Websense seeks partners from the region

Websense’s presence within the Middle Eastern region is a decade old. The company differentiates itself from other IT security solution providers as its solutions are comprehensive, consolidated and cost effective, says

Husamettin Baskaya, Sr. Director, Regional Sales MENA, Websense. “It is a very exciting market for us and we continue to invest in it - only then, we will see returns”, Baskaya says. “We have been exhibiting at GITEX for five years through our distributors – Arrow, StarLink and OTech. Compared to the other two, StarLink is a new addition to Websense portfolio that came on board right before GITEX.” Websense has a presence globally but the Middle Eastern region is

the fastest growing market. “Since 2012, we have realized more than 50 percent growth year-on-year, Baskaya says. ”Our investment within the region has also grown multi-fold with regards to the number of sales and technical staff hired within the region over the last three years.” Websense products are built on TRITON architecture that compliments sandboxing technology. The UAE TRA unveils mobile app

The Telecommunications Regulatory Authority (TRA) announced today the launch of its inaugural mobile application during GITEX Technology Week. The UAE TRA App was

designed to simplify multiple communication processes by providing users with assistance at their fingertips. The mobile application was developed to offer solutions to several areas of user concern. With seven segments being covered, services include device verification, report SMS marketing, signal coverage and much more. H.E. Mohamed Nasser Al Ghanim, Director General of TRA said, “We are pleased to announce TRA’s first ever mobile application in the region’s most anticipated ICT event. The UAE TRA App will be available for download in approved smart

phones and will enable our continued efforts to improve services within the telecommunications sector. GITEX is certainly the most suited platform to release the latest TRA technological advances.” The Mobile Verification service verifies the originality of the device used. This is done by automatically capturing or manually inputting the device’s IMEI. A message will be generated and sent to the service provider to confirm device authenticity. Approved Devices service is a platform that acts as a search engine listing all TRA approved devices. The 4 CONTINUED ON PAGE 4

Looking ahead, Baskaya feels IT security products demanded in the region will skew towards cloud. The company aims to strengthen its presence in the cloud security space by entering into partnerships with cloud service providers with data centres hosted within the region. “Websense’s approach to selecting partners is unique in the sense that we seek mutual growth and mutual investment whether it is in training or technical support,” Baskaya says.

Dubai foreign trade in IT hardware up 10%

Statistics released from Dubai Customs have shown that Dubai’s foreign trade in IT hardware for H1 2014 grew by 10% to AED 126 billion, compared to AED 115 billion

for the first half of 2013. The surge in trade volume of IT hardware is attributed to the growing local demand of such merchandise, due to the booming ICT sector to keep pace with the emirate’s efforts to become the world’s smartest city within three years. Ahmed Abdul Salam Kazim, Director of Strategy and Corporate Excellence Department at Dubai Customs, noted “The growth in Dubai’s foreign trade in IT hardware mirrors the successful transformation of the UAE into a Knowledge Economy.” This is clearly reflected in the Global Competitiveness Report

issued by the World Economic Forum in 2014, which shows the country’s remarkable advancement in competitiveness indicators, becoming the 12th most competitive nation globally. Kazim added: “We are keen on providing the best customs facilitations for trading in IT hardware, in an effect to enrich Dubai’s capacity to accommodate an even larger share of the world trade in these products. We are currently cooperating with the world’s most prominent mobile phones and laptop companies, seeking to leverage Dubai’s status as a starting point for their products distribution to the world.”

New Vision IQ recognised as 2014 Laserfiche Winners Circle Achiever

New Visions IQ, an information and communication technology company based in Baghdad, has

been named a 2014 Laserfiche Winners Circle Achiever. Since 1999, the Laserfiche

Winners Circle Program has recognized top-selling achievers within the Laserfiche value-added reseller (VAR) community. New Vision, along with other top-selling Laserfiche channel partners, will be recognized at an awards ceremony in January 2015 in California. Led by Executive Director Mohammed Qasim, New Visions has already made inroads helping many key agencies across Iraq implement Laserfiche. In doing so, the agencies have made advancements to their existing processes and have seen the positive advantages of having Laserfiche as a part of their IT infrastructure.

“With Laserfiche, they don’t need to make huge upfront investments to move their offices toward much greater efficiency,” said Qasim. “When we show them how much more they can do with Laserfiche, they start to think differently about their plans and agencies. We’re no longer talking about tools to help find documents, we’re talking about ways to better serve Iraq.” New Visions has also provided their expertise to several Iraqi education institutions, which are realizing the same benefits. “While others see a country in crisis, Mohammed sees a land of opportunity,” said Laserfiche Vice President of International Business Sean Tang. “We’re particularly proud of Mohammed and New Vision for helping the vital agencies of Iraq grow, which ultimately helps Iraq grow.”
