Oracle leads uptake of cloud software in the region Oracle’s presence at Gitex is enormous. More than just a booth, Oracle has practically taken over an entire Hall. Arun Khehar, Vice President, ECEMEA Head – Business Applications Unit, Oracle, relaxes for a moment in the Oracle VIP Majilis near Hall 5. Oracle has had a busy few weeks, with its Open World event having just ended at the beginning of October. The company has over 390,000 customers in 145 countries. It is reducing the cost of speed and ownership with its over 200 applications. “There is simply no product line we cannot service,” says Khehar.

Oracle’s virtualization services are on the mark to make an enormous difference in the region. “After the advent of the Internet, I believe that Cloud is the most revolutionary change in the IT industry,” says Khehar. From education to healthcare, every industry vertical needs a cloud, and Oracle is there to provide the services and support that goes along with it. There are over 150 thousand users of SAS services in the region.

The IT market is changing radically, with users facing new challenges require a much higher level of performance from their infrastructures; and our extended vendor portfolio will prove to be of benefit to the channel,” explains Ghalib. “We are continuously looking for opportunities to expand our vendor portfolio in order to provide our partners with all the solutions under one roof.”

2014 has been a good year for distributor so far, says Ghalib. “We have managed to sail smoothly through the first half but for the remaining year we plan to increase focus on highlighting the upcoming new technologies but also to expand our footprint in the region.”

The public cloud services market in the Middle East and North Africa (MENA) region is on pace to grow 21 percent in 2014 to total $747 million, up from an estimated $616 million in 2013, according to Gartner, Inc. Software as a service (SaaS), the largest single segment of the cloud services market in MENA, is expected to grow 28 percent in 2014 to $166 million.

Gartner predicts that from 2014 through 2018, $5.5 billion will be spent on cloud services in MENA region, $1.7 billion of which will be spent on business process as a service (BPaaS).

“The Middle East and North Africa region has demonstrated steady growth, and we predict

continued growth through 2018,” said Ed Anderson, research vice president at Gartner. “Annual growth in public cloud services will average 21.5 percent from 2014 through 2018.”

SaaS is expected to grow from $130 million in 2013 to $432 million in 2018. IaaS is expected to grow from $61 million in 2013 to $161 million in 2018.

While growth in cloud services is high across all segments, growth in BPaaS will be lowest growth segment, expected to grow 8.2 percent over a 5-year period through 2018. Platform as a service (PaaS) is expected to grow from $35 million in 2013 to $112 million in 2018 as organization

ESET staff have been in a buoyant mood at their animated and userfocused stand upon their 10-year GITEX Technology Week anniversary.

Polycom rolls out video-enabled carts Polycom has announced the availability of the Polycom RealPresence Utility Cart 500 and the Polycom RealPresence EduCart 500 in the UAE - two new video-enabled solutions, designed specifically for use in the enterprise and education sectors.

These packaged solutions that are being showcased at Gitex Technology Week 2014, are standalone units, which allow users to easily bring highdefinition room-based video conferencing and content sharing to a variety of locations beyond a dedicated conference room.

The units have been designed to provide an affordable, mobile solution for customers looking to implement video collaboration in any available space of their choice across their business or education environment. In addition, the carts can be customised with peripherals such as HD document cameras or projectors, for use in detailed inspections and presentations.

“More organisations and industries now demand to use video collaboration outside the conference room and have it embedded into their operational and business processes,” said Ramy Alam, Regional Sales Director, Gulf, Polycom.

“Gitex Technology Week serves as the best platform to demonstrate these new video and content collaboration solutions that are engineered to create a dynamic collaborative workplace, which can cater to the needs of changing business environments,” he added.

Among the cart’s standard features is a single 27-inch or dual 22-inch 1080p full HD LED backlit monitors, mounting points for wireless access, and an access panel that includes two USB ports, HDMI, VGA and audio from codec, for multiple peripheral connectivity. The battery module gives up to five hours of operation, and is available in 110 or 230 volt AC versions. For easy maneuverability and durability, the RealPresence Utility Cart 500 also comes fitted with sturdy stainless steel handles, and five casters for enhanced stability.“
