Brief Overview: The aim of this one day brief is to introduce you to the Abstract Expressionism movement which happened in the USA from the mid 1940’s to the late 1950’s. The centre of this movement was New York and a good number of the artists were people that moved to the USA to escape the Nazi occupation of mainland Europe during the 2 nd World War. You will need to research Abstract Expressionism and in your journal say what it is about and say what you think of it. You will need to research 3 of the listed artists, find 2 examples of each of the artists work. Print images out in colour, about half A4 in size, no smaller as you will need to see them well. These must be supported by dates and titles. You will then choose one of your images and produce a study of it and evaluate the process. As this is just a one day brief you can explore the movement further in your own time and then submit extra work at your next assessment.
Tasks.
Week 1: Introduction to the Movement in Class. Use the Library/Laptops to research Abstract Expressionism and the artists associated with the movement.
