Ministry of Justice Saudi Arabia signs strategic deal with Nexthink The Ministry of Justice (MOJ) of the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia has signed a strategic deal with Nexthink at GITEX, to implement its IT analytics solution to improve IT visibility and security.

Microsoft launches Windows Server 2016 and System Center 2016

Microsoft is demonstrating has unveiled Windows Server 2016 and System Center 2016 in the Middle East at GITEX. Windows Server 2016 houses a cloud-ready application platform, built-in security, and tools to build software-defined infrastructures.

System Center 2016, Microsoft’s on-premise systemmanagement platform, offers support for software-defined data centres, and integrates tightly with the enhanced Microsoft Operations Management Suite (OMS), cloud-based heterogeneous management tool for private and public clouds.

Palo Alto releases ransomware research

Palo Alto Networks has used GITEX to release the results of a poll into GCC security professionals’ view of ransomware.

The poll, which gathered insights from security professionals across the United Arab Emirates, Saudi Arabia and Qatar, provides insight into how companies perceive and deal with the threat of ransomware.

The focus verticals for the survey were government, financial services,

education, healthcare, automotive, construction and utilities.

According to the poll, 32 percent of respondents view the threat of ransomware as severe in the region, indicating that threat perception and awareness in the region are high. A further 34 percent of respondents believe the threat to be moderately high.

26 percent of organisations, admitted to have suffered a ransomware attack in the past.

When asked about their level of responses, 38 percent of respondents said that they were able to intercept and prevent the infection.

This demonstrates a level of awareness that has enabled many organisations to minimise the

impact of this growing threat.

However, 48 percent said they were able to restore the lost files from a backup, minimising the impact after the fact. Only 9 percent of organisations did not pay the ransom and therefore suffered data loss.

The majority of respondents, irrespective of sectors, adopted a preparation, prevention or detection/monitoring approach to ransomware attacks, giving them a more proactive stance in dealing with this threat. When it comes to having an effective strategy in place, irrespective of cost, 41 percent thought that a preventative approach was the best approach.

Dubai Department of Finance launches ‘Open Data Portal’

The Government of Dubai’s Department of Finance (DOF) revealed at GITEX a unique digital portal to educate individual and corporate customers on governmental fees and fines.

The Open Data Portal for Governmental Fees and Fines will also prevent fees duplication, according to DOF, the point for governmental fees and fines in the Government of Dubai.

DOF envisioned having a sophisticated open data portal that would be easily accessible to the public. The idea behind creating this portal was to share information related to fees, fines, charges, tariffs and taxes that are charged by various government entities. goods, services or various taxes.

The dashboard will show all services provided by the Dubai’s governmental entities, along with their fees and related penalties.

“Building a unified governmental fees and fines database will allow government entities to know each other’s fees and fines,” said Jamal Hamed al-Marri, executive director for Central Accounts, DOF. “Knowledge sharing will not only spur the entities to propose new ideas to develop the government revenues, but will also contribute greatly in ensuring there is no duplication of fees and fines across the entities and therefore increase the results efficiency to close to 100 per cent.”
