The introduction of Renault Trucks International’s Used Trucks operation in the Middle East – complete with a share in the manufacturer’s dedicated office in Jebel Ali – has given the French company an opportunity to take on its Asian competition on their strongest USP, namely price. Now customers can get their hands on the newest T generation of trucks with Euro 3 engines as well as the ruggedised versions set-up via refurbished used units from Europe.
Renault Trucks’ factory in Bourg-enBresse has been converted to handle the refurbishment of used trucks for markets such as the Middle East and it is now running at full speed with 500 trucks transformed in 2020. The last two years have seen the introduction of both the X-Road and X-Port haulers into the region. A third truck, the T X- 64 launched early this year with the French truck-maker recently openly declaring it wants to compete with Chinese players in Africa and the Middle East.
The vehicles are converted using rigorous industrial processes and is specifically intended for customers operating in Africa and the Middle East. These trucks are typically three or four years old and within a respectable running range of up to 500,000km. Put together in France in under three days, the trucks are refurbished to current specs suitable for the local market applications. The used brand’s strength that is the trucks can be downgraded to certify them at Euro 3 in our factory while being specially made robust for the Middle East and Africa.
The T X-Road variants, for instance, are fitted with all the range’s trimmings including steel bumpers, strengthened cab access and protective grilles mounted over the headlamps. Typically, the trucks are also fitted with the fuel-saving optidriver transmission (almost every truck sold in Europe is fitted with the automatic transmission).
Refurbished and reinforced for the region
Add a fine selection of features and options including added fuel tanks and hydraulics for tippers and trailer roles, reinforced filtration for local conditions and fuel, under engine protection and a roof beacon system, you can purchase the good as new trucks with an extendable warranty and save a few dirhams and dollars in the process.
Used Trucks Factory conversions are conducted using recently used trucks that have been rigorously selected and subjected to over 200-point inspections. Each conversion has been specifically studied by Renault Trucks’ design and quality engineers. The industrial manufacturing and quality control processes meet a level of requirements comparable to those applied in the manufacture of new vehicles. Consequently, this has enabled Renault Trucks International to initially offer a minimum six months and international driveline warranty. So a customer that drives from Bahrain and Dubai (for example) has support under warranty at each of the local importers.

With a change of stringers, suspensions, axles and conversion of the power train, the Renault Trucks T X-64 includes over 50% of new original parts. Its T cab meanwhile maximises the driver’s comfort.
It is fitted with a new ultra-robust reinforced 6x4 300 mm chassis with a three-axle profile, allowing a load of 8 tons on the front axle and 26 tons on the rear. For optimum driving comfort and perfect control of the vehicle in any situation, the Renault Trucks T X-64 is fitted with an Optidriver robotised gearbox with offroad mode and manual acceleration.
Based on a Renault Trucks T Euro VI converted into Euro III, the Renault Trucks T X-64 guarantees the highest pollution control level as applied in Africa and the Middle East. The Used Trucks Factory operators begin the conversion by dismantling and recycling the

Renault Trucks International has been working behind the scenes to ensure that fleets can see the virtues of going for the used alternative if a new truck doesn’t fit their current financial or operational requirements. This has enabled it and its dealers to be more aggressive with their used sales and can even now offer fleets access to Renault-backed financing as they can for the new trucks.
Distributors are also playing a crucial part of the operation with the Renault Trucks International ensuring that cross-border fleets can get access to support throughout the region. They are also tasked in ensuring that services under warranty are delivered to the same standards wherever the fleet or vehicle is.
While the focus is on the refurbished T Range trucks, the company can also offer other used vehicles in the Renault stable.
