Dubai Police and Avaya co-produce smart eGov services

Dubai Police and Avaya have joined forces to launch Dubai Police smart services on Avaya’s

SmartConnect solutions at GITEX Technology Week 2014.

Dubai Police is the first public sector entity to run smart government services on Avaya SmartConnect solutions, which are designed to transform traditional call centre services to real-time smart customer engagement opportunities.

SmartConnect also aims to enable smarter document and identity card scanning, certificate printing, digital signature reading, and biometric security through a

web service designed to run on all user interfaces – mobiles, tablets and PCs. Those with remote access to a computing device will still be able to benefit from SmartConnect services via smart self-service stations to be introduced in public places soon. Also the first to introduce such stations, Dubai Police intends to equip the kiosks – similar to ATMs – with a videoconferencing functionality.

Riverbed turns spotlight on application performance Taj Elkhayat, Managing Director, META, Riverbed, is determined to streamline business processes.

Aruba displays wireless solutions at GITEX

Aruba Networks is demonstrating its portfolio of 802.11ac wireless solutions at GITEX Technology Week from 12th16th October, 2014.

It is presenting its WLAN Access Points (APs) and mobility controllers that are built for the 802.11ac standard and the wireless experience for 802.11n devices which connect to the network. It is also showcasing its ClearPass Access Management System.

The company is aiming to position itself as a ‘one-stop-shop’ for a variety of WLAN requirements. “Organisations have been forced to rethink their networks,” Ammar Enaya, General Manager, Aruba Networks Middle East, says. “The workplace of the future will need secure wireless infrastructure to attract #GenMobile talent and provide them with the tools they need for productivity and innovation.

Using ClearPass, businesses can dynamically profile devices as they connect to the network, which in turn helps fine-tune policies. The solution then aids policy management and automation, allowing granular control based on user roles, device types, ownership, and location.”

Elkhayat sees a great deal of benefit in participating in Gitex.

“We come to Gitex because it is a perfect venue to see what else is happening in the industry. As well, Gitex is the hub for potential customers, so we see a huge return on investment from being here.” Elkhayat also recognises that the growth of Gitex is an indicator for the health of the IT industry in the region. “As far as technology goes, of course we are paying attention to vitualisation, but I think the real trend to watch is vendors becoming closer and having more meaningful relationships with their customers.”

Fortinet to highlight threat defences Network security firm Fortinet is showcasing its latest Advanced Threat Protection (ATP) framework and Distributed Denial of Service (DDoS) Attack Mitigation Appliances at GITEX Technology Week 2014.

Fortinet offers a range of security solutions based on the FortiOS 5.2and FortiDDoS Attack Mitigation Appliances.

FortiDDoS is 100 percent based on behaviour-based detection and

ASIC DDoS processors.

SAP drives ‘Run Simply’ cloud strategy at GITEX SAP says it will “use the cloud to drive the region’s IT simplification and business transformation” at GITEX Technology Week 2014.

As investment pours into the GCC – and especially Dubai – in the roll-out of Dubai Smart City and the build-up to World Expo 2020, SAP, the cloud company powered
