Dubai Airports, Huawei to build tier 3 designed modular data centre Huawei and Dubai Airports have today signed a partnership that will see the vendor deploy a data centre solution to support the increasing ICT needs of the ‘world’s fastest growing’ airport. SAP: We will save Dubai $5 billion

SAP’s UAE managing director Tayfun Topkoc has pledged to save the UAE government more than $5 billion over the next five years. Speaking from the company’s Hall 6 stand, Topkoc also revealed the company’s plans to invest “$100 million” for the same period, in developing the country’s regional infrastructure and Dubai data centre. “There are a range of opportunities for this country,” Topkoc said. “From ensuring a better use of energy, better waste
management and improved emergency services, the coming five years will be incredibly exciting in terms of the opportunities that technology can bring.” The firm’s global CEO Bill McDermott announced plans to build an SAP public data centre in the Middle East in May, and Topkoc has taken pledged his commitment to make the most of the plans. “This will be our first data centre in the EMEA south region,” he said. “We have announced a 4 CONTINUED ON PAGE 5

The DXB data centre will be the first of two planned modular facilities that Huawei will build for Dubai
Airports. Together, they will operate as a pair of mirrored Tier III data centres interconnected through a dedicated fibre optic link that will provide high-level resilience and availability to support the critical operations of Dubai Airports. HPE partners with du
Hewlett Packard Enterprise has announced a five-year collaboration agreement with UAE-based telecommunications service provider, ‘du’, to support the Smart Dubai initiative – Dubai’s citywide transformation into a smart city, as one of the key system integrators. This initiative supports the vision of His Highness Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, to make Dubai the happiest city on earth and accelerate the development
and deployment of solutions to improve quality of life, drive economic growth and create sustainable communities. du is the Strategic Partner of Smart Dubai Office for the development and implementation of the Smart Dubai Platform. du is leading a consortium of multiple best-in-bread vendors; HPE is one of the companies entrusted with the system integration of the platform designed by Smart Dubai.
Under the terms of the agreement, HPE will provide IT infrastructure, data center services, operational support and will act as the system integrator for the Smart Dubai Platform. The platform will be the central operating system for the city, providing access to city services and data for all individuals, including private and public sector entities. The phased project will be rolled out over three stages, with the initial platform expected to go live by the end of 2016. “Governments and cities globally want to drive sustainable societies, and the UAE’s Smart City plan is futuristic and a one-of-itskind initiative,” said Herbert Zierl, Managing Director Middle East, Hewlett Packard Enterprise. “This is a landmark agreement and we
