EVOLVING media for this generation of farmers

Evolving media for this generation of dairy farmers

As we celebrate 100 years of the NZ Dairy Exporter in 2025, we reflect on the NZ dairy industries ability to adapt to the needs of that generation.

As millennials that live and work in the rural sector, our business strategy is to focus on the farmers that are actively farming today with another 20 years ahead of them.

The NZ Dairy Exporter 2025 Winter issue will be a special centennial issue and the last for the brand as it takes on a new life in two ways.

Country-Wide in 2025 will evolve as a brand to cement the space as the “premium agribusiness brand for progressive farmers and growers” unshackling from the perception of it only targeting ‘sheep & beef farmers’.

In Spring 2025 Country-Wide will merge with NZ Dairy Exporter to become ‘pan-sector’ across all land-uses - dairy, sheep & beef, arable, horticulture and more.

Country-Wide’s distribution will increase to over 10,000 copies every issue of the seasonal magazine. This distribution will go to both publications subscribers, key influential rural professionals (1,500 NZIPIM members), Air NZ Koru Lounges and nationwide retail stores (New World, Four Squares and PaperPlus).

Our BEEF Country, SHEEP Country and DAIRY Country titles will be distributed freely to 22,000 farmers every quarter as well providing you with two customer profiles to target:

1. Progressive, informed farm owners and their influential rural advisors - Choose Country-Wide as your premium partner with our partnership editorial (print & online) and popular Country-Wide podcast (2,500 downloads/month) hosted by experienced agri-journalist, Sarah Perriam-Lampp.

2. Farm managers and employees - Choose our BEEF Country, SHEEP Country or DAIRY Country magazines that reach 22,000 farmers.

3. ALL Farmers - Our most popular and effective products is our weekly email newsletters targeting 8,000 emails with your brand in the spotlight. Ask your partnership manager about sending out a bespoke email to the regions you are after.

The top performing dairy farm owner & sharemilkers (subscribers) who value he treasured technical research and farm management advice to learn, grow and excel will receive the new Country-Wide from Spring 2025. This publication will be ‘pansector’ across all categories (dairy, sheep & beef, arable, horticulture). This distribution will increase to over 10,000 including current merged farmer subscribers, key influential rural professionals (1,500 NZIPIM members), Air NZ lounges & nationwide retail stores (supermarkets/bookstores). For the wider dairy farming audience (22,000 delivered free) , we launch Dairy Country from Spring 2025 twice a year, to complete or set of Country Titles (Sheep Country, Beef Country). This audience is every dairy farmer in the country on Rural Delivery and will reach a wider audience such as farm managers, contract milkers etc that don’t subscribe. The information in this magazine will be broader in nature and include more inspiring on farm stories. This will be the name of our weekly ‘dairy’ email newsletter & podcast series.

T hought Leadership MARKETING

Do you have a story about your brand that you would love to shout from the rooftops?

Relying on your PR company to get free editorial is very difficult these days and sponsored content or advertorial-type stories can waste the opportunity to make an impact with yawn-inducing stories that don’t garner clicks (online) or engagement with readers.

Why? Because they are usually written by a marketer not a journalist and published out of context.

Getting anything other than an advertisement in Dairy Exporter previously, was notoriously challenging. But in 2024, with the development of Partnership Editorial as a product with our editorial and sales teams working together, we are excited to offer you this opportunity that’s an all round win-win-win.

What makes the best partnership editorial?

Timely, relevant solutions-led content that helps bring value to the farmer without selling a product or service. The best partnership editorial includes quotes from technical experts as well as farmers, such as showcasing research or an onfarm success story with good economic stats such as ROI analysis.

DELIVERABLES

Choose a Full page (400 words) or Double Page (800 words) article written by our journalists (with your final approval) and your supplied photography. The article is written from supplied material and a phone interview.

Includes both print and online editorial which you can embed video, podcast and links into provided free to our website audience.

Online editorial is a fantastic way to increase your search engine optimization (SEO) and to include back links to your website.

KEY THING TO NOTE

The booking deadline is earlier than the ad booking deadline as we need time to write and approve.

The content is at the discretion of the editor and must fit our magazines overaching editorial objectives, policy and standard.

Case Study

Farmax took up the opportunity to have their Head of Product, Dr. Todd White, contribute thought leadership on the topic of making data driven decisions on farm to go alongside an editorial theme about modelling onfarm decisions with software tools to help make cost-control choices in the face of inflation. The article was then placed on the website with an interview embedded within the article that Sarah Perriam-Lampp did on The Dairy Exporter Podcast

PARTNERSHIP EDITORIAL

What is PARTNERSHIP EDITORIAL?

Partnership editorial is not advertorial or supplied copy. Our editors are open to this marketing on the condition they write the copy allowing it to conform to the overall style of the magazine. A final proof will be supplied for approval. This written content in both the magazine and online is identified as partnership editorial with the header ‘In Partnership with [your company name]’. Below is one of the many example of what we have done for our clients.

Our clients say they get great qualified enquiry from partnership editiorial

DRENCH RESISTANCE PODCAST INTERVIEW

The topic of triple drench resistant as now a problem on a third of New Zealand sheep farms was a hot topic on The Country-Wide Podcast in February 2024. Zoetis NZ did not want to shy away from the opportunity to provide technical advice on this industry issue with their vet, Clive Bingham.

With much uncertainty about government regulation, FAR also use the studio to create explainer videos about how to do a farm environment plan or how to use a greenhouse gas calculator which has been well recieved by their levy paying growers.
