PNY Technologies strengthens presence in the Middle East

PNY Technologies, a US-based company offering a variety of consumer, commercial and OEM products and solutions, has announced plans to strengthen its presence in the Middle East.

In January this year, the company took over Imation’s operations in the Middle East.

The company now offers a wide array of products through brands including Imation, HP and NVIDIA. The company is a

manufacturer and supplier of flash memory cards, USB flash drives, solid state drives, cables, computer memory upgrade modules, NVIDIA GeForce consumer graphics cards and NVIDIA Quadro professional graphics cards.

At this year’s GITEX, the vendor is aiming to spread awareness about its market capabilities and the continuity of Imation’s business under the PNY brand.

Dell Technologies: UAE and KSA firms rattled by digital start-ups

The vast majority (85%) of businesses believe digital startups will pose a threat to their organisation, either now or in the future, according to new research from Dell Technologies.

This phenomenon is propelling innovative companies forward and accelerating the demise of others. Almost half (45%) of businesses surveyed fear they may become obsolete in the next three to five years due to competition from digitalborn start-ups.

More than half (54%) of business leaders have experienced significant disruption in their industries over the past three years as a result of digital technologies and the Internet of Everything, and 44% of businesses don’t

know what their industry will look like in three years’ time.

The findings result from an independent survey by Vanson Bourne of 4,000 business leaders - from mid-size to large enterprises - across 16 countries and 12 industries including the UAE and Saudi Arabia.

“We’re in the midst of the next industrial revolution that will fundamentally alter the way we live, work and relate to one another,” said Mohammed Amin, senior vice president, Turkey, Eastern Europe, Africa and Middle East, Dell EMC. “This shift will transform the way every business in every industry operates.

We are already witnessing a transformation of business priorities as both public and private sector entities across this vast region continue to invest in advanced new technologies to better meet changing customer needs and expectations.

“In the near future, almost every business will have software development expertise at its core. Many of these companies will be

brand new; others – having not written a line of code in 20 years – will have been on a momentous journey. New digital products and services will drive the transformation of IT infrastructure as businesses struggle to manage 1000x more users and 1000x more data. We believe that this monumental change is rich with opportunity, and we see ourselves as the transformational catalyst, and partner, for our customers,” While only parts of many businesses are thinking and acting digitally, the vast majority (71%) admit that digital transformation could be more widespread throughout their organisation.

The main focus for the company at this year’s event is extending awareness of their new community offerings.

He added, “Secondly, we’ve created a threat scanner which end-users can download onto their machine to scan for

threats. We have also launched a PCI scanner, so if customers have concerns about credit card information on their endpoints, they can simply launch this scanner and it will identify every document or file which has that crucial information on it. Since we have the visibility and reach that we do, why not share it?”

Reflecting on what has already been an exciting week for Fidelis

at GITEX, Mical commented on how having visited the event for years, he has seen it grow into the “phenomenal” exhibition it is today.

“GITEX is a great way for us to meet prospective customers and partners,” he said. “We’ve already been completely flooded so far this week, and I expect today to be another tidal wave of activities.”

Ministry of Finance launches ‘MoF Private Cloud’

In line with its commitment to provide the latest solutions to develop its government financial work, and adhering with information security, best practices, policies and procedures; the Ministry of Finance (MoF) has launched its private cloud at GITEX.

‘MoF Private Cloud’ provides a “secure” IT infrastructure, with minimal intervention from operators and system administrators.

The solution was launched at the main stand of the federal government at GITEX, in the presence of HE Younis Haji Al

Khoori, Undersecretary of MoF; HE Musabah Mohammed Al Suwaidi, Undersecretary for Support Services Sector at MoF; and a number of heads of departments and officials from the Ministry.

HE Younis Haji Al Khoori stressed the Ministry’s commitment to adopt the latest IT models to enhance government services as per the high quality standards. He said said, “The Ministry continues to develop its services by offering a government platform with high standards of security and safety.

The Ministry follows the latest tech developments, starting its ICT innovation journey in 1960 with the development of the

mainframe, followed by the central servers leading up to today’s cloud computing. This new concept of data centre is built on a fully virtualised software and cloud infrastructure that integrates selfservice provisioning and automated management.”

Through its participation, the Ministry is hoping to establish “effective communication” to attend to customers’ needs, which it hopes will in turn strengthen the level of government services provided. A number of interactive workshops are being held on updates and developments of the most used and popular smart services, under the theme “Customer’s Voice”.
