CHERRIES

Tis’ the season of the Cherry. Cherries just scream, “Christmas is coming.” There’s nothing better than a handful of plump, ruby red cherries on a Chrissie cheeseboard or a Summer cheesecake dessert. But you’d better be quick! The cherry season lasts for only around 100 days. So get down to the Growers or these juicy morsels before they’re all gone.
EGGPLANT
Love them or hate them, Eggplants, or Aubergines, are an excellent source of dietary fi bre. A great meat alternative, slice your eggplant evenly, drizzle with Extra Virgin Oil and freshly cracked pepper and salt and grill on the barbeque. Chargrill till tender on the inside, crispy on the edges. Lovely on its own, or, as part of a grilled vegetable platter. PAPAYA
Understated, the Payaya is a fabulous fruit to add to any breakfast, lunch, dinner or dessert. Dice it up to create a Papaya and Black Bean Salsa. Blend with strawberries and bananas to make a tropical smoothie. Create an amazing salad with Chicken, Avocado, Quinoa, Feta Cheese and a zesty lime dressing. For something sweet, bake a mind-boosting Papaya and lime cake served with semi-sweet greek yoghurt. MANGOES
Mangoes are an icon, an Aussie icon. Who doesn’t love a deliciously sweet mango? When it comes to choosing, don’t be fooled by the colour. Red or pink in colour is not an indicator of ripeness. Squeeze the mango gently. A ripe mango will give slightly. Whether it’s a Kensington Pride, Calypso® or R2E2, they’re all rich in juicey fl avour and can be added to any salad, breakfast bowl or just eaten on their own.
TOMATOES
LETTUCE
Iceberg, Cos, Hydro, Butterhead, Looseleaf, Radicchio, Mignonette - there’s an array of lettuces available to add to your fresh Summer salads. A great source of Vitamin K which helps strengthen bones, lettuce is just the perfect salad staple. But you don’t need to stop there. Create San Choy Bow with fl avoursome pork, sliced onion and carrot basil and mint. Or a simple garden salad with cherry tomatoes and a Summer vinaigrette. Sweet tasting, there’s so much you can add a tomato to. Bruschetta, for one, is a great Summer starter with oven caramelised cherry tomatoes. How about a classic savoury French tarte tatin with tomatoes, red onion, and dried herbs. And you can’t go past a tantalising Bloody Mary with a dash of Worcestershire sauce and pepper. The choices are fun and endless.
