Omnix and SEDD demonstrate partnership at GITEX The Sharjah Economic Development Department (SEDD) is exhibiting alongside selected partners at GITEX, including Omnix International which recently helped implement a new archiving system.

The collaboration is one of many government projects that Omnix has been part of, and prides itself as being one of the key IT drivers for cutting edge technology in UAE government projects.

“By understanding the clients’ needs, we can develop the solutions for them. We work with different software partners to tackle the business issue of the customer,” said Mohammad Hasan Metla, CFO, Omnix.

“With SEDD, they couldn’t get required documents at the appropriate time, whether it was for customers, court reports, or other reasons. We are really focused on satisfying their needs by providing the solutions to these

problems.”

SEDD expressed its gratitude to Omnix and believes that by exhibiting together, it can

continue to demonstrate its strong relationship.

“Our problem with archiving was, say for example we needed documents from six years ago for a court dealing because people needed the reference. We couldn’t find these documents efficiently and quickly enough to maintain our business standards,” said Husam Barham, Head of Programming and Application Section, SEDD.

Saudi attacks will lead to better security awareness, says Symantec Leading security company, Symantec, has said that the recent security attacks across the Middle East present positives in the form of better awareness and reason to react to cyber threats.

Speaking at GITEX, Justin Doo, Security Practice Director, MENA, suggested that the Middle East has been ignorant to its vulnerability to cyber attacks and that taking positives from the recent breaches is the best thing to do.

“Cyber attacks are becoming more sophisticated,” he said.

“I believe in taking the positives out of attacks like the recent ones we’ve seen, and that is that Middle East businesses will now be more aware of and educated

on the present risks. This region had a very relaxed attitude to cyber security previously, a region that would know what was happening around the world but never believed it would happen to them.

Now, however, it has, and the best way to react to that is to take it seriously and look at the positives.”

“There are three elements that can expose weaknesses in your business; people, processes and technology. If you have a weakness in either of these then you’re going to be vulnerable,” he said.

Doo has been exhibiting at GITEX for some time now and believes the event is highly beneficial for a number of reasons.

Merging speed with security Celebrating its second year at GITEX, leading application delivery specialist, F5 Networks, spoke about the need to cement propositions in the region by offering a better value-added service and security.

“Changing the behaviour of what is delivered and how it is delivered is paramount. We have customers asking us not to change what they are doing, but to help them do it better. Increasing the efficiency of data and distributing it accordingly, with a user-friendly experience, is where we are positioning ourselves,” said Nicolas Benisti, Senior Marketing Manager, South, EMEA,

at F5 Networks.

Benisti explained that in addition to its initial service of installing a product firewall as a back-up to existing protection programs, many customers have now adopted

their applications as the sole firewall protection. With an ability to read, recognise and analyse more traffic, and to do it faster, F5 is drawing customer demand from sectors including service providers, government, and finance.

What F5 is offering customers, is a streamlined, central gateway for traffic management. Consolidated features that all coordinate and talk with each other, removes the need for a customer to have various different applications not working in sync,” noted Benisti.

Through partnerships with companies like Microsoft, SAP and VMware, F5 Networks is not only

reinforcing its application services, but also working to tap-up added security with the cloud. With the talk of technology security this GITEX this year focusing on BYOD, they have also positioned their delivery offering to sync with smart customers.

Whether this morning’s announcement of partnership between Cisco and Citrix will affect F5 and its position in the market, still remains to be seen. Early indicators point to stiff competition if this partnership can produce the pre-emptive security applications, instead of the reactionary products available to customers.

SanDisk flaunts latest ReadyCache release at GITEX SanDisk recently announced the release of ReadyCache, a hardware solution product designed to improve boot and application launch times, and is demonstrating its quality at GITEX. Pascal de Boer, VP, Retail Sales and Marketing EMEA, claims the solution is affordable, easy-toinstall and will significantly improve desktop performance.

“At $55 (approx AED190) it is an ideal tool which utilises hard drive

storage by using SSD (solid state drive) technology,” he said.

“It’s great to be able to exhibit at GITEX because we still have a lot of seeding to do in this region.

Being here and demonstrating our solutions is a fantastic opportunity for us.”

SanDisk is the inventor of Flash memory which resulted in the first digital camera. It is no stranger to storage and application performance and ReadyCache is

an example of that.

“With this product you get faster boot times, letting consumers shut down their systems in moments, if not seconds. It supports highcapacity hard drives so users get to enjoy maximum storage space and it enables seamless multi-tasking so users can run applications simultaneously with great ease,” he said.

De Boer claims that the SSD technology is ideally placed in the

Middle East due to geographical elements.

“This technology is all about power consumption, speed and cooling. In a place like the Middle East, as simple as it sounds, cooling is very important due to the climate here,” he said.

SanDisk hopes to grow on its market presence in the MENA region and believes that GITEX is the ideal platform with which to do that.
