Juniper survey reveals strong surge of interest in CCTV systems
Marcus Jewell, Juniper Networks
Juniper Networks revealed GITEX the results of market research that examines the ongoing deployment of CCTV surveillance systems and underlying network infrastructure in the Middle East. The research commissioned by Juniper suggests that the key drivers for increasing investments in both CCTV and supporting network infrastructure are ongoing concerns for stakeholders around enforceable safety measures and demonstrable compliance. The market research suggests that Middle East respondents spent an average of U$3.6 million on 4 CONTINUED ON PAGE 4

ESET highlights new launches
Dimitris Raekos, ESET
ESET has been participating at GITEX since establishing an office in the region in 2007. At this year’s trade show, we will see the firm launching ESET Threat Intelligence, which is a service for enterprise customers. Dimitris Raekos, general manager, ESET, said, “The service includes
sandboxing, early warning system and botnet feeds. This is going to help the enterprise customers to predict and prevent any type of attacks in their networks. “We are also previewing our BETA cloud administrator, which is a solution for our SMB customers. From next year, SMB customers will be able to use our cloud platform in order to manage and deploy endpoint securities efficiently to their networks without the need to install our server on premise.” According to Raekos, this is going to be high availability platform and will be available for customers with up to 250 users. The security firm is also highlighting its MSP partner programme at this year’s exhibition. He added, “In this programme,
Endpoint security solutions in the future will be offered as part of a services platform. This is why we are focusing on these kind of associations with regional MSPs.” we are able to provide our endpoint security solution as a service with daily billing and monthly invoices. The more licenses they have in their portal and deploy to their customers, the less is the daily price of solutions.”
Believing that MSPs are going to be the future of security, Raekos says, “Endpoint security solutions in the future will be offered as part of a services platform. This is why we are focusing on these kind of associations with regional MSPs.” Attendees will also hear about the firm’s latest consumer products by the end of the week. “We are celebrating 30 years of continuous IT security innovation. We are going to provide our customers additional months of protection when they buy our products.” Raekos adds, “ESET has never been a marketing company, we are always emphasising on technology. We are focusing on multi-layer technology, which includes machine learning and other related emerging technologies.”

few years,” he said. “It’s been the fastest adopted Windows release ever, and we currently have approximately 500 million devices running Windows 10 globally.” Arif also highlighted that the company aims to ensure Windows 10 is “evergreen,” by continuing to release operating system enhancements and security updates on a bi-annual basis. “It’s almost like getting a brand new car twice a year,” he joked. Windows 10 is the last major update that Microsoft plans to pursue as things stand. “Updating our systems biannually in this way ensures that our customers receive the latest updates every sixth months, which is much preferred over our previous tactic of creating a major release every three years. The fast-paced industry that we find ourselves in, particularly from a security standpoint, means that this would no longer suffice in a business environment.” The Creators Update features include enhanced Windows Inking, which allows manual pen-style amendments on top of PDFs, making it easier and faster to collaborate, which is particularly effective in the education sector, according to Arif.

“The use of smart inking is something we want to emphasise here at GITEX, as despite the notion that everything is going digital, we believe it is important that children in particular still utilise the use of a physical pen,” said Arif. CCTV surveillance systems and related infrastructure in their last financial year; 39 percent of surveyed organisations reported an average of 100 or more deployed CCTV cameras. The research also highlights an increased focus on underlying network infrastructure to enhance CCTV performance capabilities. According to the results, surveyed organisations spent an average of $2.6 million on network infrastructure and US$675,000 on network security in their last financial year. However, despite significant investments in network architecture, 73 percent of organisations surveyed reported that current network performance fails to deliver key business requirements for effective CCTV. Sixty percent of surveyed organizations reported plans to increase investments in CCTV surveillance systems and underlying network infrastructure in their next financial year. They also reported plans to increase investments in network infrastructure by an average of 8.7 percent in the year ahead to enable improved network security (59 percent), meet increasing customer demands and expectations for safety (43 percent) and deploy high performance surveillance infrastructure (41 percent). Twenty-four percent also
specified that Governance, Risk and Compliance concerns are a motivation for planned CCTV investments. The survey also reported clear concerns about the efficacy of network security, with 78 percent of respondents concerned about a possible breach of their CCTV surveillance network and 25 percent citing a breach in the last 12 months. While the organisations surveyed are planning to increase investments in network security by an average of 9.9 percent in the year ahead, 39 percent of respondents believe that their organisation should invest more in the next financial year. “The research commissioned by Juniper Networks outlines that while CCTV surveillance systems continue to be vitally important for organizations, they can only be as effective as the network that supports them,” says Marcus Jewell, senior VP and GM EMEA for Juniper Networks. “Not all networks are equal and organisations need to consider the nuances of their existing environment and business needs before investing in network architecture. Juniper believes that Self-Driving Networks are integral to helping organizations create the right foundation to enhance the performance and efficiency of mission-critical systems and associated applications, such as CCTV surveillance.”
recently released research that targeted more than 1,000 CIO’s across the UAE, Saudi Arabia and “other GCC countries”. This explored CIOs’ cloud security strategies around their applications, as well as their top cloud concerns. It revealed that almost 50 percent of CIOs have either a public, private or hybrid cloud within their network.
Fifteen percent used public cloud, 26 percent private cloud, and 7 percent hybrid cloud. It also showed that two thirds of CIOs rated cloud security as a “very important” issue they had to address, while a third were unsure how their cloud infrastructure was secured or how secure their cloud applications are. “The discussion around
cloud security is similar to that of Internet security in the early 2000s,” Abbas says. “Our research recommends that customers embrace a cloud security model, and the right technologies that address cloud infrastructure to help the development of their applications. They should focus on security automation to prevent human error.”
Updating our systems bi-annually in this way ensures that our customers receive the latest updates every sixth months, which is much preferred over our previous tactic of creating a major release every three years.”

New 6-core Intel processors, 2X the memory and 3X greater bandwidth result in a 50 per cent performance boost, with tested maximums up to 270,000 IOPS. SCv3000 arrays are customerinstallable, lowering start-up costs, but are also supported by a full range of ProSupport and ProDeploy services, including “Plus” versions – as well as the new Optimize advanced services option. XtremIO is the ideal platform for workloads that benefit from deduplication and integrated copy data management (iCDM) for large-scale snapshots, such as VDI and development/test use cases. With a powerful combination of new hardware and intelligently enhanced software, X2 offers up to 80% lower response times and 25% higher data reduction to support 2x more copies per cluster for iCDM.

Trriple mWallet app now available for download
Paolo Gagliardi, Trriple
Trriple, a UAE-based FinTech start-up, has announced that its mobile wallet application for smartphones is now available for download on the Google Play Store and the Apple App Store. According to the firm, the Trriple app allows users to transact with UAE entities such as telcos and other service providers, make user-to-user transfers, pay at merchants, maintain savings in their accounts, and also transfer their international remittances directly to family or to a bank account in their home countries. Paolo Gagliardi, Chief Executive Officer, Trriple, said, “Our clear objective with Trriple is to ensure that our users save time and effort, by conducting
the most time-consuming tasks easily through the Trriple mobile wallet app, which can be funded with cash or linked to a bank account. We will be consistently building up our partner ecosystem in the days to come, and also look forward to receiving feedback from our early users. We are delighted to use GITEX 2017 as a platform to announce Trriple availability, and we look forward to interacting with the regional and global technology community at the event.” Apart from linking a bank account or credit card, Trriple users can add funds directly to their accounts, making it a viable alternative to cash transactions for the unbanked and underbanked population in the UAE. This includes the scores
of blue collar workers who can deposit their wages into their Trriple accounts, and directly transact all their recurring monthly expenses such as international remittances, mobile credit top-up, and department store purchases. Other segments that will benefit from the mWallet app, according to the company, are the digitally-savvy youth and the ever-increasing smartphone user population, freeing them up to enjoy experiences and make purchases even in situations when they are not able to access cash immediately, or need to pay service provider bills urgently. The international remittance facility on the app frees up people from having to spend their free time at exchange houses to send

The mWallet is compliant to ISO-27001 standards, which is typically implemented by banks and larger financial institutions. With digital payments recognized as one of the pillars of the UAE Vision 2021, the availability of the Trriple mWallet will provide a secure way for users to conduct their transactions from the convenience of their smartphones. “Ultimately, we believe that Trriple is a solution that will increase happiness in the UAE, a stated focus area of the UAE and her leadership,” Gagliardi added.

of its products in Microsoft’s Azure or Amazon Web Services (AWS) marketplaces channel-friendly. Sophos also announced Sophos Server Protection is now available for Azure. When used with Sophos XG Firewall on Azure, Sophos Synchronized Security technology will coordinate defenses against cyber threats attacking multiple vectors, including Virtual Machines (VMs) running in Azure. “Partners in the Middle East & Africa see a big opportunity to help customers secure their public cloud deployments and they want to continue to receive the same benefits that they get through traditional sales models set up with their vendor partner programs. Sophos is paving the way for this to happen and created
a new program that delivers the same type of partner program benefits to partners selling Sophos solutions into public cloud deployments,” said Harish Chib, vice president, Middle East & Africa. “As customers in the Middle East & Africa region increasingly adopt cloud computing – either all-at-once or methodically over time – partners need a strategic business model that includes innovative security technology, reliable vendor training and support, and financial incentives. As a channelonly company, Sophos is committed to accelerating partner success and revenue growth with cloud security. This is a great opportunity for partners to become specialized as Sophos Cloud Security Providers and benefit from today’s growing billion
dollar cloud marketplace.” As Sophos Cloud Security Providers, partners will be able to build-up their technical expertise to better recommend how customers evolve to cloud deployments with the right security products. While Microsoft and Amazon manage security for their respective cloud infrastructures, businesses are expected to secure what they bring to cloud. By working with Sophos, partners can play an important advisory role on what customers need whether they are newly migrating, are all-in or have a hybrid scenario. Sophos will also work with partners to maximize Bring-Your-Own-License (BYOL) or Pay-As-You-Go (PAYG) purchasing and deployment options for their customers.

HH Sheikh Hamdan launches Future Live platform
Nikita Shvetsov, Kaspersky Lab
His Highness Sheikh Hamdan bin Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Crown Prince of Dubai and Chairman of the Dubai Executive Council, has launched the Smart Decision-Making Platform at Smart Dubai’s stand. The new platform relies on Dubai Pulse the platform that hosts all of the emirate’s data and forms the “backbone” of its shift towards smart development. Visitors can visualise the data through an “immersive room” that offers them a glimpse into the future of Dubai. Named ‘Future, Live’ the room allows visitors to visualise live,
citywide data, making Dubai the first city in the world to share its real-time live data with the public, along with projections of the progress that is in the pipeline for the coming decade. The interface was created using data mined from hundreds of thousands of data points around the city. It projects layers of information that provide visitors with insights into Dubai’s smart city transformation and the many technologies, projects and initiatives rolled out by Smart Dubai and its affiliate organisations and partners to build the city of the future.
Our display at GITEX Technology Week offers visitors a glimpse into the future. The live interactive platform feeds off Dubai Pulse’s treasure trove of city-wide data, offering scenarios with three realistic characters reflecting actual residents of Dubai.”
“Smart Dubai always puts people first in all of our initiatives,” said Her Excellency Dr Aisha Bint Butti Bin Bishr, Director-General of the Smart Dubai Office (SDO). “We have been working tirelessly to bring all of Dubai’s smart city services to life, and to use the extensive data that we have amassed to cater our offering to each citizen, resident and visitor in the emirate. Our display at GITEX Technology Week offers visitors a glimpse into the future. The live interactive platform feeds off Dubai Pulse’s treasure trove of city-wide data, offering scenarios with three realistic characters reflecting actual residents of Dubai.” The City Planner feature of the Immersive Room generates a real-time map, where visitors can view approximately 500,071 new developments across the city. The display also maps commercial areas, overlays them with electricity, water, utility and land usage data, as well as transportation data (such as metro usage over an average seven-day period) that helps identify potential infrastructure improvement hotspots. Visitors are tasked with choosing a new location for a metro station, using gesture control to switch between three pins that suggest the location for new metro stations based on power consumption, land development data and public transportation data.

Nokia and du demonstrate 5G future
Nokia and du are demonstrating how 5G will transform people’s lives with a showcase of 5G robot control and live streaming at GITEX Technology Week 2017 in Dubai. The live streaming uses the Nokia OZO+ virtual reality camera and OZO Live, a real-time 3D 360 stitching software that delivers live virtual reality broadcasting. The robot demonstrates how the ultra-low latency and high-reliability of 5G technology will usher in automation in industrial processes, promising substantial improvements in efficient production. With extreme reliability, ultra-low latency, and high speeds, 5G will be a key enabler of the ‘Fourth Industrial Revolution’ by opening up new possibilities for applications, such as automated responsive robots in industrial production. Nokia and du’s demonstration of a dual-arm collaborative robot (also known as ‘cobot’) - which is connected via 5G to an automated parts and material handling platform - shows visitors to GITEX how 5G’s near-zero latency can visibly transform industrial operations with fully flexible, automated production. Nokia and du are also showcasing at GITEX the capabilities of OZO+,
the first professional virtual reality camera from Nokia Technologies. Visitors will be able to experience the 3D 360-degree live streaming experience, both at GITEX and on videosharing websites with a virtual reality headset. Use of Nokia’s OZO+ virtual reality camera, along with OZO Live, present a unique experience of live streaming using eight cameras and microphones that come together to reproduce 360-degree video and spatial audio. Saleem AlBlooshi, Executive Vice President - Infrastructure & Technology, du, said: “The speed with which our networks are evolving is astounding, and it will only grow with the growing demand. In the UAE, for example, we are in the process of building a smart city - a networked society of individuals, corporations, government services and things - and 5G use cases that will drive the future solution. If there is one thing that is certain about 5G today, is that there will be no 5G big bang. 5G comprises of many components that will be evolved on our 5G journey. In our pursuit of this 5G journey, du is actively looking at the potential 5G use cases from now. Our demonstration of the dual-arm collaborative robot at GITEX is one of these futuristic use cases that show how the 5G’s near-zero latency can potentially transform industrial operations with fully flexible, automated production.”

This platform was also showcased at GITEX today, where representatives from both Avanza and Dubai Smart Government were at hand to demonstrate how the Dubai government has been evolving its financial processing ecosystem.
In addition, Avanza Solutions has been working in partnership with Avaya to develop the Happiness Index on Blockchain, the first solution to use blockchain to gauge customer sentiment. Built by utilising Avanza’s blockchain platform Cipher and Avaya’s analytics platform Oceana, the solution will enable organisations to better monitor and react to customer satisfaction in real time. “Innovation is part of Avanza’s DNA – we always look at how we can solve the problems our customers are facing today and deliver the solutions that answer the challenges of tomorrow. By working with Avaya, we are once again taking blockchain from being a conceptual technology into a business tool that addresses real-world issues,” said Waqas Mirza, Chief Marketing Officer & Managing Director, Avanza Solutions. Happiness Index on Blockchain showcases how companies and government organisations can leverage blockchain to securely collect and integrate data from multiple sources, such as different contact centers, emails, social media, web and chat platforms. By selectively filtering offline data, and monitoring real-time data sources, organisations can dynamically measure customer satisfaction levels and transform experiences to meet their satisfaction level objectives.

Oledcomm displays LiFi technologies During the show, the company is demonstrating its four of its latest LiFi innovations. “First is the lamp dedicated to healthcare environments, especially in areas where the WiFi is highly restricted.” Oledcomm, provider of communication technology – LiFi, is presenting its latest innovations at GITEX Technology Week. The company provides Li-Fienabled lightbulbs to transmit data at speeds as fast as 50 megabit per
second (Mbps), which according to Oledcomm, is about 10 times faster than current Wi-Fi technology. During the show, the company is demonstrating its four of its latest LiFi innovations. “First is the lamp dedicated to healthcare
environments, especially in areas where the WiFi is highly restricted,” said Benjamin Azoulay, CEO, Oledcomm. “This lamp is called HEPTA and it enables doctors, patients and visitors connect their devices without any risk to make
interference or emit radio waves.” The company is also highlighting its Panel LED light equipped with the LIFINET technology, a bidirectional solution for securing a fast and safe connection. “We are also showcasing a complete solution for retail industry including malls or any indoor areas as well as offices,” said Azoulay. “The light acts as a geo-fencing marker and when users are crossing their path they can receive a notification on their phone or on the Trolley terminal.” Lastly, Oledcomm is presenting its camera enabled solution that can help customers interact with a non-intrusive advertisement stands/kiosks equipped with LiFi technology. “The user, while using his or her smartphone, will be able to direct device’s camera to the screen while standing in front of it and collect vouchers, special offers or any other information.”
StarLink unveils SDDC technology architecture StarLink is participating at GITEX this year at Hall 1 Entrance (Stand D1-1) and is showcasing 12 participating vendors – Centrify, ForeScout, FireEye Infoblox, IXIA, LinkShadow, LogRhythm, Palo Alto Networks, Recorded Future, Symantec, Trend Micro and Tripwire. The software-defined data centre (SDDC) is now a key focus area for most organisations. The shift in the data centre paradigm is about reducing costs and providing service agility. To maximise data centre ROI, key security factors needs to be fundamentally considered including lateral movement of malware, network security virtualisation, orchestration, people and process. Simultaneously, with the surge in cyber threats including DDoS, against the cloud and IoT, as well as, ransomware leading to disruptions in IT and OT networks, plus mobile attacks and vulnerabilities on the rise, customers will be increasingly looking

at automation and machine learning. Therefore, StarLink’s theme for GITEX 2017 is “unify people, process and product by automating incident response with orchestration and machine learning.” A cross-section of StarLink’s key vendors are showcasing best-of-breed technologies that are embedded into the fabric of SDDC Security: automated network control, vulnerability management, secure network visibility, content
security, next-generation firewall, threat intelligence, Privileged Access Management, ATP, UEBA, SIEM and Unified Threat Management. Nidal Othman, managing director, StarLink, said, “At GITEX we bring together our partners, their customers and vendors each year for an opportunity to network with one another, as well as, meet with StarLink’s Management team. This year we unveil the newest addition to our Security Strategy,
the Software Defined Data centre (SDDC) Technology Architecture, that enables enterprises and government organizations across the region to detect, protect and respond to emerging datacenter threats”. He added, “Securing the Software Defined Data Centre is an extension to traditional security controls. While server virtualisation dramatically maximises the deployment of computing power, the Software Defined Data Centre does the same for all the resources needed to host an application, including storage, networking and security. StarLink has developed the SDDC Technology Architecture to extend core networking and security services deployed with enterpriseclass scale and manageability. The architecture caters to virtualised and private and public cloud environments, with a goal to increase protection for dynamic data centre environments.”
