WD aims to grow storage footprint
Western Digital (WD) completes twelve years with GITEX this year. The company comes to
GITEX every year with an aim to strengthen relationships with the existing channel partners and end-users, says Khwaja Saifuddin, Senior Sales Director, MEA, WD. “GITEX has been a key showcase of technology for the region and is indeed something Dubai can be proud of for hosting. Our takeaway is the engagement we gain with audience that has travelled to Dubai from across the world.” The company’s focus at GITEX this year is storage solutions. These include personal cloud solution My Cloud and wireless storage solution My Passport
Wireless. Both of them are hardware storage solutions with software capabilities. Both the solutions enable storage on-the-go without straining the computing device whether it is a mobile phone, a tablet or a desktop PC. My Passport offers one terabyte of storage on-the-go to five devices connected over a wireless network. “This means one can save pictures from a Digital SLR device, save movies from iPad or download music from a smartphone to the storage solution at the same time 4 CONTINUED ON PAGE 3
Bulwark eyes growth opportunities
With Gartner predicting the security spend in the region to reach $1 billion in the region, the securityfocused VAD Bulwark Technologies to looking to ride the crest of this growth wave.
“Security is now a boardroom-level discussion. During the economic downtown, many corporates bought only must-have security solutions, pushing the nice-to-have to the backburner. Now, that is beginning to change,” says Jose Thomas, Managing Director, Bulwark Technologies. Bulwark is present at Gitex, showcasing its 14 vendors, including the newly signed ones such as SecuEnvoy and Netwrix. “Between these vendors, we offer all the latest technologies spanning privilege identity management, vulnerability management and two-factor
authentication, in addition to all other common security technologies.” Thomas says what sets Bulwark apart in the burgeoning security distribution market is its technical support capabilities. “We are known for our support services to partners. We have well-trained, certified staff to support any partner or customer. We train our partner and help them with PoCs and lead-generation activities. Besides, we can handle most of the level 1 and 2 support on behalf of our vendors, and we act as their extended arm in this market.” He 4 CONTINUED ON PAGE 5 adds that

without using memory of either of the devices,” Saifuddin says. On the other hand, My Cloud is a personal cloud solution for the enterprise user that needs storage size of up to 12 terabytes but prefers to host the data on one’s own premise, Saifuddin says. Saifuddin expects the enterprise user to have a larger demand for storage solutions for surveillance, mobility, and advanced connectivity of devices, systems, and services that goes beyond machine-to-machine communications (M2M), the Internet of Things. Over the next few years, that is the storage capability WD intends to bring to the MEA markets, Saifuddin adds.
Thecus Network Attached Storage is offering a live display at GITEX Technology Week, showing its 5-bay, Intel-powered Windows Storage Server 2012 R2 Essentials W5000, home entertainment cloud, its N2560, as well as the N16000PRO and D16000. As part of the Taiwan Excellence
Award exhibition, visitors will also be able to the take a look at the N7710-G, which comes standard with 10GbE connectivity and ECC RAM. “Empowering professionals at an international hub as critical to global commerce as Dubai is a task at the forefront of the Thecus agenda, and GITEX once again provides the perfect infrastructure for sharing our latest innovative storage solutions to the Middle East and world at large,” said Florence Shih, CEO, Thecus Technology Corporation. “And thanks to our esteemed partner, GCT, as well as the Taiwan External Trade Development Council, we’re
looking forward to showing visitors exactly what makes Thecus the leader in storage” “As one of the leading solution providers in the field of IT peripherals, networking, and display solutions, we’re excited to unveil for the first time in EMEA the one-of-a-kind W5000,” said Milad N.Jabbour, President & CEO, GCT. “Such a partnership between Intel, Microsoft, Thecus, and GCT highlights our commitment to providing exceptional hardware to professionals who need nothing but the best.” Thecus and GCT are based in Zabeel Hall, booth ZL-B1.

Focus Softnet launches Apps store
Focus Softnet has launched its new Apps Store to buy the company’s business application add-ons ranging from ERP apps to vertical-specific apps. The new store will allow the company’s customers to choose between PC, web and mobile apps. “The core concept behind the launch of
our Apps Store was in the packaging and presentation of the Apps Portfolio that we carry,” said Ali Hyder, Group CEO, Focus Softnet. “In keeping with global trends, we embraced the Apps Store design for two main purposes, ease of use in terms of finding the appropriate app relevant to the business/customer requirement, and clarity of understanding, wherein the layout of the Apps Store makes the purpose of the Apps fairly straightforward and easy to understand. Clients, both existing and prospective, can now look at Apps in the Apps Store and immediately identify the App that would be ideally suited to the solution they wish to implement, and our technology consultants can build the package around that specific requirement to deploy an end-to-end solution. Our core products were always listed on our website, and now, through the new Apps Store,
their extensions are made equally visible. Our clients should now find it much easier to pick through the store and identify solutions that they require.” Hosted on the company’s website under ‘Our Apps’ section, Focus Softnet’s new App store features a wide range of Apps for the PC, Web and Mobile platforms. Some of the Apps listed on the website are Web-apps such as Utility Billing and Machine and Job allocation, PC Apps such as Media Planner, Business Intelligence – Sales, Employee Appraisal, Quotation Analysis, Product query, Accounts payable, Bulk emailing, Payment reminder notifications and Consignment sales and mobile apps such as Focus i Mobile, e-RMS Customer, Inventory app, E-RMS waiter app, Focus M-POS and Customer Self Service. Focus Softnet will be adding many more apps in the coming months.
ManageEngine announces compliance report tool
Real-time IT management company ManageEngine has announced the addition of PCI DSS 3.0 compliance reporting to EventLog Analyzer, its security information and event management (SIEM) software, at GITEX Technology Week 2014. defined by PCI DSS 3.0 requirements 10 and 11.5. ManageEngine will be demonstrating EventLog Analyzer and itsnew PCI DSS 3.0 compliance reporting features in booth A7-10. PCI DSS 3.0 became active on 1st January 2014, establishing 12 security requirements that concern the protection of payment card data. Businesses that accept, store, process, or transmit customer’s card data must adhere to the 12 requirements by January 1, 2015. Businesses that do not comply with PCI DSS 3.0 requirements will face penalties ranging from heavy fines to forfeiture of their licenses to process payment card transactions. “PCI DSS 3.0 compliance has become a crucial security element,” said Chenthil Kumaran, Product Manager, ManageEngine. “The recent payment card data breaches at retail giants such as Target and Home Depot have elevated the need for
organisations from various industries to secure their customers’ payment card data from threats.” PCI DSS 3.0 requirements 10 and 11.5 are considered to be the most challenging to fulfill for securing and protecting customers’ payment card data from threats. PCI DSS 3.0 requirement 10 pushes enterprises to gain security intelligence to know the “who, what, where, and when” of users accessing the network resources and cardholder data whereas PCI DSS 3.0 requirement 11.5 focuses on the protection of critical files from unauthorised access. EventLog Analyzer features out-of-the-box reporting, which enables analysis of the complete user audit trail to identify who is logging into their systems, when they logged into the systems and what activities they carried out on the systems. EventLog Analyzer›s new file integrity monitoring (FIM) reporting feature allows businesses to track changes happening to their files in real-time.

“Security is now a boardroom-level discussion. During the economic downtown, many corporates bought only must-have security solutions, pushing the nice-to-have to the backburner. Now, that is beginning to change.”

Plus, the Plug & Play feature for all major operation systems means no calibration or driver installation is required. In line with NEC’s Green Vision, the displays offer a power saving mode, and can be programmed to ‘wake up’ on touch input for further power management. Furthermore, users can perform automatic functional tests to determine if there are any problems with the touch display, for full of peace of mind that they will continue performing around the clock.
