Rural retirement living with great amenities

Exciting things are happening at Albion Lodge, a superior retirement home in an idyllic Worcestershire village setting. Next year will be the 40th anniversary of this family-run complex and so celebrations will be in order. And, 16 new retirement apartments have gone on sale on adjoining land, linked by a new building housing shared facilities including a gym, hairdresser’s, treatment and comfortable owners’ lounge.

The new Albion Meadows development aimed at the active over 55s offers independent living in high quality one and two-bedroomed apartments, with the safeguard of 24 hour support. An open day will take place on October 26th so interested people can see around the delightful new complex in Hanley Swan, a picture-perfect English village with its own pub, well-stocked shop/ post office and duck pond.

The development by the Darwent family complements their long and strong history of care, with the ethos that people should be looked after as if they were their own relatives, with dignity and respect. That has been the case ever since Albion Lodge Retirement Home was opened by Colin and Jean Darwent in 1985.

The home has deep links with the surrounding community, so residents use the amenities and feel a strong sense of belonging. They also live with delightful countryside views, within sight of the Malvern Hills and within easy driving distance of the Three Counties Showground, the riverside town of Upton-upon-Severn and the M5, which gives great access to the rest of the country.

The new apartments are extremely well-appointed with level access showers, ample storage, flexible rooms, spacious balconies, an allotment garden and accessible meadow walks.

For further information, please contact manager Sarah Darwent and her team via enquiries@albionmeadows.co.uk telephone 01684 312140 or 01684 310626 or visit the website at www.albionmeadows.co.uk

Expert estate planning for later life

People enjoy peace of mind and financial security when they use Silvertime Legal to look after their later life assets and interests. The advisors of this long-established, caring company are specialists in estate planning and experts in limiting liability for unwanted costs such as Inheritance Tax.

They create tailor-made packages for each individual client, ensuring that their assets and interests are protected while they are alive and that their worldly goods are distributed as they wish after they die.

The first step in estate planning with Silvertime Legal is a face-to-face visit, free and without any obligation to buy any services. This takes place in the client’s own home unless they prefer it to be somewhere else, and enables the advisor to gain a deep understanding of the person’s particular circumstances, concerns and wishes.

Using the company’s in-depth understanding of UK laws and regulations, Silvertime Legal can then draw up a comprehensive package of measures covering all aspects of later life care, preparation of a bespoke will, probate and protection of assets including property, savings, capital and investments.

These packages can cover diverse decisions, including who would become guardian of any children in event of death. They frequently involve setting up Lasting Power of Attorney, naming someone who will take responsibility if the client should become unable to make their own decisions.

While assets ordinarily pass to the person’s surviving husband or wife, a Lifetime Protection Trust may be set up to direct that they eventually pass to other chosen beneficiaries, perhaps children from earlier marriages or a brother or sister.

Whatever the scenarios, people taking up estate planning with Silvertime Legal can relax and let go of any anxiety, knowing that their wishes are legally recorded and binding. Having such a plan in place greatly limits the likelihood

of disputes and other unwanted consequences that might arise if a person should die without one. Estate plans can also be reviewed to take account of any changing circumstances.

To learn more or arrange a free consultation, download a brochure from www.silvertimelegal.co.uk or call 0247 693 9940

Kynance Cove near Lizard Point is one of the most photographed parts of the Cornish Coast, owned and managed by the National Trust with crystal clear turquoise waters, white sandy beaches and stripy rocks made of the rare mineral serpentine, with a surface like snakeskin. Close by is the cosy Little Pentire Shepherd’s Hut, offering guests and one optional, well-behaved dog a chance to

experience an amazing location within the village of Lizard itself.

The Lizard Peninsula is Britain’s most southerly point, a landmark for ships but also with reefs making it a site of many shipwrecks. outstanding sea views and keepers’ tales and a tour of the heritage museum within.

Over in Wales, the Mallard shepherd’s hut at the Sennybridge site sits within the Brecon Beacons National Park and provides guests with a great chance to observe nature wild, welcome and close-up but still cosy, even at night when the hot tub gives star-studded sky views with no light pollution.

A unique holiday hideaway in the Brecon Beacons

Pitch sizes on camping and glamping sites are usually measured in metres but staying in the Mallard gives you acres. Stay here and it will be all yours along with glorious views, easy access to the adventures of the National Park and a tiny, tidy home which has been made with a lot of local love.

Situated in a field between two villages within the Brecon Beacons National Park, Sennybridge Shepherds Huts has been a labour of love for the owners, local builder Martin and his partner Diane. It was first conceived as a getaway for their own personal use but the project evolved as they realised that their little home and their big field were just too good to keep to themselves.

The field has deliberately untamed corners; a wildlife-rich pond, a meadow area and newly-planted native fruit trees, but the hut is as neat as a hotel. Inside, it has whitewashed walls, a made-up double bed, a little kitchenette and its own shower room and toilet. Throw open the hut’s double stable doors and there’s a raised deck with a hammock and outdoor furniture; the perfect perch from which to watch the acrobatics of red kites which are fed nearby. Once they’ve gone home, you should grab some logs and fire up the Finnish-style hot tub, as there’s a nightly display which is just as impressive as the daily one. The Beacons is designated as a Dark Sky Reserve and the stars certainly dazzle on a clear night, reflected in the steamy water of the tub.

Simply enjoy! Freedom in nature on wild Scottish island

Scotland has long attracted people hearing the call of the wild, a need to detox from the urban environment and reconnect with nature. The Inner Hebridean Isle of Shuna satisfies these needs perfectly, having no traffic save for farm vehicles, no concrete to speak of and a population of just three. It does, however, have seven very appealing cottages for let to selfcatering holidaymakers, all simply but comfortably refurbished and powered by renewable energy.

The residents, Rob and Kathryn James, manage the island and cottages on behalf of a private owner, duties which include collecting guests by boat from the mainland village of Arduaine and delivering them back at the end.

The properties are dog and family friendly and sleep from four to 12 people. They are dotted around the island, which is a working farm with sheep, and each comes with a powered boat to use for the duration. Guests are free to roam around the whole 1,000 acres or paddle across to nearby islands. Many book pleasure cruises to other islands or to the dramatic whirlpool Correvreckan. They may find themselves travelling alongside seals, dolphins, otters, even whales.

As well as wildlife including red, roe and fallow deer and rare birds from golden eagles to nightjars, sights to see include a Victorian castle ruin, ancient farmsteads and burial mounds and relics of abandoned lime production.

our top picks for HEALTH & WELLBEING

Ever since the COVID pandemic, there’s been a heightened awareness of how much hobbies can help people to gain and keep control of their mental health and wellbeing. If you choose well, the activities can help all round, supporting better physical health and maybe also benefiting aspects such as weight management, breathing, balance and other factors as well.

Sometimes, all that’s needed is to chill out somewhere totally relaxing

such as the Red Squirrel Campsite, where wild swimming comes recommended to boost that feel good factor.

Experience the healing power of touch through the holistic therapies of Hands and Souls, get personal training for your specific needs with HJ Fitness or Alena Morton PT, or sign up with Paul Kinsella Yoga. Traumatic experiences such as domestic abuse or mental health crisis can destroy lives, but if that’s

you, find empowering support of Serenity 4 Women.

Iris Medical Aesthetics and Dr Hazel Skin Solutions help people to achieve their own enhanced beauty, boosting confidence and self-esteem at the same time. To add that final, perfect touch – especially if you’re acting because you’re about to get married – make a date with Hereford Gold to furnish all your extra special big day jewellery needs.

Dr. Hazel Skin Solutions – where your beauty is in expert hands

At Dr. Hazel Skin Solutions, we believe in helping you embrace the skin you’re in, with confidence and grace. Visit us at Dr. Hazel Skin Solutions in Long Itchington, Warwickshire, and discover how we can help you feel more confident, refreshed, and truly yourself.

Red Squirrel Campsite is an ideal place to stay and get away from it all. Turn off from the big wide world we all seem to be connected too.

One activity that is huge at the moment with our surrounding areas is swimming ( wild, cold-water, or whatever you want to call it.) Our area has some of the most dramatic areas to have a dip in, that you will be converted forever.

One of my favourite spots is just 20 min walk up the road from the campsite - in the River Coe. This particular spot is quiet, and peaceful. Even with the A82 running alongside it, you are lower down and nestled by big rocky cliffs while being overlooked by monstrous mountains.

The cold water swimming for me has been a game changer for my mental health and menopause symptoms. While dealing with all of these, once I am in the water I think about one thing and that is breathing - deep even breaths. The temperature of the water is what gets me. While swimming all winter my most enjoyable swims were in the coldest of water. I get a complete reset. My body then works with me, not against me, my mind is calm.

All of this is literally on our doorstep. So, if you are looking for peace and tranquillity The Red Squirrel Campsite is looking forward to welcoming you and I will be happy to give you some swim spot tips or maybe join you! www.redsquirrelcampsite.co.uk

Peter the Bee and Friends

Active since 2019 to help reduce the decline of our pollinators, we are dedicated growers of insect friendly native wildflowers. Our nursery is also our home in the beautiful Wyre Forest and we grow everything without the use of peat, herbicide or pesticide.

Our vision is that everyone should have a few wildflowers in their gardens even if it’s just a balcony or a window box. We believe that even small actions by many people will make a positive difference.

Here at the wildflower nursery, we grow around 150 different species some common and others less so. We sell our plants primarily at plant fairs, farmers markets and environmental events.

Find us on Facebook to see where we will be next. www.facebook.com/PetertheBeeand1/ We are not open to the public as such, but may be visited by appointment.

Our company is equipped with the highest and latest technology to achieve the most professional finishes to your project. If your home or business property is in need of some TLC, using our services will not only save you money, but it will also extend the lifespan of up to 15 years.

Using the highest quality, specialised paint, we can spray virtually any material including plastic, metal, aluminium, wood, anything that comes to mind!
