WAITING FOR THE GOLD RUSH OF 2024...2025...2026
The Saudi Arabian construction industry has been experiencing a significant boom in recent years, driven by ambitious infrastructure projects, urban development, and economic diversification efforts. As the industry expands, so does the demand for more advanced construction equipment currently in the market as well as raw numbers when it comes to filling out inventories.
Take powered access equipment for example. Talking to people involved in the market, they estimate that there is roughly 6,000 units currently available.
At the moment, while projects like NEOM are in the early stages, that is not a problem. But if Saudi is to achieve and build at a pace anywhere close to its stated goals, then that number is probably going to have to double.
Saudi Arabia’s Vision 2030 initiative has set forth ambitious goals to diversify the country’s economy and develop its infrastructure. The construction of megacities, transport networks, energy facilities, and entertainment complexes present a plethora of opportunities for construction equipment manufacturers and suppliers.
But we are only at the hut and cabin stage of things currently and the year of 2030 is – sensibly – beginning to feel like a year of peak activity not a final deadline for construction on the raft of residential, tourist, industrial and flagship megadevelopments that are planned.
Small wonder then the equipment sector is frantically sending teams over to The Kingdom to pitch their wares to
contractors, authorities and developers with one eye on getting into the market now before the getting gets good.
I have met with many people from the manufacturing side of the industry to the rental houses over the past two months who have gone into great detail about the scale of their effort to put themselves in the Saudi shop window. And deals are being made that should put them in prime position for when the market hits its stride. The question vexing most people is: when?
Bloomberg reported earlier in the year that business activity in Saudi Arabia’s non-oil private sector was expanding at the fastest pace in almost eight years and should see growth of 5% this year. So in some ways the boom is already underway.
Most are now talking about the end of 2024 being the real starting point. Those of us that were around for the UAE boom in the naughties will know that means we are probably two to three years away from the start of the peak. There will be some of you that are also reluctant to get too carried away and have been burnt in Saudi before. And they may have a point. Let’s not throw ourselves headfirst into the Saudi gold rush. It’s time for cautious optimism.

MINING AND QUARRYING INFINITE MINING & ENERGY TO DEVELOP REFINERY IN SHARJAH’S HAMRIYA FREE ZONE AUTHORITY
An oil refinery with a daily production capacity of 10,000 barrels is to be set up in with Sharjah’s Hamriya Free Zone Authority (HFZA), following a new deal between Infinite Mining & Energy (IME) and the freezone.
Saud Salim Al Mazrouei, Director of the HFZA, and Bilal Merchant, Managing Director of Infinite Mining & Energy FZE signed the agreement at HFZA headquarters, in the presence of senior officials from both sides.
India-based IME said it will double its investment in the free zone and establish the plant with annual refining capability of up to 3.6m barrels, alongside a modern oil storage facility equipped with over 20 loading slots. As per the terms of the agreement, IME will lease a 200,000sqft plot of land in the free zone to build its facilities. This expansion is expected to significantly increase
the company’s storage capacity, catering to the growing demand for its services and products.
With an ideal business environment and a system of exceptional services and benefits, HFZA continues to stand as a prominent industrial base for international companies in the sector. This latest investment by IME further underscores HFZA’s
success in attracting key players in the oil and energy industries, a statement highlighted.
Al Mazrouei noted that IME’s new expansion plans demonstrates HFZA’s leading reputation as a preferred investment destination for heavy industries and the petrochemical sector.
“This also reinforces HFZA’s appeal and significance in the oil,
energy, and various other sectors, a testament to our commitment to the visions and directives of HH Dr Sheikh Sultan bin Mohammed Al Qasimi, Supreme Council Member and Ruler of Sharjah, which have transformed the free zone into a role model, showcasing a strong return on investment and an ideal environment for establishing key projects, thereby becoming a vital contributor to the national economy,” explained Al Mazrouei. He continued, “Infinite’s new facility will be a significant addition to the emirate’s burgeoning economic landscape through its production volume, which caters to the demand for energy products and derivatives for both existing and future industrial projects.”
He said the company’s choice of Hamriya Free Zone underscores the high global standards and the favourable investment climate HFZA offers.

THE BEST OF THE BEST GATHER FOR THE SECOND CONSTRUCTION MACHINERY MIDDLE EAST AWARDS
For three months Construction Machinery Middle East went out to the market and dared them to put forward what they consider to be the very best of the best of their vehicles in one of the biggest votes of its kind ever conducted in the market. And when we say the Best of the Best – we mean it.
This year’s winners and nominess list were the ones that they felt are at the pinnacle of their engineering prowess, their industry knowhow, the ones that drive theirs - and the all-important equipment sector’s - businesses.
Over 13,000 votes were received in total, explained head of content Stephen White “The total was far higher than we received for the inaugural event last event. That’s 13,000
different votes from the market of what they feels is THE best machine for their needs as we begin a new era in transportation and mobility in the region,” he said.
This year’s Construction Machinery Middle East Awards was also much more than a machinery showcase too. Distributors and Manufacturers alike were tested and rated by the voters in the search for the finest services and solutions in the market.
And most importantly and for the first time the Awards also honoured end-users from a huge array of sectors that are delivering world-class, safe and sustainable services to the region. Four special end-user awards were also handed to companies representing the construction, FM and rental community.
According to White, the team at CMME will continue to explore ways to expand the reach of the Awards to be as inclusive as possible.
“This year, we had some really strong nominations and winners from all over the region to represent the strength in depth of the market.” said White. “I feel adding the end-user categories adds credibility to the event but also aligns with our mission to bring as many people from across the equipment sector together as we possibly can. “And even more importantly, the atmosphere in the room was fantastic with the audience really doing their bit to make it a night of celebration.”
The evening was started by a speech delivered by global equipment brand JCB with Svetlana Petrova, regional director, international sales –CIS, Turkey, Middle East, Africa S&E, Asia-Pacific, JCB opening a night of celebration.
“A special thank you to Svetlana Petrova and our Platinum Sponsor JCB who helped get the night off to a great start with her welcoming speech. And, of course, congratulations to everyone.”

ACE ENERGY INFRASTRUCTURE CLAIMS RECORD AFTER EPIC
PIPELAYING MISSION ACROSS SUBANSIRI RIVER
Overseen by Indradhanush Gas Grid Limited (JV of IOCL, ONGC, GAIL, OIL and NRL) work has been underway on a project to open up the gas pipeline network in Assam, a north-east region of India. Once completed it will connects the gas pipeline from Assam to the rest of India.
Indradhanush has drafted in Ace Energy Infrastructure, a Mumbai-headquartered firm, to conduct the allimportant pipeline installation which is one of the most ambitious projects of its type in the region.
Established in 2007, Ace Energy Infrastructure has built a reputation for entrepreneurial leadership
and courage in adversity, steadily growing its ability to execute diverse projects across the nation. With te Oil and Gas industry providing the fuel for the growth of the India, the firm describes itself as taking pride in building the critical supply chains that “turn the wheels of the nation”.
MECON Limited, India served as the Project Management Consultant (PMC) as part of a project to extend the Pradhan Mantri Urja Ganga (National Natural Gas Grid) to the North Eastern states of India, a project envisioned by the Prime Minister of India and overseen by the ministry of Petroleum and Natural Gas Govt of India.
Ace Energy Infrastructure says its successful placing of a 3,600m pipeline of 24” diameter across the Subansiri River in Assam, India, is among the largest pipeline installations worldwide utilising
the intersect method of Horizontal Directional Drilling (HDD).
Describing the manoeuvre as a significant milestone the firm explained that the installation was executed for Indradhanush Gas Grid (IGGL) (a joint venture of oil and gas companies such as Indian Oil Corporation, Oil and Natural Gas Corporation GAIL (India) Limited, Oil India, and Numaligarh Refinery. Tarun Singh, director, Ace Energy Infrastructure added: “Our experience in executing challenging projects and our dedication to quality will always be critical in delivering a solution that meets the requirements. Together, we have proven that no challenge is insurmountable when we unite our expertise, passion, and determination.”
The first and most pressing challenge on the project was the extremely difficult site conditions.
FEATURE JULY 2023
Both banks of the river where the equipment was to be mobilised were at an extremely inaccessible location, in North Lakhimpur and Majuli Districts of Assam, with no access to motorable roads.
Both banks of the river where the equipment was to be mobilised were at an extremely inaccessible location with no access to motorable roads.
While access to the Majuli side was achieved by the construction of a temporary coffer dam across the Lohit River, which too was washed out due to flash floods in early April in premonsoon rains, access across the river itself was on a rudimentary ferry that could barely accommodate cars.
crucial factors in the successful execution of this highly challenging crossing.
Equipment such as tracking and guidance tools, a recycling unit, mud pumps, drill pipe, swivels, and various tooling apart from the HDD rigs with ample redundancy befitting such a major crossing were procured months in advance and had to be mobilised at the remote project site.
3,600
What made the task even more challenging was the narrow weather window when equipment could be mobilised, with the entire area being waterlogged between June and October.
To counter this, the works required several months of job planning with a well-planned approach playing is part as a key to success. Detailed planning of methods, equipment, and manpower several months in advance proved
On top of the technology being deployed, Ace Energy Infrastructure says that the operation had to lean into the hard work and determination of its team. Working tirelessly day and night over the past five months, the team continued on the job without a single break in effort.
The challenging nature of the job and conditions ensured that a great deal of perseverance was often required and setbacks were used as opportunities to learn and grow: From a flash flood washing out the only access to the site (the temporary coffer dam) to breakage in drill strings, the team faced adverse situations and continued towards their commitment to excellence.
Projects of this type typically require a flexible approach and feedback from people on the ground was used to improvise methods and keep the operation moving. During the course of the execution of the works, the best-made plans need to be re-looked at and re-engineered in light of the dynamics of the project site. Feedback from experienced personnel at the site proved invaluable. Their firsthand experiences and insights provide crucial guidance for continuous improvement.
Speaking about this achievement, Ravneet Singh, director, Ace Energy Infrastructure, commented: “This endeavour stands among the largest HDD crossings undertaken globally and is a good demonstration of the engineering talent and competencies that infrastructure companies in India are capable of. Our team of experts tackled several technical and logistical challenges with precision and dedication, resulting in the completion of this complex HDD crossing milestone.”
With the pipeline now installed, Indradhanush Gas Grid CEO Ajit Kumar Thakur, concluded that the project will aid the “country’s strategic vision of expanding access to cleaner energy use by setting up the natural gas infrastructure to the major demand centres in North East parts of the country.”

A NEW REPORT BY RESEARCH AND MARKETS HIGHLIGHTS THE GROWING DEMAND FOR AUTONOMOUS MACHINERY ON SITE
The autonomous construction equipment market consists of sales of excavators, backhoe loaders, bulldozers, and skidsteer loaders. Values in this market are ‘factory gate’ values, that is the value of goods sold by the manufacturers or creators of the goods, whether to other entities (including downstream manufacturers, wholesalers, distributors and retailers) or directly to end customers. The value of goods in this market includes related services sold by the creators of the goods.
The autonomous construction equipment market also refers to equipment includes sensors such as lidar and cameras in order to recognize humans and obstacles, and the system also uses geofencing to keep machinery within the construction sites. According to a new report by Research and Markets,
the global autonomous construction equipment market will grow from $11.86 billion in 2022 to $14.05 billion in 2023 at a compound annual growth rate (CAGR) of 18.5%. The Russia-Ukraine war disrupted the chances of global economic recovery from the COVID-19 pandemic, at least in the short term.
The war between these two countries has led to economic sanctions on multiple countries, surge in commodity prices, and supply chain disruptions, causing inflation across goods and services effecting many markets across the globe. The autonomous construction equipment market is expected to grow to $20.33 billion in 2027 at a CAGR of 9.7%.
The autonomous construction equipment market research report is one of a series of new reports that provides autonomous construction equipment market statistics, including autonomous construction equipment industry global market size, regional shares, competitors with an autonomous construction equipment market share, detailed autonomous construction equipment market segments, market
trends and opportunities. The countries covered in the autonomous construction equipment market are Australia, Brazil, China, France, Germany, India, Indonesia, Japan, Russia, South Korea, UK, and USA.
Asia-Pacific was the largest region in the autonomous construction equipment market in 2022. North America was the second-largest region in the autonomous construction equipment market. road construction, building construction, and other application. Most construction companies are facing heavy equipment operator shortages throughout the world. Manufacturers are more focused on technology such as robotics and automation primarily to combat labor shortages along with finishing up their tasks faster, reducing wastage, and providing high yields with improved quality.
Experts believed that one of the best solutions to combat labor shortages is to automate construction equipment, especially in remote areas, for repetitive tasks and in locations with significant labor shortages. Therefore, a shortage in labor or skilled workforce is driving the Autonomous equipment market.
Safety and cyber security issues have always been a major challenge in the autonomous construction equipment market. To automate construction equipment, regardless of the control system used, cybersecurity always remains a key concern as it is challenging to control the potential damage that could be caused by the hacking of heavy equipment. It presents remote access for hackers to exploit system vulnerabilities of communication systems between vehicles and infrastructure. Threats associated with the protection and safety of personal information are always being a major concern, limiting the growth of the Autonomous construction equipment market. Making existing equipment autonomous is a growing trend in the autonomous construction equipment market. Companies are interested in automation but the implementation cost for deployment of technology is high. Therefore, construction companies are planning to rent autonomous machines to stay competitive by using new technology without the potential barriers of high investments.
Major players in the autonomous construction equipment market are Komatsu Ltd, Caterpillar Inc, Hitachi Construction Machinery Co, Ltd, Volvo Construction Equipment, Built Robotics, Inc, Cyngn, Royal Truck & Equipment, Case Construction Equipment, and Deere and Company.
According to Thomas Harring, president, Hexagon’s Geosystems division, construction is on the precipice of its next great era of Innovation, fueled by the demands of a rapidly growing population and the need to care for our planet.
“Add to this the troubling market conditions caused by widespread inflation, supply chain disruptions and a tense and unstable geopolitical climate, and construction leaders are increasingly challenged to meet owners’ expectations to deliver on time and on budget.”
With so much at stake, leaders within the construction space are turning to autonomous solutions to assess risks and improve the effectiveness of operations — keys to overcoming business challenges in the areas of productivity, sustainability and profitability, he adds.
“Every day, millions of assets are produced on each jobsite. Often, these assets are disconnected, inaccurate or incomplete. The vast volume of data created far exceeds people’s ability to collect it and make sense of it.
“The pace of change on a job means the data we do have is often outdated by the time we need it. The limits of time, space and our own cognitive ability are where we fall short. Luckily for us, autonomy can transcend these barriers that have held us back,” he says.
“Autonomy is not about taking jobs. It’s about making the data we have, and are yet to generate, the greatest tools in our toolbox. The insights unlocked from autonomy will make our jobsites safer, more efficient and less wasteful than ever before, making it possible to build a world where both people and industry sustainably thrive.”
Just like the reverberating effects from the industry’s transition from manual to power tools, or paper to digitisation, the widespread adoption of autonomous technology is a transformation that will define the next era of construction.
But change is not easy.
To get our finger on the pulse of the industry, we surveyed over 1,000 technology leaders from general contracting firms of all sizes to learn where the industry is in its adoption, perception of and benefits realised from autonomous and automated technology.
“And although we found that the industry is becoming more comfortable with autonomy — and the majority of firms have adopted autonomous technology at some level — the construction industry needs to champion and accelerate wide-spread adoption and optimisation throughout our businesses for lasting and scalable impact.”

NEW DX140LC7K CRAWLER EXCAVATOR LAUNCHED BY DEVELON
WHY GET IT?
THE MACHINE FEATURES FLATTENED ENGINE COVER DESIGN TO REDUCE THE MAXIMUM HEIGHT OF COVER COMPONENTS ON THE MACHINE.
Develon, formerly Doosan Construction Equipment, has launched the new DX140LC-7K 14.6 tonne crawler excavator, replacing the company’s successful DX140LC-7 model. Whilst the performance and working range are the same as the DX140LC-7, the new machine incorporates many improvements that enhance safety and convenience both for the operator and for working on site, together with a better operator experience, particularly from a maintenance point of view.
The main improvements on the new DX140LC-7K model include: Better maintenance access; safer access to the upper structure; better rear visibility; better right-side visibility; and new dashboard with tablet design, offering faster response.
The upgraded serviceability of the DX140LC-7K includes better access to the DEF tank and the fuel refilling hose. This is combined with a much easier approach for the operator to the engine compartment via new anti-slip steps and handrails positioned behind the cab. The anti-slip steps are protected and secured by a new door on the side of the excavator. The machine also has a new flattened engine cover design that has reduced the maximum height of cover components on the back of the machine.
KOHLERPOWERED WILLE 675∆
WHY GET IT?
UP TO 15 PERCENT HIGHER PRODUCTIVITY THAN OTHER ENGINES IN THE SAME CLASS WITH THE SAME LEVEL OF EMISSIONS
The Finnish company Wille Machines produces the most popular machines on the market for environmental management and maintenance of urban areas. Designed to operate in all four seasons, especially in winter when maintenance operations are more demanding and expensive, Finnish Wille needs engines that provide great power but that also respect the environment in which they operate. This dual need is reflected in the choice of a Kohler engine for the Wille 675 , a low, agile, multifunctional wheel loader that can work smoothly even in narrow places. The Kohler 3404 Stage V engine is the most compact in its class, with a layout that facilitates installation. In addition, with a particulate filter and SCR catalytic converter that meets the latest
650NM
emission standards, this engine makes the Wille 675 more environmentally friendly. Kohler allows the use of HVO100, which is less polluting and renewable, as fuel. Unlike conventional biofuels, HVO is a renewable fuel derived from biological waste and 100% recycled. The use of HVO results in a reduction in overall CO2 emissions of up to 90 percent, and due to the very low sulphur content, engine exhaust emissions also benefit. Equipped with one of the most powerful operating hydraulic systems on the market, with two hydraulic circuits and a variable displacement pump with load sensing, this machine has a wide range of working attachments available. To meet the demands of the machine, even under the most extreme conditions such as a snow blower, the Kohler diesel engine provides 105 kW @ 2200 rpm and delivers an impressive 650 Nm @ 1400 rpm of torque. The KDI 3404 has the highest torque and power ratings in its class, delivering the same performance as larger displacement engines. High torque at low rpm enables maximum productivity and provides immediate response in all operating modes. The result is up to 15 percent higher productivity than other engines in the same class with the same level of emissions.

MOVE MORE FOR LESS WITH NEW VOLVO R60 RIGID HAULER
WHY GET IT?
THE E-GENERATION VOLVO R60 RIGID HAULER FEATURES A HIGHER PAYLOAD THAN THE D-GENERATION MODEL
Built for markets with tier 2-compliant engines and based on the R100E model, the all-new E-generation Volvo R60 Rigid packs a higher payload than the D-generation model it replaces, along with a durable design and new comfort and safety-enhancing features – enabling it to move more for less with every cycle.
Drew Watson, Global Product Manager for the Volvo R60 at Volvo CE, says: “The Volvo R60 offers a 55-tonne payload and body volume of 36m3, enabled by a V-shaped body ensuring optimum load retention and minimal material carry-back.
“The rigid hauler is a perfect match for a 90-tonne excavator and meets the industry standard of 10/10/20 where it can take 10% overload for 10% of the time but should not exceed 20%. To help operators haul the optimum amount of material, an optional On-Board Weighing system provides real-time payload insight to the hauler operator via the on-board display, and can predict the 10/10/20 payload.”
Contributing to speedy cycle times, the drivetrain combines high torque
capability and high drive axle multiplication to deliver the traction force needed to take on the steepest site gradients. Not only is it productive, but the Volvo R60 is also fuel efficient. Thanks to Volvo Dynamic Shift Control, gear selection is automatic to adapt to varying conditions, whilst ECO mode enables the hauler to default to the most efficient gear shifting schedule. In addition, auto engine-idle shut-down eliminates unnecessary fuel consumption and engine wear.
The rigid hauler is available with CareTrack telematics system to enable remote machine monitoring and help boost efficiency even further. Customers can gain recommendations on the optimum fleet configuration and site set-up from their Volvo dealer. Designed to deliver high uptime and low operating costs, the R60 is built to last with a 60,000-hour life frame and a list of features that contribute to longlasting performance and component life.
Operators can enter the cab from both sides using anti-slip steps and walkways. The cab is now pressurized, Roll/Fall-Over Protective Structure-certified (ROPS/FOPS) and features a left-positioned operator station to aid safe passing. Volvo Smart View is an added option to improve visibility even further with a 360° birds-eye view of
the work zone. Ergonomically positioned displays, responsive fingertip controls and low-effort steering combine to make operation effortless. The adjustable airsuspended seat and a Bluetooth-enabled audio system add to operator comfort.
The Volvo R60 is equipped with two retardation systems to keep a steady speed and facilitate machine navigation when going downhill, reducing the need for operator input. When manually selected, the transmission retarder slows the drivetrain to limit wheel lock-up, particularly useful on steep declines or in wet conditions. The modulating braking retarder can be automatically activated when the operator’s foot is off the accelerator to maintain a gear selected constant engine speed. What’s more, fail-safe braking and secondary steering systems add to jobsite safety.

LINED-UP AND READY
EURO AUCTIONS - PROBABLY THE LARGEST PRIVATELY OWNED AUCTION HOUSE IN THE WORLD, IS NOW IN ABU DHABI
Since the first sale in Dubai in 2017, Euro Auctions has been attracting consignors and buyers from across the region to their used machinery sales, which is gaining the attention of the industry right across the Middle East. Now with the new site in KEZAD, Abu Dhabi, the business is now firmly set on being the biggest auction site in the region
Once the place where worn out kit was sent at the end of its life, the plant and machinery auction is now the place to buy good, fresh, late and often unused equipment. Whilst Euro Auctions attracts good machinery, which the market seeks, there is always room for more.
For rental companies trying to rationalise their stockholding, for contractors refreshing their fleets, for businesses needing a cash injection or operators retiring form the industry, Euro Auctions can and
will turn your iron into cash, which in turn, creates good stock for all sales. So, register your machines in this next sale and put your plant and machinery in the capable hands of one of the biggest specialist auction houses in the world.
Whilst Euro Auctions is now firmly established in the UAE with the opening of the new Abu Dhabi site, who are Euro Auctions? What is the history of the business?
“Whilst Euro Auctions is seen as a Middle East based business, the company is a global leader, and probably the largest privately owned auction house in the world,” Richard Sweatt, Euro Auctions Territory Manager for the Middle East. “The company was founded in Northern Ireland over 20 years ago and the new sale site in Abu Dhabi is part of an amazing business network which is successful, financially secure and is developing across continents.”
Still a family business, run by the ‘Keys’ brothers, who hail from Northern Ireland, Euro Auctions is Europe’s number one and has an enviable global reputation. With sites in the Middle East, Northern
Ireland, England, Spain, Germany, Australia, and with three sale sites in the USA, trading as the Yoder & Frey brand, this gives the business global reach in terms of consigning machinery and equipment as well as offering kit from all sales to a truly international audience.
The global market is affected by what is happening in Europe and the USA, and because used machinery is a global commodity and transportation is affordable, plant and machinery washes around the planet to where it is needed next, and this dictates price. The USA, whilst being the biggest market, is fairly insular and perhaps not a true barometer to global demands. However, Europe based sales can trade easily across continents, to Africa, Asia, the Middle East and the Far East with ease and as such are accessible to a larger buyer base.
To understand the Global market, we look to Europe for intelligence, which acts like a window to the world of plant and machinery trading. Reporting from the Euro Auctions flagship site in the UK, a truly international auction, where bidders from over

100 countries register to buy at each sale. The top buying countries are consistently the UK, Republic of Ireland, Belgium, The Netherlands, Poland, Spain, and Romania. Buyers from North America are still evident at all sales as buying in the UK represents good value and they are taking multiple machines off the ramp with a single bid. Bidding well at this sale are buyers from the Middle East, Africa, the Caribbean, Asia and South America.
Continuing to prove they are Europe’s leading house, Euro Auctions recently conducted four UK sales, in 7 weeks, with two auctions at the flags-ship site in England, one in Dromore, Northern Ireland, with an off-site sale for retiring rental company in the Hampshire countryside. In all, over 17,000 pieces of heavy plant and construction machinery went under the hammer with a sale total of $253 million, with an inventory that included over 2,500 excavators.
This extraordinarily busy series of sales over seven weeks culminated in a single sale at the Euro Auctions flagship sale site in April 2023 where 692 vendors from 26 countries consigned 6,743 lots to this single auction, which achieved a staggering hammer total of $113+ million. Floor bidders on the day contributed $32 million to the sale with $81 million online showing the preference to online bidding from a global audience.
In Europe OEMs are now supplying new machines following depressed production capabilities thought Covid. Main dealers are now disposing of used machines in a swop for new and as a result, Euro Auctions are attracting good inventory at all auctions of fresh, late machines. At the April 2023 sale, the volume of excavators, dozers, crushers & screeners, dump trucks, loaders, telehandlers, and back hoes, that were 2018 to 2023 plate machines, represented 24% of all machines that went over the ramp. That is the calibre of the equipment for sale and why consignors sell with Euro Auctions.
Machines for export sell well at all European sales with a lot of the older equipment, around 10 years plus, holding strong values. Equipment of this age is typically going to Spain or Portugal, North Africa, Eastern Europe, and Turkey, who are rebuilding after the earthquake, as well as the Ukraine, where generators and excavators are in high demand due to the war with Russia.
The Dutch, who are some of the largest and most prolific dealers of plant and heavy machinery in Europe, are bidding hard and buying kit for resale elsewhere in Europe as well as export to other continents. The feedback from Dutch buyers is that good machinery is becoming harder to buy in central Europe and with Euro Auctions offering such choice and breadth of make, model, year and price, Euro Auctions Leeds is the place to shop. At the most recent April sale, Dutch buyers bought $8.3 million worth of kit. Other continuing trends include buyers in Romania supplying to the Ukraine, with Italy feeding machines into Turkey.
Marketing to vendors and buyers in over 200 countries, at each sale, Euro Auctions attracts a
serious global audience. All Euro Auctions sales are available to view, and participate in, online, in real time, as such attract a serious audience that have intent to purchase. Using the Euro Auctions online bidding platform buying from any auction is a straightforward easy process. Operating unreserved public auctions, meaning all lots are sold on the day to the highest bidder, there are no minimum bids, no reserve prices and no buy backs.
To purchase equipment from Euro Auctions, buyers need only to sign up for a free account and start to save equipment searches, add items to a watchlist, obtain a bidding number, and then leave pre-bids.
Richard Sweatt, Euro Auctions Sales Manager in the UAE sums up: “Buyers from across the Middle East can also buy at the Leeds sale in the UK or any of the other auction sites, with help from the team who now offer ‘live inspections’ for all onsite lots. If you want to buy, but need that extra assurance before you bid, an inspector will carry out a LIVE comprehensive inspection on your behalf, then you decide what to inspect through live voice and video link up. If you are happy, you can bid, and hopefully buy at Europe’s biggest plant and heavy machinery auction. With that brief insight into the brand, this is why Euro Auctions are world class!”

VOLVO CONSTRUCTION EQUIPMENT REVEALS ELECTRIC CHARGING PROTOCOL TO ACCELERATE TRANSFORMATION
THE FIRST PROTOCOL
There is currently no industry standard for 48V DC (direct current) charging solutions – the power required for electric compact machines – which means customers currently likely need to source multiple different chargers if they have a multi-branded fleet.
Volvo CE has therefore opted to publish its own brand-agnostic software protocol, as well as plug specifications, used on its 48V off-board DC chargers – with DC charging often commonly referred to as fast charging.
contribute to a standardized, reliable and efficient electric ecosystem that makes it easy for our customers to go electric! Today, lacking a standard brand-agnostic charging interface for compact machines, our customers will need different chargers for different machine brands.”
By making our charging interface public, we hope that we will see more and more charging solution providers and other machine OEMs using one and the same charging protocol – moving us a step closer to an industry standard for the benefit of customers everywhere.”
This enables other OEMs and suppliers to use it in the development of their own charging solutions for compact machines. With this move, Volvo CE aims to facilitate and accelerate the electromobility transformation by helping the wider industry create more charging solutions – based on a common protocol – for the benefit of customers transitioning to emission-free solutions.
A 48V power supply is designed for the smallest range of compact construction machines. For Volvo CE, this currently applies to the ECR18
Electric, EC18 Electric and ECR25

Electric compact excavators, the L20 Electric and L25 Electric compact wheel loaders and the DD25 Electric asphalt compactor. For heavier equipment, the use of a 600V power supply is required. There is already an industry standard protocol for this voltage that has been designed by the automotive industry.
