Looking For Extra
SPACE?
Across the UK, people are struggling to find enough space in their homes and small businesses. They need an extra bedroom, a home office that isn’t the dining room, a garden room, perhaps a room to rent out on Airbnb or similar, or somewhere to expand the business … but the huge cost and upheaval of moving is out of the question. The newly launched answer is Portopods: eye-catchingly attractive stand-alone rooms finished in natural woods such as cedar and British oak, created caringly for a garden or other outside space. Portopods are portable pods, installed as a static building or available on wheels for use as a mobile office or retail space. Because of their portability, the usual concerns about building extensions (whether outside or up in the attic) are no longer off-putting: the eye-watering costs of services such as architects, groundworks and armies of builders are banished, there’s often no need for planning permission and companies with business premises need not be hit by new business rates. Each pod is pre-designed and pre-built to the highest quality by experienced Portopods craftspeople. Natural woods, space-saving innovation, novel designs and immense flexibility are used to create single rooms, retail areas or accommodation with optional kitchens and en-suite bathrooms. Designs include light and airy garden rooms and various styles of shepherd’s hut, fully equipped with living and sleeping space, kitchen and bathroom, and available in static and mobile form. Portable offices can help businesses to expand without relocating and retail layouts are perfect for customers to enjoy such treatments such as hair dressing, beauty, massage and physiotherapy – whether static in a single location or mobile for pop-up use in shopping centres, retail parks, fairs and festivals. Prices include all pre-design, pre-build, delivery schedule and onsite installation, including any plumbing and electrics, and Portopods can also help with personal or business finance, as well as planning issues if they arise.

“
Garden Building
And because our buildings are portable, issues such as planning permission and business rates need not be a worry.
”
Co-founder Damon Dawson, who is Portopods’ Design & Build director, with 20 years of experience to offer, said: “With space at a premium and traditional extensions often not an option, Portopods offer homes and small businesses the ability to grow in a stylish and comfortable way, with pre-defined, pre-built high specification buildings of the highest quality. We use standard designs, enhanced by the ability to tailor and add extra items, depending on how a customer wants their building to look and feel.” Portopods customer Elliot Hall, of Ockeridge Rural Retreats, said: “The quality of the workmanship is what impressed me the most and it was clear that this product had every aspect of it carefully designed and engineered. The functionality is equally impressive and the way in which Damon and James treat their customers is a breath of fresh air. A 5 Star product with 5 Star service to match.” Prices start at £6,995 plus delivery anywhere in the UK, with delivery lead times as little as 8 weeks .

It was originally run by leading gun makers Westley Richards and William Powell, two of the most respected names in gun making history. Now the centre maintains its wellhoned standards in the hands of Head Coach Ian Butler and his son, Senior Coach Gareth Butler. The shotguns used will be picked to suit the physical build of the particular pupil and may be teamed with low noise and low recoil cartridges. Older and experienced shooters frequently find that they, too, benefit from individual lessons to pinpoint difficulties or bad habits which may be holding them back. Clay pigeon Starter Packages provide six oneto-one lessons for people interested in shooting as a sport, including an introduction to the different shooting disciplines of sporting, skeet, compact and down the line, plus discounts on guns and equipment. Legal advice is on hand. Hospitality events are a speciality of Hereford and Worcester Shooting Ground, lasting either half or a full day. Catering for 15 to 75 people,

Typically, they start with breakfast rolls, tea and coffee, followed by a briefing and then shooting practice and tuition until it’s time for a pleasant three course lunch. After that would follow a shooting competition followed by prize giving and farewells in the licensed bar. Reviews from numerous well satisfied customers frequently use phrases like ‘brilliant time’, ‘excellent tuition’ and ‘really enjoyed it’. Access the value in your home
an Equity Release Plan could help you and your family More and more home owners in Worcestershire are choosing to enjoy the benefits of retirement with a life-changing cash injection, by using Knowle-based independent specialists The Right Equity Release. Through its Worcestershire-based financial advisor Robert Levy, people over 55 can release some of the equity hitherto locked up in their property tax-free. They can take it as a lump sum or in smaller amounts as and when required and spend the money exactly as they wish, whilst continuing to own their home as before. As you’ve probably seen in the media, equity release is becoming increasingly popular. There are a number of different schemes from competing providers, so for such an important decision it is vital to seek expert, impartial advice and guidance. Robert works through The Right Equity Release, a highly reputable national company regulated by the Financial Conduct Authority. Also a member of The Equity Release Council, he offers a free initial consultation to provide you with a full understanding of the available options. Thanks to him, many people are now enjoying retirement in ways they never thought possible, perhaps taking their dream holiday or repaying existing mortgages and loans and so benefit from increased cash flow. Some people choose to use the money to help their children or grandchildren get on the property ladder or fund university fees, effectively releasing their inheritance early while still being around to enjoy seeing them benefit. Robert, who lives near Malvern, says: “Many people are unaware of what the latest products can offer. A Lifetime Mortgage for example is simply a loan secured on the property so you still own your home. The main difference between these and traditional mortgages is that with most schemes there’s no commitment to make any repayments or have any minimum income to qualify.” Robert Levy, Tel: 0800 145 5399 M 07730 517671 E: robert.levy@therightequityrelease.co.uk www.equityreleaseworcestershire.co.uk

THE LYGON ARMS 5 STAR LUXURY AT IT’S BEST
If it’s five star luxury that you are looking for then look no further than the Lygon arms. Set in the heart of the picturesque village of Broadway, the Lygon arms caters for every need.
O
n arrival we were met by one of the staff members at reception. It was at this point that our relaxing weekend began with my husband handing over our keys for our vehicle to be taken to the car park. Our bags were left at reception ready to be taken to our room. The staff, all in matching uniforms, were welcoming and friendly with the hotel oozing a warm relaxed atmosphere. Following our speedy check in we went to explore the hotel, which offered lots of areas with comfortable seating and open fires in which to enjoy a drink. The hotel was dog friendly with lots of happy pooches snuggled in front of the open fires. After a lovely walk around the village it was time for lunch. There was a varied choice on the menu and the hummus that we chose was spectacular. There was a good variety of bottled beers and the wine list was lengthy. For the more adventurous there were some intriguing cocktails to be had. Our afternoon was taken up by a chilled time at the spa. This had everything that you could want. After a swim in the pool we spent some time in the sauna, steam room and the Jacuzzi. For the more active among us there was a well-functioning gym. When we had had enough of that it was time to relax on the loungers and read the magazines that were provided. Nestled down in our robes it was easy to let all our stresses float away. After a relaxing afternoon in the spa we went up to our room to prepare

for dinner in the wine bar. Our room was spacious and was filled with all the luxuries anyone could need for a stay. From the beautiful décor of the room to the well-presented bathroom it was perfection. Our room had a separate seating area which came in useful for sitting and reading. We were provided with soft dressing gowns and slippers along with high quality toiletries. There were soft drinks and bottles of mineral water to enjoy as well as fruit to keep us fuelled until dinner. Our evening meal was in the wine bar, which was tastefully decorated and had a welcoming atmosphere. There was a good choice on the menu and the food was not only amazing but also reasonably priced. The meat balls were divine and the desserts the best to be had. Following our fabulous day we headed up to our room and sank into a blissful sleep on the comfortable bed in peaceful surroundings. Our breakfast was taken in the patio. There was plenty of room for us with plush seating as we sat overlooking the well maintained garden. The choice of breakfast was both continental and a cooked breakfast, with a vegetarian option which was delicious. We were spoilt for choice and the muffins that were available were delightful. Following our breakfast we decided to go for a walk. The hotel was not only able to provide us with places of interests but the wellingtons to go with it. If there was one criticism of our stay at the Lygon Arms it would only be that we could not have stayed longer.

Entrepreneur James Vincent Supports Young Enterprise Group Sweet Dreamz Over the past few months local entrepreneur James Vincent has supported his old high school by assisting the Young Enterprise Bromsgrove group – Sweet Dreamz. As a past student, James applied his own knowledge and experience of developing his own company to helping the group advance their brand and business and provide them with tips to make sure they keep growing and get through to the next round of the competition.
“I was so impressed by what the group had produced, they are definitely entrepreneurs in the making. Their presentation skills were brilliant and watching their product evolve and develop has been a great experience. I look forward to seeing what they bring to the finals”, stated James Vincent, Director of Hot Source Creative. Sweet Dreamz from North Bromsgrove High School are a group of six ‘Year 12’ students aiming to raise awareness of the health benefits of essential oils. They handmake a diverse range of cushions, scented pouches and scented key rings from donated and recycled materials. They are passionate about helping individuals with their health and wellbeing – a fundamental inspiration for their new range of products.
Almost six months after beginning their Young Enterprise journey and investing their time and effort into their company they achieved the ‘North Worcestershire Winner’ award! Fortunately, this means they are through to next round to continue competing. They have accomplished so much in such a short time and they are going to continue to strive and push themselves further and help as many individuals with their health and wellbeing as they can. Behind the Back Garden are different from almost any other florist you will find Wedding flowers from Behind the Back Garden are different from almost any other florist you will find because the flowers are all home grown by the owner. They are as fresh and fragrant as it is possible to get and they are lovingly arranged to look as lovely together as nature intended. This charming, artisan business has been grown quite literally from seed by Lisa Barber, one of the growing number of British flower farmers. It utilises a patch of land behind the back garden of her terraced house in Harborne, Birmingham, where she works daily. Lisa grows a wide range of flowers, including her great favourites, vibrantly coloured spiky dahlias and beautifully fragranced sweet peas which grow back willingly, again and again, as long as weather permits. Many plants are grown around improvised frames made from old step ladders or sheltered in recycled pots. Because Lisa grows her own without weedkillers or chemicals, and picks them the day before they are needed, they are always fresh and seasonal. They also have zero ‘flower miles’ except for delivery to the customer
– which is free within five miles - so they are very much in line with the ideals of people pursuing greener lifestyles. With a light touch respecting each bloom’s individual character and beauty, Lisa crafts them into her own unique designs. For weddings she makes the prettiest of bouquets, button holes and corsages, flower crowns, baskets, posies and decorations for the venue and tables, from flowers grown especially for the bride. She also makes appealing arrangements, wreaths and garlands for everything from wakes to celebrations. “Every flower arrangement I do is seasonal and unique,” says Lisa, “I also use the foliage from the trees, hedges and shrubs around my patch, which customers are very welcome to visit.”
