A Spooky Halloween Story‌ From An English Graveyard One dark, windy Halloween night...

Just outside Doncaster in Yorkshire, England, Neil, the town drunk was meandering his way home after the pub had closed. Somehow Neil got turned around and ended up walking through the graveyard in St Mary's church instead of taking the Tadcaster road home. The wind howled louder and Neil thought he could hear a voice calling his name. Suddenly, the ground opened up in front of him, and he fell down, down into an open grave. He could still hear the voice clearer and louder now, calling to him. Neil knew it was Satan, coming for him just like the vicar had said, on account of him being the town drunk. The hole was very deep and inside it was pitch black. His eyes adjusted to the darkness and after a few moments, and he made out a form sitting in the darkness with him. It called his name, and he scrambled away in fear, trying to climb out of that terrible grave. Then the figure spoke to him, 'You can't get out,' it moaned. Neil gave a shout of pure terror and leapt straight up in the air, caught the edge of the hole in his hands, and scrambling out for his very life, he ran for home as fast as he could go. Inside the open grave, his neighbour Tony sighed in resignation. He, too, had fallen into the hole a few minutes before his friend and had thought that together they might help each other climb out. Now he was going to have to wait until All Saints Day morning and get the gravedigger to bring him a ladder.

GADGETS &Gizmo’s Apple has unveiled three new iPhones. The iPhone X: A beautiful new flagship, complete with all-glass front, no home button and a 5.8 inch screen, The iPhone 8 and The iPhone 8 Plus which are upgrades of the 7 and 7 Plus. They all have a Samsung S8-inspired glass-backed look, and Apple’s True Tone tech from the iPad Pros so their screens adjust themselves according to the light. The new processor is the fastest chip Apple’s ever built and are now able to charge wirelessly. They all have an HD retina display and the X even has face recognition to replace the fingerprint!

Google has teamed up with Raspberry Pi to help tinkerers build their own screenless, disembodied version of the Internet, with the AIY Projects kit. AIY stands for ‘Artificial Intelligence Yourself’, it includes a Google Voice accessory board, stereo mic board, wires and an arcade style button, all of which need to be added to a Raspberry Pi 3 (not included). Press that button and ask your questions, but this is still a voice assistant for about 50€.

Jaybird's first pair of Wireless earphones are called Run, designed for wearing in the gym these sweat-resistant buds with secure-fit wings to stop them falling out whilst on a workout and last 12 hours between charges. The buttons for controlling playback, Siri or Google Assistant are handy when you're working out without your phone in your hand.

All the latest in the world of tech and gaming... Sometimes the world of tech seems to go mad - The New Anthouse Pet Companion is a smart robot that’ll keep your pet entertained when you’re not in the house. Looking like a robot wars contender, it can livestream video to your phone and you can talk to your pooch like through the voice app. It will even dispense treats and has a mini tennis ball launcher.

Most Electric bikes have a big battery pack bolted onto the frame, but Orbea has a super-slim 250wh battery fitted inside the frame, and hooked up to a 250w motor hidden inside the rear hub. Looking just like a pedal cycle, push the power button and suddenly you're good for 75km of assisted range. Pop a spare battery in the bottle holder and you'll manage 250km. With only 3.5kg of extra weight, prices start from 1799€ for the entry-level D40 model.

E readers can display books but can't be used to jot down notes. Now ReMarkable has made an E reader tablet that aims to make sketching on e-ink feel smooth, paper like and lag-free. Designed mainly for artists, various built-in tools focus on sketching and drawing, and work gets seamlessly synced over Wi-Fi . The stylus is a basic-feeling white pen with replaceable felt tips, 10 of which come with the stylus. The tablet allows 2,000 pressure levels as well as tilt support.

Bosch is demoing the X-Spect. You scan an item of clothing and it works out the composition and also any stains or dirt and tells the washer the best temperature and number of spins to clean whilst prolonging the life of the garment. In the future, Bosch say, it will also be able to scan foods, telling if your fruits or vegetables are ripe, or could paired with a smart oven, optimising the preheating and temperature for cooking.

Foul Facts did you know.. ?

• Romans didn’t have toilet paper... many of them just used a sponge on a stick!

• That a scorpion could survive for three weeks if it was embedded in a block of ice?

• That on average people fear spiders more than they do death.

• That in the 1800's photographs of dead children were often published in collections and called "Sleeping Beauties"?

• That men have more blood than women? Men have 1.5 gallons v’s .875 gallons for women. • That Alfred Hitchcock used chocolate syrup to simulate blood going down the drain in the famous shower scene in "Psycho"? • That you lose a pound every time you donate blood? You do so because a pint is a pound. • That bats fly with their hands, not their arms, and can achieve speeds of up to 60 mph?

• That Apart from its vulnerability to fire, human hair is almost impossible to destroy. It decays at a very slow rate, so slow that is almost non-disintegrative. It can't be destroyed by cold, change of climate, water, etc., and it is resistant to many kinds of acids and corrosive materials? • King Edmund II of England was killed when an assassin hiding in his toilet stuck a sword up his bum!

HEAVEN OR HELL?

Jeff, Phil & Mike find themselves in Hell.... No sooner had they arrived than a door in a wall opened and they say a REALLY ugly woman, her face was covered in warts. The voice of the Devil boomed out: “Jeff, you have sinned. You are condemned to spend the rest of eternity in bed with this poor woman.” And Jeff was led through the door to suffer his punishment. The other two men were understandably wary when a second door opened to reveal a woman even uglier that the first. She had one eye, no teeth, a hunched back and she stank of rotting tyres. Her body was covered in flies. The voice of the Devil boomed out: “Phil, you have sinned. You are condemned to spend the rest of eternity in bed with this wretched women.” And Phil was led through the door to suffer his punishment. By now Mike was a nervous wreck. So he feared the worst when a third door opened, but to his enormous relief he saw a beautiful blonde standing there wearing a skimpy bikini. “WOW!” he thought…. Then he heard the voice of the Devil boom out: “Carla, you have sinned…”

A Man’s World

GOING TO HELL... Bill ran into and old school friend Tom at the supermarket. ‘I hear you got married again, Tom’ he said. ‘Yes,’ said Tom, ‘for the fourth time!’ ‘Wow! What happened to your first three wives?’ ‘They all died.’ ‘I’m sorry, I didn’t know. That’s terrible. How did they die?’ ‘They first ate poisonous mushrooms.’ ‘How awful! What about the second?’ ‘She ate poisonous mushrooms.’ ‘Oh no! What about the third? Did she die from eating poisonous mushrooms, too?’ ‘No, she died from a broken neck.’ ‘Oh right, an accident?’ ‘No, not exactly you see, she wouldn’t eat her mushrooms.’

TOP 10 HEALTH TIPS FOR WOMEN

Lots of women have very busy lives and putting your other half and kids ahead of yourself is often the case. You go the Doctors and let's face it, ladies: have five minutes‌. Doctor visits are short. And they're getting shorter. So here are a few quick hacks tips for a lifetime prescription for wellness.

doctor about options, like freezing your eggs.

6) APPRECIATE BIRTH CONTROL... Birth control gets a bad press, but not only can it keep you from getting pregnant before you're ready, studies show it can lower the risk of uterine and ovarian cancer as well as regulate your periods.

1) ZAP YOUR STRESS... The biggest issue these days is that people have too much on their plates and want to juggle it all. Stress can have significant health consequences, from infertility to higher risks of depression, anxiety, and heart disease. Find the stress-reduction method that works for you and stick with it.

2) STOP DIETING... Dieting is hard to sustain (and is not healthy) and increases the risk of your weight cycling. It makes food the center of your life. When you're on a diet, you're constantly thinking about food, which makes you want more food. Eating healthy doesn't mean you have to forgo your favourite glass of wine or a piece of chocolate now and then. The key is moderation. Get a mix of lean proteins, healthy fats, smart carbohydrates and fiber. 52

3) DON'T OVER DO CALCIUM... Did you know what if you absorbed too much calcium it can increase the risk of kidney stones and may even increase the risk of heart disease? If you're under 50, you should have 1,000 milligrams per day, while over50 women should be getting 1,200 milligrams per day.

7) SEE YOUR DOCTOR... Make sure you get a smear test to check for cervical cancer every 3 years if you are 21 or older. Don't skip your yearly checkup. Your doctor needs to annually assess many other issues such as potential infection, your need for contraception and any other complaints you may have.

8) HAVE GOOD SEX... Sex reduces stress and may lower the risk of chronic disease but only if you enjoy it! If anything prevents you from sexual fulfillment, such as dryness or pain, talk to your doctor to find a solution.

9) GET MORE SLEEP... Sleep is very important - but if you have trouble getting out of bed, tire easily, or have trouble concentrating, you likely aren't getting enough. Recent studies suggest this can put you at greater risk of heart disease and psychological problems.

4) DO MORE CARDIO EXERCISE... Women need a mix of cardio and resistance or weight-bearing exercise at least three to five times a week to help prevent osteoporosis, heart disease, cancer, and diabetes. Exercise also promotes good self-image, which 10) CONSIDER GENETIC TESTING... is really important to mental health. Doctors can now screen people with a 5) THINK ABOUT FERTILITY... family history of breast cancer, ovariLots of women are now getting preg- an cancer, and chronic diseases to nant in their late 30s and even into assess their risk and then consider their early 40s, a woman's fertility preventive measures. Haunted Graveyard Cake

1) To make the ghosts, heat oven to 110C/90C fan/gas ¼. Whip the egg white in a clean bowl until stiff peaks form. Whisk in the sugar a tbsp at a time and keep whisking for a couple of mins until the mixture is thick and resembles shaving foam. Gently spoon the mixture into a large freezer bag, then cut a 1.5cm hole in one of the corners. Cover a baking sheet with some baking parchment. Squeeze a small circle of whipped egg white out of the bag, pulling upwards as you do to make a ghost shape. Repeat until the mixture is used up you should get about 15 ghosts. Bake for 1½ hrs until crisp. Can be stored in an airtight container for up to 2 days. 2) Now make the cake. Heat oven to 180C/160C fan/gas 4. Tip the cocoa powder, self-raising flour and sugar into a large bowl, breaking up any clumps of sugar. Mix together the eggs, milk and oil in a measuring cup or bowl, then pour over the dry ingredients and stir everything together until smooth. Grease and line a deep baking dish (20 x 30 x 5cm) with baking parchment. Pour in the cake mixture and bake for 30 mins. Leave to cool, then turn out onto a serving plate. Alternatively, wrap well and store for up to 2 days. 3) Finish decorating the cake: heat cream in a saucepan until just boiling. Place the dark chocolate in a large bowl and pour over the hot cream. Stir until the chocolate melts. Use a clean brush to paint a layer of chocolate over 7 rich tea finger biscuits, then set aside to cool. Pour the rest of the chocolate mixture over the cake and smooth over with a knife. Whizz the chocolate cookies, or bash in a freezer bag with a rolling pin, until small crumbs form. Sprinkle over the top of the cake. 4) Place the white chocolate in a small bowl, set over a pan of simmering water. Leave for 5 mins or until melted, then spoon into a small freezer bag. Wait for 10 mins so the mixture is not too runny, then cut a tiny hole in one corner of the bag. Pipe out 2 small blobs onto each ghost, place a silver ball on each to make eyes, then pipe out suitable words and shapes on the gravestones. Leave for 30 mins to set, then push the biscuit gravestones into the cake and arrange the ghosts around. To get the ghosts to ‘fly’, push a thin wire (you can get these from a florist shop – remember to remove before eating) into the bottom of the ghost, then place in the cake, hiding the wire behind a gravestone.

Method:

Ingredients: To decorate

•1 egg white •50g icing sugar •200ml single cream •200g dark chocolate •125g rich tea finger biscuits •100g double choc cookies •25g white chocolate silver balls, to decorate

For the cake

•85g cocoa powder •200g self-raising flour •375g light brown muscovado sugar •4 eggs •200ml milk •175ml vegetable oil

FRANKFURT 2017 MOTOR SHOW

The Frankfurt Motor Show is one of the favourites amongst the manufacturers and there are always a few really special launches – we take a look at some of the highlights of last months show.

Bentley announced the all-new, third-generation Continental GT, The rear retains the ‘haunch’ over the wheels, but the tail-lights and hatch have a neater, more resolved look. A revised version of the 6.0-litre W12. produces 626bhp to take the car from 0-100kphmph in 3.6 seconds, and on to a 333 kph top speed. The Ferrari Portofino, the replacement for the California T, was shown for the first time with the same turbocharged 3.9 litre V8 engine found in its predecessor, it now produces 592bhp – an increase of 40bhp. Also with 592 bhp, The new BMW M5 made it’s World debut with 0-100kph in of 3.4 seconds it matches the 604bhp Mercedes-AMG E 63 S exactly the top speed, as ever, is electronically limited to 155mph. The Mercedes AMG Project ONE is a 1.6 litre hybrid hypercar with over 968 bhp and revs to over 11,000 rpm. Instead of quoting a 0-100 time, Mercedes are quoting a 0-200 time – under 6 seconds! There’s one more big number to consider – around €3m

56

Kia, who have re-invented themselves over the years wowed us with the new Proceed concept, it is not yet known if the shooting break will go into production but judging by the interest and the reviews of the recently launched Kia Stinger, it looks like Audi and BMW are going to have a new rival!

Cancer

Leo

Virgo

Libra

Scorpio

Sagittarius

Cancer, joy, oh, joy! On October 10th 2017 Jupiter enters your sign, the one that says “LOVE” and where it will stay for a year and a month. Expect pleasures and passion, adventure and adrenaline. Jupiter will stay in your sign for more than a year making life so much easier. The Sun will also shine down on you this month giving you strength, luck and the opportunities you have been craving for a long while. The Sun is in itself a symbol of status and fame; Jupiter also gets involved from now on so there are good tidings for next year on the work front. October is a mixed month. It could raise some professional issues during the first two weeks due to the tense aspect between Mars and. But during the last week the SunJupiter conjunction promises creativity, beneficial circumstances, success and money. Your health needs to be treated with more attention this month. You should avoid stress and take care of yourself.

Leo, love is not a particular strength for you this October 2017, and even less so during the first two weeks of the month. Saturn makes an adverse aspect with Mars, which can lead to conflicts or various incidents. Things don’t always go as you might want them to, and if you push or try to rush the situation you might even make it worse. It would be best to curb some of your ego and learn to negotiate so you can find the best solution for both parties. Your intellect is alive and kicking this month you are exceptionally gifted for creative work or innovation. You should show a little more restraint and think things through financially. You are feeling somewhat lethargic this month resources are somewhat limited, so you shouldn’t make too large an effort or indulge in excesses. If you balance effort and rest well you will feel better throughout the month.

Virgo, with Mars and Venus situated in your sign this month the first part of October 2017 is full of red-hot romance. Love and desires take over, and every other aspect of life either molds itself into the background. Venus leaves Virgo on October 14th 2017, steering romantic choices toward practical and mundane concerns. Strong will, ambitious plans and action steer the path throughout October on the work front. You prove yourself to be a worthy opponent and respond promptly to whatever challenge. You can solve a lot of issues during this term, but in order to succeed you need to avoid being impulsive or rash. Money has a major impact on October. Financial senses are very stimulated and can steer you toward business or other pursuits increasing your income. The presence of Mars in Virgo makes you feel very powerful during the first two weeks of October. And you might indeed have more energy, stamina, and be more dynamic. Libra, the first part of October 2017 doesn’t bring you much satisfaction in the love life department. Venus and Mars are situated in an inactive area of your chart, one that is hard to get and can at times be misleading. It wouldn’t be surprising to run into some reason to be upset or frustrated. Don’t worry though because on October 22nd Mars also enters Libra, so the last days of the month become truly favourable for love and passion. October 2017 is a very active month on the work front. The Sun, Mercury, Venus, and Mars are full of energy and ambition. Venus brings luck. Mercury sharpens the mind, is inventive and full of ideas, excellent for communication and marketing. Jupiter’s position in your sign is promising for your finances during the next thirteen months. In order to make the most of this luck pay close attention to financial decisions – more so during the first two weeks of the month!

Scorpio, October brings with it a major event: Jupiter enters your sign on October 10th 2017 and stays there until November 2018. Jupiter will bring with it a heightened romantic sensitivity and probability that you’ll fall in love. In some cases an increased fertility or greater interest in having children. Jupiter is the Greater Benefic, bringer of luck and opportunity, opener of horizons and giver of a taste for adventure and large-scale projects. Jupiter promises prosperity both on the work front and the finance front. Your successes this month come through great leadership or organisation skills especially during the last week. During the first two weeks of the month you feel great energy and vigor, one way or the other, it’s all about balance. If you take care of yourself and steer clear of excesses, you have nothing to fear.

Sagittarius, October 2017 is generous when it comes to matters of the heart. Venus and Mars are in strong positions that give freedom to act. Mercury is in conjunction with a benefic planet during the second half of the month. The overall picture of October isn’t calm and full of harmony, but rather dynamic and challenging. Relationships have to do with society, with visibility. You may find love at work or by attending events where there are lots of people. Mars is in your sign this month brining with it competitive and decisive actions. You will be very busy during October 2017. Think carefully about the financial consequences of decisions on a social or professional front! With regards your health you should pay double the attention to how you are feeling until end of this year, think seriously about taking some action to safeguard your health.
