and rehabilitation. We must remain hopeful for the future as miracles do happen and modern medicine is making great advances, but for the moment the reality is that David will need ongoing care for a long time to come, as well as a specially adapted home, and for this he needs the support of us, his friends and colleagues in Marbella.

If you would like to contribute to the David Toms Spinal Injury Support Fund then please visit:

A Woman’s World

If Women Ruled the World…

• Men would get ‘reputations’ for sleeping around. • PMS would be a legitimate defence in court. • Bars would have metal detectors to weed out men hiding wedding rings in their pockets. • A man would no longer be considered a ‘good catch’ simply because he has a pulse. • All toilet seats would be nailed down. • Men would pay as much attention to their women as to their car. • Overweight men would be encouraged to wear girdles. • Men who design women’s shoes would be forced to wear them. • During a midlife crisis, men would get hot flushes and women would date nineteen-year-olds. • Eating chocolate would be compulsory. • Men would be judged entirely by their looks, women by their a accomplishments. • There would be a cure for stretch marks. • Shopping would be considered an aerobic activity. • Any ‘gas producing’ foods could not be consummed within 2 hours of bed time.

8

Such hard work…

After a couple had a huge argument, they ended up not talking to each other for days. Finally, on the third day, he asked where one of his shirts was.... "Oh," she said, "So now you're speaking to me." He looked confused. "What are you talking about?"

"Haven't you noticed I haven't spoken to you for three days? “She challenged.

"No," he said, "I just, thought we were getting along."

I'M A CELEBRITY 2016: Who's rumoured for the jungle? While we got no hint as to who will actually be on the new series the first trailer was shown last month, there have been rumours aplenty circulating in recent weeks. Among those tipped to head Down Under are TOWIE's Kate Wright, former boxing champion Tyson Fury, Loose Women panellist Ayda Field, ex-Countdown star Carol Vorderman, Gogglebox's Scarlett Moffatt, comedian Danny Baker the 59-year-old is said to have landed a six-figure deal, as well as Strictly Come Dancing rivals Aliona Vilani and Ola Jordan. But when ‘I'm A Celebrity’ airs on ITV there is a likelihood they will be living off beans, rice and testicles also creepy crawlies will be involved, well a lot… ITV2 have announced big changes for the spin-off show, the newly named I'm A Celebrity: Extra Camp. Vicky Pattison, Chris Ramsey are joining the team, the show's official Twitter announced on Thursday morning, while Joe Swash will be joined by his girlfriend and former Jungle Queen Stacey Solomon. Producers are staying pretty tight-lipped about the main show. An exact air date will be announced by ITV closer to transmission, but in previous years the show has begun on a Sunday in the middle of November. IS THIS THE END OF KIM KARDASHIAN? She has all but vanished from public life following her terrifying Paris robbery, but some reports are suggesting that this is the end of Kim’s public life as we know it. While staying in Paris for Fashion Week, the star was held at gunpoint and thieves stole millions of pounds worth of jewellery, including her diamond ring. Since then, she’s been absent from social media and has made no public appearances. And, allegedly, this is going to continue. A source told People magazine: ‘She has zero desire to resume her old life. Kim is still figuring out what she wants to do.’

SHERLOCK TO BE A DAD FOR THE 2ND TIME... Benedict Cumberbatch and wife Sophie Hunter are expecting again! The pair only actually made their first public appearance together in June 2014, after six years together. Last month it was revealed that baby number two is on its way... RHOBH SEASON SEVEN… Eden Sassoon has been confirmed as the latest addition to the cast of Real Housewives of Beverly Hills. She will join returning Bravo cast members Lisa Vanderpump, Eileen Davidson, Lisa Rinna and Kyle Richards. Meanwhile, Yolanda Foster and Kathryn Edwards both confirmed they would not be featured on the upcoming season. The girls enjoyed a holiday in Mexico last month. PETER ANDRE TELLS KATIE PRICE: ‘I’LL HELP YOU SAVE YOUR MARRIAGE!’...They haven’t been on the best of terms since they split in

2009, but in a strange turn of events, Peter Andre is trying to help keep ex-wife Katie Price and her current husband Kieran Hayler stay together for the sake of the kids. Although Katie denied she and Scotty are anything other than mates, she announced that she’d be taking a break away from the spotlight last month. Pete has offered to take the children whenever, so Kate and Kieran can go away for a romantic holiday, and he’ll continue to offer all the support he can through this rough patch.

You think you’ve got problems...

Two men meet at a bus stop and strike up a conversation.

One of the keeps complaining about his families’ problems.

Finally, the other man said….

“You think you have family problems? Listen to my situation. A few years ago I met a young widow with a grown-up daughter and we got married”. “Later my father married my step daughter. That made my stepdaughter my stepmother-in-law and my father-in-law. Then the daughter of my wife, my stepmother, had a son. This boy was my half-brother because he was my father’s son, but he was also the son of my wife’s daughter, which made him my wife’s grandson. That made me the grandfather of my half–brother. “This was nothing until my wife and I had a son. Now the half-sister of my son, my stepmother, is also the grandmother.” “This makes my father the brotherin-law of my child, whose stepsister is my fathers wife, I’m my stepmothers brother-in-law, my wife is her own child’s aunt, my son is my fathers nephew and I’m my own grandfather!”

Winter Warmers

Well we have had it very good up until now but winter is definitely here... Oh the feel of icy marble beneath your feet when you get up in the morning! Spanish properties can feel much colder that those of our home countries as here the properties tend to cater for the warmer months, with finer window dressings and tiled or marble floors. We could insulate walls but this may be a larger job than you would prefer to undertake especially if your property is just a holiday home and used mainly in the summer.

Just the look of a rug

on the floor instantly gives a warmer feel and to have a small bedside rug to step onto can make all the difference until you find your slippers in the night. Remember your rugs can be rolled up and put away in the summer when they are not needed. www.masalgueiro.pt has a beautiful range of rugs from short piles to shaggy, wool, cotton and silk which are beautiful materials and lovely to walk on, however, cleaning is not always easy. Perhaps a mixture of synthetic and natural fibers will be your choice. There are so many sizes and styles to choose from If you are not sure of the style or size, we at White Design Company are happy for you to try them in your property before you commit to any particular one. This is only one of our suppliers for rugs, we have many more in stock.

Animal prints are also back

in fashion. Look for the skins collection with MA Salgueiro, original sheepskin, leather and original cow skin. Last but not least there is also a great collection of outdoor rugs particularly useful in areas with glass curtains.

Concerning your windows, Think about layering

we lose so much heat around the window area. We can add a heavier curtain or line the ones you already have. The lining can often be added temporarily if need be. We don’t always have the storage space for winter and summer curtains, layering is another idea, if it is feasible. We have many suggestions and we can accommodate for whatever look you prefer. Visit the showroom in La Cala de Mijas, situated between the BP petrol station and the famacia, opposite Lidl and we can discuss your requirement.

Incredibly Weird Facts...

The katzenklavier (“cat piano”)

The longest time between two twins being born is 87 days. The world’s deepest postbox is in Susami Bay in Japan. It’s 10 metres underwater. In 2007, an American man named Corey Taylor tried to fake his own death in order to get out of his cell phone contract without paying a fee. It didn’t work. The oldest condoms ever found date back to the 1640s (they were found in a cesspit at Dudley Castle), and were made from animal and fish intestines. In 1923, jockey Frank Hayes won a race at Belmont Park in New York despite being dead: He suffered a heart attack mid-race, but his body stayed in the saddle until his horse crossed the line for a 20–1 outsider victory. Everyone has a unique tongue print, just like fingerprints. Most Muppets are left-handed. (Because most Muppeteers are right-handed, so they operate the head with their favoured hand.) Female kangaroos have three vaginas. Light doesn’t necessarily travel at the speed of light. The slowest ever recorded light was moving at is 38 mph. Casu marzu is a Sardinian cheese that contains live maggots. The maggots can jump up to five inches out of cheese while you’re eating it, so it’s a good idea to shield it with your hand to stop them jumping into your eyes.

AMessage FromTheQueen

To the citizens of the United States of America from Her Sovereign Majesty Queen Elizabeth II. In light of your failure to nominate competent candidates for President of the USA and thus to govern yourselves, we hereby give notice of the revocation of your independence, effective immediately. Her Sovereign Majesty Queen Elizabeth II will resume monarchical duties over all states, commonwealths, and territories (except North Dakota, which she does not fancy). Your new Prime Minister will appoint a Governor for America without the need for further elections. Congress and the Senate will be disbanded. A questionnaire may be circulated next year to determine whether any of you noticed. To aid in the transition to a British Crown dependency, the following rules are introduced with immediate effect:

1. The letter 'U' will be reinstated in words such as 'colour,' 'favour,' 'labour' and 'neighbour.' Likewise, you will learn to spell 'doughnut' without skipping half the letters, and the suffix '-ize' will be replaced by the suffix '-ise.' Generally, you will be expected to raise your vocabulary to acceptable levels. (look up 'vocabulary').

2. Using the same twenty-seven words interspersed with filler noises such as ''like' and 'you know' is an unacceptable and inefficient form of communication. There is no such thing as U.S. English. We will let Microsoft know on your behalf. The Microsoft spell-checker will be adjusted to take into account the reinstated letter 'u'' and the elimination of '-ize.' 3. July 4th will no longer be celebrated as a holiday. 4. You will learn to resolve personal issues without using guns, lawyers, or therapists. The fact that you need so many lawyers and therapists shows that you're not quite ready to be independent. Guns should only be used for shooting grouse. If you can't sort things out without suing someone or speaking to a therapist, then you're not ready to shoot grouse. 5. Therefore, you will no longer be allowed to own or carry anything more dangerous than a vegetable peeler. Although a permit will be required if you wish to carry a vegetable peeler in public. 24

i

November 2016 Costa Link Magazine.qxp_Editorial Layout 24/10/16 11:51 am Page 25

6. All intersections will be replaced with roundabouts, and you will start driving on the left side with immediate effect. At the same time, you will go metric with immediate effect and without the benefit of conversion tables. Both roundabouts and metrication will help you understand the British sense of humour. 7. The former USA will adopt UK prices on petrol (which you have been calling gasoline) of roughly $10/US gallon. Get used to it. 8. You will learn to make real chips. Those things you call French fries are not real chips, and those things you insist on calling potato chips are properly called crisps. Real chips are thick cut, fried in animal fat, and dressed not with cats urine but with vinegar. 9. The cold, tasteless stuff you insist on calling beer is not actually beer at all. Henceforth, only proper British Bitter will be referred to as beer, and European brews of known and accepted provenance will be referred to as Lager. South African beer is also acceptable, as they are pound for pound the greatest sporting nation on earth and it can only be due to the beer. They are also part of the British Commonwealth - see what it did for them. American brands will be referred to as Near-Frozen Gnat's Urine, so that all can be sold without risk of further confusion. 10. Hollywood will be required occasionally to cast English actors as good guys. Hollywood will also be required to cast English actors to play English characters. Watching Dick Van Dyke attempt at the English dialect in Mary Poppins was an experience akin to having one's ears removed with a cheese grater. 11. You will cease playing American football. There is only one kind of proper football; you call it soccer. Those of you brave enough will, in time, be allowed to play rugby (which has some similarities to American football, but does not involve stopping for a rest every twenty seconds or wearing full kevlar body armour like a bunch of nancies). 12. Further, you will stop playing baseball. It is not reasonable to host an event called the World Series for a game which is not played outside of America. Since only 2.1% of you are aware there is a world beyond your borders, your error is understandable. You will learn cricket and we will let you face the South Africans first to take the sting out of their deliveries. 13. An internal revenue agent (i.e. tax collector) from Her Majesty's Government will be with you shortly to ensure the acquisition of all monies due (backdated to 1776). 14. Daily Tea Time begins promptly at 4 p.m. with proper cups, with saucers, and never mugs, with high quality biscuits (cookies) and cakes; plus strawberries (with cream) when in season.

God Save the Queen! ii

Incredibly Weird Facts...

The katzenklavier (“cat piano”)

The loneliest creature on Earth is a whale who has been calling out for a mate for over two decades — but whose high-pitched voice is so different from the other whales that they never respond. During World War II, the crew of the British submarine HMS Trident kept a fully grown reindeer called Pollyanna aboard their vessel for six weeks (it was a gift from the Russians). The first man to urinate on the moon was Buzz Aldrin. Experiments show that male rhesus macaque monkeys will pay to look at pictures of female rhesus macaques’ bottoms.. In 1567, the man said to have the longest beard in the world died after he tripped over his beard running away from a fire. The Dance Fever of 1518 was a month-long plague of inexplicable dancing in Strasbourg, in which hundreds of people danced for about a month for no apparent reason. Several of them danced themselves to death. The katzenklavier (“cat piano”) was a musical instrument made out of cats. Designed by 17th-century German scholar Athanasius Kircher, it consisted of a row of caged cats with different voice pitches, who could be “played” by a keyboardist driving nails into their tails.

A little old lady was walking down the street dragging two large plastic garbage bags behind her. One of the bags was ripped, and every once in a while, a twentydollar bill fell out on the sidewalk. Noticing this, a policeman stopped her and said, "Ma'am, there are twenty-dollar

bills falling out of that bag."

"Oh, really? Darn it!" said the little old lady. "I'd better go back and see if I can find them! Thanks for telling me, Officer."

"Well now, not so fast," said the cop, "where did you get all that money? You didn't steal it, did you?" "Oh, no, no," said the old lady. "You see, my back yard is right next to the football stadium parking lot. On game days, a lot of fans come and pee through a knot in the fence, right into my flower garden. It used to really tick me off. Kills the flowers, you know?" The old woman continued, "Then I thought,

'why not make the best of it?' So now on game days, I stand behind the fence by the knot hole, real quiet with my hedge clippers. Every time some guy sticks his pecker through my fence, I surprise him, grab hold of it and say, 'OK buddy, give me $20 or it comes off!"

A Very Small Pianist...

A guy walks into a tavern. As he walked up to the bar he noticed a twelve-inch man

playing the piano, so he asked the bartender, "What's that all about?" The bartender told him he that would tell him later.

“Yes I am a very small Pianist”...

So the guy asked the bartender for a drink. The bartender said, "Before you get your drink, you get to rub the magic beer bottle and make one wish." "Okay," said the guy. He went over to the magic beer bottle and rubbed it. Poof. Out came a genie. The genie, of course, said, "You have one wish." The guy thought about it and then wished for a million bucks. A cloud of smoke filled the room, and then both the genie and the guy disappeared.

In a few minutes, the guy reappeared back in the bar with a million ducks all around him. The guy was astounded and said to the bartender,

"Hey! I didn't want a million ducks." The bartender replied, "Do you honestly think I wanted a twelve-inch Pianist?"

A Man’s World

THE RAVAGES OF TIME…

(Old age explained man style!) If my body was a car, this is the time I would be thinking about trading it in for a newer model. I've got bumps and dents and scratches in my finish and my paint job is getting a little dull... But that's not the worst of it. My headlights are out of focus, And it's especially hard to see things up close. My traction is not as graceful as it once was. I slip and slide and skid and bump into things even in the best of weather. My whitewalls are stained with varicose veins. It takes me hours to reach my maximum speed. My fuel rate burns inefficiently. But here's the worst of it. Almost every time I sneeze, cough or sputter, Either My Radiator Leaks or My Exhaust Backfires!

THE RAVAGES OF TIME, TAKE TWO…

I phoned a really..... gorgeous ex-girlfriend of mine the other day. We lost track of time, chatting about the wild nights we used to enjoy together 20 years ago. I couldn't BELIEVE it when she asked if I'd like to meet up and maybe rekindle a little of that magic. "Wow!" I said "I don't know if I could keep pace with you now! I'm a bit older and a bit balder than when you last saw me!" She giggled and said she was sure I'd meet the challenge. "Yeah," I said, "Just so long as you don't mind a man with a waistband that's a few inches wider these days!" She laughed and told me to stop being so silly. She teased me, saying she thought tubby bald men were cute. "Anyway", she said, "I've put on a couple of pounds myself!" So I hung up...

HIGH BLOOD PRESSURE

High blood pressure, or hypertension, rarely has noticeable symptoms. But if untreated, it increases your risk of serious problems such as heart attacks and strokes. More than one in four adults have high blood pressure, although many won't realise it. The only way to find out if your blood pressure is high is to have your blood pressure checked

WHAT IS HIGH BLOOD PRESSURE?

Blood pressure is recorded with two numbers. The systolic pressure (higher number) is the force at which your heart pumps blood around your body. The diastolic pressure (lower number) is the resistance to the blood flow in the blood vessels. They're both measured in millimetres of mercury (mmHg). As a general guide: • High blood pressure is considered to be 140/90mmHg or higher. • Ideal blood pressure is considered to be between 90/60mmHg and 120/80mmHg. • Low blood pressure is considered to be 90/60mmHg or lower. A blood pressure reading between 120 / 80mmHg and 140 / 90mmHg could mean you're at risk of developing high blood pressure if you don't take steps to keep your blood pressure under control.

RISKS OF HIGH BLOOD PRESSURE

If your blood pressure is too high, it puts extra strain on your blood vessels, heart and other organs, such as the brain, kidneys and eyes. Persistent high blood pressure can increase your risk of a number of serious and potentially life-threatening conditions, such as: • Heart disease • Heart attacks • Strokes • Heart failure • Peripheral arterial disease • Aortic aneurysms • Kidney disease • Vascular dementia If you have high blood pressure, reducing it even a small amount can help lower your risk of these conditions.

CHECK YOUR BLOOD PRESSURE

The only way of knowing whether you have high blood pressure is to have a blood pressure test. All adults over 40 are advised to have their blood pressure checked at least every five years. Getting this done is easy and could save your life. You can get your blood pressure tested at a number of places, including: • At your Doctors surgery • At some pharmacies

48

CAUSES OF HIGH BLOOD PRESSURE

It's not always clear what causes high blood pressure, but certain things can increase your risk. You're at an increased risk of high blood pressure if you: • Are over the age of 65 • Are overweight or obese • Have a relative with high blood pressure • Eat too much salt and don't eat enough fruit and veg • Don’t do enough exercise • Drink too much alcohol or coffee • Smoke • Don’t get much sleep or have disturbed sleep Making healthy lifestyle changes can help reduce your chances of getting high blood pressure and help lower your blood pressure if it's already high.

REDUCE YOUR BLOOD PRESSURE

The following lifestyle changes can help prevent and lower high blood pressure: • Reduce the amount of salt you eat and • Have a generally healthy diet • Cut back on alcohol if you drink too much • Lose weight if you're overweight • Exercise regularly • Cut down on caffeine • Stop smoking • Try to get at least six hours of sleep a night Some people with high blood pressure may also need to take one or more medicines to stop their blood pressure getting too high.

KEEP HEALTHY THIS WINTER…

With a slightly damp month in October it is good to start preparing for the winter months now this is our A to Z guide for better health this winter. There are ways you can help avoid those coughs, colds and bugs that seem to be all around us this season.

BIN IT...!

Don’t leave dirty tissues or hankies lying around - it can also spread your cold. When you cough, sneeze or blow your nose the secretions that end up in your hanky or tissue are teeming with the virus that’s making you sick. These viruses can survive for some time once they leave your body, so when you leave a tissue for someone else to pick up you’re actually leaving a little virus bomb to go infect someone else’s hands. So throw away any used tissues and wash your hands straight away.

EAT FRUIT

Fruits especially the berries (blueberries, blackberries, cherries, strawberries) are naturally high in vitamin C, bioflavonoids and antioxidants. These all help with your immunity levels. Other sources are apricots, peppers, kiwi fruit and broccoli.

ECHINACEA

Is a fabulous herb which ‘modulates’ the immune system, which simply means that it helps to teach it what to do, thereby rebalancing it, meaning it can function better. Echinacea is also a powerful lymphatic cleanser… Echinacea stimulates the overall activity of the cells responsible for fighting all kinds of infection.

mechanisms. Infection rapidly depletes the normal levels of vitamin C. Remember that bugs stay active on a surface so avoid touching too many public places such as escalator rails or cash point surfaces.

VITAMIN D3

We rely on the action of sun on our skin for our main source of vitamin D, so our levels can go down when the days get shorter and darker. Most of us associate vitamin D with ensuring adequate absorption of calcium for our bones (which is one of its many important functions), but it also plays a crucial role in the normal functioning of the immune system. Many of us can become deficient in vitamin D over the winter because even when outdoors with some skin exposed, very little vitamin D is produced due to the angle of the sun during the winter months. A daily dose of vitamin D3 can therefore help to fortify the immune system through the colder months.

SLEEP WELL

Your immune system helps you fight off common infections. Poor sleep and insomnia can affect our immune system so make sure you get plenty of rest.

STAY ACTIVE

When its cold outside its difficult to get out there and do some exercise but try to! Research has shown that exerIt's vital to keep your workout regimen up during winter, cise is another way to help your immunity. with a recent study showing that a moderate level of reg- STAY CONNECTED ular exercise has a long-term cumulative effect on Socialising helps strengthen your immune system by immune response. MUSCLE CARS...

Looking at all the muscle cars that they are reproducing in America brings back some memories, but do you remember any of these? Continued from last month... Just three ZL-1 engine block Corvettes with its 427 cubic inch engine could produce about 500 hp. At $10,771, about $3000 more than normal Corvette models, they were made solely for Chevrolet Staff.

The Chevrolet Chevelle LS6 had an 402 cubic inch engine or a 440 cubic inch engine. The later upgrade added 100 horsepower, producing 560 horsepower in total. Only 20 were produced. Only 21 convertible Hemi Cuda were manufactured by Plmouth because of the costliness of the Hemi engine upgrade of $871.

The Plymouth GTX’s amazing feature of getting 0 to 60 in just 4.8 seconds was quite a catch. The “Gentleman’s Muscle Car” was known “The Elephant” for its extreme strength and power.

The Camaro ZL-1 engine claimed to produce 430 hp, although it actually produced about 560 hp. Weighing just 500 pounds, with it’s aluminum body. 20 of the first produced cars were used by professional racers while the rest ones were put on sale at a cost of $7,200.

A Classic Battenburg.. . Ingredients:

•175g (6oz) unsalted butter, really soft, + extra to grease tin •175g (6oz) self-raising flour •½tsp baking powder •A pinch of salt •175g (6oz) caster sugar •3 eggs, beaten •1tsp vanilla bean paste or vanilla extract •1-2tbsp milk •Pink (or red) food colouring •4tbsp apricot jam •Icing sugar, to dust •250g (9oz) shop-bought marzipan

56

1) Preheat the oven to 180°C/fan 160°C/gas 4. Butter a 20cm (8in) square cake tin and line the base and sides with baking parchment. Cut a rectangular strip of parchment about 30cm x 20cm (12in x 8in), to make the divider between the 2 sponge colours so they can be cooked at the same time. Lay it flat and then pinch up a pleat in the centre, which should be about 8cm (3in) high. Place it in the bottom of the tin with the pleat standing up, dividing the tin in half. 2) Sift the flour, baking powder and salt into a bowl, then add the butter, sugar, eggs and vanilla. Mix until just combined, then stir in the milk. 3) Weigh the batter and place half in one side of the tin, then add the food colouring to the other half, stir and spoon into the other side of the tin. Bake for 30-35 minutes until the cake springs back to the touch or a skewer comes out clean. Leave in the tin for a few minutes, then turn onto a wire rack to cool. 4) Level the top surfaces if necessary and slice each colour in half lengthways to make 2 equal strips. Trim the edges to neaten. You will have 4 equal lengths of cake – 2 pink and 2 natural. Warm the jam in a pan and sieve to remove lumps. 5) Use the jam to sandwich together 1 pink and 1 yellow strip of cake, lengthways, then more jam to sandwich the other layers on top, alternating the colours for a chequerboard effect. Dust your worktop with icing sugar and roll out the marzipan to a rectangle the length of the cake and wide enough to wrap around all 4 sides. 6) Brush with jam, place the cake on top and wrap the marzipan around, pressing to seal the join. Turn over so the join is hidden, trim off any excess and score a criss-cross pattern on top.

FACT THREE: Although Guy Fawkes wasn't the main conspirator in the Gunpowder Plot, he probably had one of the most important roles. A cellar below the Houses of Parliament was rented by the members of the plot which was filled with 36 barrels of gunpowder. There was enough gunpowder to completely destroy the building and caused damage to buildings within a one mile radius of it. FINANCIAL NEWS The Euro & World Round Up

2016 THE LAST QUARTER...

Halloween gone, next is bonfire night then it’s Christmas…. Now you’re feeling good. Halloween left its mark on the pound as without doubt over the last couple of weeks the pound has been spooked and seen its value against the dollar and the euro fall to lows not seen for many a year I hope we don’t see gunpowder treason and plot. When reading this if you are one of our readers who lives in the UK and spends time in Spain whatever you are planning its likely to cost you more because the pound isn’t buying as many euros. The benefit for those living in Spain and visiting the UK or selling Spanish property and sending the money back to the UK is that you will be better off as your euro will buy you more pounds. In the UK, prices are rising and of course this is an unavoidable result when your economy is drastically skewed towards importing most of its goods from abroad and your currency suddenly weakens heavily in a short period of time. Whilst the supermarket wars are making them all drive down their margins to remain competitive, they cannot operate at a loss and will probably have to raise prices soon just in time for the Christmas spending. Inflation which has almost been non existent is now happening in the UK and is a measure of price change, main central banks,

60

such as the Bank of England, tend to aim for a 2% rate of inflation each year. It is enough to keep people spending rather than saving and keep the economy ticking over, and shows economic growth and health providing price rises are sustainable. The UK and the world as a whole have been struggling with inflation for some time, before the Leave Vote UK inflation for the year was moored around 0.6%, yet this has now almost doubled to 1% and is set to improve further. The plus side of inflation linked particularly to wage rises is that people in the UK will be spending more and that tends to lead to greater confidence in UK growth which makes it less likely that there will be a further cut in interest rates. With average house prices still on the rise showing a growth of be around 8.4% in August and the latest unemployment figures showing a fall, the original doom and gloom following the leave vote may just start disappearing and bring back some stability to see the pound recover albeit slowly. So to make the most of your money whether sending it back to the UK or wanting to transfer pounds into euros talk to a currency broker who will be able to provide guidance and make sure you have access to the best exchange rates around. A look at what's in store for you during November 2016...

Capricorn

Aquarius

Aquarians, November 2016 is divided in two intervals with a different emotional tone. The first (actually, up until November 11th) is benefic for you. All heavenly bodies that are relevant to your love life are well placed: the Sun and Mercury are at zenith in strong positions so you’re in charge. Venus, planet of love is in a lucky place, making sure to offer you advantageous circumstances for love. The second and third weeks of November 2016 aren’t that bad, but can be sprinkled here and there with difficulties or disappointments. During November 2016, your path to professional success is wide open. When it comes to money, you’re doing wonderfully. During November 2016 you’re in good shape and have so many plans that your enthusiasm seems to energize you even more. Extra strength and vitality help you beginning with the second week, when Mars is in Aquarius in your skies.

Pisces

Pisces, because Mercury is in your sign for the first part of November 2016 it might keep you interested in a relationship with someone from afar or with whom you share spiritual beliefs or interests. At the same time, Venus raises the bar, directing your choices toward people worthy of esteem. Mercury takes over in that regard and carries things on until end of month. The astral configuration could mean that there are some mixes between your love life and career. Relations have a particular impact your professional life during the month. Professional decisions influenced by emotional elements, the ability to make your way with the help of connections. Your finances depend now on others (family, banks etc.) but you do quite well. Sit down quietly and work slowly on a well-put-together financial plan for a longer term!

Aries

Aries, this November 2016 promises to be a month of great possibilities. The gods are providing for you whatever you want you can have: love, happiness, health and money the prospects are immense. On the work front this month is favorable for you. First of all because Saturn, Jupiter Venus are all in your sign. The three planets will help your work-based partnerships or social connections. You might have the support of your loved one or of someone who has certain feelings for you. You can gain quite a lot of money this month, although interactions with others are very significant: including collaborations and projects with co-workers etc… You are feeling full of vigor this month and very robust for the duration of the month, because Mars is in an advantageous position. You shouldn’t neglect your issues or postpone resolving them.

Taurus

Gemini 66

Capricorn, passionate Mars will be in your skies for the first part of the month you will be hotblooded and impulsive it may bring with it intense affairs or maybe intense arguments. Your mood becomes a lot more peaceful after the 12th. Venus is then in your sign bringing with it favourable opportunities of enjoying happiness in your love life. Enjoy the moment! This month is a great one for your career too. First, Jupiter’s positive power extends its protective wing over you. Mars then gives you a very productive month. Venus’ then announces the possibility of new contracts or partnerships that are useful professionally. Things don’t always go easily at work, but with perseverance and patience, you can achieve special things.

Taurus, with the Sun in your sign November 21st 2016 your love life is your priority. Matters of the heart are your main concern; you only have eyes for your loved one. You go through a term during which your partner becomes your focus, including long-lasting relationships. On the work front Jupiter is bringing promise of new opportunities. November 2016 seems to be a month of making things happen, during which luck should be used wisely. Mars also gets involved this month offering you many victories and successes. Financially, during November only initiatives based on careful analysis and well-thought strategies are favoured. You’ll enjoy great resilience and energy; during November 2016 you shouldn’t neglect your health. You should avoid excess and follow the doctor’s orders.

Gemini, during this month relationships are defiantly improved. Saturn and Jupiter will be in you sign and this will last until October next year. You’ll be feeling more positive and that in turn will bring more affection from your loved ones if you are single now is a great time to make new lasting connections. You might have to go beyond a barrier, overcome an obstacle in order to get to where you want to go. But you’ll get there. November 2016 is a month of serious work and intense effort, but during which you can stand out and clearly mark the scope of your competency. Your earning potential this month will depend greatly on partnerships and collaborations. Keep an eye on your health this month the bottom line is you need to be careful, not take risks try to change your lifestyle for the better!

Cancer

Leo

Virgo

Libra

Scorpio

Sagittarius

Cancer, during recent years romance has been rather scarce. Saturn is making its presence known this month though. Even if it won’t be raining with roses, this month will be full of opportunity. Enjoy this window of happiness and use it wisely to get what you want! November 2016 is a very active month financially. Mars and the Sun will be driving initiative in business etc. Although if could lead to rushed or impulsive decisions. Keep in mind that bets, speculations or other attempts at earning easy money don’t work or carry the risk of dire loss. Work remains the only safe mean of earning money during November 2016. You should have great physical endurance throughout November 2016, and your morale is pretty good too. Why not use all that extra stamina to great affect and climb a mountain of two! Leo, expect your relationships to go through a highly dynamic term during November 2016. On the 12th, Mars enters your skies it is thirsty for action and full of conquering drive. Considering the fact that you, as a Leo, have a somewhat hot temper, you’d do well to temper your outbursts and spend the energy given by Mars through energetic and constructive action rather than unpleasant arguments. On the work front November stands out you’ll be getting involved in joint projects or coordinating activities that involve other people. Again there’s a note of conflict that, if allowed to get out of control, can disturb your work or business partnerships. In regard to money, you need to pay more attention and be more realistic. You’ll be feeling on top form for the last part of the month during the first part take care and get to the Doctor if you need too. Virgo, be careful regarding money during November 2016. Priorities for your home life should be up for review. Think towards financial security. On the work front the first week of the month sees you in a lot of meetings and negotiations. During the mid to the end of the month the rhythm starts to pick up, the number of tasks increases, they become tougher or more urgent. Things become busier decisions that need to be taken. Fortunately work is productive and profitable. It might have to do with real-estate buying or selling and contract work. Steer clear of financial speculations, don’t overspend on pleasure, and don’t go looking for bargains! Mars gives you lots of energy this month spend it well. Libra, November 2016 looks pretty interesting for you. On November 9th, Mars will spark the fire of love in you; if you are single it’s a great time to meet that special someone or maybe to embark on a passing adventure. If you are in a relationship then the fires will be reignited. November 2016 is a very active month, and you can get a lot done...and make lots of money! The Sun is in your sign until November 21st, while Mars enters a lucky house on November 9th, where it makes a favourable aspect with Jupiter. In other words: AN AMAZING MONTH FOR YOU! Interest seems to focus around family, home or real-estate, but the area registers pressure and stress. You’re full of vitality but avoid exaggerating and, if you feel like taking on an adventure, don’t forget to keep yourself safe! Scorpio, during November 2016 you think about love a lot, but when it comes to practice it’s not looking that good. Venus spends the first week of November in your sign but it brings with it practical perspective, lacking romance. In order for something interesting to happen, you need to meet your partner on the same intellectual wavelength. A romantic getaway or traveling for love might come your way. On the work front November 2016 is good for adding things up, accounting and financial plans. Mercury and Saturn enter your sign on the 12th. Now would be a good time to come up with a new strategy related to profitability of work. Regardless of the topic, you sweet-talk and are convincing, so you can negotiate very much in your interest. You feel great this month. Morale is improving day by day. Sagittarius, the first week of November 2016 might be a little disappointing in terms of love/relationships. What’s to blame is your tendency toward being more reticent and demanding despite your natural attitude. Careful, this behavior diminishes your power of seduction! The second part of the month things seem to improve, because Mercury and Mars get in on the action and relax a benevolent position. To be honest, you don’t really feel like working this month. Luckily, things start to get better later in the month, and a helping hand seems to come out of the blue. You need to set and evaluate objectives this will get your momentum going again. During November 2016 your intellect and ability to communicate are exceptional. Use them!

WatchingThe Detectives...

A policeman was interrogating 3 blondes who were training to become detectives. To test their skills in recognising a suspect, he shows the first blonde a picture for 5 seconds and then hides it. "This is your suspect, how would you recognise him?" The first blonde answers, "That's easy, we'll catch him fast because he only has one eye!" The policeman says, "Well...uh...that's because the picture shows his profile." (Side pose...) Slightly flustered by this ridiculous response, he flashes the picture for 5 seconds at the second blonde and asks her, "This is your suspect, how would you recognise him?" The second blonde giggles, flips her hair and says, "Ha! He'd be too easy to catch because he only has one ear!" The policeman angrily responds, "For God's sake, What's the matter with you two?? Of course only one eye and one ear are SHOWING because it's a picture of his profile!! Is that the best answer you can come up with?!?" Extremely frustrated at this point, he shows the picture to the third blonde and in a very testy voice asks, "Now think hard before giving me a stupid answer. This is your suspect, how would you recognise him??" The blonde looks at the picture intently for a moment and says, "Hmmmm...the suspect wears contact lenses..." The policeman is surprised and speechless... "Wow! I can't believe it ... it's TRUE! The suspect does in fact wear contact lenses. Good work! How were you able to make such an astute observation??" "That's easy," the blonde replied. "He can't wear regular glasses because he only has one eye and one ear!!”

The sergeant-major growled at a young soldier: ‘Jenkins, I didn’t see you at camouflage training this morning!’ The soldier replied: ‘Thank you very much, sir.’ An elephant was walking through the jungle, but with each step he took he trampled dozens of ants under his huge feet. The ants became so angry that they started crawling up the elephant’s body, hell bent on revenge. As the elephant felt their presence on his skin, he shook his body, causing all of the ants except one to plunge to the ground. This one ant clung on bravely to the elephant’s neck while all the ants on the ground started to yell: “Strangle him! Strangle him!”

Mildred was a 93 year-old woman who was particularly despondent over the recent death of her husband Earl. She decided that she would just kill herself and join him in death. Thinking that it would be best to get it over with quickly, she took out Earl's old Army pistol and made the decision to shoot herself in the heart since it was so badly broken in the first place. Not wanting to miss the vital organ and become paralyzed, she called her doctor's office to inquire as to just exactly where the heart would be. "On a woman," the doctor said, "your heart would be just below your left breast." Later that night, Mildred was admitted to the hospital with a gunshot wound to her left knee.

A FIREMAN came home from work one day and told his wife, "You know, we have a wonderful system at the fire station: BELL 1 rings and we all put on our jackets, BELL 2 rings and we all slide down the pole, BELL 3 rings and we're on the fire truck ready to go.

"From now on when I say BELL 1... I want you to strip naked. When I say BELL 2... I want you to jump in bed... And when I say BELL 3 We are going to make love all night.

"The next night he came home from work & yelled " BELL 1!" The wife took all her clothes off. When he yelled "BELL 2!”, the wife jumped into bed. When he yelled " BELL 3!", they began making love. After a few minutes the wife yelled "BELL 4!" "What the hell is BELL 4?" asked the husband? "ROLL OUT MORE HOSE," she replied "YOU'RE NOWHERE NEAR THE FIRE."
