LET’S TAKE AN ISSUE TO CELEBRATE LOCAL MANUFACTURING

As trade event season unfolds across the Middle East, it offers an ideal platform to celebrate the remarkable achievements of automotive and commercial vehicle manufacturers, the aftermarket, and vehicle assembly sectors. This season is more than a calendar of expos and conferences — it is a testament to the region’s dynamic transformation and relentless pursuit of new ways to bring new technology into the market.

In an industry that is at the heart of commerce and infrastructure, the automotive and commercial vehicle segments have emerged as key drivers of economic progress.

From heavy-duty trucks supporting largescale construction projects to commercial fleets powering regional logistics, the critical role these sectors play cannot be overstated.

The trade events we see organised in the region serve as an opportunity for the local industry to showcase cuttingedge advancements in vehicle and fleet technology, sustainability, and efficiency.

This issue, through our looks at Arabian Axles, Gorica, NAZ and Juffali Commercial Vehicles in Saudi Arabia the magazine puts the spotlight on how manufacturers and their fleet operator customers are adapting to the future, driven by technological innovations such as electric mobility, autonomous vehicles, and digital connectivity.

These advancements not only improve performance but also address sustainability

goals, responding to the urgent global need for greener and more efficient vehicles. In line with regional governments’ visions for sustainability, such as the UAE’s Green Agenda and the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia’s Vision 2030, companies are increasingly adopting electric, hybrid, and alternative fuel technologies, positioning the Middle East region as a forwardthinking hub for the future of transportation.

In the aftermarket, parts suppliers and service providers are stepping up their game, offering smarter, quicker, and more reliable solutions to keep vehicles on the road longer and running more efficiently.

This ecosystem is the backbone of fleet management, ensuring optimal uptime and reducing overall operational costs. The relentless commitment of this sector to innovation and excellence is vital for the region’s booming fleet industry.

As we celebrate the vibrancy of the trade event season, let’s also honor the hardworking manufacturers, suppliers, and innovators whose dedication to progress is shaping the future of transportation.

Whether it is GITEX, Automechanika Dubai, The Big-5 and our own HEAT Show in Saudi Arabia.

The team at T&FME look forward to seeing how these advancements will continue to accelerate the Middle East region’s journey toward smarter, cleaner, and more efficient vehicle solutions.

NEW TRUCK REST STOPS COMPLETED BY RTA

FLEET

Dubai’s Roads and Transport Authority (RTA) has completed the construction of 10 Truck Rest Stops, in co-operation with the Abu Dhabi National Oil Company (ADNOC). These are part of an initiative to create a series of 16 rest stops in key strategic locations.

The rest stop facilities are distributed across six key locations, including Sheikh Mohammed bin Zayed Road; Emirates Road, Dubai; Hatta Road, Dubai; Al Ain Road; Lehbab Road, Dubai; and Al Awir Road, all of which attract high volumes of daily truck traffic.

The rest stops cover a total area of over 75,000 sq. m., with an operational capacity exceeding 5,000 trucks and heavy vehicles and 700 parking lots. Each rest area spans 5,000 to 10,000 sq. m., and the facilities include service amenities,

prayer rooms, diesel refuelling stations, and driver rest rooms.

Mattar Al Tayer, the DirectorGeneral and Chairman of RTA Board, said: “Constructing truck rest stops enhances traffic safety by reducing truck-related incidents by 50%. These facilities improve traffic flow during truck ban periods, promote traffic awareness among truck drivers, and eliminate the parking of trucks on main roads and in residential areas.

Emirates Transport (ET) says that 18,000 of its bus drivers and supervisors have successfully completed an extensive safety training programme in preparation for the new academic year.

The comprehensive training, which focused on the day-today duties and responsibilities of drivers and bus supervisors,

included a variety of practical sessions designed to equip them with the skills needed to handle any situations that may arise. Key areas of training included managing technical issues, conducting thorough bus inspections before each trip, safe driving in all weather conditions, and prioritising student welfare. The programme also covered essential

traffic bans on specific highways and to accommodate the increasing need for truck parking. This need arises from the high volume of truck trips in Dubai, which exceeds 300,000 daily trips, carrying approximately 1.5 million tonnes of goods daily.”

Selection of the rest stops’ locations has been carefully planned and involves adhering to international standards as well as adhering to technical research studies, in order to maxmise support for the land transport sector.

FLYING BOATS HEADING FOR NEOM’S TRANSPORT

TRANSPORTATION

A fleet of cutting-edge electric hydrofoil ships will soon be cruising the Red Sea, thanks to a landmark agreement between Swedish company Candela and Saudi Arabia’s NEOM project.

The Candela P-12, the world’s first electric hydrofoil ship, will play a pivotal role in this vision by providing a zero-emission, high-speed alternative to traditional water commuting.

Launched last year, the Candela P-12 is set to debut in Stockholm’s public transport later this year. This state-of-the-art vessel flies above the water on computer-guided hydrofoils, reducing energy consumption by 80% compared to traditional ships. With a speed of 25 knots and an endurance of over two hours, the P-12 is currently the fastest and longest-range electric passenger ship in existence.

GEELY’S EV: TESTING IN UAE WAS ‘ESSENTIAL’

ELECTRIC VEHICLES

Riddara, the electric pickup brand from Geely Holding Group, has successfully completed its high-temperature testing phase in the UAE, with the firm telling the market that it was essential ahead of launch. With the completion of these tests, Riddara is moving closer to its entry into the Middle Eastern market, where it aims to offer consumers electric vehicles that combine

advanced technology with reliable performance. The tests, conducted under the extreme heat conditions of the region, mark a crucial step in the brand’s global expansion strategy.

Since its introduction in China in 2022, Riddara has rapidly gained prominence in the electric pickup market. The brand has been expanding its reach into new territories, including Southeast Asia and

Latin America. The UAE testing phase is part of Riddara’s efforts to ensure its vehicles are well-suited to the challenging climates of the Middle East.

The rigorous hot-weather tests are aimed at verifying the performance and reliability of Riddara’s electric pickups under the intense heat conditions typical of the UAE. This testing is important as the brand prepares for its official launch in the region later this year.

The hydrofoil technology not only enhances energy efficiency but also significantly improves passenger comfort. The P-12’s digital flight control system stabilises the ship by adjusting the hydrofoils’ angle 100 times per second, ensuring a smooth ride even in challenging sea conditions.

Environmental sustainability is at the core of the P-12’s design. A life cycle analysis conducted by the KTH Royal Institute of Technology in Stockholm found that the P-12 will emit 97.5% less CO2 over its lifetime compared to a conventional diesel vessel of the same size.

NISSAN PATROL

The legacy of the Nissan Patrol in the UAE lives on as the Emirates host the launch of a new era

In the world of SUVs, few names evoke the kind of respect and admiration that the Nissan Patrol does in the UAE. For over seven decades, the Patrol has become more than just a vehicle; it has become a symbol of resilience, power, and prestige in the Middle East. Revered for its ability to navigate both the harsh desert dunes and bustling urban streets with equal ease, the Patrol has cemented its legacy in a region known for its affinity for luxury vehicles that perform well in challenging conditions.

The UAE has been at the heart of this legacy, where the Patrol is not merely a car but a trusted companion for Emirati families, adventurers, and urban dwellers alike. The deep connection between the vehicle and the region made the UAE the perfect stage for the world premiere of the newest generation of the Nissan Patrol. In an extraordinary event held in Abu Dhabi, Nissan proudly unveiled the

seventh-generation model, paying homage to the Patrol’s rich heritage while ushering in a new era of performance, luxury, and innovation.

Nissan chose Abu Dhabi to showcase the global debut of the all-new Patrol under the theme “Nissan Patrol Middle East Odyssey.”

The event was a spectacular celebration of the vehicle’s unmatched legacy in the region. Over 600 distinguished guests, including royals, VIPs, global executives, and media, gathered to witness the momentous occasion, which was also broadcast live to millions around the world.

Emerging from the iconic desert sands, the seventh-generation Patrol made a grand entrance, symbolising its ongoing connection to the rugged landscapes that have shaped its reputation. The evening was not only a celebration of the new model but also a tribute to the Patrol’s legacy as an off-road powerhouse. With presentations from key Nissan figures, including President and CEO Makoto Uchida, Senior Vice President of Global

Design Alfonso Albaisa, and Chief Planning Officer Ivan Espinosa, the launch emphasized the Patrol’s design evolution, engineering advancements, and future innovations.

The immersive event skillfully blended Middle Eastern and Japanese traditions, featuring an emotive recital by an Emirati poet, a performance by the renowned Japanese dance group Fabulous Sisters, and a visually stunning light display. The night’s 3D mapping presentation vividly intertwined the desert landscape with the Patrol’s adventurous spirit, providing a captivating experience for all in attendance.

A Vehicle for the Region

Makoto Uchida’s words underscored why the UAE was the ideal venue for the global premiere. He noted, “The Patrol represents the longest uninterrupted product line in Nissan’s history. Through decades of dedication and innovation, it has upheld its off-road legacy

while embracing modern refinement. The Middle East has always been deeply connected to the Patrol, making it the perfect location for the global debut of this new generation.”

The relationship between the Patrol and the Middle East is not just about sales figures; it’s about shared values of endurance, power, and adaptability. Over the past several decades, the Nissan Patrol has been a go-to vehicle for Emirati drivers, consistently ranking as the top SUV in the UAE. In fact, in 2024 alone, nearly 80% of Patrol buyers at Al Masaood Automobiles were Emiratis.

The seventh-generation Nissan Patrol brings a range of powerful enhancements to continue its reign as “The Hero of All Terrains.” With two engine options – a 3.5-liter twin-turbo V6 producing 425 horsepower and 700Nm of torque, and a naturally aspirated 3.8-liter V6 with 316 horsepower – the new Patrol delivers superior performance, whether navigating the vast desert or cruising through city streets. Both engines are paired with a 9-speed automatic transmission that promises enhanced fuel efficiency alongside impressive power.

This marks a momentous shift from the Patrol’s outgoing V8 engine – achieving a 7% increase in power and a 25% boost in torque, all while enhancing fuel efficiency by 24%. There is also a 3.8-liter naturally aspirated V6 engine option, producing 316HP and 386Nm of torque.

to maximise power output, and mirror bore coating to enhance thermal efficiency. The high heat-resistant turbocharger maintains peak performance under demanding conditions, while the scavenger oil pump ensures consistent lubrication on slopes and inclines, delivering reliable performance across all terrains.

The integration of a new 9-speed automatic transmission further elevates the driving experience, whether navigating city streets or conquering rugged terrains. The advanced transmission, paired with steering wheelmounted paddle shifters, ensures seamless acceleration and effortless gear changes for a consistently smooth and responsive journey. The new suspension also sees the adoption of e-damper technology that automatically adjusts the damper settings according to the driving conditions for a more controlled and comfortable on-board experience. A new adaptive air suspension system available as standard – allows for adjustable ride height, effortless on-road cruising and off-road performance. In addition to improved aerodynamic efficiency, it also facilitates easy passenger entry and exit, as well as convenient loading and unloading of gear. Drivers can tailor their drive to perfection with a selection of six distinct drive modes to choose from – standard, sand, rock, mud, eco and sport. A 4WD transfer mode interlock system, a first for Nissan, offers intuitive handling across various terrains, allowing drivers to seamlessly switch between modes and tackle challenging landscapes with ease. Underlying

all these features is a range of advanced chassis systems and electronic aids, including Vehicle Dynamic Control, Traction Control and Tire Pressure Monitoring System, to optimize a timely and safe response to any road condition.

The All-New Nissan Patrol also introduces NissanConnect 2.0, a next-generation advanced technology suite that seamlessly integrates navigation, security, and entertainment into a unified platform. Available in the UAE and KSA and soon to roll out across other GCC markets, this is the first Nissan vehicle in the region with Google built-in, which makes a near-seamless interaction between a customer’s digital life and their vehicle. It is available with Google Maps and, once signed-in with a personal Google Account, drivers can access their favourite locations and points of interest, reducing dependence on a mobile phone. User experience is enhanced by real-time navigation and traffic updates, secure vehicle access, and a range of entertainment options, all accessible through a sophisticated interface. Google Assistant allows the driver to use their voice for hands-free help on the go. For example, drivers can say “Hey Google” to control their media, adjust temperature settings, find new destinations and more with minimal distraction.

The Patrol transforms safety and situational awareness with Panorama View, featuring ‘Ultra-Wide View’ and ‘Invisible Hood View’, with Invisible-to-Visible technology projecting real-time images of obstacles and navigation cues on the horizontal monolith screen. The Ultra-Wide View expands the field of vision to 170 degrees and facilitates navigation in situations where visibility is restricted, while the innovative Invisible Hood provides a clear view of the area directly beneath the vehicle for safer driving both off-road and in narrow spaces.

The Patrol is also equipped with a 3D Around View Monitor which offers a comprehensive 360-degree view of the vehicle’s surroundings, further enhancing safety and making navigation through tight spaces safer and more intuitive. Additional safety features include the Smart Rear View Mirror and Rear Zoom View that enhance rear visibility, as well as Automatic Emergency Braking with Pedestrian Detection, Predictive Forward Collision Warning and Rear Automatic Emergency Braking, which alert drivers to potential collisions and apply brakes when needed to mitigate impact.

The new body structure, constructed with increased use of high-strength steel, improves frontal crash and pedestrian protection, ensuring enhanced safety for occupants and pedestrians alike. All-round safety is also assured with a comprehensive

safety package featuring seven airbags and, for the very first time, knee airbags specifically designed to enhance the driver’s safety.

Practical enhancements include the updated power lift gate, which features hands-free opening, anti-pinch technology, and angle memory for added convenience.

The All-New Patrol also offers USB Type-C ports in every row as well as a wireless phone charger pad in the front center console for efficient device charging.

well as outstanding and easy to use tech,” said Ivan Espinosa, Chief Planning Officer, Nissan Motor. “The all-new Patrol is a technical tour de force combined with craftmanship, precision and practicality. It will transport families and friends in effortless comfort across the most demanding dunes, challenging mountains or busy urban jungle. Drivers and passengers will relish the ride – regardless of the destination.”

Thierry Sabbagh, Divisional VP for Nissan in the Middle East, emphasised the importance of the region to Nissan’s global strategy, saying, “The Patrol’s status as a symbol of power and prestige in the Middle East for 70 years speaks to the deep connection between the vehicle and its drivers.”

A Bright Future Ahead

For Irfan Tansel, CEO of Al Masaood Automobiles, the introduction of the new Patrol is the continuation of a longstanding legacy. He reflected on the vehicle’s prominent role in the UAE, stating, “The Nissan Patrol isn’t merely an SUV; it’s a reflection of our city’s spirit and the adventurous hearts of its people.” He added, “The introduction of the All-New Nissan Patrol 2025 is sure to escalate this legacy...setting new standards for what vehicles can provide their drivers and passengers.”

UNITERRUPTED PRODUCTION

According to Makoto Uchida: “The Patrol represents the longest uninterrupted product line in Nissan’s history. Through decades of dedication and innovation, it has upheld its off-road legacy while embracing modern refinement.”

As Nissan gears up to release five new SUVs in the region, the latest Patrol is more than just a new model; it is a reaffirmation of the brand’s commitment to the Middle East, where the Patrol has earned its place as a beloved icon of rugged durability and luxurious comfort. With its advanced technology, exceptional performance, and deep-rooted heritage, the new Nissan Patrol is poised to continue its reign in the UAE and beyond.

“It’s pertinent to reflect on the enduring legacy that this iconic model has cultivated over the decades, particularly here in Abu Dhabi. The Nissan Patrol isn’t merely an SUV; it’s a reflection of our city’s spirit and the adventurous hearts of its people.

“Dubbed “The Hero of all Terrains”, the Nissan Patrol has proven to be a reliable companion - from the vast sandy desert to the bustling city streets, and an icon defined by strength and resilience.

“Since its introduction to our roads, the Nissan Patrol has become synonymous with the cultural and environmental foundation of the UAE. T&FME

sits down with Gorica

and finds out that the trailer company is on the move as the market transforms

Sometimes it counts to be in the right place, at the right time. As markets in the Middle East shift from predominantly constructionand oil-driven economies to a diversified, service-oriented model, trailer companies like Gorica Group are finding themselves at the forefront of this transformation.

Gorica, a major player in the trailer and commercial vehicle manufacturing market, has always successfully navigated the changes in the regional economy by embracing innovation, technological advancements, and sustainability. In this in-depth interview with Domen Bocker, General Manager of

Marketing at Gorica, we explore the latest steps in the company’s journey, its strategic adaptations, and its vision for the future.

Foundational Beginnings

Gorica’s journey began in 1990 in Dubai, when it was founded by GORICA Group chariman by Mr. Ivan Fornazaric as GORICA Trading, a small trading company in Al-Aweer Industrial Area. “At the time, Dubai was rapidly developing into an international hub for trade and commerce, and we saw an opportunity to grow with it,” Bocker recalls. “We began by selling trailers and commercial bodies, focusing on understanding the market’s unique needs.”

We’re committed to driving the future of transportation”

In 1993, Gorica transitioned to a more structured operation by establishing GOTRADE LLC, which specialised in spare parts, workshop services, and commercial body sales. “This was our first significant step forward,” Bockor explains. “We recognised the need for after-sales support in the region, and by focusing on that, we were able to build trust and long-term relationships with our customers.” GOTRADE also became the sole UAE and Oman distributor for Palfinger AG, a leading manufacturer of cranes and hydraulic systems, marking the company’s first major strategic partnership.

As Dubai’s development accelerated in the late 1990s, Gorica saw the need

to evolve from a trading company into a manufacturer. “1998 was a pivotal year for us,” Bockor says. “We established our first manufacturing facility, GORICA Industries LLC, in Jebel Ali. This allowed us to control the quality of our products and scale our operations to meet the growing demand from large-scale infrastructure projects such as the Palm Jumeirah.” The move allowed Gorica to produce a wide range of trailers and commercial bodies, from general cargo semi-trailers to specialised tipping bodies and low-bed trailers.

Key Milestones

The late 1990s and early 2000s were a period of rapid growth for Gorica, driven by demand from construction and oil and gas industries. However, the company also recognised the need to expand its reach beyond the UAE. In 2005, it opened its first international sales office in Kuwait. “Kuwait was our first significant move into the wider Gulf region,” Bocker explains. “It allowed us to build a local presence and respond to the specific needs of the market there.”

Further expansions followed in Oman in 2009 and Qatar in 2011. “Our philosophy has always been that local presence is key to building customer relationships,” says Bocker. “In Oman, we didn’t just open a sales office; we also set up a manufacturing unit in Ghala to cater to the specific demands of the Omani market, such as tipping bodies for construction vehicles.”

The company’s growth trajectory continued into 2015, with the establishment of a state-of-the-art factory in Dubai Industrial City (DIC), specifically designed for the production of refrigerated trailers and bodies. “This investment was driven by our recognition of the growing importance of cold-chain logistics in the region,” Bocker notes. “As the service sector expanded and the demand for perishable goods grew, we saw an opportunity to lead the market with advanced refrigerated logistics solutions.”

Impacting the Market

Several strategic decisions have been central to Gorica’s success. One of the most impactful has been the establishment of its own Research & Development (R&D) department. “From early on, we realised the importance of developing our own products,” says Bockor. “Rather than copying existing designs, we focused on creating innovative solutions tailored to the unique demands of the region.”

This approach allowed Gorica to build a reputation for flexibility and customisation. “One of the challenges we face in the Middle East is the diversity of regulations across the region,” Bockor explains. “Each market, from the UAE to Saudi Arabia, has different road regulations, so a one-size-fits-all solution doesn’t work. We’ve made flexibility and customisation a cornerstone of our business, offering tailor-made solutions that meet the specific needs of each market.”

Another significant strategic decision was Gorica’s focus on regional expansion. “We made a conscious decision to open locally owned companies in other GCC countries,” Bockor explains. “This allowed us to provide

Our philosophy has always been that local presence is key”

direct after-sales service, faster deliveries, and localised solutions to meet the unique needs of each country. Having a presence on the ground in markets like Oman, Qatar, and Saudi Arabia has been crucial to our success.”

The company’s decision in 2015 to invest in refrigerated logistics also reflects its forward-looking strategy. “As the GCC economies began to shift towards services, particularly logistics, we saw an opportunity to lead in cold-chain logistics,” says Bocker. “We invested in a new factory specifically designed for the production of refrigerated trailers and bodies, which has allowed us to cater to the growing demand for perishable goods transportation.”

MARKET ADAPTION

One of Gorica’s key strengths is its ability to customise products to meet the specific needs of each market.

Adapting to a Change

The Middle East’s transition from a construction-led economy to a more service-based one has required Gorica to adapt its product offerings to meet the evolving needs of its customers. “The growth in logistics, retail, and food distribution has been significant over the last decade,” Bockor explains. “As a result, we’ve expanded our range to include more specialised products such as refrigerated trailers, food logistics bulkers, and waste management vehicles both liquid and solid waste.”

One of Gorica’s key strengths is its ability to customise products to meet the specific needs of each market. “Flexibility is crucial in the GCC, where road regulations are not unified across the region,” Bocker notes. “While we would prefer to standardise our production, the demand for customised solutions gives us a competitive edge in the Middle East. Our customers appreciate that we can offer them tailored products that meet their specific requirements.”

Leading Through R&D

Technological innovation has been a driving force behind Gorica’s success. The company has continuous-ly invested in re-engineering its existing products to make them lighter, safer, and more efficient. “We focus on integrating smart, digitalised solutions into our trailers,” Bockor explains. “For example, we’ve developed systems that provide real-time data on load distribution and temperature control, which help fleet operators optimise their operations and improve efficiency as part of GORICA smart solutions program”

Strategic partnerships have also played a key role in Gorica’s growth. “We’ve built

We’ve expanded our range to include more specialised products”

long-term relationships with key suppliers such as FARID in Italy, Thermo King in Ireland, and Palfinger in Austria,” says Bockor. “These partnerships allow us to offer world-class products and integrate the latest technologies into our trailers.”

As the global demand for greener transportation solutions increases, Gorica has taken steps to lead the way in sustainable transportation in the Middle East. In 2023, the company launched its Green Line programme, with a focus on developing emission-free solutions for the transportation sector. “We’re very proud of our Green Line initiative,” Bockor says. “We’re launched already 3 fully electric trucks with

electric garbage compactors in UAE and 2 fully electric trucks wth electric garbage compactor in KSA this year, and we have several other green projects in the pipeline.”

The company is also exploring renewable energy solutions such as hydrogenpowered solutions and photovoltaicpowered systems. “Sustainability isn’t just about reducing emissions; it’s about creating long-term solutions that benefit both the environment and the economy,” Bockor emphasises. “We’re committed to embedding sustainability into every aspect of our operations, from the products we create to the way we manufacture them.”

Navigating the Challenges of Regulatory Compliance

Despite its successes, Gorica faces several challenges, particularly in the area of regulatory compliance. “One of the biggest challenges we face in the GCC is the lack of uniform road regulations across the region,” says Bockor. “Each country has its own set of rules regarding trailer weights and dimensions, which makes cross-border logistics more complicated and often creates inefficiencies.”

In Europe, regulations governing trailer weights, dimensions, and safety standards are well-defined and uniformly enforced across the EU, making transportation across borders smoother and more efficient. “In the Middle East, we’re still far from having

a unified set of road regulations,” Bockor explains. “In Europe, there’s a standard Gross Vehicle Weight (GVW) limit of 45 tonnes, which ensures that trailers are not overloaded. In the GCC, we’re seeing a lot of non-compliant and overloaded trailers, which poses a serious safety risk.”

Another significant regulatory gap in the GCC relates to refrigerated logistics. “In Europe, there are strict ATP regulations governing the transport of perishable goods, ensuring that refrigerated trailers maintain the proper temperature and hygiene standards,” Bockor explains. “In the Middle East, however, there are no such regulations, which means older imported second hand, non-compliant trailers are often used to transport perishable goods.”

Bocker stresses that this lack of regulation poses a serious health risk. “In Europe, refrigerated trailers must be retired after eight years because they can no longer maintain the proper insulation and temperature control. In the Middle East, we see trailers that are 15 to 20 years old still in operation. These trailers often

Having a presence on the ground in markets like Oman, Qatar, and Saudi Arabia has been crucial to our success”

have poor insulation and, in some cases, fungal growth inside the trailer, which can contaminate the goods being transported.”

GORICA has been actively advocating for the introduction of regulations similar to the European ATP standards in the GCC. “We’re pushing for stricter regulations to ensure that only compliant, properly maintained trailers are used to transport perishable goods,” says Bockor. “This is not just a matter of safety; it’s about protecting the health of consumers in the region.”

The Road Ahead

Looking ahead, Gorica has ambitious plans for the future, particularly in Saudi Arabia, where Vision 2030 is driving unprecedented investment in infrastructure and logistics. “Saudi Arabia is a key market for us,” says Bockor. “It’s the largest economy in the Middle East, and the government’s focus on diversifying the economy has created enormous opportunities for companies like ours.”

In addition to Saudi Arabia, Gorica is also expanding into markets such as Iraq and

Africa, where demand for transportation solutions is growing. “These markets are becoming increasingly important to us, and we’re committed to growing our presence there,” Bockor affirms.

As the Middle East continues to evolve, Gorica is well-positioned to lead the way in the trailer and commercial vehicle market, leveraging its strengths in innovation, flexibility, and sustainability to meet the region’s changing demands. “Our longterm vision is to stay ahead of the curve,” says Bocker. “Whether it’s through smart technology, sustainability initiatives, or expanding our presence in key markets, we’re committed to driving the future of transportation in the Middle East.”

From its humble beginnings as a trading company to its current position as a regional powerhouse, Gorica’s journey reflects the company’s ability to adapt to the shifting sands of the Middle Eastern market. With its focus on innovation and sustainability, Gorica is well-positioned to continue leading the way in the transportation sector for years to come.

A FORCE

FOR GOODS

NAZ Industries is embracing its role as a leading force in the Middle East’s trailer manufacturing market

NAZ Industries, originally known as Mammut Industries, has firmly established itself as a pivotal player in the Middle East’s truck trailer manufacturing sector since its inception in 1996. The company, initially located in Jebel Ali, Dubai, later relocated to the Hamriyah Free Zone Authority (HFZA) as part of the Dubai Government’s Palm Jebel Ali development initiative.

Over the years, NAZ Industries has forged strong partnerships with prestigious companies such as Tristar, Saif Bin Darwish, and Volvo, contributing to iconic projects like Jumeirah Palm, Jumeirah Beach Residence (JBR), and Burj Khalifa. Today, NAZ Industries operates from a state-ofthe-art facility in Dubai Investment Park (DIP2), where it has scaled its production capabilities from 15 units per month in 1996 to an impressive 300 units per month.

Adel Mir, CEO of NAZ Industries, reflects on the company’s journey: “Our growth over the past few decades has been remarkable. From our humble beginnings in Jebel Ali, we have expanded both our production capabilities and our market reach. This growth is a testament to the hard work and dedication of our team, as well as the strong relationships we have built with our clients. We are proud to have contributed to some of the most iconic developments in Dubai and to have played a role in shaping the infrastructure of the region.”

NAZ Industries’ success is deeply rooted in its commitment to core values that emphasise respect, integrity, and human principles. These values permeate every aspect of the business, from relationships with clients and suppliers to the treatment of employees.

Adel Mir explains, “At NAZ Industries, we believe that respect is fundamental to everything we do. We respect our clients by delivering high-quality products that meet their needs; we respect our suppliers by maintaining strong, collaborative relationships; and we respect our employees by fostering a positive and supportive work environment. This approach has allowed us to build a team that is not only skilled but also deeply committed to the success of the company.”

The company’s commitment to these values has resulted in a highly motivated and dedicated workforce, which in turn has driven NAZ Industries’ ability to deliver outstanding products and services to its clients.

NAZ Industries offers a diverse range of truck trailers and specialised equipment

designed to meet the needs of various industries, including construction, logistics, waste management, ports, food and beverage, and oil and gas.

The company’s product portfolio includes nearly 50 different products, with approximately 30% of its offerings consisting of body-mounted products such as tippers, fuel tankers, water tankers, vacuum tankers, and garbage compactors. The remaining 70% are semi-trailers and specialised equipment, including flatbeds, lowbeds, curtain side trailers, skeletal trailers, and a wide array of tankers and bulkers.

“Our product range is one of the most comprehensive in the market,” says Adel Mir. “We understand that different industries have unique requirements, and we have made it our mission to provide solutions that cater to those needs. Whether it’s a simple tipper or a complex frac tank, we have the expertise and the capability to deliver products that meet the highest standards of quality and performance.”

NAZ Industries differentiates itself in the highly competitive trailer manufacturing market through its unwavering commitment to quality. The company adheres to stringent international standards, including ASME, ADR, NF-EN, and ISO certifications, ensuring that its products meet the highest levels of safety, reliability, and performance.

“Our focus on quality is non-negotiable,” asserts Adel Mir. “We follow strict quality control processes throughout the manufacturing cycle, from material selection to final inspections. This approach has earned us a reputation for producing trailers that are not only durable and reliable but also engineered to have a service life of at least 20 years, provided they are properly maintained. This is not just our claim; it is a testament shared by our clients in the UAE and internationally.”

The rigorous quality control processes at NAZ Industries include compliance with ESMA and local regulations, thorough material inspections, design validation, and comprehensive testing of components such as brakes, lighting, and suspension. The company ensures that each trailer undergoes welding quality control, assembly inspections, and final road tests before delivery, guaranteeing that every product meets the highest standards.

Customisation is strength

One of NAZ Industries’ key strengths is its ability to offer a high degree of customisation, catering to the specific needs of its diverse client base. The company operates two

production lines: one dedicated to the mass production of standard items, which accounts for approximately 65% of total production, and another focused on customised orders, which represent the remaining 35%.

“Our ability to customise products is one of the factors that set us apart in the market,” says Adel Mir. “We have a dedicated engineering department that designs customised products in both 2D and 3D. These designs are subjected to rigorous testing, and only upon client approval do we proceed with production. This allows us to meet the specific requirements of different industries, whether it’s a simple trailer or a complex piece of equipment like a frac tank or shale shaker.”

NAZ Industries’ customisation capabilities extend beyond trailers and body-mounted products. The company has also manufactured specialised equipment for various industries, including oil and gas, and has delivered customised trailers and equipment to clients such as Emirates Global Aluminium (EGA) and Siemens.

As a supplier to over 15 countries across the Middle East and Africa, NAZ Industries is well-versed in navigating the complex regulatory environments of different markets. The company meticulously reviews local road regulations, road conditions, and environmental factors before entering new markets, ensuring that its trailers are compliant and optimised for the specific needs of each country.

“We take regulatory compliance very seriously,” explains Adel Mir. “Before we enter any new market, our first step is to

Our focus on quality is nonnegotiable”

thoroughly review the local road regulations, road conditions, and environmental factors such as temperature. This allows our design and engineering teams to tailor our products to meet the specific needs of each country, ensuring that our trailers are not only compliant but also highly effective in their intended environments.”

NAZ Industries has successfully navigated the regulatory environments of various countries, including Saudi Arabia and Qatar, where the company adheres strictly to road regulations, including the maximum payload allowed on each trailer. The company also

MEETING

ensures that all products destined for Saudi Arabia are equipped with VIN numbers and SASO certification, further demonstrating its commitment to regulatory compliance.

The Middle Eastern market, particularly in Saudi Arabia and the UAE, has experienced a significant surge in demand for truck trailers, driven by the announcement of mega projects linked to Saudi Arabia’s Vision 2030 and large-scale developments in the UAE. NAZ Industries has capitalised on this demand, capturing a substantial market share in both countries.

“The demand for trailers in the region has grown exponentially, particularly in Saudi Arabia, where the market requires approximately 20,000 units annually,” notes Adel Mir. “We are currently selling between 50 and 60 trailers each month in Saudi Arabia, and this number is expected to rise as more projects come online. In the UAE, the demand has also increased significantly, with the country now accounting for more than 20% of our total market.”

The regional market has also witnessed several trends over the past few years, including the impact of the COVID-19 pandemic and subsequent geopolitical conflicts. Despite these challenges, NAZ Industries has continued to thrive, leveraging its strong market position and adaptability to meet evolving market needs.

Facing challenges

While NAZ Industries has enjoyed significant success in the Middle Eastern market, the company also faces several challenges, including supply chain disruptions and the need to adapt to emerging technologies such as electric trucks. However, Adel Mir remains optimistic about the future, identifying potential opportunities for growth in both the Middle East and Africa.

“Supply chain disruptions have been one of our biggest challenges, particularly due to the geopolitical crisis in the region,” says Adel Mir. “Additionally, as new technologies such as electric trucks emerge, we must be prepared to address new challenges related to design and trailer weight. However, we see significant growth potential in Saudi Arabia, where over $1 trillion in mega projects have been announced as part of Vision 2030. We are also exploring opportunities in African countries, where there is increasing demand for high-quality products.”

In addition to its strong presence in the UAE and Saudi Arabia, NAZ Industries exports its trailers to a wide range of countries

across the Middle East and Africa, including Oman, Kuwait, Qatar, Bahrain, Iraq, Jordan, Syria, Ghana, Senegal, Ethiopia, Djibouti, Sudan, and Mauritania. The company is also looking to expand its presence in new markets, particularly in Africa, where demand for high-quality trailers is on the rise.

“Africa has become a promising market for us in recent years,” says Adel Mir. “Chinese products that were introduced and sold there after the COVID-19 pandemic have been losing credibility due to poor quality, resulting in an increased demand for high-quality products. We believe that our commitment to quality and our ability to customise products to meet the specific needs of different markets will position us well for growth in this region.”

NAZ Industries is committed to ensuring customer satisfaction through comprehensive after-sales services and support. All products manufactured by the company, including frames and chassis, come with a one-year warranty, while components such as axles, brakes, tires, rims, and lighting are covered by warranties ranging from one to five years, depending on the component.

“We understand that trailers are commercial equipment, and downtime can lead to significant losses for our clients,” explains Adel Mir. “That’s why we have a dedicated service team that acts swiftly to address any issues that arise during the warranty period. Our prompt response helps minimise disruptions and prevents unnecessary financial impacts for our customers.”

In addition to warranty services, NAZ Industries offers maintenance and repair services at its factory in the UAE and through authorised workshops in other countries. The company also provides maintenance

instructions on an aluminium plate affixed to the chassis, guiding users on how to inspect the trailers and tighten bolts at specified intervals.

As sustainability becomes increasingly important in the manufacturing industry, NAZ Industries has implemented several eco-friendly practices in its manufacturing processes. These initiatives include the use of recycled and biodegradable materials, energy-efficient machinery, waste reduction strategies, and the implementation of ISO 14001 and 45001 certifications for environmental management.

“Sustainability is a key focus for us at NAZ Industries,” says Adel Mir. “We are committed to reducing our environmental impact through a variety of initiatives, from using sustainable materials to implementing energy-efficient manufacturing processes. We believe that these practices not only benefit the environment

but also resonate with our clients who are increasingly looking for eco-friendly products.”

Looking ahead, NAZ Industries is poised for continued growth and expansion. The company plans to initiate a second shift at its DIP factory to meet increasing demand and is developing a new 40,000 sqm factory in the Free Zone, which will be operational shortly. Additionally, NAZ Industries is exploring opportunities to establish production facilities in Saudi Arabia and Qatar, further solidifying its presence in the region.

“Our future is bright, and we are excited about the opportunities that lie ahead,” concludes Adel Mir. “We are committed to continuing our legacy of excellence, quality, and innovation, and we look forward to serving our clients in the Middle East and beyond for many years to come.”

NEW TECH LETS DRIVERS HEAR THE STORIES

OF PIONEERING UAE

WOMEN

APPS

Al-Futtaim Toyota has launched an innovative campaign titled “Journey into Herstory,” which transforms the streets of the UAE into living narratives that honour the remarkable Emirati women for whom they are named. This groundbreaking initiative, developed in collaboration with the RTA and Memac Ogilvy, uses modern technology to blend the rich histories of the UAE’s most influential women with the everyday experiences of drivers.

The campaign utilises geo-targeting through Yango Maps, enabling users to receive audio stories specific to the street they are on, narrated by female Emirati voiceover artists. As drivers pass through streets like Hessa Street and Latifa Bint Hamdan Street, they are simultaneously entertained and educated about the lives and legacies of the pioneering women these streets are named after.

In addition to the geo-targeted audio stories, the campaign also features thought-provoking out-of-home (OOH) advertisements in key areas across the country, radio activations that incorporate daily traffic announcements about the female-named streets, and engaging social media content. Through these mediums, Al-Futtaim Toyota not only celebrates the achievements of these icons but also raises public awareness about their contributions to female empowerment and equality. Saad Abdullah, GM, Marketing and Communications for Al-Futtaim Toyota, commented on the campaign: “Our legacy in the UAE is deep-rooted, we wanted to highlight and bring to life the stories of the iconic individuals who paved the way for all women in the UAE today. They helped shape the nation.”

HVO IS EXPANDING ACROSS EUROPE, SAYS TK

BIOFUELS

The availability of Hydrotreated Vegetable Oil (HVO), a fossilfree diesel fuel, is rapidly increasing across Central and Southern Europe, complementing its already widespread use in Northern Europe. This expansion marks a significant step towards more sustainable refrigerated truck and trailer operations, offering companies a viable alternative to traditional diesel.

HVO, also known under the brand name XTL, has been approved by Thermo King — a global leader in transport temperature control solutions and a brand of Trane Technologies— since 2021. This approval allows Thermo King customers to power their truck and trailer refrigeration units with HVO, offering substantial environmental benefits.

The environmental impact of using HVO fuel is profound. It enables up

to a 90% reduction in greenhouse gas emissions and particulate matter pollution compared to conventional diesel, without compromising engine performance. This biodegradable fuel can be used as a direct replacement or blended with regular diesel, requiring no modifications to the unit’s engine or additional maintenance. With the increased availability of HVO across Europe, more Thermo King customers can now adopt

this sustainable fuel, significantly reducing the carbon footprint of their fleets. Many customers have already transitioned to using HVO in their truck and trailer operations, benefiting from the fuel’s superior environmental profile. In addition to its use by customers, Thermo King has been testing all large truck and trailer units with diesel engines using HVO at its Galway, Ireland manufacturing plant since 2021.
