ZTE rolls out convergence solutions

ZTE is offering customers, such as government departments and organisations in the oil, power and transportation industries, ICT
convergence solutions based on a cloud computing platform. The ZTE solutions converge networks, platforms and applications along with image and data acquisition systems. Using them, a smart city can provide a public platform based on a cloud computing based data switching centre; a national broadband network integrating wireline broadband, wireless broadband, OSS and cloud computing based public service platforms; and smart-grids covering every link from power generation to customer service. With the ability to react intelligently to a vast range of data inputs, the systems aim to give end users convenient and fast services across a wide range of sectors. “This is one of the company’s key strategies in 2012, and ZTE has accumulated 15 years’ experience in the government and enterprise networks market,” said ZTE vice president Xu Ming. “ZTE has made significant inroads in the MEA (Middle East and Africa) enterprise network market, and has gained experience by leading ICT convergence solutions in South Africa, Egypt, Botswana, Mauritius, Nigeria and Tanzania. Almost 20% of our global business comes from the MEA region. We think there is a lot of opportunity here for both operators and enterprises,” said Wang Yiwen, CTO, Government and Enterprise Business, MEA, ZTE. “In the Gulf countries there will be a very big investment in transportation. It’s very important to develop economies, so there is a big potential out here. Also, because the government wants to improve efficiency and interact more with the general public, they also hold a lot of potential for us,” he added. According to its financial reports, ZTE saw a 26% year-on-year increase for the MEA region. Yiwen said the company anticipates at least another 20% regional growth in the next year.
Iomega signs Metra as VAD The storage specialist has signed Metra as a B2B VAD distributor for UAE, Oman, Bahrain, Iraq & Yemen, with the aim of increasing its reach into SMBs, SMB resellers and value-added resellers. “With our focus on the SMB channel, this comes as part of a wider reach strategy which Iomega is investing in for the ME region, with an tremendous focus to be on the ground to support the SMB market as well as the SMB business-to-business distribution structure. With Metra, we are fulfilling another part of our B2B reach and expanding our support. Dubai eGovernment launches Electronic Service Catalogue
On the sidelines of its ongoing participation in GITEX Technology Week 2012, Dubai eGovernment has launched its comprehensive Electronic Service Catalogue as part of its plans to offer more innovative channel-based services, which it regards as key pillars of Dubai eGovernment. To facilitate access for all industries, the 51 catalogued services are classified into two categories, the
first covers 42 services offered to government authorities and organisations, while the second includes nine services targeting individuals and businesses. The services are presented in a hierarchy showing the various divisions and sections of Dubai eGovernment, with detailed description on every service and its prerequisites. Some of the key services offered to
the public sector include government resource planning (GRP) systems which allow government entities to automate their resources and administrative processes; government information network enabling joint government network services and internet access; messaging and collaboration solutions offering online messaging and communication; and after-service support. The services provided to the public and corporate sector (citizens, residents, visitors and businesses) include the eRecruitment Portal offering job opportunities within Dubai government organizations; eComplaint system to file complaints with government entities; e-Suggest system where users can submit their suggestions on how to enhance service delivery; and ePay which allows users to pay their government-related bills and fines via the Internet.
