The Jannah Place Marina has already gone through a soft launch of its systems, and is scheduled to open for full operations in November. The solution included the implementation of a network infrastructure (switches, routers and WLAN), IT servers and the latest unified communications and collaboration solutions.

“When a guest checks into a hotel, the first thing they ask for is Wi-Fi. They expect it to be fast, and that is what we can provide.” Starting from November, the hotel will offer guests 50 MB hotel internet access using their own devices across all areas of the resort including all rooms and public areas from the lobby, the pool to restaurants.

Huawei’s continued partnership and support of the Jannah Hotel and Resort group will not be limited to the 133 room Jannah Place Marina. “We plan on being a part of Jannah’s other properties around the region,” says Dweik. “We will also be there to provide support throughout the implementations and beyond. This is a true partnership.”

Brocade... is changing,” says Jewell. Indeed, the company has built a name for itself in terms of innovation. This year, Brocade will take Gitex as an opportunity to showcase MLX series routers to businesses of all sizes in the region.

Brocade has been steadily expanding in the region, and for good reason. “The Middle East is unique in a few ways,” says Jewell.

“There is a rapidly expanding middle class here, as well as incredibly support from local governments. At Gitex, there is simply no pessimism to this show. You can genuinely come here and do business.”

Next year, says the Brocade top-brass, we can hope to see a significant individual presence from Brocade at Gitex, with some very exciting news to announce.

Sophos comes to Gitex with Project Galileo in the pipeline Sophos has come to GITEX this year with a range of cloud solutions that make security simple by eliminating the complexities within network layers. This marks the company’s seventh year of presence at the show in a row.

Few months down the line Sophos will be introducing similar solutions for the private space that will counter security threats consumers experience in the Internet of Things (IoT) space, Thomas Thoelke, Territory Manager, Sophos NEEMA, said.

Sophos’ approach to cloud is different from other cloud vendors in the market as its solutions offer endpoint to endpoint management, Thoelke added.

“This is where Project Galileo comes into play – it is a convergence of various solutions that together allow network components to communicate with endpoint components. It intends to provide integrated security without adding any further complexities to the existing infrastructure which will not

be limited to the enterprise space only,” said Thoelke.

Compared to similar solutions existing in the market, the project intends to roll out solutions that would scan all systems connected to the network for traces for malicious intrusions – it gives each component of the system complete visibility into all other components and lets them all make collective decisions on where there is a loophole that can be targeted by malware,” Chester Wisniewski, Senior Security Advisor, Sophos, said.

Sophos has acquired many companies in the last couple of years, the most recent one being Cyberoam, whose iView solution is the highlighted product this year.

NEC showcases latest portfolio NEC Display Solutions, a participant at GITEX for the last eight years, is showcasing its portfolio of products at this year’s ICT event.

Ian Gobey, General Manager Middle East and Africa, NEC Display Solutions says, “GITEX draws people from all around the region and is a good opportunity to meet up with our customers and partners. However, as our business is quite diversified and there is only a limited amount of space, it is becoming difficult to represent ourselves in the way we want.”

According to Gobey, the company is not making any big announcements at the event as today we are in an era where people expect the latest from the technology space at almost an immediate pace.

The company’s main distributor for the region is Westcon. “Our

channel strategy has always been to work very closely with our partners, which includes resellers and systems integrators, who have a leverage in the market verticals, which we are catering to,” he says. “Part of the partnership we offer is not only commercial reliability but it is also about the knowledge transfer. Our products are not just about projectors and displays, it is more about solutions and applications. We have to make sure that our partners are aware about the key features and benefits of our products but also help them to sell these solutions to their customers.”
