Huawei unveils BYOD solution
With more organisations in the region seeking to leverage the use of personal mobile devices in the business environment, Huawei has unveiled AnyOffice BYOD, a signature bring-yourown-device (BYOD) solution for the Middle East region that empowers companies to improve office collaboration and increase efficiency by enabling employees to securely access corporate assets on their personal mobile devices. By leveraging its expertise and full series of products in the security, networking, and collaboration fields, Huawei’s AnyOffice solution offers governments and enterprise customers a single platform through which to access a wide range of applications and handle important business tasks anytime, anywhere, and from any smart device. This “office of the future” was previewed at a session hosted by Huawei alongside representatives from IDC, Hassan Sandila, Senior Analyst, select customers and partners during

Huawei ... merging business and technology needs while bringing network security, efficiency and a great user-experience to the BYOD challenge. Huawei’s AnyOffice supports the office of the future by providing a simple platform that can help companies cope with the complexities of mobilisation.” The benefits of Huawei’s AnyOffice solution provide higher levels of security, and ultimately greater levels of workforce productivity. AnyOffice has also improved performance across the entire network with a coverage area and multi-user throughput of 20 percent above industry standards. Thanks to more refined network planning, AnyOffice BYOD also allows
enterprises to leverage their improved WLAN infrastructure, creating value for their business while improving their return on investment. Paul Black, Director of Telecoms, IDC Middle East and Africa said: “With smartphones outstripping sales of PCs, Mobility is now a leading technology consideration for Middle Eastern Enterprises and BYOD is at the forefront of this movement.Like it or not, BYOD is happening informally in 28 percent of Middle Eastern Enterprises, so to protect themselves the need to develop a Mobility policy is sooner rather than later.” Another pillar of AnyOffice is an increased emphasis on
mobile collaboration and the user experience. The convergence of Unified Communications and telepresence enables the collaboration among voice, data, and high-definition video including workspace sharing and social media collaboration. The solution fully covers terminals, network, mobility management, collaborative applications, a unified security management policy, as well as a Mobile Enterprise Application Platform (MEAP) to enable IT managers to develop their own software in collaboration with partners. “With AnyOffice, people’s life and work will be connected through a diversity of smart
devices with work that is no longer confined to traditional PCs in offices, as we have moved to a culture where we can work whileon-the move,” added Wu. With 56 percent organisations expecting mobile workforce to increase in 2013-2014, market intelligence firm IDC predicts that by 2017 the mobile market will change significantly, with 30 percent of all mobiles shipped being smartphones. Even tablets are poised to move mainstream, with 20 percent tablets predicted to being shipped exclusively to businesses. All of Huawei’s latest solutions and products can be found at GITEX in the GULFCOMMS sector in Zabeel Hall, stand Z-E20.

Etisalat aims to showcase its ability to serve as a one stop shop for ICT solutions through demonstration of futuristic technologies during GITEX. Etisalat’s focus this year is on showcasing its solutions on workforce mobility, employee productivity, network efficiency, reducing cost and complexity. The BYOD Solution from Etisalat, powered by AirWatch, will enable IT administrators to manage largescale deployments of mobile devices of different operating systems. Customers will be able to quickly
enroll devices in the enterprise environment, configure and update device settings over-the-air, enforce security policies and compliance, secure mobile access to corporate resources, and remotely lock and wipe managed devices. Some of the key features include an ability to manage all devices in one console, create organization groups or import the existing directory structure through directory services integration, track compliance in real time, enroll devices in bulk and set up enrollment restrictions for users and devices among others. “There is a significant market opportunity for BYOD solutions as
corporate information security moves towards mobile devices that are non-compliant with security policies, thereby making security management a key challenge,” said Abdulla Hashim, Senior Vice President, ICT, Etisalat UAE. “In line with our goal of ensuring customer satisfaction, the tie-up with AirWatch will enable best-in-class service for enterprise customers by enriching our mobility offerings: from mobile device management and security to developing applications. The tie-up is in line with Etisalat’s plan of creating a larger partner eco-system of value-added solutions through partnerships to help drive
down costs. We will also continue our investment in the latest technologies to enable our customers to stay ahead of the technology curve.” Ian Evans, Managing Director, AirWatch EMEA, added: “We are proud to partner with the region’s largest telecommunications operator and to bring our comprehensive EMM services to Etisalat’s enterprise customers in the Middle East. “Our device and platform-agnostic EMM solutions will provide Etisalat’s business clients the flexibility to remotely access corporate information with end-to-end security extending to users, devices, applications, content, data, email and networks.”
EMT unveils new solutions Security solutions newcomer EMT Distribution is using GITEX to market a series of new products. The one-year-old company is unveiling its Secunia, 2X, Altaro, and is also conducting a special event aimed at its channel community. “If we look at the technology trends across the Middle East and Africa region, we see that IT security and virtualisation solutions are in high demand,” said Mohammad Mobasseri, CEO, EMT Distribution. “We’ve noticed a growing market here for security vendors over the last five or six years, and that’s why we’ve come here. Most of them don’t use the up-to-date

technologies, and as a result have encountered problems. Specifically, there is huge potential for growth in endpoint security, as companies look to transfer from anti-wires.
“In many countries in the region, due to use of state of the art IT infrastructure, certain areas of security such as encryption, DLP, web and application security, and so on, is also on the rise. The demand from end users is mainly focused towards solutions related to cloud computing and SaaS.” According to Mobasseri, there hasn’t been a major shift in what consumers want in ICT products today. “SMBs however seem to have become more flexible when it comes to solutions such as cloud computing. However, we see more and more SMBs now opting for solutions such as end point
security, next generation firewall, and core network security – areas that once used to be restricted to large enterprises,” he added. “With increasing awareness for information security and the increase in cyber security attacks in our region, demand for securing customer environments and centrally managing it to give visibility of who did what on the network has become a priority. “We are delighted to present our world-leading suite of IT security products and solutions in GITEX, where thousands of IT decision makers will no doubt be on the look-out for top-notch security products.”
Emerson, Mindware launch partnership programme Emerson’s Network Power division has used GITEX to announce the launch of its Innovation Partnership Programme with Mindware across the Middle East. The programme will extend to the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia, Qatar, Jordan and Lebanon. Peter Lambrecht, Vice President, Sales, IT and Finance Segment, Emerson Network Power, EMEA, said: “The main products we are focusing on at GITEX are Single-Face Power and EDUs; our ability to provide wall-to-wall infrastructure for a customer’s needs. It’s important for our customers to know that we can provide the support and data centre as well as the capability and technology to help them. “The Middle East is a strategic, less-saturated market for us in
comparison with other regions. Working with Mindware means that our partners can greatly

benefit from world-class training, information and tools, enabling them to address key customer
challenges while maximizing their revenue and opportunity potential. The implementation of the programme across EMEA means that the Middle East will be one of the first regions to join Emerson Network Power’s strategic Innovation Partnership Programme initiative.” Pierre Havenga, Managing Director, Emerson Network Power, MENA, added: “Last year 1654 patents were registered – nearly five a day – and so we realise the need for us to stay ahead of the game. We are mainly focusing on the SMB and enterprise side of things. As the customer grows we are able to grow to support them, and that’s what we’re here to show. “Emmerson is moving into a new facility in Jebel Ali, and we are investing in a large office in Saudi Arabia.”
