Objectives for this brief

Explain how organisations operate in the Art & Design Industry. Explain the characteristics of job roles within the Art & Design Industry. Please notice the emphasis on the word ‘Explain’. Brief Overview: Research 1 organisation within Art & Design that really interests you. These may be linked to specialist areas that you are interested in. You will need to include the following: What is the purpose of the organisation? What areas are there within the organisation? What job roles are there within the organisation? How do the individual jobs relate to each other within the organisation? Research individually without using Wikipedia – use websites of organisations for accurate information. Reach your own conclusions about the organisations.

Your work will take the form of a Word document all printed out with colour images, presented in a ring binder with all of your research notes / print outs. There is no word limit. Week 1: Research one organisation within the Art & Design Industry that interest you making notes in journal. (P1). What is the purpose is of the organisation? (P1,M1&D1) What areas are there within the organisation – what different things do they do? (P1,P2,M1,M2,D1,D2) What job roles are there within the organisation? i:e – junior designer, art director, typographer, photographers assistant. What is the pay like? (P2,M2,D2) How does one job relate to another within the Organisation? (P1,P2, P3,M1, M2, D1,D2) Print out any research information and keep this in a file. If you want to know more about an organisation maybe you could email them for more information, say what course you are on, arrange a visit to see them in your free study time. Week 2: Complete your research of an organisation. (P1,P2,P3,M1,M2,D1,D2) Having gathered lots of research you will now be able to start typing up your case study using Microsoft Word. This must be in your own words based on information gathered. Please do not copy and paste from existing documents. Week 3: Writing your case study. Week 4: Complete writing your case study concluding what it is that you now know and have learnt about the companies. (P3,M1,M2,D1,D2) Discussion of your findings as a group. (P3, M1,M2) Complete your case study and hand it in clearly labelled with your name. Please also email me a digital version. Resource Requirements: Laptops, Library for books and IT access, journals for note taking, Memory sticks to save all work as word document. Folder to keep all research and final written document in. Health and Safety: You will need to use your understanding of health and safety to maintain a safe and secure environment and act responsibly yourselves and with others in your team as well as the other groups and lecturers.
