Scenic self-catering for groups large and small on Devon/ Dorset border

Champernhayes is a delightful complex of self-catering holiday cottages, lovingly fashioned from ancient farm buildings on the borders of Dorset and Devon. With a children’s indoor pool and valley views to the sea at Lyme Bay, the six properties individually sleep from two to 12 people, and can be hired singly, in groups or all together for up to 38 people.

Just two miles from the fossil-hunters’ Jurassic Coast, the complex stands on the site of an ancient monastery and the properties are ideal for anything from traditional family holidays and romantic breaks to significant celebrations.

They are ideal for people of mixed generations to spend quality time together, while having their own private space. They can also be hired for group holidays with activity themes such as walking, photography and wildlife watching. In 2025, owner Karen plans to arrange themed weekends, starting with some for philosophy enthusiasts and people reinventing their lives after divorce.

Nestled in peaceful countryside, the cottages are self-contained, fully furnished and wellequipped to exacting modern standards, with high-end appliances and smart TV alongside antique and vintage furnishings.

The medieval thatched farmhouse at the heart of the complex was built in 1482 and retains many original features, such as an inglenook fireplace complete with built-in bread oven. The Barn, also thatched, has exposed A-frame beams and an upstairs lounge positioned for fabulous views. It sleeps up to 12 in five bedrooms, two of

which are on the ground floor along with one of four bathrooms, ideal for a family sharing.

Champernhayes overlooks a designated Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty, now known as a National Landscape, and is fascinating to visit all year round. The farm is just seven miles from the lively town of Bridport, with a mix of antique, artisan and farmers’ markets, music and theatre. There are many National Trust properties and other places of interest locally, including author Thomas Hardy’s birthplace and later home in Dorchester, the Tolpuddle Martyrs Museum, Abbotsford Swannery and The Donkey Sanctuary’s flagship centre at Sidmouth, Devon, a friendly seaside town.

Amazing holiday spot near Ceredigion coast, for groups large and small

West Wales coast and countryside offer truly magnificent surroundings for a holiday, whether you wish to relax and take it easy, enjoy Welsh culture and heritage at its most patriotic or get active on the magnificent waves, mountains and biking trails. The luxurious, family and pet-friendly farmhouse Ffynnonmeredydd and its five neighbouring cottages lie just six miles from the pretty seaside town of Aberaeron, where bottlenose dolphins and porpoises frequent the waters of Cardigan Bay alongside surfers, sailors and swimmers. The properties of the Ffynnonmeredydd complex can be hired individually or all together, providing superb self-catering family accommodation for up to 38 people. They share 24 acres of beautiful

grounds featuring three lakes, a play area, tennis court and ample space in which to wander, wind down and explore.

Spacious Ffynnonmeredydd itself sleeps 10 people in five blissfully comfortable bedrooms, one of which is on the ground floor, along with a wetroom shower. The property has fabulous views over lakes, gardens and meadows, especially from the sun lounge. Here, patio doors open on to a decked area giving premium views of two lakes and their abundant wildlife, including the thriving local red kite population.

The fittings and furnishings of Ffynnonmeredydd are all stylish and high quality, from the woodburning stove and underfloor heating to the eight-person hot tub, the eight

plasma screen TVs to the Americanstyle fridge/freezer with built-in ice and water dispenser. Exposed beams and other original features add warmth and character.

The adjacent cottages, which sleep from two to 10 people each, are barn conversions renovated to equally high standards. One or more can be hired with the farmhouse.

The owners also own a high-end hotel/restaurant in the heart of Aberaeron itself, Y Seler. This has nine boutique guest bedrooms and serves a range of fine dining menus making great use of the highest quality, locally produced ingredients. Despite having opened only two years ago, it has already been named Restaurant of the Year in the Welsh Tourism Awards and achieved a

prestigious 5 Star Restaurant with Rooms rating from Visit Wales.

Building on this sturdy raft of success, the owners are currently renovating another hotel – Ty Gyn – as an upmarket wedding venue, which is due to open in May. It is thought that with the additional accommodation there linked to Ffynnonmeredydd Cottages and U Seler, it will be simply perfect for bringing together wedding guests who live far apart, enabling around 70 people to spend quality time together before, during and after the celebrations.

Luxury listed holiday home in ancient town centre

LUDLOW

Ludlow in South Shropshire has the reputation for being one of England’s most attractive and unspoiled medieval market towns, with its quaint street scene of half-timbered shops, houses and an amazing array of places to eat and drink the outstanding local fare, several of them in the Michelin Guide. The Maltsters House is a luxury self-catering holiday home in a prime position for enjoying all that this fascinating place has to offer.

The Maltsters House is a Grade 2 listed 18th century cottage which has been renovated to such high standards as to gain a Ludlow Conservation and Heritage Award, retaining its exposed oak beams and other period features. The accommodation comfortably caters for and sleeps up to 14 people in 6 double bedrooms with 5 bathrooms. All the rooms are spacious and welcoming, tastefully decorated and immaculately kept with the en-suite master bedroom a particular gem featuring a kingsize four poster bed. Four of the double bedrooms are zip linked superking doubles or can be made up as twin-bedded rooms. One of these twin bedded/ superking rooms is on the ground floor and is suitable for people with mobility problems. In addition, one of the king sizes double bedrooms has two extra beds for children.

There is a lounge with a large smart TV and a log burner, a separate dining room which comfortably seats everyone and has an additional TV for gaming. The fully equipped kitchen opens onto a sun trap courtyard garden with a BBQ. A Jacuzzi hot tub can be booked by clients, and the services of a talented private chef can also be booked for those extra-special occasions.

Ludlow itself has much of interest to visitors including a castle overlooking the River Teme, a great local museum above the Buttercross, the Ludlow Assembly Rooms - a theatre/arts centre, St Laurence’s Church known as ‘the Cathedral of the Marches’, Ludlow Racecourse for followers of horse racing as well as Ludlow Golf Club which welcomes visitors. Teme Leisure Centre, a short walk away has an amazing spa, and fantastic water facilities for children. Ludlow is also the start of the 30 mile Mortimer Trail scenic walking route to Kington, Herefordshire.

But there is much, much more within an hour’s drive. Many people enjoy the Black &White Trail of villages with timberframed properties, and walkers of all ages head for the Shropshire Hills Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty with its stunning views and magnificent wildlife. Ludlow is within an hour’s drive of Hereford, Shrewsbury and Ironbridge, the ‘Birthplace of the Industrial Revolution’, with an array of fascinating museums and the world’s first major bridge to be made of cast iron. A great family day out can be had on the Severn Valley Steam Railway, an award-winning heritage railway which can be accessed at Bridgnorth, Bewdley or Kidderminster.

Guests of Dunfallandy House enjoy the splendour of a historic mansion close to the exciting and cultured town of Pitlochry but surrounded by Perthshire’s beautiful Highland mountains, forest and fresh air.

This warmly welcoming country hotel is the ancestral home of Clan Fergusson, with Scottish heritage in every ancient nook and Highland hospitality in every hearty meal. Its bar proudly boasts the largest whisky selection in Pitlochry, amassed and joyfully edited by owner/ connoisseur Jack Weetman to include collectors’ rarities dating back 40 years and served only to resident guests.

Dunfallandy House has eight splendid en-suite guest bedrooms in this impressive early 19th century property. The rooms face on to well-kept gardens and each has tea and coffee-making facilities, complimentary toiletries and tablets pre-loaded with TV apps.

Breakfast is served in the main dining room, and in the evenings, pizzas, platters and desserts are available in the bar area. Guests have use of a secret snug for card games and the Fergusson Lounge, where they can read, chat, play a grand piano or watch films on a projector screen.

Outdoors, there is plenty of play space, and only a short walk to the beautiful River Tummel and a 20 minute walk along its banks to the heart of Pitlochry.

Pitlochry itself is hugely popular, not only as a gateway to the Cairngorms National Park but with great restaurants, shops and bars in its own right. The acclaimed Pitlochry Festival Theatre provides varied entertainment and Highland Nights are a regular feature, giving visitors the chance to enjoy authentic Scottish music and dancing.

Trout and salmon fishing are popular in these parts and Pitlochry is also famous for its amazing ‘fish ladder,’ an engineering marvel of tunnels and chambers enabling migrating salmon to climb over an enormous hydro-electric dam and pass safely into Loch Faskally above.

There are beautiful walks in all directions, including one to the Falls of Bruar, alongside the House of Bruar Scottish shopping experience. Golfers are also spoiled for choice.

Luxurious Malvern hideaway for larger parties, with private lake

Extended families, friends and people with something special to celebrate will love The Lake House in Malvern, a fabulously spacious timbered manor in the Worcestershire countryside. Sleeping up to 17+ guests, the house sits in 60 acres of grounds with its own lake for fishing, swimming or paddleboarding, a tennis court, terraced gardens, peaceful walks and plentiful play space for games such as football, badminton, volleyball or even hosting your very own family sports day within the gardens.

The Lake House nestles in a picturesque setting within the Malvern Hills designated Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty, now known as a National Landscape. It is totally and peacefully private, yet is only a few minutes’ drive from the attractive town of Great Malvern with its charming boutique shops, multiple restaurants, lively theatre scene, café culture – and, of course, the spa treatments which have brought it fame since Victorian times.

Marrying sophistication with charm, The Lake House has six generously-proportioned bedrooms, four bathrooms, two living rooms with log fires and a dining room with a table to seat 20 people in comfort. The kitchen is state-of-the-art, fitted with appliances including an American-style fridge freezer and a deluxe bean-tocup coffee machine.

There is indulgence in every corner, from the double ovens of the Rangemaster cooker to the sumptuous sofas and the six person Jacuzzi hot tub with built in massage jets, Bluetooth sound system and colourchanging mood lights. Expect chandeliers, fluffy towels and bathrobes, luxury toiletries and wonderful views.

It’s one of the top-rated properties on Airbnb with impeccable guest reviews, and a simply perfect place for people to spend quality time together but still have plenty of privacy for themselves. No wonder many guests choose it to host their wedding reception, perhaps booking a marquee overlooking the owner’s neighbouring vineyard.

The owners are always happy to organise special extras, such as a Michelin-trained private chef to cook an outstanding meal. Groups of friends and families often book special fun activities to be held at The Lake House, such as cocktail-making, wine tasting in the private vineyard next door, yoga, archery, clay pigeon shoring or axe throwing workshops, yoga or even Stand-Up Paddleboarding Yoga on the lake!

The local landscape inspired writers such as J R R Tolkien and C S Lewis, as well as composer Edward Elgar, whose birthplace museum is at Upper Broadheath, near Worcester. There are multiple golf courses within easy driving distance, watersports are prevalent and other local activities include horse riding, rock climbing, Land Rover experiences and treetop challenges.

A new holiday property is on its way! Set within its own discrete island within a corner of the private lake, The Island Hideaway is taking shape. Dan Frost, of The Lake House, says: “I’m so excited about The Island Hideaway! Being on its own exclusive island, it offers guests something completely different.

“People can expect complete relaxation here amongst nature, with an outside bath, a woodfired hot tub and a sauna. It should be really relaxing and they can head out for some great walks to the Malvern Hills, straight from the cabin.

“We hope it will be available to book from January 2025.

Sort stress & avoid burnout with Right Mindfulness

Nothing can inflict torture quite like the human mind, with its repertoire producing states such as anxiety, stress, insomnia, nightmares, panic attacks, phobias, poor self-esteem and exhaustion. If you’re experiencing any or many of these feelings, take heart, because the Right Mindfulness hypnotherapy, meditation and mindfulness practice can help you understand where they’re coming from and help you take back control, often surprisingly quickly.

Right Mindfulness is a Worcestershirebased service run by hypnotherapist and mindfulness coach Alan Muskett. Alan offers tools to help people overcome their unwelcome states of mind through personalised one-to-one therapy sessions, group meditation, classes, courses and wellness retreats.

These all have as their key the art of mindfulness, becoming fully aware in the present moment. The techniques expose the thoughts, actions, processes and sensations happening within, enabling us then to break free of any unwelcome influences. Stress alone can cause or contribute to a plethora of maladies from rashes to heart problems.

Right Mindfulness can help enormously with reducing stress.

One-to-one sessions are individually tailored to each individual client and can be delivered online. Clients pay as they go and can have as few or as many sessions as they like.

Professional ‘burnout’ is a particular speciality of Alan. He himself experienced this debilitating state of feeling overwhelmed, exhausted and demotivated, after spending some 30 years striving for excellence in the corporate world. Having found his way to a much happier and more fulfilling state, he has now devised and copyrighted his own dedicated coaching programme, The Burnout Ladder®, to help others overcome this increasingly common problem.

day workshop, a manual to help you become and remain mentally fit. The Burnout Ladder®, How to Thrive in a Chaotic workplace, is available through the Right Mindfulness website.

The Burnout Ladder® is a ‘roadmap’ to mental release, to help people identify which of various rungs on the Burnout Ladder® they themselves have reached and adopt strategies towards a healthier, happier and altogether more constructive way of being.

FAMILY

Never have pets been quite so much a part of a family as now, with 57% of families owning at least one and those having some 38 million between them. They are frequently included in the present-opening festivities at Christmas and, especially in the case of dogs, taken away on holiday and included in family outings.

Pet owners are increasingly aware of the need for good nutrition, making suppliers such as expert-led SweetPea’s Doggy Deli a godsend. The Au Paw provides dedicated and experienced pet and house-sitters for when it’s not possible to include the pooch(es) in away-stays.

Goodman’s Geese provides top quality geese and Bronze Turkeys raised in the very best conditions - free-grazing on pastureland in the verdant Worcestershire countryside.

For exceptional gifts and personal jewellery, check out the unique designs hand crafted from quality materials by Bridget Wheatley and if you’re seeking for New Year entertainment, you’ll find it aplenty at Redditch’s Palace Theatre, running the Sleeping Beauty panto until January 5th.

Our natural, nutritious, and balanced meals promote a longer, happier life with fewer health issues. With so many pet food options available, it’s important to read labels and avoid cheap fillers, cereals, and artificial additives. All our meals are all-natural, balanced, and designed to keep your dog healthy and thriving.

Established in 2001, Radis has grown to become a leading provider of community based social care and support, for vulnerable adults and children, in England and Wales. Radis supports many thousands of people to live independently in their own homes, providing a wide range of care and support services, for people with diverse backgrounds and needs. Each person is treated as an individual and our service tailored to them.

As well as it being holiday season, we have also entered wedding season! For the next few months, many of us will be attending the weddings of family and friends.

Whilst a happy and momentous occasion for many, weddings and big family occasions can also be somewhat difficult to organise if a family member is ill or is in receipt of care.

Whether you are a family carer or your loved one receives care from a professional care provider, there can be a lot to consider when it comes to attending a wedding.

First of all, as a family, you must decide whether the person receiving care will be attending the wedding or if they will be remaining at home.

For some, they may not be able to attend due to their health, however for others, they may just require some additional support in order to attend.

If you’re a family carer:

If you’re a family carer and are the main carer for a family member, then you may wish to enlist a short-term respite solution.

At Radis, we offer care packages that enable us to look after your loved ones for as long or as little as required. Whether the wedding is during an afternoon, overnight, a weekend or even a week – we offer a variety of services to suit each individual’s needs.

From 24/7 Live-in Care until you return to your duties as a family carer, to short but frequent visits to support with medication, mealtimes and personal hygiene, we ensure that the support received is unique and tailored to the individual. Or, we can simply offer companionship.

Alternatively, you may wish for everyone to attend as a family but as the family carer, you might like some additional support to enable you to relax and enjoy the occasion.

In this case, our care workers can assist with the following:

• Getting dressed and ready

• Travel to and from the wedding

• Leave the wedding early when they would like to go home and remain with them until family carer returns home

• Meet you at the wedding and take over the care from this point

• Assist with food and mealtimes during the day

• Sit with the individual for the duration of the occasion

• Sit out of sight and be on hand as and when needed

If your loved one already receives professional care:

Just because a person already receives professional care at home doesn’t mean we can’t provide support outside of the home.

At Radis, our care workers would be delighted to extend their care and support outside of the home and daily routines to enable your loved one to attend a truly momentous occasion, such as a wedding.

We understand the importance of families coming together, particularly when people may be of ill-health or at a later stage of life. This is why we offer our services across all and any settings.

Whether it’s a day, an evening, a weekend or a week spent away from home, our care workers will work with you every step of the way to ensure anybody receiving care feels included, supported and looked after.

How does this work?

As with anything, we undergo a thorough risk assessment and look at each individual’s need and what is required for the duration of the care.

From then, we devise a care plan and align this with a care worker that best suits the individual and their needs.

We pride ourselves on offering entirely tailored care plans, and work closely with those needing care and their families to ensure we provide nothing but the very best.

At Radis, we can provide you with solutions to support you to continue living in your own home , we can offer visiting care from our outreach services and also Live-in Care.

Live-in Care is extremely flexible and can suit people of all ages and with a range of different needs. Live-in Care is when one of our professional care workers lives with you in your home. Whether you simply need companionship, support with everyday activities or even more complex care that requires the supervision of our in-house nursing team, we can work with you to create a care plan and provide around the clock care. Wherever you are in England and Wales, we will find a care worker who fits with your personality, hobbies and interests, to provide the support you need, whenever you need it, so you can live a better quality of life in the comfort of your familiar surroundings.

If you would like to discuss the options available to you, get in touch with our friendly team call 01299 669942 or email enquiries@ radis.co.uk

Care comes in many different forms in 21st century Britain, designed to provide quality services for people of all ages, states of health and vulnerabilities. More and more organisations are able to offer bespoke services to cater not only for people’s individual needs but also for their family or others who share and support their daily lives.

Radis Community Care offers exemplary community-based support for people in their own homes, for as little or as long as required and even including live-in care as needed. It can also provide support when their client joins in with holiday breaks or stays away from home for special events such as a family wedding, so they, too, can be fully included.
