NEW AMBITIONS FOR DRAKE’S ISLAND IN PLYMOUTH
Devon businessman and owner of Drake’s Island, Morgan Phillips, has purchased the six-acre fortress located off the coast of Plymouth. He is now planning for the future of the island, looking to build two hotels, a museum, and a well-being centre on it. Drake’s Island was named after Sir Francis Drake, who set sail from there in 1577 to circumnavigate the globe – and Mr Phillips says there are no plans to ever change the name of the island which is an integral part of the city’s history.

THE MOLE RESORT IN DEVON SET TO UNVEIL ENERGY POSITIVE LODGE
As part of its ongoing commitment to the environment and target to be a Net Zero resort, L+R Hotels has designed a ground-breaking Energy Positive Lodge for its newest development, The Mole Resort in Devon.
The lodge produces more energy than it consumes – generating its energy through an array of solar PV panels and with a fabricfirst approach at the heart of its design. A showcase of sustainable development and energy efficiency, this innovative lodge allows guests to play their part in tackling the climate crisis by offering them a stay at the Mole Resort, knowing they will not only be in a lodge that is first of its kind but also setting new standards in green energy.
Features of the Energy Positive Lodge include:
•Shower heat recovery – a heat system that works by extracting the heat from waste water from baths and showers. This is used to heat the incoming mains water for showers, reducing the requirement for the energy to heat water to temperature.
•Sustainable lighting is used throughout the lodge.
ENJOY A DEVONSHIRE MINI-MOON IN A VINTAGE AMERICAN AIRSTREAM WITH FINEST RETREATS
Couples wanting a mini-moon in Devon will love the 1956 vintage American airstream available to book through Finest Retreats. The classic trailer is a Sovereign of the Road model that’s hidden away in a secluded corner within a private woodland setting in the Dartmoor hills offering quirky accommodation for two people. It boasts a large outdoor deck with a dining table and chairs, a parasol, a barbecue, sun loungers, a double hammock, outdoor chess and table football, and an indulgent outdoor oak Japanese wood-fired spa bath. There’s also a smart TV, sound system, Wi-fi, combination oven, induction hob, fridge, dishwasher, power shower, and even under-floor heating and air conditioning. Short stays are available with a minimum of two nights. To book, visit www.finestretreats.co.uk/ rentals/chalet-dittisham-vintage-american-airstream
•Mechanical Ventilation with Heat Recovery (MVHR) systems use a heat exchanger to capture the warmth of stale air from inside the building to heat the incoming air and are highly efficient - up to 85% of energy is retained.
•Insulation - high-performing and well-insulated building fabric has been used.
•Triple glazing - the third pane of glass located halfway between the inner and outer panes of double glazing, creates two air locks which improve the energy performance of regular double glazing by around 50%.
•High-Temperature Air Source Heat Pump (ASHP) - used as part of an efficient all-electric heating solution which includes heating the hot tub - ERP rated A++
•Sunamp - heat batteries use a patented phase change material that provides a low-carbon, reliable space-saving thermal battery storage system. The energy is released to deliver hot water.
•7KW electric vehicle charging point.
Many of the features have been adopted on other lodges at the resort, delivering an average reduction in CO2 of 43.68%. John Allen, development director at L+R Hotels, commented: “People are aware of the climate crisis as the greatest challenge facing our society at the moment. Being eco-conscious is at the heart of everything we do, and I believe this lodge is leading the change in terms of green buildings in the leisure sector - we think it’s the first of its kind.”
He added, “Our team spoke at the early stages of The Mole about the design, and is committed to reducing the environmental impact of the construction, to provide cleaner, more sustainable developments for future generations. I genuinely believe we’re the first to offer this to the holiday lodge market and we’re sure with such exceptional green credentials it will be very popular.”

Falmouth has once again been recognised as one of the ‘go-to’ destinations in the UK. The creative coastal town has been highlighted as one of the most luxurious travel destinations and also featured in the respected online lifestyle magazine Muddy Stiletto’s ‘Best Places to Live’ list within the Cornwall region.
Richard Wilcox, executive director of Falmouth Business Improvement District (BID) said: “It’s great news that Falmouth has been included in these listings for its many quality-led experiences. These recognitions reinforce the proactive town partnerships and sophisticated businesses that continue to think innovatively within such a challenging environment. The ongoing investment by our excellent hoteliers and accommodation providers and the wide range of brilliant independent food and drink, retail and coastal lifestyle businesses that have opened here, has in turn, attracted even more creative and entrepreneurial enterprises to our dynamic port town.”
“Furthermore, as the Business Improvement District and Town Team, we have undertaken a range of innovative projects, a year-round festivals programme, excellent digital platforms, an active cruise ships schedule and more to drive year-round interest and investment. Outdoor ceremonies take place under the wooden lakeside gazebo perched on the side of the lake surrounded by rolling countryside. It accommodates up to 150 guests under a stretch canopy lit with romantic festoon lighting. Alternatively, the rustic-inspired barn with original stone walls offers an indoor option with its hand-crafted wooden fixtures and fittings adding to the ambience for up to 150 guests and receptions also take place here.

HATCH MARQUEE HIRE, AVAILABLE ACROSS THE SOUTH WEST
These marquees offer the very latest in design and are tailor-made for each event. The team help couples choose a venue through their online marquee venue listing for both regions where a range of locations are offered, from field sites against the backdrop of spectacular coastal views to some of the finest country houses in the South West.
The frame or Clearspan marquees are free-standing structures without any centre poles or guy ropes which means that they fit into their own footprint and are great if a little tight on space. They can be installed onto a variety of surfaces and are the perfect equipment for exposed sites (coastal or hilltop) as frame marquees can withstand higher wind speeds which makes them the best option for both summer and winter weddings.
Frame marquees are available in three-metre, six-metre, nine-metre, 12-metre and 15-metre widths and can be designed to suit the number of guests and the layout required. The marquees interlock neatly giving enormous flexibility to create bespoke venues with separate spaces for dining reception and dance areas, bars, and catering tents. There’s also a broad range of equipment to style the structures with.
Clear roofs help define the different spaces within a marquee and are often used as a feature over a dancefloor, revealing the stars! Alternatively, they can be used to create a bar or reception area either as part of the main marquee or as a marquee bubble attached to the main marquee.
Ceremony licence? No, but couples use a marquee for a blessing or humanist service in which case we can provide a layout which allows space for ceremony seating.

•We love… that couples can book a completely clear marquee for a uniquely different feel that lends itself to feature lighting and hanging decorations.

SPRING INTO SUMMER AT THE ST MORITZ HOTEL AND COWSHED SPA IN TREBETHERICK, CORNWALL
The St Moritz Hotel first opened in the 1940s when city dwellers rejoiced in the opportunity to get away and feel the freedom and vital fresh air benefits of both the coast and country. More recently in 2009, under the guidance of brothers Hugh and Steve Ridgway, the St Moritz Hotel that’s located on the North Cornish coast was reborn. Taking their creative 21st-century approach to the original experience, they rebuilt the building
alongside Cornish designers Absolute, following the classic styling of the Art Deco era, re-imagining the ultimate coastal hotel holiday experience for global travellers and holidaymakers of all ages. Think delicious dinners, full Cornish breakfasts, mocktails and cocktails plus signature Cowshed massages or facials in the Cowshed Spa (the only one you’ll find outside of a Soho House) and you get the idea. Various packages are available to book, at www.stmoritzhotel.co.uk

OVER ON THE EAST SIDE...
Fowey Hall, a historic Victorian mansion overlooking the Fowey estuary and part of the Luxury Family Hotels collection, will relaunch in late spring, positioning it as one of the leading family hotels in Cornwall. After a full property refurbishment in 2020, a further 20 contemporary bedrooms will be added and - the jewel in the crown - four expansive new Bay Suites will sit atop the renovated spa, with commanding sea views from elevated, private balconies. The suites allow the spectacular views to be the main focus, are contemporary in design and boast natural, earthy materials and textures that are perfectly complemented by warm accents of brass and burnt orange upholstery. A new outdoor pool will also open with sea views, making Fowey Hall one of the very few luxury hotels on the south Cornish coast to offer this facility.
Fowey Hall is part of Luxury Family Hotels, a collection of five familyfocused properties across southern England. From babies through to teens, expectant parents to grandparents and even dog owners, all age groups and families of every genre are thoughtfully considered and catered for with an incredible range of amenities and facilities. From a milk butler service with the delivery of sterilised and heated bottles of milk and the provision of all the equipment parents could need, to a dedicated children’s library and cinema with daily screenings complete with popcorn, Fowey Hall encourages families to spend quality time together, safe in the knowledge that all the little things are taken care of.
Fowey Hall also offers 90 minutes of complimentary childcare per
night’s stay at their on-site Ofsted-registered Four Bears Den, indoor and outdoor swimming pools, and a newly refurbished spa with treatments from organic seaweed skincare brand, Ishga. The restaurant features classic dishes for the whole family, with ingredients from local suppliers and a focus on seafood, as well as an intimate bar overlooking the sea and cosy lounges for evening cocktails once the children are tucked up in bed, watching a film in the cinema room or playing with friends in the games room.
The hotel is located within an Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty, a few minutes walk away from the fishing port of Fowey, which offers renowned restaurants such as Fitzroy (from the team behind Primeur, Jolene and Western’s Laundry) and Appleton’s (from Andy Appleton, former head chef at Jamie Oliver’s Fifteen Cornwall) alongside numerous art galleries and boutiques. A ten-minute walk away lies the sheltered cove of ReadyMoney, with sandy shores and calm, waters complete with an anchored bathing platform during the summer months. The hotel will furnish families with buckets, spades and fishing nets for a day spent at the beach.
Luxury Family Hotels acknowledge that families come in all different shapes and sizes, and for many, dogs are very much part of the fold. Every dog is greeted with a woof welcome pack and can also enjoy dishes from their ‘a la bark’ menu and Waggy Tails Tea Time, complete with a puppacino.

Melissa and Joshua Stone married on 10th September 2022 at Shilstone in Devon.
Melissa
and Joshua met via the dating app Hinge and enjoyed their first date at the Cross Keys in Chelsea, London. “Joshua had asked me out for a coffee, but I don’t drink coffee, so I told him if he wanted to see me on a Sunday, it would have to involve a Sunday roast!” Melissa tells us. “From the very beginning, it was clear we had the same thoughts on everything – morals, work ethics, family values and similar interests including skiing, wine and walks in the country.”
The couple became engaged on 4th November 2020 which was their second anniversary and the eve of the November 2020 lockdown. “Joshua had planned a weekend in the Cotswolds to coincide with our mid-week anniversary - we had visited the Cotswolds to celebrate our anniversary the year previous and had decided to make it a tradition,” Melissa tells us. “When the lockdown was announced a few days in advance on a Saturday, little did I know that he went into both panic and action mode! Not knowing whether it would last for one month as planned, he wanted to ensure that we still went on the trip. He convinced me to swap my holiday days at work and for us to go away from Tuesday until Wednesday. He proposed on one knee during a walk around Blenheim Palace. We were in the middle of Bladon Bridge and it was a crisp November day with the sun shining against the blue sky. There were swans in the water on either side of the bridge and considering that Joshua had never been there before, he had to choose a spot, on impulse, and it couldn’t have been more perfect.”
We drove back to London after the proposal where we had a reservation for dinner at the Cross Keys – we have continued going there every November since our first date. The atmosphere was electric, and to be back where we met the day we got engaged couldn’t have been more romantic.”
SETTING THE SCENE
The couple knew that they wanted to get married in Devon, despite neither of them growing up there. “At the time, my parents had a holiday home between Dartmouth and Salcombe so we stayed there for our first weekend away as a couple,” Melissa tells us. “Since then, we have made fond memories in Devon.”
Due to the lockdowns, the couple drove to the region and did back-to-back viewings at venues over two days. “Shilstone was the last one that we viewed and as we approached the driveway, even in the rain we both knew instantly that it was the venue for us,” Melissa tells us. “It showcased such incredible views.”
Melissa and Joshua’s table plan was produced by Unique Design By Tina. “We were very grateful to them for accommodating several cancellations the day before due to

“The late arrival of the bridesmaid’s transport caused plenty of stress – I’m often known for being a little late, but I ended up being 40 minutes late! Luckily, we were legally married at the Kingsbridge Registry Office the afternoon before to enable us to have a service conducted by a celebrant who we had built a relationship with, which meant Joshua knew I wasn’t abandoning him at the alter and we were all trying to text and communicate the delay!” - Melissa

“We had a pre-wedding rehearsal dinner at the Beach House on South Milton Sands with our dearest and dearest, just after we were legally married (although we kept that secret). This was a lovely, informal way to start the weekend. My two family dogs were able to join too, which meant the world to me. Sadly one of them, Keira, passed away a month later at the age of 15. Looking back on pictures I have from her at the Beach House are so special and it made me feel like she had held on for our wedding.” - Melissa
illness!” Melissa tells us. “We also had stunning white cherry blossom trees from them which made such an impact in the marquee. The team at Unique Designs by Tina and our florist, Caroline Hodges collaborated to transform the marquee and some of our guests commented that they felt like they were in an episode of Bridgerton which we took as a big compliment!”
The couple’s table names were after some of their favourite places in the area written in calligraphy and displayed on white wooden signs suspended from the branches of the cherry blossom trees. “We commissioned oyster shell place names adorned with gold leaf and calligraphy writing,” Melissa says. “Our favours were glass bottles of homemade, rosemary-infused olive oil for our guests to take home.”
Melissa and Joshua’s florist, Caroline, stuck to their brief of using eucalyptus and white blooms to coordinate with the colour theme. “I wanted beautiful flowers with a classic bouquet,” Melissa says. “I carried a bridal bouquet of white hydrangeas and my bridesmaids had white gypsophila in theirs. We also had eucalyptus runners on the tables, with the top table featuring a more elaborate set-up containing hydrangeas to match my bouquet.”
The talented team at Shilstone provided the catering and the couple chose a wedding cake of cheese from Sharpham Cheese. “They hosted us for a tasting a couple of months before our wedding to select the cheese for each layer which was a great idea,” Melissa says.
LOOKING THE PART
Melissa wore a dress purchased from the Bridal Rogue Gallery in Marylebone, London. “I had been trying dresses on for months but with six months to go until the wedding, I still hadn’t chosen one. I knew the shape and neckline that I liked so I typed this into an Instagram search and within fifteen minutes, I had three new options, all in my price range. I emailed the stockists to see if they had the dresses and as luck would have it, the Bridal Rogue Gallery stocked two of the brands and had both dresses available to try on. The other dress was down in North Devon and so I ended up driving a 10-hour round trip to realise it wasn’t the one!”
Melissa chose the Milan dress by the designer Freda Bennet and had a statement bow added at the back. “I also had the train lengthened because I’m tall, and tweaks made to the neckline and straps,” she tells us. “I accessorised it with a pair of baroque pearl earrings and a gold bracelet with J&M entwined in the centre that I commissioned from my friend Gabby who has a
27 REAL WEDDINGS
jewellery design company. I also wore my grandmother’s plain gold wedding band – sadly she passed away a few years ago so it was lovely to involve her memory in such a special occasion. I also carried my dream bag – a giant pearl from Simone Rocha which I purchased the week we got engaged. I had admired it for ages and felt that I could finally justify it.”
Joshua wore a morning suit and matched his waistcoat to the colour of the bridesmaids’ dresses. The ushers wore their own morning suits and waistcoats and all of the male bridal party had a white rose buttonhole on their lapels. “Our bridesmaids all wore sage-green dresses,” Melissa says. “I wanted loose-fitting dresses so they felt relaxed and could eat and drink as much as they wanted later in the day – I also chose fabrics which didn’t crease.”
TIME TO CELEBRATE
The couple had a soul band called Soul Funktion who played two sets. “We also had a DJ named Steve, who doubled up as our sound engineer and was such a pleasure to work with and followed our carefully curated playlist,” Melissa says.

Carina and Matt’s wedding enjoyed the stunning backdrop of Harefield Barn which was styled with soft pink, peach and forest green-coloured touches
Images courtesy of Passion4Photos Wedding Photographer
Carina and Matt met on a night out in Manchester when they were both at university and have been a couple for ten years. “It was our friend, Chris’ 21st birthday when we met so naturally he was one of the ushers at our wedding!” they tell us. Matt proposed during a trip that he planned as a surprise for Carina’s 28th birthday. “It was exactly 51 weeks before our wedding then took place,” Carina says. “There was a cabin by a lake with a hot tub and champagne where we were staying. Matt had called our parents the week before to tell them and ask for their blessing so the proposal was a wonderful surprise and perfect in every way.”
Carina and Matt wanted to get married in Devon where Carina is from so here she tells us all about their magical day at Harefield Barn in Crediton.
31 REAL WEDDINGS
Carina and Matthew (Matt) Ripley-Taylor married on 10th September 2022 at Harefield Barn in Devon.
The owner of Harefield Barn, Deborah put so much thought and attention into making the barn feel warm and welcoming for us, and we loved the variety of different spaces available. Harefield Barn is a truly beautiful venue with so much potential to make it your own!
We wanted a venue where we could hold both the ceremony and reception and where the focus could be on enjoying the beauty of Devon with our family and friends. Harefield Barn was the first venue we viewed and we knew straight away that it was the one.
We wrote our own vows. We did it separately and didn’t share them with each other until the ceremony. It was so beautiful to hear how very similar they were on the day.
From the beginning of our wedding planning journey, the most important thing to both of us was to create a day which reflected us and was going to feel easy and fun for our guests. We both have big, close- knit families and were so excited for everyone to meet. Our parents and siblings were a huge part of the planning and we loved looking around on our wedding day to see the little touches that represented them all.
Just before I walked down the aisle, my dad whispered in my ear what a wonderful decision he thought I was making which was such a memorable moment for me.
Because we live in Yorkshire and Matt is from there, we chose Henderson’s Relish, a quintessentially Sheffield condiment as our favours to bring an element of Yorkshire into our Devon-based day. Matt’s mum, Julie spent time peeling off the old stickers on each bottle and replacing them with our custom-made wedding stickers.
32
We kept the décor of the day simple with a focus on the flowers and small DIY touches such as the table names which I made by hand.
My sisters, Izzy and Zoe were my bridesmaids and we knew from the start that they didn’t want to wear the same thing. Zoe wanted to wear a suit which Izzy’s green floral dress ended up complementing perfectly. I loved that they looked like a pair whilst celebrating their individuality.
My sister, Zoe and her partner Maisie made the wooden heart-shaped place names using a wood-burning tool. We tied them around the condiment bottles that we gifted as favours!
Pippa, my godmother did a reading during the ceremony based on a questionnaire that she gave us leading up to the wedding. It was heartfelt, personal and the perfect moment to look out at our friends and family and take in the ceremony.
I wanted plenty of flowers so my dad contributed lots of floral ideas as well as growing some of the table flowers for us which turned out perfectly!
Our cake tasted delicious and we loved that the designer was able to incorporate real flower petals into the decoration. She also provided tasty gluten-free cupcakes for a few of our guests with dietary requirements.
We named our tables after berries which are Matt’s favourite food. I drew pictures of them to create our table plan, table name cards and centrepieces.
Matt, his brother, James who was his best man and their dad, Richard all wore the same dark blue three-piece suits with green silk ties. The male bridal party accessorised their suits with custom-made cufflinks featuring the coordinates of Harefield Barn. Matt also wore a Seiko watch which I gifted him as an engagement present.
33 REAL WEDDINGS
“My mum and I spent months leading up to the wedding creating crepe paper flowers which were glued to a branch foraged from a friend’s garden to create the blossom tree that hung behind the top table during our wedding breakfast. We live a five-hour drive apart so it was a nice way to feel connected with wedding planning in the lead-up!” - Carina
After the wedding, we dried the bridal bouquet which was used by Bella Fiori UK to make coasters as a lasting keepsake of our special day.
We visited an open day at Harefield Barn where we were able to see it decorated with a light canopy. We booked the supplier immediately because we loved the soft, romantic glow it added to the space as the sun went down.
I picked the first dress that I tried on because I instantly fell in love with it! Before the appointment, I didn’t have a strong idea of what I wanted and this dress made me feel beautiful.
“Astridge catering was recommended to us by a friend and Paul from the company was great from start to finish. He listened to our ideas and created a menu that reflected our favourite foods. The mini cream teas tasted delicious and went down very well with our northern family! The individual pies were perfect and went well with the Henderson’s relish. The catering company also provided a chilli station in the evening – however, Matt was so busy dancing he forgot to try any!” -
Carina and Matt
I teamed my dress with a family heirloom - a veil that was first worn by my great-grandmother in 1923. It has since been worn by my granny, aunt and cousin all of whom have gone on to have long, happy marriages and I loved having it as a reminder of their support.
We had lawn games and a firepit in the evening. Everyone enjoyed toasting marshmallows!
Dancing, especially with my sisters, in particular a long-forgotten dance to a 5ive song that we made up as children was a very special moment for me.
All three speeches were sweet, funny and so full of love. We didn’t have a wedding videographer, but it’s the one part we wish we could watch again and again.

THE SEASON FOR LOVERS
Demelza and Iain’s summer wedding in Plymouth enjoyed a colourful peacock theme mixing purple, navy and teal Images courtesy of Jane Austin Romance Photography

Demelza Jarvis and Iain Channing married on 1st June 2022 at St Elizabeth’s House Boutique Hotel in Plymouth, Devon.
Demelza and Iain met at university in 2005 where they were both in the same class for English Literature together. “In the final six months of the course, we were introduced by a mutual friend, Debbie,” Demelza tells us. “We spent a few months as friends first, working on finishing our dissertations and studying a module on American Literature. After impressing me with Keats poetry and cartwheels on the lawn, Iain asked me out after the ball to celebrate coming to the end of our time at university. Our unofficial first date was a hot chocolate at Macdonald’s! This was quickly followed by a proper first date at Mount Edgecombe Country Park where Iain had prepared an amazing picnic for us. I was too nervous to eat very much, although he stole my heart by packing real glasses for the picnic!”
The couple became engaged during a surprise Christmas proposal. “Iain surprised me on Christmas Day in 2007,” Demelza tells us. “After I kept unknowingly putting off exchanging presents until the end of Christmas Day, he was patiently waiting (along with both sets of parents who knew about the proposal) to be able to give me a DVD. He had worked hard to create a documentary-style film where he was the presenter. He had visited various places around Plymouth, creating a historical timeline of our relationship and showing all of our favourite spots. The video ended with him asking what was next for Demelza and Iain and to look inside the book on the table where he had carved out a gap in a copy of Jane Austen’s Pride and Prejudice and inside was an engagement ring. Of course, I said “yes” but it was a long engagement and we didn’t start planning the wedding until after the pandemic.”
SETTING THE SCENE
The couple looked at various wedding venues online and wanted to marry local to Plymouth, where they are both from. “We also wanted a venue where everything could take place at one location,” Demelza explains. “We viewed St Elizabeth’s House and both fell in love with it right away. It’s such a beautiful venue and it’s hard to believe that you’re in the centre of Plympton because it’s so quiet! When we went for the tour at the venue, we thought the gardens were outstanding and Iain loved the outdoor area to get married. Inside the venue, the Darcy room was meant to be for us with the purple sofas matching our colour theme and the Pride and Prejudice link to the proposal. We viewed some of the bedrooms too, and they looked amazing boasting a jacuzzi
“Our wedding was the best day for both of us and we wouldn’t have changed a thing. I was determined not to be a bridezilla and it was the best attitude to enjoy the day - I didn’t feel nervous at all. It was a wonderful feeling to be surrounded by family and friends who we love and share our special day with them. There were so many highlights – the weather was perfect and meant we could have our ceremony outside which Iain had hoped for, the venue looked pictureperfect and our guests were able to move around, enjoying the games we had hired.”

bath in the bridal suite. I loved the staircase for our big-day photos and the staff put us at ease right away so we left knowing that we had found our perfect venue.”
On the big day itself, Demelza walked down the aisle, holding her dad’s arm, to Pachelbel’s Canon. “Seeing Iain turn around to look at me and all the happy faces of our guests was an incredible moment,” Demelza tells us. “The ceremony was very personal with us saying our vows and both of our sisters doing a reading. Our son, Shaun walked back down the aisle with us and there was so much love, laughter and even a few tears during the ceremony. A few guests have told us since that it was the best wedding they have been to and that makes us so happy.”
Demelza and Iain chose a rich colour palette of peacockinspired shades including purple, navy and teal to decorate their day with. “I loved sourcing pieces from Facebook Marketplace to use for our big day, so our table plan and welcome sign were created on large secondhand mirrors that I purchased,” Demelza tells us. “For the welcome sign, I got crafty with a glue gun and buttons in our colour theme that I stuck around the edge of the frame. The table plan cards were ordered from a supplier on eBay and personalised by adding peacock ribbon. I used a calligraphy pen for the place names written using the same font that I had used on our wedding invites. Each table name referenced a joke from our favourite comedian, Tim Vine. We used this to work with a canvas picture on each table showing the name with a photo of our two cats, Missy and Sheldon as we wanted them to be included in the day even though they couldn’t be there.”
The centrepieces were a combination of large and small bottles filled with LED lights and plaited ribbons in the couple’s chosen colours, along with a peacock decoration on each table. “We had matching balloons in peacock-inspired colours placed on the tables too, along with I spy cards of photos for our guests to take and upload using our hashtag,” Demelza says. “On the top table, we re-used a peacock statue and other themed bits that my bridal party had gathered for the hen do.”
The couple made their favours which were a combination of sunflower seeds designed to let love grow gifted with homemade fudge in two different flavours. They had a wedding postbox for their cards which incorporated a camera for guests to take selfie shots, as well as a help-yourself station for bubbles and glow sticks. “We also had a memory ladder because we wanted to include our loved ones who are no longer with us,” Demelza tells us. “We displayed the photos on a white ladder along with lights, LOVE letters and an angel wing candle.”
Demelza’s mum did an incredible job with the wedding flowers. “I wanted button bouquets for our bridesmaids to match the colours of their dresses and she created these using buttons and brooches,” Demelza says. “My bouquet contained artificial lilies, with a brooch from my gran concealed on the ribbon as my something old. My mum also made the buttonholes using peacock feathers for our guests; a stunning archway in the signature colours with feathers that we displayed as a backdrop for the outdoor ceremony, and the chair sashes.”
The catering was prepared by the team at the venue. “It was

“The reception went smoothly, the service was faultless and I loved our speeches. A wonderful moment towards the end of the night was having fun with the sparklers in the garden as it got dark. Our guests loved it and it was a great way to bring everyone together for some evening photos.” - Demelza
delicious and we struggled to pick the menu choices for the threecourse wedding breakfast because they were so good!” Demelza says. “Our favourites were the fig salad, roast beef with a Yorkshire pudding and crème brulee for dessert. For our evening buffet, we enjoyed a barbecue theme and our guests all complimented us on how good the food was. We also surprised them with a sweet Ferris wheel that was filled with sweets including Just Married rock. Iain got creative making a wall of crisps with packets attached with pegs for our hungry guests to help themselves which proved to be a great idea!”
The couple had a three-tier cake coordinated with their peacock theme. Each layer tasted different, with a peanut butter tier, a salted caramel one plus strawberries and prosecco cake. I used an Etsy supplier to create wooden peg people of us with our son, Shaun as cake toppers and we also had clay impressions of our two cats.”
LOOKING THE PART
Demelza knew that she wanted a full-length, A-line dress with lacy sleeves and a V-neck. “The team at Bridal Reloved were excellent,” Demelza tells us. “I knew that the first dress I tried on was the one - I fell in love with it right away. I tried a few more but knew I had to go back to the first one which ticked all the boxes. I accessorised it with a sparkly crystal belt and when I had the alterations done, they were able to attach the belt. I chose a peacock feather hair clip, a friend lent me their tiara as my something borrowed plus I wore a pair of sparkly heels. Iain and I also had a pair of matching flat shoes from Rocket Dog for our first dance.”
Iain chose a navy suit that he teamed with a pair of Joe Brown shoes in keeping with the colour theme. “He stood out from the others in a silver waistcoat,” Demelza tells us. “Our groomsmen had matching navy suits and so did our youngest pageboy, who was only two years old. He stole the show by combining his suit with a cowboy hat on the day and he couldn’t have looked cuter! The groom, best men and the rest of the groomsmen all had the different teal, purple and navy ties which reflected the peacock colours.”
Demelza wanted three different colours for the bridesmaids’ dresses so the peacock theme was perfect for this. “My maid-of-honour was dressed in teal green and my two bridesmaids in navy and purple,” she tells us. “They all had full-length dresses but the style of each was slightly different and suited each one perfectly. Our flower girl was in a shorter navy dress, which showed off her glittery shoes perfectly.”
TIME TO CELEBRATE
The couple’s evening entertainment was courtesy of Demelza’s newly retired boss, Paul who plays live music as Rick the Stick. “The music perfectly suited what we wanted and everyone was up and up dancing and having a great time,” Demelza tells us. “Paul surprised Iain with a mix of two special songs as we walked into the wedding breakfast. Also, our first dance was a highlight of the day! We wanted to surprise our guests so we started with a slow dance to Tale as Old as Time which morphed into Erasure’s Stop. It was a perfect mix of songs that were special to us, and we had a few weeks of choreographed dance lessons at the Plymouth Dance Academy which meant we were able to show off some moves! We might not have been perfect, but our guests loved it!”
“Our photographer, Jane was brilliant - she felt like part of a family and created some perfect photo memories for us. Tamsin the videographer was fantastic too, she stepped in at short notice on the day when another videography firm let us down and created a wonderful video for us.” - Demelza and Iain

We reveal what’s new in the wedding catering world
WHAT’S NEW?
Winners of the Trencherman’s Awards 2023 were recently revealed at a spectacular ceremony by the sea at the Salcombe Harbour Hotel. Broadcaster and food critic William Sitwell and Dorset’s TV chef and restaurateur Mark Hix joined Trencherman’s Guide editorial director Jo Rees to present this year’s awards –the most prestigious dining accolades in the South West that mark both the tenth year of the awards and the 30th edition of the Trencherman’s Guide.
More than 30,000 individual votes were cast in the second round of voting, with some of the closest final scores seen in the Awards’ ten-year history. Nathan Outlaw of Outlaw’s in Port Isaac, Ugly Butterfly by Adam Handling in Carbis Bay, and Boringdon Hall near Plymouth was honoured among the winners.
The finale saw Nathan Outlaw win the Award for Special Contribution. Nathan said, “I’ve been in the
South West for well over 25 years and the Trencherman’s Guide has always been at the forefront of the scene. It’s one of the guides you want to get into as a chef."
In traditional Trencherman’s style, several of last year’s award winners made up the team of top chefs who crafted the ceremony’s four-course feast: Mark Dodson of The Masons Arms (starter), Michael Smith of Porthminster Beach Cafe (fish), host chef Jamie Gulliford of Salcombe Harbour Hotel (main) and Dorian Janmaat of The Idle Rocks (dessert). The quality cooking was paired with fine wines from Hallgarten and Novum, Cornish beers from Sharp’s Brewery and soft drinks from Frobishers. Canapés were served with local spirits Trevethan Cornish Gin, Atlantic Spirit No.7 Sea Buckthorn Gin, and Sea Arch Coastal Juniper.

This incredibly active organisation, which is going from strength to strength, has now reached a record 350 members and has grown its team with a new membership development manager, Kate Rippin. It has further networking events, workshops and trade and consumer shows planned, in addition to its highly regarded awards which are currently open for entries.
Greg Parsons, chair of Food Drink Devon, says: “Devon is home to a flourishing food and drinks sector with more than its fair share of award-winning producers and hospitality businesses. Lush pasture, high moorland and miles of coast yield delicious meat and dairy, abundant seafood and Michelin stars, but Devon also has bright, new start-ups and exciting foodie entrepreneurs who merit a wider audience.”

The team at Sharpham Dairy located in the Dart Valley in South Devon offer a bespoke service which includes a trip to the dairy where they hand-make a selection of delicious varieties. The talented team suggest how a dramatic tower of cheese, a triple-layer cake or an overflowing cheeseboard all create a stunning centrepiece, but can be the foundation of the evening banquet too. Raise a non-alcoholic toast to summer weddings with Luscombe’s special-limited edition Rose & Cherry Bubbly. It’s a sparkling blend of organic rose and cherries, naturally sweetened with muscat grape and finished with Sicilian lemons and soft Devon spring water. Awarded a Royal Warrant in 2021, in recognition of their products which are enjoyed by the Royal Households, Luscombe took inspiration from the rose featured in the coronation emblem when crafting Rose & Cherry Bubbly.
Gently sparkling, the exquisite bubbly balances the sweet-tartness and burst of cherries beautifully with the delicate floral notes of the rose. The quintessential fizz is superbly served chilled on its own, or with a premium spirit and citrus garnish. Extremely versatile, it’s delightfully paired with an array of dishes including summer tarts, creamy soft cheeses and charcuterie as well as fruity desserts.
Like all the drinks in Luscombe’s range, it contains no artificial additives, sweeteners or concentrates and is gluten-free and vegan-friendly. Limitededition Rose & Cherry Bubbly joins Luscombe’s other bubblies in their portfolio including Strawberry Bubbly, Wild Elderflower Bubbly and Damascene Rose Bubbly. Rose & Cherry Bubbly can be purchased from www.luscombe.co.uk in single-serving bottles (12x27cl bottles, £26.50).
Luscombe’s range of organic soft drinks, fruit juices, crushes, bubblies, tonic waters and mixers plus a traditional organic Devon cider is the very essence of spring and summer. They have been producing beautifully crafted drinks on a farm in Devon since 1975 with founder and owner, Gabriel David, having become renowned for his pursuit of perfection and a no-compromise approach to creating an elegant and multi-award-winning range of drinks that use the very finest organic ingredients and Dartmoor spring water.
There’s also the new Rhubarb Crush now available, crafted to be enjoyed as a soft drink or mixer. Luscombe Rhubarb Crush is a lightly sparkling blend of organic Rhubarb, Madagascan vanilla and soft Devon spring water. It’s fresh and bright, with the tartness of the rhubarb tempered by the soft sweetness of vanilla. As well as organic rhubarb juice, the ingredients of this gently sparkling drink include organic blueberry juice, organic Madagascan vanilla extract and organic lemon oil. Its colour is subtle yet eye-catching, an enchanting soft pink. With a calorie count of fewer than 60 calories per bottle, it’s one for all to savour.
Exquisite in mocktails and cocktails and served well chilled, Luscombe Rhubarb Crush is a delightful alternative to champagne or prosecco and a beautiful accompaniment with food. When drink pairing with a meal, the general rule is to choose the fruit ingredient that partners best with what you’re eating. On this principle, refreshing Luscombe Rhubarb Crush is delicious as an accompaniment to rich-tasting foods such as pork, duck and oily fish as well as spicy cuisines, such as Asian.
Luscombe is proud to be the first drinks brand to have gained organic accreditation from the Soil Association and, like all of the drinks in the range, Rhubarb Crush contains no artificial additives, sweeteners or concentrates. Luscombe Rhubarb Crush is available in a box of 12 x 27cl glass bottles, for £26.50 from www.luscombe.co.uk; www.facebook.com/LuscombeDrinks; www.instagram.com/luscombedrinks

Our experts offer big-day advice
LITTLE LOVELIES
Meet the expert: Adele Stevens is the owner of The Sensory Area, providing playful activities for all ages.
Are we expected to invite children to our wedding when we don’t have any of our own?
Adele says: One of the biggest decisions when you start planning your wedding will be deciding whether to have children attend or not. This can be a tough decision, but you should consider what’s best for you and what’s right for your day - there are many factors to consider. The most obvious and definitive reason why children wouldn’t attend is if the venue you have your heart set on specifically prohibits children. Furthermore, a destination wedding abroad, for example, can offer logistical difficulties for guests to have their children travel with them. However, if it simply comes down to your own choice as to whether they come or not then think carefully about their needs throughout the day because adult-focused events such as weddings can be long and tiring for children, increasing the potential for disruption to your celebration. If you decide not to invite children then you need to send out clear adult–only invites. This will give these guests time to make arrangements but be aware this could lead to upset and some might not even be able to
Did you know that award-winning British children’s wear brand ROARSOME is launching its first-ever ROARSOME Summit? Inspired by research that revealed that children who play outdoors are more likely to want to cherish and protect nature when they become adults, the summit centres on the benefits of exploration and spending time outdoors. The Summit brings to life the brand’s mission, by curating opportunities for children and their parents to explore and become more curious about the world around them.
Continuing the brand’s mission to help families enjoy great outdoor adventures, whatever the weather, the event will gather families together in Polzeath, Cornwall from 19-21 May 2023, for three days of unforgettable coastal adventures, the perfect way to entertain the little ones if you’ve booked a mini-moon in the region.
The ultimate celebration of the great outdoors will be hosted by ROARSOME’s founders, Ed Lewis-Pratt and Will Chapman. The duo have personally curated every aspect of the event to help families reconnect with one another, and the magic of the great outdoors.
Will Chapman, co-founder of ROARSOME said: “We’ve been dreaming of a ROARSOME Summit for a long time. It’s more than just an event. It’s the ultimate weekend of family adventure and plays. A
make it. Communication and consistency are key.
The upsides to having children at your wedding are that they will create a huge amount of laughter and fun, they will add fabulous photos to your album, and it could mean potentially more of your guests will be able to attend avoiding awkward questions from people in the run-up and possibly during your big day!
The number of children and their ages is something that needs to be planned carefully. So what can you do to make sure your little guests have as much fun as the adults? In short, well-planned entertainment for them is key. This way there’s a healthy outlet for their attention and energy. Take a look at the list below to see what entertainment you could look up in your area:
•A magician or face painting
•A bouncy castle
•Soft play packages
•Creative tables
•Outdoor games
•Toy hire
•Activity packs

chance to disconnect from digital screens to build a lifelong love for the great outdoors.”
Ed Lewis-Pratt, co-founder of ROARSOME comments: “We’re excited to be launching our first ROARSOME Summit. The event is very much rooted in the insight that by helping families enjoy great outdoor adventures, we can inspire a love of nature and empower the next generation to care and do more to protect the planet, so we can keep the outdoors great.”

PiQi has launched the first range of soaps made with fermented kefir water. These luxurious soaps are 100% natural, vegan and palm oil-free.
Having launched their award-winning PiQi brand of water kefir in 2021,which is a raw fermented, probiotic beverage traditionally consumed for its health benefits, founders Aksana Fitzpatrick and Nick Young wanted to expand the benefits of fermentation into skincare.
PiQi’s soaps are based on nourishing olive oil and water kefir. The fermented probiotic water kefir naturally contains organic acids including gluconic and lactic acids which act as gentle exfoliants helping remove dead skin cells and stimulate cell renewal, leaving skin feeling hydrated, smooth and refreshed. They are gentle, creamy and moisturising, perfect for all skin types, as well as being suitable for both face and body.
Many people associate kefir with dairy products, but water kefir provides a sustainable vegan alternative which, combined with the fact that PiQi’s kefir soaps are palm oil-free and hand-crafted in Devon, means that they are also a sustainable, planet-friendly option.
Co-founder Aksana said: “We are so excited to be expanding our range into skincare. Water kefir is such a wonderful, healthy and versatile product, we’re loving that the benefits of fermentation can now be felt and seen on the outside, as well as being so good for you on the inside.”
The water kefir hand-cut and handmade soaps, priced at £8.50 for 110g, are now available with scents including lavender and lemongrass, a refreshing and uplifting addition to a daily skincare routine. Made with fig-infused fermented water kefir, this soap is gentle on the skin and perfect for all skin types. The combination of soothing lavender and invigorating lemongrass essential oils creates a pleasant and aromatic experience, leaving skin feeling rejuvenated and revitalised, perfect for brides-to-be.
The orange and spice scent is an irresistible blend of zesty orange and warm cinnamon. It’s a luxurious vegan kefir soap crafted with fig-infused fermented water kefir and is rich in organic acids and nourishing vitamins and minerals. The zesty and refreshing scent of orange essential oil is perfectly balanced by the warm and spicy notes of cinnamon, creating a delightful and uplifting aroma.
There’s also charcoal and tea tree, green clay plus an unscented soap in the selection, a creamy luxurious experience. This soap was created for those who prefer fragrance-free products, this gentle nourishing kefir soap is also ideal for those with particularly sensitive skin.

A LOVE LETTER TO YOUR SKIN
I recently attended a masterclass with Super Facialist’s resident skincare expert, Charlotte Connoley, which posed the question: do we really know our skin type? If like me your answer is somewhat hesitant, it may interest you to know that there’s an easy way to find out. Charlotte suggests simply splashing your face with water and leaving it for 20-25 minutes. If it feels prickly afterwards, you have sensitive skin; if the water’s gone, then it’s dry; if the skin is tight, it’s dehydrated; and if it feels perfectly comfortable you’re blessed with a normal skin type. Whatever you discover, Super Facialist has a range of products specifically tailored to each type, recognising this can change throughout the year. This allows you to affordably create your own individual skincare routine to support your skin throughout the seasons.
Having learned that my skin is dehydrated, I tried the divine Rosehip Hydrate Calming Creamy Cleanser (£9, www.lookfantastic.com) and my annoying dry patches have been banished!

SKIN DEEP
Beauty editor Kelly Andrews caught up with Angela Langford whose eponymous brand offers a wide range of skincare designed to make you feel great
The idea for Angela Langford as a brand started when Angela was working in a stressful, pressured, corporate job in Gibraltar, from which she was eventually made redundant. She knew she wasn’t meant for that world any longer, and set out to create her own business based on her passions. “I was travelling less, which meant I couldn’t easily get my favourite skincare from the UK anymore,” Angela says. “So, I started making my own products for personal use, with no intention of turning it into a career.” But, having discovered a love for the whole process, she did a lot of research and eventually decided to turn her new-found passion into a business, sharing her products with others. She went on to study cosmetic formulation in depth, which in turn opened up a completely new world for her.
Beauty editor Kelly Andrews chatted to Angela recently to find out more about the brand and its products, as well as how they can help you feel skin confident for your wedding day, complete with that gorgeous bridal glow.
possible I use glass jars and bottles, but this isn’t always compatible with the product. If a container is plastic, I use post-consumer recycled packaging. This is an area I work hard to constantly improve on, and over the years, I’ve made a great deal of progress.
Using high quality, concentrated products can help too, because you don’t need to purchase so often. Keeping your routine simple and using up what you do buy can also help.
What are your favourite skincare ingredients that you recommend we look out for?
This is a bit like being asked who your favourite child is, or in my case, favourite pet! It’s a tough one to answer, but I think oils rich in skin-loving omegas and essential fatty acids are vital for our skin’s health. Rosehip, chia seed, argan, and evening primrose are in a lot of my products and I always try to source organic versions.
I’m a huge fan of active plant ingredients too. My current favourites are electric daisy and sea buckthorn. The former has been referred to as nature’s botox and can help to smooth, firm and tighten our skin; whereas sea buckthorn is like a superfood for it. It has so many amazing benefits –it’s calming, soothing, repairing and can help with cell regeneration. Rich in vitamin C and anti-oxidants, it’s a skincare powerhouse, which is why I use it in my best-selling face oil, Bloom & Glow.
People are becoming more conscious of what’s in their skincare products as well as how its produced. How can we ensure our beauty products are as harmless to the environment as they are good for our skin?
I’m a very small-scale producer and I make everything myself in small batches. This means, there’s very little wastage and the products aren’t stored for months on end in a warehouse. I also use organic ingredients wherever available as these are also better for the environment.
We’re primarily an online brand, so I don’t use any outer packaging, and this small change can help to make a positive difference. Where
What would you recommend as the best approach for a bride or groom concerned about sensitive skin in the run up to the big day? Don’t introduce a new product to your skincare routine too close to your big day. Also, avoid any treatments or introducing new make-up. If you have regular facials, that’s fine, but going for something different a week beforehand may upset your skin. If you’re having your make-up applied by a professional, make sure you discuss this with them during your trial and ask to use your own make-up products if you’re worried.
Can you suggest a skincare regime that will ensure skin is in tip-top condition, providing the perfect base for a W-day make-up artist? Cleanse every morning and evening. A double cleanse with a balm or

oil in the evening is great too. The first will remove the make-up and SPF, the second is to cleanse the skin. Unless you’re very sensitive or have rosacea, I’d recommend using an exfoliator twice a week too in the evening after cleansing. Look for something with fruit acids (AHAs), which help to slough away dead, dull skin.
A once-a-week brightening face mask will really help to liven up your complexion and even out skintone. As long as you introduce them a few months in advance of your wedding, a mask the night before is wonderful. It will help to soften and smooth your skin ready for flawless make-up application and it’ll help you to relax too. Also, be sure to moisturise daily, keep skin hydrated with a tonic, and by drinking plenty of water.
Finally, if there’s one thing I think can make an enormous difference, it’s using a face oil. Even if your skin is oily, it can really help and there’s one out there for everyone. Brightening and balancing versions are wonderful, and you can use a drop after your make-up has been applied for extra luminosity.
What would you suggest to those worried about congested or oily skin and the effect this will have on their overall make-up look?
I always come back to cleansing as the key to great skin, yet it’s often the step people either skip entirely or skimp on. Cleansing wipes are a real no-no for me, they just move dirt around your skin and don’t cleanse properly. They aren’t great for the environment either, so I’d really avoid these.
The other important thing, particularly when you have oily skin, is to choose balancing products. Often, those aimed at this particular skin type are harsh and strip skin of its natural oils. This doesn’t solve the problem though, in fact it has the opposite effect, making your skin panic into producing even more oil.
It may surprise you to know that oil isn’t the enemy, being oil-free can be though. I even advise people with oily skin to use a facial oil in the evening. It can take time to get used to, and might take longer to even consider, as it does sound counter-intuitive! The key is to use the right
ones – light, easily absorbed and balancing are what you need. Look for ingredients including rosehip, kiwi, thistle (also known as safflower) and jojoba, all great for oily, congested and combination skin. Massage a couple of drops into clean skin every night. Plus, if you aren’t sensitive to them, essential oils can also help to clear congested skin. Look out for palamarosa, cypress, bergamot, lemon, lemongrass and rose geranium.
When is the best time to make changes/improvements to a skincare regime in preparation for a wedding?
It can take time for our skin to adjust to new products and new ingredients. When you try something new, it’s not unusual for your skin to become dry or for you to experience a little redness or even breakouts. This is just our skin adjusting. It does depend on the individual and also what products your skin is used to, but to be safe, I’d give yourself at least two months to introduce changes and new products. This also leaves time for you to see the results.
What products couldn’t you live without?
I use either Clean Sweep Cleansing Balm, and I Can See Clearly Now Make-up Remover. I then follow with a second cleanse using Sweet Cheeks Non-Foaming Face Wash. I exfoliate a few times a week using Scrub Up Exfoliator and use Look on the Bright Side Face Mask once a week – mixing it with some Freshen Up and a few drops of Bloom & Glow. In the day I’m never far away from a bottle of Freshen Up Hydrating Skin Tonic – I love to use it when my skin needs a hydrating boost. Most of the time I use A Little Lift Serum followed by Bloom & Glow face oil in the day and at night Bloom & Glow or Repair & Renew face oil on its own – I just love face oils and the benefits they have on our skin.

INTERVIEW 79
WhenI met with celebrity hairstylist and OGX ambassador, Michael Douglas to mark the launch of OGX’s new Colour Retention range, I can say with confidence that I was definitely having colour retention problems. I’d recently taken the plunge with my dream pastel violet hair colour, but my beloved shade was quickly running away from me. Michael very kindly offered to top my colour up, and while he mixed together a stunning new violet for me, I asked him about OGX’s new range. “All of the brand’s products are PH-balanced with sulphate-free surfactants, which don’t bind to anything you don’t want them to meaning they’re all very gentle on colour,” he told me.
I’m sure we can all agree that there’s not much better than that fresh-from-the-salon feeling, which is why OGX created the new collection, to extend salon or at home colour for up to four weeks. The new products also contain a colour bond plex technology, which helps to protect and strengthen strands for healthylooking, vibrant hair.
With the gorgeous colour applied, Michael began to style my short crop and I was curious whether he had any advice for brides-to-be thinking about colouring their locks pre-

wedding. He said, “It’s so high risk isn’t it? Do not do anything experimental, that’s the main thing! A lot of people seem to want to look like someone else on their wedding day, but I always think it’s better to look like the best, sexiest version of you – make you look great that day!
“Unless you wear your hair up a lot though, I never think it’s such a good idea. Remember, photos are forever. My favourite look was when Jennifer Aniston married Brad Pitt. She had great hair, everyone knew her for her that. So, actually she just had it down with some little diamonds sewn into it on a thin thread, which pinned it really nicely. I’ve tried the technique myself with a thin fishing wire woven through the hair before a blow dry and it just supports the style beautifully.”
Michael continued, “I also like the idea of doing something for the day and changing it up for the evening.” I was totally on board with this, having noticed an increasing trend in brides pulling off an outfit switch-up between the ‘I dos’ and celebrations. Michael suggested: “There‘s something nice about having the hair scraped back for the morning and then something a wavy in the evening or vice versa.”
By now, I was delighted with my own hair and wanted to know more about achieving the same look at home. After all, we can’t all have a celebrity hair stylist on call! He said, “A lot of people want frizz-free shiny hair and ask me on Instagram what shampoo and conditioner they need to buy, but it’s actually down to styling technique. Use a decent bristle brush with a metal barrel, hold the dryer at a particular angle for a long time, about four seconds longer than you think you need to, and keep the brush moving. So, how did you come to work with OGX as it’s brand ambassador? I asked. “During lockdown when all the hairdressers shut down, I decided to go on social media and talk about the best consumer products to use at home. I was getting around 4,000 people a day watching the lives, so a lot of brands got in touch asking me to talk about their products and OGX offered to send me some of its range. When I realised that most of my audience aren’t going to be spending £20 on a bottle of shampoo, yet were the very people asking for help, I agreed to try them. When I saw the huge range of products all PH balanced and with sulphate-free surfactants, at £6.99-£7.99 a bottle, it peaked my interest. I was able to send hundreds of OGX goodies out to my followers, and you wouldn’t believe the amount of people who came back to me saying how much they loved them. We shot 45 one-minute videos for OGX looking at common hair problems with the products to solve them. It’s a great match!”
I left the studio with a spring in my step confirming that indeed, it is difficult to beat the feeling of a fresh new do!

KEEP CALM AND MARRY ON
Professional nutritionists from Wedding Wellness share their stress-beating tips
Feeling the pressure to get everything right and done on time is inevitable when it comes to wedding planning. With a seemingly endless todo list and preparing to expect the unexpected, the sense of overwhelm can quickly take over. This, in turn, results in its own issues such as impaired sleep, digestive issues, skin breakouts, low mood and anxiety. While it isn’t helpful to tell someone planning their big day to simply not stress, thinking about ways to support a stressed body and maintain overall good health, can help prevent some of these unwanted symptoms and make the whole process more manageable.
Read on to discover five ways to support yourself against stress in the run up to your wedding day, courtesy of Minal Sudra and Elizabeth Andrews at Wedding Wellness...
PRIORITISE SLEEP
One of the most underrated activities when it comes to your health is a good night’s sleep. Quality sleep isn’t purely about how many hours of shut-eye you get, but also about being mindful of eating and lifestyle habits, and how they can affect rest. When we consistently sleep well, our brains and bodies are more resilient, making us better at healing, fighting infection, concentrating and making decisions.
Avoid alcohol and caffeine in the run up to bed time, as both disrupt the brain’s natural restorative activity and block deep sleep, which is key to optimal health.
MAKE TIME FOR MOVEMENT
Exercise is great for physical health but
movement is just as important for our mental health, and ability to handle stress. Our bodies react to stress in the same way they might if encountering a bear in the wilderness! Allowing them the chance to move and release the build up of tension that comes from being in a stressful state, helps them to calm down and return to a state of normal. Movement in any shape or form also encourages deep or mindful breathing, which is another brilliant way of reducing stress and calming the mind and body. Aim for at least 20-30 minutes of your movement of choice per day.
EAT FOODS THAT HELP TO LOWER INFLAMMATION
The reason stress is so harmful is that it causes damage to the body known as oxidative stress. This can result in aches and pains, slow healing and a higher chance of catching a cold. Eating foods that help reduce this damage, are commonly referred to as antiinflammatory, as they promote healing and calm the stress response, aiding everything from gut and hormonal health to improving mood. Some of the best anti-inflammatory foods to include in your meals are: berries, ginger, garlic, dark green leafy vegetables, oily fish, nuts and seeds, avocado and wholegrains.
TAKE REGULAR BREAKS
When you have an endless to-do list, it’s easy to assume every spare moment should be used to work through as much of it as possible. Taking
proper breaks and using that time to actually relax, will calm your otherwise overworked nervous system and help your body return to a rested state. Use those moments to distract yourself with something calming, such as music, conversation or a proper lunch break away from a screen. Not only will this help reduce how stressed you feel, you will digest meals better and feel less fatigued too.
EAT REGULAR, WHOLESOME MEALS
It might sound obvious, but one of the best things you can do for your health is to eat wholesome, balanced meals at a regular time each day. The body loves habit and thrives on routine, so regular meals will help nourish and support a stressed body. Making sure you’re eating foods that include complex carbs will help you maintain energy, support normal body function and improve general health. Look for wholegrains and vegetables; protein like fish, chicken, beans and pulses; and healthy fats such as oily fish, nuts, seeds, avocado and olive oil.

The experts at WatchPilot advise on how to choose the perfect watch for your big day
Awatch should complement a groom’s suit, however it should also be a timepiece that they will want to wear for years to come. Co-founder of WatchPilot.com, Tim Harrison, has shared with County Wedding Magazines’ grooms’ editor, Melissa Cullen, his expert advice on buying and investing in a timepiece for your big day...
What type of watches are available for grooms-to-be?
The most common watches are quartz, which offer accurate timing with minimal maintenance. Quartz watches also have the most affordable watch movements.
Then there are automatic watches which selfwind using kinetic energy. These store energy by using the movement of your wrist but are typically more expensive than quartz options.
Mechanical watches function via an intricate series of tiny components working together to power the watch. These never need batteries because they require hand-winding to operate. They are super reliable and often very attractive to look at but they do come with a higher price tag than other timepieces.
The final type is the solar watch, which has the ability to convert light energy into electrical energy; they do not require battery replacements and feature a quartz crystal movement for accurate timekeeping.
What are the latest watch trends?
Watches mean so much more than just telling the time; they represent every second of our lives. Some of the most recent style trends include vintage watches with nostalgic elements such as thin cases, minimalistic dials and those with beautiful heritage.
Smart watches are continuing to be a big
trend as people are increasingly investing more in their health and wellbeing, and these timepieces are the best for staying in tune with your body while you meet your fitness goals.
There has also been a huge increase in using bold colours in both jewellery and watches. Blue, green and other pastel colours have been particularly utilised by many brands, producing a variety of new lines and limitededition pieces.
How can grooms-to-be add a personal touch to their wristwear?
A wedding is a great opportunity to add a sentimental item or two to your wardrobe. Potentially borrow a watch from a family member or someone very close to you. If you are wearing a new watch, consider having it engraved to provide a memory of your special day – this could be a date, initials or a quote.
Appearance is one of the largest factors for grooms when choosing what to wear on their big day, with this in mind, what are your tips for grooms-to-be when selecting a watch to complement their suit?
The most common watch worn with a suit is the dress watch. Consider a simple design with no flourishes. A plain black leather strap and simple dial is understated and refined.
When gifting a watch to a groom, what details should be considered?
Opt for a classic and elegant design. Much like an engagement ring, the watch should stand out, however not be too extravagant. Consider taste and style preferences for example, if he’s sporty look for a classic chronograph.
If you know what colour metal the groom prefers to wear as part of his wardrobe i.e. on belt buckles or cufflinks, then this could be a hint for the colour of watch they may like.
Lastly stay within your budget! Don’t forget that weddings can cost quite a bit of money, so set yourself a price limit and work within it.
How do you suggest cleaning and maintaining a watch?
Whether you wear it every day or just for special occasions, it’s important to make time to give your watch a bit of TLC with a regular clean. This not only keeps it looking good, but it’s also essential for making sure it works well,
keeps time effectively over a long period as well as for general hygiene.
How often you should clean your watch varies. If you wear your watch every day, then a thorough clean, once a month, should keep it free of dirt and grime. If you’re more of an occasional wearer, then a six-monthly deep clean is recommended.
The first step is to take a look at the manual that came with your watch. This should give you a good idea of what you can and can’t do during the cleaning process. Next, you’ll need the proper equipment. A few essential items that will help you give your watch a thorough clean include a microfibre cloth, cleaning fluid, brushes, a watch strap remover tool and a Cape Cod polishing cloth.
If your watch strap is made from leather, fabric or silicone, you’ll need to remove it before you can start cleaning. You’ll also need to push or screw in all the crowns (the winders) and buttons to prevent water or moisture from damaging the internal workings of your watch.
There are some parts of your watch, like the crown and buttons, that might be too small to effectively clean with your cloth, and this is where your cleaning brushes come in. They’re perfect for getting into all the nooks and crannies, including the crown, buttons and inside the lugs. Always spray the cleaning fluid onto the tip of each brush, not the watch itself, and use a dry part of your microfibre cloth to remove any excess.
Now it’s time to buff or polish your watch using your Cape Cod polishing cloth. Not only will this remove any streaks and brighten up the surface of your watch, but it’s also a great way to buff out any fine scratches or blemishes.

HONEYMOON NEWS 87
HAMPSHIRE! Hooray for
the New Forest to find out what makes it such a special spot for mini-mooners
I’ma huge advocate for mini-mooning in the UK (obviously), and since the dark days of lockdown it’s increasingly become the thing to do –short trip post W-day here in Blighty followed by an overseas vacay later on if you’re so inclined. I’m here to tell you that for the former you’ll struggle to find better than the glorious New Forest. I recently visited two incredible hotels in Hampshire, each one perfect for newlyweds in their own way.
GREAT EXPECTATIONS
After a picturesque drive through the New Forest spent pony spotting, we pulled up at Grade II listed hotel The Montagu Arms, tucked away in a quiet corner of Beaulieu, our first port of call on this trip. Incidentally, thanks to the rain I never did see a pony! The ample car park is located behind the hotel, so our introduction to the place was via the absolutely delightful grounds, reminiscent of the eponymous childhood story, The Secret Garden. Scattered with water features, beautifully tended flower beds, lawns and cobbled paths wending their way to the entrance, I only wished the weather had been kind enough to let us enjoy them more.
AN IDYLLIC RETREAT
Boasting 22 bedrooms and suites in the main house, with 33 in total within the hotel, each has it’s own unique design and layout, featuring the ultimate combination of comfort and sophistication. Decorated in a chic and charming country-house style, the soft tones and textures used to create a peaceful space were right up my street.
Our home away from home for the night was one of the property’s stunning Courtyard Retreats hidden amongst the aforementioned gardens and converted from the house’s original 1920s chauffeur’s garages. I don’t know what I was expecting, but to call Hazel a “room” would be doing it a gross disservice. With the look of a space taken straight from the pages of Home & Garden magazine, its vast glass façade looked out over the central courtyard allowing the best of the outside in, and
the team have left no stone unturned when it comes to providing all the comforts you could wish for. This even extends to the smallest of details such as the mini torch attached to the retreat’s keyring, to help you find your way safely through the gardens to the hotel at dinner time, or stagger back after a hearty meal and perhaps a wine flight.
Let’s talk about the bathroom! Possibly on a par with the footprint of my entire house, it boasted a roll top bath, twin sinks, walk-in shower, bidet, and the necessary, of course. You’re never going to step on each other’s toes getting ready here, and the SenSpa toiletries were a real treat, as well as a hint of what awaited on day two.
I can’t recommend this spot highly enough to newlyweds. It’s the perfect retreat for a secluded, romantic, relaxing break.
TIME TO DINE
It was time to see if dinner in The Terrace, the hotel’s awardwinning restaurant, was equal to the benchmark laid down by our accommodation. Marketing hails it as offering an unparalleled finedining experience, and I can’t argue with that. Led by executive chef, Dan Burrell, the menus here champion seasonality and fresh, hyper-local Hampshire ingredients, including produce from the hotel’s own bountiful organic kitchen garden.
Looking at the menu it was a difficult choice, but ultimately I opted for the 42-day aged beef tartare with horseradish and onion purée to start; followed by Cornish red mullet with champagne sauce, artichoke, mussels, and pink fir potatoes. I finished my meal with a delicious selection of local cheese and biscuits. Every mouthful of the entire meal was an explosion of flavour and culinary discovery, while the knowledgeable and charming sommelier, Paulo, selected the perfect English wine to go with it – a Kentish Chapel Down Bacchus, plus a cheeky taste of Norfolk’s Winbirri Bacchus. No evening would be complete without a nightcap, so we headed to the tranquil lounge for a Brandy Alexander, which I’ve since decided is my new favourite cocktail!

ON THE ROAD AGAIN
Incredibly sad to leave the hotel and it’s charming, friendly and helpful team, we set off after a hearty breakfast and hit the road again. Our destination was a mere six miles away in beautiful Brockenhurst: Carey’s Manor Hotel, The Montagu’s sister establishment. Although downhearted to see the latter in my rear-view mirror, it didn’t take me long to turn my thoughts to the planned day ahead spent in SenSpa at my next destination – the excitement was back!
It’s worth pointing out at this juncture that residents of The Montagu Arms can enjoy complimentary access to SenSpa, including it’s indoor pool, Jacuzzi, steam room, sauna and gym, with treatments and access to the hydrotherapy pool available at an additional cost. The kind folk there even offer free transfers. The choice of where you decide to rest your head is, purely down to your personal style. Where The Montagu Arms is intimate, boutique, tranquil, and secluded; Carey’s Manor offers 18th-century grandeur, vibrancy and a myriad of spaces to enjoy from the aforementioned spa, to its three restaurants, including modern British brasserie Cambium, traditional French bistro Le Blaireau, and authentic Thai restaurant Zen Garden.
PERFECTLY PAMPERED
On arrival, I wasted no time whatsoever in heading straight to the awardwinning SenSpa. A world-class Thai spa focusing on holistic wellness, inspired by ancient Eastern rituals, it was unlike any I’d been to before, so I was interested to see what the experience would have in store. We’d been treated to Hydrotherapy Pool access, and I was like a kid in a sweetshop. But where to begin? Across two floors, this state-of-the-art facility features the pool itself, crystal steam room, ice room, experience showers, herbal sauna and so much more. Adding this to your visit is something I would most definitely encourage as it’s not to be missed. My treatment was booked for the afternoon – a relaxing, full-body Thai massage using SenSpa’s very own natural products, which lifted me away on a cloud of aroma and ultimate relaxation. My therapist was incredible and really listened to me when I talked to her about problem areas and the amount of pressure I’d like. I headed back to the pool with a spring in my step, feeling revitalised and light as a feather.
There’s a wide range of spa packages available, so there’s bound to be something to suit you both and help you unwind following the highs of W-day.
BON APPETIT
By the time I managed to tear myself away from the calming waters of
SenSpa, there was just enough time to pop back to our gorgeous suite to brush up for dinner. Mum and I were thrilled by its two bathrooms, meaning we could both get ready in double quick time without fighting for mirror or sink space! The hotel has 77 bedrooms and suites all designed with tranquillity in mind. Some Manor Rooms in the main house feature a four-poster bed – honeymoon romance goals. Meanwhile, The Garden Rooms are more contemporary, each with a balcony or patio overlooking the grounds. The newly-designed suites offer a luxurious escape with features such as a roof terrace, spacious living area and chic, marble bathroom.
Our table was booked in Le Blaireau, which promised a menu of regional French food. Given it’s location at the other side of this vast hotel, and the fact the rain still hadn’t let up, we were happy indeed to hear that we didn’t need to set foot outside and could cheerfully wend our way through the cosy corridors to reach the restaurant. As I pushed open an unassuming door at the end of a corridor, I let out a gasp of delight. Was this the Hampshire equivalent of The Lion, The Witch and The Wardrobe? It was as though I’d stepped into the cobbled streets of Paris with the iconic Art Nouveau Metro sign in front of me and shop fronts complete with awning to my right. Past a vintage Citroen DS, lies the main restaurant, every bit the classic French bistro of a bygone era. So... much... fun!
The menu here is humble and indulgent – fine by me – I was ravenous after such a tiring day in the spa! I dined on a soufflé au fromage, a tasty burger from the specials board and crème brulee, all washed down with a glass of French wine, before going to bed full, relaxed, completely content, and dreaming of those illusive New Forest ponies.

HONEYMOON REVIEW 89
OF LOVEThe city
Aftera speedy trip on the Eurostar and a leisurely stroll, we arrived at the Shangri-La Paris. With all that Paris has to offer, the actual accommodation you find yourself using can often feel like an afterthought. However, with the history and majesty of the Shangri-La Paris, the hotel is as much a tourist destination as the Louvre, Arc de Triomphe or even the Eiffel Tower. A former home of Prince Roland Bonaparte, overlooking the River Seine, the hotel is centrally located in the 16th arrondissement and seamlessly blends European grandeur with traditional Asian hospitality.
FIT FOR ROYALTY
Upon arrival, we were greeted by a welcoming member of the hotel concierge who checked in our bags while we were given a guided tour. The building is a stunning feat of architecture and the location alone is enough to take your breath away. The hotel has plenty of stand-out features (too many to mention), but the impressive marble-lined swimming pool converted from the former stables, the relaxing spa, state-of-the-art health club and stunning entrance hall are all must-sees.
If you want to relax with a drink in your hand, then you’ll feel right at home in the stunningly decorated Le Bar Botaniste or Les Lounges, both of which offer a friendly and impressive service.
SUITE DREAMS
Catching our breath for a moment, we were shown to our suite. In all honesty, the view of the Eiffel Tower a few hundred feet away, in plain sight of our room, made it very hard to focus on the suite itself for a good few minutes! But after wiping the stardust from our eyes, we discovered that we had been treated to a magnificent space. The biggest bed I’d ever seen, a walk-in wardrobe and a lavish bathroom greeted us; with every aspect of the room designed around that view. The attention to detail was beyond anything I could have imagined with every amenity you could possibly need at your fingertips.
One of my favourite aspects was the balcony, which showed the tower in all its splendour and views of the city at every turn. Sitting there with a cup of tea and homemade macarons was one of the highlights of the trip, and I opted to be out on the balcony every spare moment I had.
EAST MEETS WEST
There are two restaurants at Shangri-La Paris, both of which are beautifully decorated with stand-out food. Shang Palace, where I had the pleasure of dining, is France’s only Michelin-starred Chinese restaurant and what a treat it was! Inspired by Southeast China’s culinary traditions, the restaurant offers authentic Chinese cuisine by chef Samuel Lee.
With so much choice, we were a little lost for words, but thankfully the charming hostess was very helpful and suggested options that she felt we would enjoy.
Every dish was incredible and the food complemented the surroundings perfectly. We started with the chef’s special sashimi; immaculately prepared, it set the standard for what was to follow. The lobster dumplings were a particular favourite of mine and is something I’d eat every day if possible. After several dishes, it was safe to say I was stuffed, but when the dessert arrived, I couldn’t help myself; the rice balls with mixed fruits and whipped cream was delicious and one of the best desserts I’ve ever had. If you’re looking for a once-in-a-lifetime meal, then this is it. It’s been months since we visited, but we still talk about how delicious everything was.
TRUE ROMANCE
With such awe-inspiring surroundings, we couldn’t resist a short stroll over to the Trocadéro and across the Seine to the Eiffel Tower. As beautiful a sight at night as during the day, we couldn’t believe our fortune.
When we eventually headed back to the hotel, we wearily made our way up to our bedroom. The suite had an impressive TV, but it almost felt like a redundancy next to the view from the windows. I’m typically a blackout sleeper, but on this occasion, I had to sleep with the curtains wide open.
After a wonderful night’s sleep, we ordered breakfast to our room and enjoyed it out on our balcony terrace. Barely noticing the brisk February weather, we dined in what felt like the historic heart of Paris. Breakfast was up to the high standards we’d come to expect from the Shangri-La Paris, and when it came to checking out, we felt devastated to be leaving. I can say with absolute certainty that we left with our chi restored and look forward to returning in the near future!

Melissa Cullen reveals why Paris is the perfect honeymoon destination
90
For our second evening in Paris, we had the fortune of being hosted by the Hôtel Dame des Arts. Just a stone’s throw from Notre-Dame, it’s located in the Latin Quarte, which is considered the artistic heart of Paris. The hotel boasts terrace rooms looking out to the Eiffel Tower, a spacious and luxurious rooftop bar, and a charming secret garden courtyard – a gem in the centre of a bustling, metropolitan area.
Entering through a sleek, sliding door, we felt like we’d been invited into an ultra-secretive club. The hotel’s lobby, with its dark motif, stylish sofas and low lighting simultaneously blended Art Deco architecture with the feel of a futuristic nightclub. After checking in, we were shown up to our room, which continued the theme exhibited in the lobby. The architectural vision of the hotel is singular, drawing you completely into the world the owners have created.
SLEEK AND SOPHISTICATED
Our room was the natural extension of the hotel; with all the amenities any couple could desire. Every aspect had been well thought out and cleverly made use of the space available. A sliding, frosted-glass door separated the bedroom from the bathroom area, and the use of lighting and sleek, curved panelling made us feel like we were on the set of a high-budget movie. Our room even had a terrace looking out to the Eiffel Tower, bringing us back into the heart of Paris.
DRINK IT ALL IN
After dropping off our bags, we were given a guided tour of the hotel. The beautifully arranged restaurant and bar giving way through an impressive door to a stunning garden space. A mix of comfortable furniture and grounding flora, the tranquillity of the area makes you forget being mere feet away from the busy streets surrounding the hotel – a true feat. Our next stop was the hotel’s gym. The curved, wooden panelling enveloping the walls of the room is really a sight to behold. The final stop of our tour was the building’s rooftop terrace, and I assure you, our guide had saved the best for last. The terrace looks out in every direction across Paris, choosing a seating location is an almost impossible task!
Major sightseer locations such as the Eiffel Tower, Notre-Dame and the Panthéon are all visible from the terrace; with stunning pieces of Parisian history everywhere you look. I can imagine sitting at the bar on a summer’s evening watching the sun go down over one of the most beautiful cities in the world being a truly transformative experience.
FOOD, GLORIOUS FOOD
Once our tour had ended, we made our way down to the restaurant for dinner. Starting with a cocktail in hand, the space had a buzzing atmosphere and was full of people laughing and enjoying the splendour. My hubby and I ordered the corn ribs with magic mayo and cotija cheese as a starter and were impressed by the delicious taste and presentation. After examining the menu and struggling to choose just one dish for our main, we asked our friendly waiter for his recommendations. We chose to share the pork ribs in a Roja and Verde sauce, and when it arrived at our table, we were both incredibly excited for what was to come. Every part was wonderful, and although we were sure we wouldn’t be able to fit any dessert, when we saw the menu, we just had to try the chocolate ganache cake with coffee cream. I’m a big sweet person, so the dessert ticked all of my boxes, and I would happily eat it over and over again if I could!
A FOND FAREWELL
After a busy few days exploring the city, it’s safe to say we were in need of some sleep. As soon as my head hit the pillow, I drifted off and awoke never wanting to leave.
When we eventually motivated ourselves to go downstairs for breakfast, everything looked delicious and we couldn’t decide between the continental or cooked option or which of the vast array of drinks to go for. The food was delicious and when it came to checking out, we felt incredibly sad to be leaving and wished we could re-live the experience all over again. We’ll be heading back to Paris soon, and when we do, we’ll definitely be staying at both of these fabulous hotels again.

HONEYMOON REVIEW 91
Riverside romance
TheMitre Hampton Court could not be placed in a more romantic location; just a five-minute walk from Hampton Court Palace and nestled on the bank of the River Thames. So, when my other half and I whizzed down to the home county of Surrey for a night away around Valentine’s we had high expectations for our stay.
Before checking in, we busied ourselves in The Mute Swan, a pub conveniently placed next door, for a few hours. With the February sun shining down, much stronger than expected, we couldn’t have started our visit in higher spirits. It’s here I left Daniel, basking in the spring weather, while I headed to the Pamper Room, inside Mitre Hampton Court, to experience a life changing massage from the in-house masseuse, Alex.
The combination of soothing music, Alex’s expert touch and delightful spa products from Lola’s Apothecary (www.lolasapothecary.com) meant my hour of tranquillity flew by and I left feeling refreshed and renewed. Whilst my treatment was designed to instil calm and correct energy imbalances, there was a variety of other therapies to alleviate both mind and body. The Stimulating Treatment designed to eliminate toxins and encourage lymph drainage is perfect for those looking to reduce swelling and improve circulation in their bodies.
I found my partner, where I left him, feeling like a new woman, and we checked into our room for the night. The river-facing Royal Rooms are aptly named as they are indeed fit for royalty. Named individually after historic characters who have famously influenced our part of the world, they boast stunning décor, king-sized beds, complimentary toiletries and – the standout feature of any room – a huge free-standing bathtub. These suites truly are a welcoming space for mini-mooners where you can leave your worries at the door.
The interiors throughout this boutique hotel are certainly breathtaking. The old building has all the grandeur of an English country house, but the modern, inner-city inspired furnishings give the place a kitschy charm. The perfectly curated style looks as though it’s jumped straight out of your Pinterest board, and you’ll end your visit with a strong desire to redesign your living room!
After unloading our bags and freshening up – and admittedly indulging in the orange and ginger liqueur gifted to us in our room – we were more than ready for dinner. Our evening meal took place in the
Mitre’s 1665 Riverside Brasserie. With a centrepiece bar, wine room, and gorgeous al fresco terraces perfect for the warmer months, the restaurant is rich in atmosphere.
We were lucky enough to sample a delicious selection from both the seasonal menu and house specials. Starting with a local Berkshire venison tartare and the warming truffle and Jerusalem artichoke soup, this was a wonderful indication of the restaurant’s dedication to combining locally and worldly sourced delights.
Moving on to our mains we were thrilled with both the pan-fried salmon and beetroot risotto, the fish pairing wonderfully with the French Sancerre our waiter was kind enough to recommend us. But the real star of the show from the whole evening was the duck fat chips loaded with Wiltshire truffle hollandaise – seriously naughty and certainly calorific but they tasted so good it doesn’t even bare thinking about.
The wait staff throughout our entire meal were friendly, welcoming and reassuring – making all the difference to our experience. We ended the night toasting to our stay with two – equally delicious as they were splendid looking – espresso martinis.
After dinner, drifting off to the land of nod was easy, and we had a wonderful night’s sleep.
My other half and I both share a great love for breakfast foods and are known to spend all week searching for the best brunch spot for a Sunday morning, so our morning meal the following day was arguably one of the things we were most excited for. It’s no understatement to say we were certainly not disappointed. At the buffet you could find a huge selection of delicious pastries, cereals and fresh fruit that made your mouth water just from the sight of it. The barista-made coffee was the perfect pick-meup to start the day, especially whilst enjoying the famous river-side views.
New from The Mitre team this spring, is The Coppernose café. With more of the superb breakfast, brunch and lunch options in a relaxed environment, it’s perfect to pop in if you’re in the area.
If you’re planning a romantic night away to escape from the stress of wedding planning or looking for the perfect staycation destination for your mini-moon, The Mitre Hampton Court is undoubtedly the place for you. I couldn’t fault my stay and I know it won’t take any convincing at all to get my other half to consider a second trip there.
