With the strength of offices in Qatar and Kuwait growing, the distributor hopes to expand even further in the coming year.

“We will continue to invest and put our additional resources in Saudi,” Gay said. “We are growing and hope to continue to do so in the coming year.

“In terms of expansion, we remain to be focused in the Middle East with a different coverage. We will be covering both, enterprise and SMB segments but with more focus towards the enterprise with the help of our complete range of portfolio.”

The growth in the Middle East region continues to be extremely

solid for the company, when compared to other markets around the world.

“The growth is happening which is why it makes it a lucrative market for us,” Gay said. “It is going to be a long wave and we want to live in its experience.”

The company is clear on its plan going forwad — with a minimum portfolio and appropriate investments in customer base, Mindware seeks to recruit new partners and provide them service to overall continue its growth in the market.

“On one side, you need to facilitate partners on the job and on the other, you need to also make them profitable in what they are doing. We continue to work along these lines,” Gay said.

2014 will be crucial for the company, he added, as it plans to strengthen the portfolio even further and bring in new products to achieve meaningful sales target.

GITEX 2013 set for strongest international year yet

The 33rd edition of GITEX Technology Week is on course to become one of the most internationally diverse and influential yet, with key players from across the globe increasingly drawn to the show’s ability to shed light on the latest trends and generate strong business leads.

International exhibitors are up 26 PERCENT compared to last year, and a total of 61 countries are present, including new countries like Belarus, Brazil, Finland, Kenya, Lithuania,

Serbia, Slovenia, Tunisia and Ukraine.

This year’s Official Country Partner is Serbia, and the union has already markedly boosted ICT trade links with the UAE. Delegations of senior officials were also present from countries including Bahrain, Egypt, India, Jordan, Morocco, Nigeria, Saudi Arabia, Tatarstan, Tunisia and United Kingdom.

One of the eye-catching Serbian exhibitors at GITEX Technology Week is Belgrade-based Nordeus, which is widely revered as one of Europe’s leading game developers.

The UK pavilion is also having a busy year, having increased its presence by 20 PERCENT compared to 2012. 67 companies are present, 25 of which have received financial support from the government-

backed UK Trade and Investment organisation.

This year, the UK’s participation gained an additional dimension with the presence of the Rt. Hon. Francis Maude, Minister for the UK Cabinet Office and Paymaster General, who delivered a keynote address at the inaugural Big Data Conference.

Other prominent European countries at the show are France and Germany, both of which had more than 30 exhibitors on site.

Belarus is among the new countries benefiting from GITEX Technology Week’s ROI-boosting credentials with companies like Minsk-based GPS pioneers Gurtam reporting a solid week of showcasing and networking action. South East Asia, meanwhile, accounts for 21 companies, including Japan’s Sumitomo Electric Industries, which is at the show for a sixth consecutive year.

As in 2012, Africa is out in force this year. In 2012, 19 percent of visitors hailed from Africa. This year, GITEX Technology Week organisers Dubai World Trade Centre aims to improve on that figure through its burgeoning Africa in Focus programme. Now in its second year, the initiative has been bolstered by additional pre-show outreach activities to include a host of country-specific road-shows.

The Nigeria pavilion was particularly bustling throughout the week, following a high profile opening by the Hon. Omobola Johnson, Minister of Nigeria’s Ministry of Communication

Technology. She was followed by showcases from exhibitors such as Omatek Computers and the Nigerian Ministry of Power.

Equally busywas the Indian Pavilion, which was inaugurated by Sanjay Verma, Consul General of India. India has a strong presence at GITEX Technology Week, with thirty-six companies taking part under the aegis of India’s Electronics and Computer Software Export Promotion Council.

Closer to home, more than 500 business and organisations from Saudi Arabia descended on Dubai, including big names such as Saudi Aramco, Saudi Electricity Company, SABIC, Saudi Airlines, STC, Mobily, Zain, Ibtikar, King Abdulaziz City for Science & Tech, King Abdullah Medical City and Al Rehman Technologies.

Qatar and Kuwait were also among the regional big-hitters, with both boasting more than 300 businesses and organisations at the show.

Cisco reveals annual cloud index

Cisco today launched the third annual Cisco Global Cloud Index at GITEX Technology Week.

The Index revealed that the Middle East and Africa region is expected to have the highest global cloud traffic growth rate (57 percent CAGR) by 2017, followed by Asia Pacific with 43 percent, and Central and Eastern Europe with 36 percent. It also highlighted that the region is projected to have the highest cloud workload growth rate of 45 percent CAGR. From 2012 to 2017, the Middle East and Africa region is expected to have the highest cloud workload growth rate (45 percent CAGR), followed by Asia Pacific (40 percent CAGR) and Central and Eastern Europe (31 percent CAGR).

Globally, except in the Middle East and Africa and Asia Pacific, traditional data centre workloads (rather than cloud workloads) will grow at a low-single-digit CAGR from 2012 to 2017, the report continued.

The Middle East and Africa is predicted to have a 27 percent increase in data centre workloads by 2017, followed closely by Asia Pacific with 24 percent and Central and Eastern Europe with 17 percent.

The region will also be leading the distribution of traditional data centre workloads by 2017, with a predicted increase of 13 percent with Asia Pacific following closely

behind with 11 percent and Central and Eastern Europe six percent.

Mark Hosking, Unified Computing Regional Sales Manager, Cisco, said: “This year’s forecast confirms this continuing trend and we are seeing huge increases in the amount of cloud traffic within, between and beyond data centres over the next four years.

“It is clear that the nextgeneration Internet will be an essential component to enabling much greater data centre virtualisation and a new world of interconnected clouds.”

He also added that one of the key reasons driving the adoption of cloud services in the region was the reduction in costs.

“One statistic that I always like to look at is that businesses spend an average of 75 percent of their OPEX on maintaining IT infrastructure and the remaining 25 percent on responding to new business requirements. In reality, these figures need to be the other way around. The shift to cloud can enable businesses to focus on their main priority – innovation.”

Hosking further explained that although the region’s overall approach to cloud services seems optimistic, the issues of status quo, security, uptime, accessibility and quality of service still pose to be major barriers to the adoption of cloud services.
