Enjoy peace of mind with bespoke estate planning

People enjoy peace of mind and financial security when they use Silvertime Legal to look after their assets and interests. The advisors of this long-established, caring company are specialists in estate planning who create bespoke packages for each individual client, covering everything from wills to Lasting Power of Attorney and frequently limiting liability for Inheritance Tax.

Silvertime Legal basically ensures that clients’ money, property, business interests and investments are protected while they are alive and distributed as they wish after they die. Advisors visit people in their own homes to get a thorough understanding of their particular position and personal wishes. They then draw up a comprehensive plan tailored to their individual needs.

These plans can include naming someone to take responsibility if the client becomes unable to make their own decisions, who would become guardian of any children left behind and how any property would be distributed after death. While assets may initially pass to their surviving spouse, for example, establishment of a Lifetime Protection Trust may ensure that the property eventually passes to whoever the client nominates, rather than the spouse.

There are many benefits to people taking up estate planning with Silvertime Legal, not least the feeling of being able to relax, knowing that their wishes are written, recorded and watertight. These tailored plans remove stress and worry, provide peace of mind for both clients and their families and very often are able to limit the tax burden attaching to larger estates. They protect assets for future generations, limit the potential for rows and disputes within the family and ensure an equitable end to the client’s affairs.

Having a plan in place early is a safeguard in case of an early or unexpected death and cuts out the many complications which can arise from someone dying without leaving a will. Estate plans can be simple or complex but can always be reviewed to keep up with changing circumstances.

To find out more, download a brochure from www.silvertimelegal.co.uk or call 0247 693 9940 to arrange a free consultation, without obligation.

Pet friendly cottages ideal for exploring Cornwall and Devon

Cornwall’s northern Atlantic coast has long been a favourite with holidaymakers of all ages, and the spacious, home-from-home cottages of Treworgie Barton Cottages are pet friendly and simply perfect for families and groups of mixed generations. Set in 36 acres of countryside with sea views and woodland, the nine properties can cater for anyone from couples or lone travellers up to groups of 35 and any number inbetween, enabling them to share quality time, celebrate a special event or retreat to their own cosy space as they wish.

Treworgie Barton Cottages are perfectly placed for exploring the numerous attractions of both Cornwall and North Devon. They’ve been created from former farm buildings only nine miles from the beautiful coastal town of Bude, a surfing hotspot with a fabulous beach, lots of independent shops and friendly places to eat, drink and socialise. (Two miles down the road is Crackington Haven.)

The cottages themselves are all selfcontained and fitted and furnished to high standards, such that they earned a Silver Award at the 2023 Cornwall Tourism Awards. They are meticulously looked after by an extended family of Midlanders who sold their three houses and relocated from Coventry to live the dream of the Cornish lifestyle and share it with their guests.

The family – Jason and Michelle Farmer and their children, Jason’s sister Lucie, her husband and children and Jason and Lucie’s

mother – always relished their holidays in this special part of the world. (Michelle has been holidaying in Cornwall with her family from the age of 13, she introduced Jason to Cornwall in 2015. Paul has family who live in Cornwall.) They look after every aspect of the business themselves, supported by highly competent and friendly staff.

Jason and Michelle live on-site in Priory Cottage and are always on hand if needed, perhaps to arrange surprise treats for a landmark birthday or anniversary celebration. Lucie and Paul live in the original farmhouse.

Jason says: “We are determined to create one of the best venues for family time, quiet retreat, merry functions and essential recreation that Cornwall has ever seen.

“Many of our projects are already underway, and inspiration for new ones is easy to find in this astonishingly beautiful and unique setting.”

Wonderful walks start straight from the site, including a seven miler to pretty Boscastle, rebuilt after a dramatic flood in 2004. Local places of interest range from the steep cobbled village of Clovelly to outstanding gardens such as RHS Rosemoor, Pencarrow House and Lanhydrock and adventure venues including the Milky Way Theme Park, North Devon Wake Park and Cornish Coasteering. The legend of King Arthur is dramatically told at the clifftop ruins of Tintagel Castle.

Victorian doctor William Penny encouraged healthy exercise among the locals by launching Wenlock Olympian Games in 1860. That in turn inspired French educator Baron Pierre de Coubertin to start the 4-yearly sporting spectacle we now enjoy globally as The Olympics.

North Yorkshire has so much to offer for people of any and every temperament, from those who love simply pootling about with the kids on beautiful North Sea beaches to those who like striding out across breathtaking wolds, dales, moorland and woods.

Guests also have exclusive use of the principal reception room and, if desired, use of the south facing garden. Union Place benefits from on-street parking as well as garage parking to the rear of the property.

This very individual house is a well known landmark on the Open Top Bus tour of Whitby due to its splendid ‘bottle window’ which runs down the property’s north façade.

Historic hall within walking distance of Whitby

Historic Ailsaby Hall is an outstanding holiday home in rural Yorkshire, just 1.5 miles inland from the highly popular seaside town of Whitby with its famous clifftop abbey, cobbled streets and amazing maritime history. The hall stands in nine acres of superb grounds within the North Yorkshire Moors National Park, overlooking the beautiful Esk Valley. It can be rented along with a neighbouring property, the Garden Apartment, to sleep up to 14 people.

Ailsaby Hall has been in the Harrowing family since 1847, but was occupied by the Army during World War two and accidentally burned down. It was rebuilt in 1955, but completely redesigned after a major pipe burst in 2017 into what is now a thoroughly modern and pleasing holiday let, especially for larger families and, of course, their pets!

The hall itself can sleep 10 with its five spacious bedrooms, including two with en-suite bathrooms and superking beds that can be converted into singles. There is also a third, family bathroom. Downstairs facilities include a cosy sitting room with TV and an open fire, a modern kitchen with breakfast bar, a separate dining room, a games room equipped for pool and darts and a playroom for younger children. High end appliances ensure that everyone can share quality time, including a coffee machine and an American-style fridge with built-in ice maker.

The cosy Garden Apartment, also well equipped, sleeps four in two en-suite double bedrooms. It can be rented separately, but when taken along with the hall is often relished by older teenagers or by grandparents holidaying with their children’s families. It has its own outdoor area as well as shared use of the wider grounds and is a delightful place to wake up and welcome a new day, surrounded by natural beauty.

Guests love spending time enjoying the properties themselves, along with the grounds, which include walled gardens. There is a scenic, half-hour walk through the nearby village of Ruswarp into the very heart of Whitby town centre, where there is much to enjoy including harbour cruises, independent shops, family entertainment and great restaurants. Buses run through the village of Aislaby from Scarborough to Middlesbrough, perfect for a day out further afield.

Many Ailsaby guests head for the popular seaside resorts of Scarborough, Saltburn-by-the-Sea and Staithes, as well staying closer to home to enjoy the river boating, miniature railway and kids’ soft play area and local pub in Ruswarp. They also ride the North York Moors heritage railway from its restored station in pretty Pickering up to Whitby or vice versa, perhaps stopping off at Goathland, known as ‘Heartbeat’ territory after the TV police series. Ailsaby Hall was often used for filming.

Norfolk Escapes

Maritime history plays a big part in Norfolk, as might be expected after what is proudly nicknamed ‘Nelson’s County’ after heroic naval commander Lord Horatio Nelson, born in Burnham Thorpe. However, it is not Nelson who is celebrated in King’s Lynn but the naval commander, explorer and mapmaker George Vancouver, born there in 1757 and now giving his name to a great Canadian city.

Visitors can follow the remarkable heritage of King’s Lynn via fine old merchants’ houses, harbour and Custom House dating from the 12 century when it was part of Europe’s lucrative Hanseatic League trading co-operative.

From there, cyclists can enjoy Rebellion Way, a 232 mile circular route from Norwich following in the chariot tracks of warrior queen Boudicca, including the fabulous seaside towns of Hunstanton – with its west-facing beach famous for stunning sunsets - Wells Next the Sea, Brancaster and pretty villages such as Thornham, near the famous RSPB Reserve of Titchwell Marsh.

KINGS LYNN KELLING,

Violet Cottage forms part of The Old Dairy, Kelling, and is built in the traditional Norfolk brick and flint manner, with red pan-tiled roof.

Whilst retaining some of its original features here and there, Violet Cottage has been carefully updated and equipped to provide a comfortable holiday rental for up to four guests, just 5 minutes’ drive north of the charming Norfolk market town of Holt and a few minutes’ drive from the North Norfolk coast at Salthouse and Weybourne. Sheringham, Cromer, Wellsnext-the-Sea and Blakeney are also all within easy reach from the peaceful setting of Violet Cottage Kelling. We welcome children aged 7+ and one larger or up to two smaller furry friends.

A stylish and well equipped apartment, explore the town, tour the region, enjoy great views, and have the freedom to self-cater. You can use the free parking space close by, or come by bike or public transport. King’s Lynn has the great advantage of being easily accessible by bus and train.

You will access the Gallery Penthouse (sleeps two +) through its own entrance and 3 flights of industrial style staircase shared with the gallery. However, once you are inside it is completely private. It is spacious selfcontained, and largely open plan, with inter-connecting livingbedroom and kitchen-dining room and a bath-shower room. Although the rooms flow through to one another, they are quite distinct spaces and feel selfcontained. Thanks to its insulation and double-glazed windows, it is peaceful and quiet. Above all, it has some of the best views in King’s Lynn, over to the Custom House, South Quay and the Great Ouse River and Queen Street.

Our beautifully restored, 200-year-old character cottage is in the heart of the coastal village of Thornham. It has been tastefully furnished with everything you’ll need to enjoy a relaxing break in Norfolk. With three bedrooms (two king-size and one single), a spacious lounge with log burner, and an eat-in kitchen, there’s plenty of room for all the family. Plus it’s dog-friendly too.

Outside, there’s a large, secure and secluded garden – ideal for young children and dogs. It’s a great spot for summer days, to enjoy a barbecue, or to sit back and take in the sea air.

Apart from the ‘immortal jellyfish,’ the one creature on earth, apparently, that can revert back to an earlier part of its lifecycle, age is going to keep creeping up on all of us, right to the inevitable end. Nevertheless, it’s quite possible to age youthfully. With effort, know-how and the right attitude, it’s entirely possible to stay young at heart, relatively healthy and passably unwrinkled late into the twilight years.

Everything starts in the mind. Keep that happily occupied and the body will follow. You have to give it reasons to be cheerful, and interested in … well anything, really. But the easiest way to stay cheerful, and optimistic – qualities that greatly enhance youthful energy – is to stay connected with other people. Go out.

Socialise. Catch up with old friends. Make new ones. Join a club. Learn something new.

Cerys is so professional in the entire delivery of your treatment. She makes you feel at ease, no matter your age, from the first meeting, talking you through the whole process, discussing your goals and expectations. I'm so pleased with the results and as a 63 year old male client, I was so happy that I went to her. Her reviews really do speak for themselves and I have no hesitation in recommending Cerys. it's so reassuring with her medical background to know you are in safe hands. She really does know her stuff.

This incredible space opened at the end of 2023 and is already proving popular with art collectors and those who love to try different art workshops!

Have you ever wanted to paint your very own stunning flower field inspired by the beautiful Confetti Fields in Wick? Now’s you’re chance!

Inspiring others and building confidence is why I love to teach. Many who have attended my workshops continue to paint. The act of being creative feeds your soul and allows you time to be totally present. It is in this moment I witness a positive change in a students perception of their capabilities within art. In turn this seems to activate a new way of thinking. Breaking down negative beliefs and replacing them with positive outcomes opens your heart and mind. Never underestimate the power of conversation across the art table!

Peter the Bee and Friends

Active since 2019 to help reduce the decline of our pollinators, we are dedicated growers of insect friendly native wildflowers. Our nursery is also our home in the beautiful Wyre Forest and we grow everything without the use of peat, herbicide or pesticide.

Our vision is that everyone should have a few wildflowers in their gardens even if it’s just a balcony or a window box. We believe that even small actions by many people will make a positive difference. Here at the wildflower nursery, we grow around 150 different species some common and others less so. We sell our plants primarily at plant fairs, farmers markets and environmental events.
