WELCOME Welcome to the 2019 Truck Book, which comes out following one of the most exciting periods for new vehicle and product launches in the region for over a decade. We’ve seen most, if not all, the major suppliers of fleet and commercial vehicles launch new versions of existing products and, in some cases, entirely new generations of vehicles into the market. With the UAE making the switch to higher emission standards, there is also now a staging point in the market for vehicles that are very close to their counterparts in other markets. This means a higher level of technology than we have ever had access to and this can only be a good thing for fleets looking to modernise. As the region nears the standards of technology and fleet management seen elsewhere in the world, it is also being identified as an important, progressive market for the makers of vehicles and fleet software and systems. Many of the new vehicles highlighted in the 2019 Truck Book will have been tested here before launch and to a level that has never been seen before. With state-of-the-art infrastructure and international trade major priorities for the region, we need vehicles and services that can keep pace with these changes. In the 2019 Truck Book, we get to take a peak at that exciting future.

across the automotive, commercial vehicles, heavy equipment and agricultural equipment markets. The Commercial Vehicles & Heavy Equipment division employs 400 people in total. Its major markets are all types of mobility solutions transporting people and cargo. Swaidan Trading supplies the Ashok Leyland, DAF Trucks and Maxus, VDL, Sunwin bus, Sennebogen crane and various other brands, offering full end-to-end customer service including sales, support and after-sales service. The company is also currently expanding its presence in the Oman market through its joint venture with First Vehicles, one of the largest providers of buses and

public transport vehicles in the region. The company has enjoyed a highly successful partnership with Ashok Leyland, the flagship company of the Hinduja Group and a major manufacturer of trucks and buses in India, since 1984. Ashok Leyland ranks globally as the the 10th largest manufacturer of trucks and the 5th largest manufacturer of buses. Swaidan Trading distributes its popular range of worker, school and staff transport buses, including the Falcon and the UAE-built Oyster range with hundreds of thousands of workers and students travel on Ashok Leyland buses every single day. Recently, it also added Ashok Leyland’s Partner light pickup truck, a highly practical and capable light commercial vehicle. Swaidan Trading’s long-standing relationship with Ashok Leyland as its exclusive representative in the UAE has seen the brand increase its profile

significantly, and in 2017 Swaidan Trading established a world-class 15,000m2 sales, after-sales and service facility to support Ashok Leyland’s distribution network and production facility in Ras Al Khaimah. Swaidan Trading expanded its light commercial vehicles offering in 2014 with the addition of the Maxus brand to the portfolio, including the versatile V80, which is the only vehicle that can be registered with both 15 and 18 seats in the UAE, as well as being DOT and RTA approved for school transportation. brANd owNerShip As part of ANGE, Swaidan Trading has been carefully cultivating several famous brands within the UAE market including VDL, Ashok Leyland, Maxus and, most recently, DAF Trucks.

In line with its commitment to technology, trust and ambition, Maxus spares no effort in maintaining the brand’s global vision and international acclaim. The brand is dedicated to building a competitive commercial vehicle enterprise worldwide, as well as providing customers with highquality commercial vehicles and services. In 2017, Swaidan Trading further diversified its business by entering the truck industry through its partnership with leading European truck manufacturer, DAF. In 2018, DAF celebrated its 90th anniversary and a record year in terms of production and sales. DAF trucks are well known for their quality, reliability, fuel efficiency and lower total cost of ownership (TCO). Recently two of DAF’s models, the XF and CF models, were awarded ‘International Truck of the Year’ at the prestigious Solutrans Commercial Vehicle Show in France. Swaidan Trading’s line-up of brands offer a lower TCO (total cost of ownership), better reliability, efficiency and less downtime. All these factors combined add to the profitability of its clients. Offering superb value-for-money and exceptional reliability, Ashok Leyland vehicles have proven extremely popular in the UAE due to their very low total cost of ownership when compared to competitors. Backed up by a state-of-the-art sales, aftersales and service facility staffed by highly-

trained technicians, it can ensure minimal down-time for our clients’ fleet vehicles. Also offering excellent value-for-money, the comfort, reliability and versatility of Maxus vans are what set them apart in a competitive market. For example, the Maxus V80 van is the only one of its kind in the UAE that can be registered with both 15 and 18 seats, allowing for more passengers and therefore higher returns. DAF trucks furthermore offer very low TCO as they are manufactured to the highest quality standards and adhere to best-in-class specifications. This makes them more reliable and durable even when deployed for the most demanding applications in the UAE. DAF trucks after-sales services & spare parts are competitively priced and contribute to Swaidan Trading’s commitment to lower TCO In addition to the vehicles themselves, Swaidan Trading offers customised transport solutions based on its customer’s needs. It also offers extensive after-sales support, special repair and maintenance packages, 24x7 emergency repairs throughout the UAE, with state-of-the-art service centres in various emirates. Swaidan Trading has more than 400 technicians dedicated to commercial vehicles across the UAE, in addition to seven workshops. Swaidan Trading also offers mobile workshops and emergency breakdown services, which are available on demand.

AjiT kumAr Chief Operating Officer: Commercial, Transport and Electrical, for Al Naboodah Group Enterprises.

Customer service is a priority and part of Swaidan Trading’s vision 2020, and all measures are taken to ensure a superior level of customer service throughout the entire sales process. The company says its 2018 performance was in line with industry performance but it has also entered into new product segments and diversified its client portfolio further, achieving “remarkable results”. With industry volumes expected to improve in 2019, Swaidan Trading expects that it will achieve better results in each of its product segments this year. It will be launching new products into the market such as the Ashok Leyland Partner pickup and DAF LF Truck range also. After extensive market analysis, the Maxus T-60 Pickup will be placed in the right application segment, ensuring greater results. “Swaidan Trading plans for 2019 include the clear identification of industry segments and placing the right products in these segments to offer a complete transport solution, geographical expansion plans are also in progress,” says Ajit Kumar, COO: Commercial, Transport and Electrical, ANGE. “We will also be focused on customer service. By focusing on maximising uptime and an overall lower TCO, we hope to target key strategic customers and partners with the added value of efficient and convenient after-sales servicing support throughout the UAE.”

Apollo Tyres A

pollo Tyres Ltd is an international tyre major, with manufacturing units in India, the Netherlands and Hungary. The company was founded in India in the 1970s and today it exports to over 100 countries and markets its products under its two global brands – Apollo & Vredestein. To support its vision “To be a premium tyre company with a diversified and multinational presence” it has made a series of major acquisitions, including the Netherlands-based premium Vredestein brand. At the same time, it has also invested in organic growth in international markets with its offices in Dubai, Thailand, Malaysia & South Africa. While Apollo is a leading brand in India, Vredestein is a premium brand in Europe. Its global manufacturing footprint continues to expand with the launch of its Hungarian plant which will complement its tyre factory in the Netherlands, in addition to its four plants in India.

Apollo Tyres Middle East (ATME) was established as legal entity in 2011 and was Apollo Tyres’ first sales and marketing subsidiary established outside India as it looked to drive organic growth in export markets. The ATME team includes sales, technical, customer service, back office and testing personnel. The company sells its full range of Truck, Light Truck, Passenger Car and Off Highway Tyres through its distribution partners in more than 30 countries within the Middle-East, North Africa, EastWest Africa and Central Asia regions. construction, industrial, earth mover and special (Sand) applications. Apollo Tyres ME has racked up a series of impressive benchmark achievements in developing markets like the GCC, Iran, Turkey, Ethiopia and Kenya. This progress has been largely driven by its ability to develop an in-depth understanding of local product requirements and use it to drive new product development and the launch of winning products for the region. It has also enabled it to rollout its hands-on product training and industry-leading after sales service. The company has also embarked on a brand-building journey in some of its key markets in the region to help drive sustainable growth and create enduser awareness, as well as demand for its products over the long-term. This approach has helped Apollo Tyres ME to drive growth in its key product categories and expand our distribution in the region. Tyre experts at its R&D facilities in Europe and India leverage on the latest

After the development phase, every Apollo tyre undergoes stringent quality checks in test laboratories externally and internally to be able to meet the demanding GSO and SASO PCR certifications and related green label values. “Apollo TBR tyres are distinguished by their strong casing, excellent durability, superior mileage and retreadability. Our value proposition is compelling: Tier 1 quality at Tier 2 prices. We are bringing continuous support to the fleets to help them run a successful business. UNRIVALLED FLEET CUSTOMER UNDERSTANDING Able to draw on the wider group’s expertise in infrastructure technology – as well as a complete and advanced portfolio and range of services for fleets – Continental brings an unrivalled understanding of designing the new generation of tyres and it believes there is no a single tyre manufacturer able to provide this vehicle knowledge background when they develop a tyre.

CONTINENTAL F ounded in 1871, Continental established its regional office in Dubai in 2015; forming a legal entity to oversee its middle east operations in 19 markets and the development of its 38 local strategic partnerships. Continental has introduced a tyre range made specifically for all tyres segments in the Middle East covering everything from truck tyres for goods, construction and people transport, passenger tyres from its commodity and comfort ranges to ultra-high performance ranges and tyres suitable for the growing van segment. There are also lines of commercial speciality tyres for material handling, agriculture and earth moving. With Continental still in the throes of a growth phase in the Middle East, it is investing in its team and the local partners teams across the region, and recently secured a joint-venture in Saudi Arabia as part of a strategy to expand the business by getting closer to its key markets. Continental’s customers are facing non-traditional challenges in a very complex business environment, and concepts like efficiency and cost reduction are no

longer a luxury. While many companies offer a product-only service, Continental Middle East is focused on innovative solutions for the challenges they face. Its regional team supports customers with customised solutions using technical analysis, product management and R&D and coordinates with the heart of Continental’s industry-leading engineering and technical expertise based in Germany Continental is a leader in smart tyre technology and has been the rolling out ContiPressureCheck, a tyre pressure monitoring system that continuously monitors bus and truck tyre pressure and temperature via sensors placed inside the tyre. ContiPressureCheck complies with requirements to install remote monitoring devices such as those introduced by the RTA in Dubai last year. An integrated solution for the tractor and trailer combination, it can also be retrofitted – enabling older fleets to get the benefit of the very latest in tyre safety and efficiency technology. ContiPressureCheck has subsequently been complemented by the introductions of other concepts and prototypes solutions

for passenger cars in the past year, such as ContiSense, which uses tyre sensors to measure tread depth and temperature for alerting drivers to tyre damage, transmitting data via electrically conductive rubber, and ContiAdapt which adjusts tyre pressure and rim width to adapt contact patch to road conditions. The two technologies are designed to continuously monitor a tyre’s condition and offer situationmatched adaptation of tyre performance characteristics to prevailing road conditions. Continental will continue to enhance its fleet customers’ operations with tyre solutions that enable them to achieve the lowest overall driving costs in 2019. It is committed to helping them to maintain this through to the long-term and 2019 will see the company offer more education to truck drivers in the region and introduce the continental service concept for fleets, Conti360° Fleet Services: “From the perfect selection of the tyres through correct fitting, ongoing monitoring and reporting, fast response in the event of a tyre breakdown to the proper handling of worn tyres, Conti360° Fleet Services is a total solution for fleets who want to excel in an evolving market.”

SUPPORTING THE INDUSTRY To support the commercial truck and bus tire sector, Giti Tire has a full range of Long Haul, Regional, Urban, Mixed Service, Off-Road, and even competition racing truck tires. Among its most popular tires are the GAM833, a super durable and long-lasting all-position tire, and the GSR225, a tire which serves the long-haul and regional segments.

GITI TIRE G iti Tire is a Singaporebased global tire company focussed on providing great value, service, and support to customers; giving them advanced, highly dependable and sensible options in a competitive marketplace. The quality and durability of tires is paramount from product design to production equipment with strong retreadability providing greater lifelong value. The Giti Group has a long history in the Middle East providing both passenger car and truck and bus tires with different brands in its line. The region‘s large and diverse consumer market, and its wide use of commercial vehicles, are well-suited to Giti’s line-up of tires. It a full range of passenger car, SUV/4x4, and light truck tires for any type of use and

vehicle segment. For commercial truck and bus tires, Giti has a full range of offerings for the Long haul, Regional, Urban, Mixed service, and Off-road segments. With many distributor partnerships exceeding more than 25 years, Giti has formed a variety of very strong partnerships across the region. Together, the right brand and products can be introduced and properly applied within local markets. Through the decades of dedicated service in the Middle East, Giti Tire has learned that fleets in the region perform at their best when they are running on tires that can endure the harshest conditions on the planet, as well as rely on support that ensures their operations’ run smoothly, safely and efficiently. As fleet costs rise and road safety regulations become stricter, fleet owners require more help than ever to remain competitive. Chris Bloor, executive general manager of International Sales says the company’s efforts strengthen its ability

to provide vital fleet assistance at a time when many operators in the region are demanding more from their tires. “Previously, many markets were often characterised by wholesale selling with a focus on price and not much in the way of service or other benefits,” says Bloor. “However, this model is no longer able to succeed, due to better informed end-users and an influx of low-end tires. Now, a model that includes great cost-per-kilometer, service, fleet education, and support tools and materials is needed to be truly successful in the long-term.” In Asia, the wide variety of conditions and driving styles demands a high level of both quality and service that is flexible and can be adapted to the region. “When comparing cost-per-kilometer in testing, Giti performs very strongly, and in addition offers a great deal of training and support tools for fleets and other users”, Bloor mentions. This is one of the reasons why top fleets in a variety of industries have selected Giti tires, and provided testimonials about the success that they have had. “Regardless of the applications or conditions the vehicles are working in, Giti has an option to fit the need,” says Bloor.

its high technology and eco-friendly vehicles such as Electricity bus and Fuel cell electricity bus (Elecity) and the autonomous cargo truck (Xcient). Progress is being made at a rapid pace and the autonomous version of the Xcient successfully completed a 40km test drive in August on a specially designed course in South Korea. While Hyundai Motor Company expects the vehicle to be available in the market in 2020, it also revealed the world’s first fuel cell electric truck at the IAA Hanover Motor show in September 2018 and plans to produce 1,000 units in 2019. One of the main strengths of the Hyundai Motor Company brand is its closeness to its distributors and customers. Every two years, it hosts the Global Hyundai Truck & Bus Distributors Convention for all of

its distributors in the world at a speciallyselected major global city. During the event, the gathered distributors are encouraged to share in the company’s long-term product plan and product strategy as Hyundai Motor Company looks to support its distributors’ businesses and to form strong ties to the Hyundai family. The convention is also an opportunity to introduce new models to the global network distributors. The Hyundai Truck & Bus Mega Fair meanwhile is the world’s largest commercial vehicle festival for advanced vehicles, technologies, and people involved in different fields. The last MEGA Fair in 2017 in Seoul, Korea attracted 30,000 visitors enabling general customers and fleet customers, including government bodies, to get hands on experience with

the vehicles and test performance and economic efficiency for themselves as well as participate in the many games hosted during the event. The three-day fair returns to Korea in 2019 with the world first FCEV Truck likely to be the centre of attention. More locally, it also organises the H-fair event for fleet businesses. In 2018, the company held separate H-fair shows in Jordan and Morocco and visited fleet customers to introduce the company as well as its Fleet Assurance Program. It also provided training programs to fleet customers on how to use and properly maintain its vehicles. It also holds quarterly product, marketing and sales conferences in local markets to share its strategy with distributors in the region while gaining crucial feedback and market intelligence.

Today, thanks to a full range of commercial vehicles, IVECO can accommodate every mission from urban and international delivery, freight transportation to construction and quarry sectors. IVECO has two offices in the Middle East: one in Cairo and the other one in

Dubai. Supporting the regional operation is a fully dedicated team at its headquarters in Turin, Italy. The region is growing in importance at IVECO and it is expecting its presence in the Middle East and Africa to grow substantially in the near future. In general, and due to the wide line up offered, IVECO can cover all the main several segment existing in the region from mining and quarrying; to construction and contracting companies; logistics and transport; municipalities and tenders. IVECO has continued to innovate and develop its ranges and the past two years has seen a steady flow of new and revised vehicles in its range. The switch to Euro 4 in the UAE has also improved its power range especially in light and heavy trucks for that market. The heavy segment represents IVECO core business in all the main markets in the Middle East; the needs of fleets are changing as are the types of vehicles required and IVECO’s off-highway and on-highway ranges offer a superior offer choice for fleet owners. IVECO is particularly strong in both the

Off-Road construction segment (mainly Tippers, Pumps and Cement Mixers) with the Trakker and the Astra models and the On-Road segment for the long haulage distribution with the Performer and the flagship Stralis. It is also a major player in the waste management and municipalities sector, where the entire Eurocargo range finds its natural habitat between 12 and 18t GVW. In 2018, IVECO launched the new product: the Stralis X-Way, a vehicle that combines the most suitable features for the area of the Trakker and Stralis making it a perfect product for construction logistic, for missions where there is a combination of light off road and on road in a percentage of around 80-20%. The Stralis X-Way raises the stakes in light off-road missions with the biggest payload in its segment. It combines the best of IVECO’s fuel-efficiency and safety technologies with the legendary off-road robustness of its toughest vehicles to deliver high productivity with low Total Cost of Operation. The Stralis X-Way takes the modular approach to the

extreme, starting from a choice of lineups, which can be tailored to a specific mission with an extensive offering of features, components and specifications. The result is ultimate flexibility. The Stralis X-Way is suitable for missions where the road conditions are a mix between On-, Light-, Off- road and general driving where road conditions require a more robust product than a pure on-road product. It also offers the advantages of the on-road and light off-road Stralis, a wider cabin if needed, 10l and 13l engines with a power ranging to 540hp and manual automated boxes. The Stralis itself raises the stakes in productivity and profitability with a complete package comprising cutting-edge features, technologies and services tailored to suit every transport business. All the features and upgrades focus on maximising productivity and profitability of real-life transport business, and have been developed in collaboration with customers. productivity in all missions, available with 3 different cabs: Hi-Way, Hi-Road and Hi-Street. A unique blend of form and function, bringing efficiency and style to the cab of the Stralis. Aerodynamic fuel saving solutions have been combined with a series of striking design concepts to further emphasise the unmistakable style of the Stralis. At 85 km/h, 40% of a vehicles fuel consumption goes on overcoming air resistance. By improving the drag coefficient (Cx) by 3%, IVECO has gained a fuel saving of I% in long-haul jobs. The improved aerodynamic penetration also helps to make the cab quieter. The Trakker quarry and construction vehicle, meanwhile, enables drivers to work on impenetrable, broken terrain, and tackle constant stresses with extraordinary performance. The Trakker comes with the Cursor engine for maximum power and durability. It offers top quality of life on board too, with two cab versions, Active Time and Active Day. According to IVECO, the Trakker raises “your productivity beyond all limits,” while further reducing Total Cost of Ownership (TCO) and minimising running costs. Whats more, the whole range is ready for conversion and ready for any mission. IVECO’s evolving medium and light ranges are also gaining a relevant role in the market and experiencing constant grow among UAE customers.

More attractive, versatile, efficient and manoeuvrable than ever: The Eurocargo boasts a new design and functionalities while maintaining and improving the essentials that have made it the reliable, robust and versatile vehicle of choice of half a million customers. In this continuously changing world and increasingly competitive market, the Eurocargo is the business partner – and companion – for everyone. Everything in the design of the Eurocargo is about functionality, comfort and efficiency. The Eurocargo renews its styling, introducing the modern and comfortable new cabin that has been entirely redesigned and offers new features. DECADES OF CONTINUING SERVICE As one of the longest-serving brands of vehicles, Mercedes-Benz Trucks’ location within DCV MENA’s office in Jebel Ali ensures it is close to business partners and customers throughout the region. Mercedes-Benz Trucks has a broad network of Authorized General Distributors with full service and sales teams in each of its 17 markets.

MERCEDES-BENZ TRUCKS M ercedes-Benz Trucks has had a strong presence in the Middle East and North Africa (MENA) region since the 1950s. Its Regional Centre was established in Dubai in 2001 as one of the first offices established within JAFZA (Jebel Ali Free Zone). In 2015, Daimler invested into an office dedicated exclusively to Commercial Vehicles. Mercedes-Benz Trucks is an integral part of Daimler Commercial Vehicles MENA (DCV MENA) and offers the densest dealer and workshop network in the Middle East and North Africa region. Together with its network of Authorized General Distributors, Mercedes-Benz shares a proud 50-year history in the Middle East and North Africa. A market leader in its respective

segments with products and services are benchmarks worldwide, Mercedes-Benz Trucks is a market leading full range provider. From the medium duty Accelo, Atego, and Unimog vehicles to the heavy duty Zetros, the all-new Actros and all-new Arocs trucks, Mercedes-Benz Trucks provides customers with the right solutions and right vehicles for virtually every truck application; this includes distribution, long haulage, construction, oil and gas, waste management, extra heavy-duty or extreme off-road. To enable its customers to experience a hassle-free service, Mercedes-Benz Trucks has launched Mercedes-Benz Service Solutions, which offers a wide range of service and maintenance opportunities, from the ‘Best Maintenance’ to the fullservice ‘Complete’ offer which can be

combined with extended warranties. All of these service offers contribute to a longer vehicle lifecycle, and allow customers to benefit from a lower cost of ownership, thanks to an increased vehicle resale value and lower service and repair costs. The latest generation of Actros and Arocs models are fitted with Mercedes PowerShift 3 fully automated transmissions as standard for fast, correct and precise gear changes. There are fully automated 12- and 16-speed transmissions as well as optionally available manual transmissions. This focus on choice for customers

also applies to the numerous assistance systems available for the Actros and Arocs: such as Proximity Control Assist, Lane Keeping Assist – the list goes on and on. The crowning glory is Active Brake Assist 4: this emergency braking system initiates maximum full-stop braking ahead of moving and stationary obstacles if needed and can therefore save lives. The system also warns the driver of any potential collision with pedestrians; triggering partial braking at the same time. Mercedes-Benz Trucks also offers a huge range of services and servicing offers for the new Mercedes-Benz Actros and Arocs model series, ranging from the Fleetboard telematics system to Mercedes-Benz Genuine Accessories and Mercedes-Benz GenuineParts. The service contracts provided by Mercedes-Benz Trucks are particularly

The facility is uniquely capable of testing the trucks at heavier loads and hotter ambient temperature and humidity conditions than any other Daimler facility, reaching temperature highs of 45 degrees Celsius and up to 100% humidity. Since opening towards the end of 2017,

the test centre team has completed 7 million test kilometres in Abu Dhabi. The last year has also seen the company successfully launch the all-new Actros and Arocs trucks in the market, offering a further enhanced level of reliability, efficiency, and robustness to the Mercedes-Benz Trucks portfolio. The launch campaign gained significant impact in the market, with the trucks revealed off the Dubai coast as “floating trucks” – a true first for the region and described as ‘The Region’s Most Extraordinary Truck Launch’ The successful event has subsequently been followed by several national launch events for the new product line-up throughout the region and a record number of the all-new Actros and Arocs have been sold. The rollout will continue throughout 2019 with Mercedes-Benz Trucks also looking to expand its customised service offerings in the year and offer bespoke-designed contracts to suit individual customer needs and demands for their specific applications. Safety has always been a central key element to the brand Mercedes-Benz. On a global level, it has increased the safety of its vans even further with the establishment of an in-house accident

research team to analyse accident data, and provide input in the ongoing development of its many active and passive safety systems. 2018 was an exceptional one globally, with some record-breaking performances from Mercedes-Benz Vans. Echoing the global performance, it has also enjoyed strong loyalty from customers in the MENA region with the business developing continuously across the entire Mercedes-Benz Vans portfolio. “We are pleased with our increased presence in the Limousine, Taxi and Airport shuttle markets as well as the leasing market. Overall, the people movers’ segment has grown rapidly and we are hoping this will continue in the future,” says Thomas Greipel – General Manager for Mercedes-Benz Vans MENA. Globally, business models have been changing and the rise of smaller businesses and e-commerce has led to an increase in demand for small- and medium-sized

delivery vehicles for last mile delivery. This presents a great opportunity for the new Sprinter as it offers customers in a diverse range of industries more specific applications than ever before. As its presence in the region grows, Mercedes-Benz Vans MENA is expanding its customer base by providing more enriched product options, primarily in the pure panel van and people mover segments. Overall, it intends to enhance its product portfolios, especially its downstream services, by introducing new products such as enhanced warranty concepts for certain markets and attractive service contract solutions. “With the launch of the third-generation Sprinter, we are continuing to develop our portfolio in 2019,” says Greipel before looking at the year ahead. “We aim to provide our customers a comprehensive product offering to meet all of their commercial and transport needs.”

A TRUE INDUSTRY PIONEER Volvo Trucks has become a pioneer within the trucking industry by producing enhanced solutions which benefit both drivers and fleet managers.

VOLVO TRUCKS V olvo Trucks arrived in the Middle East in the 1960s and the Volvo Group Middle East regional offices were opened on the 20 March, 2006 in Jebel Ali, Dubai, UAE. Since then the new facility has helped in strengthening supplies of spare parts, improve the competence of its retailers and dealers. The offices include a regional parts distribution centre and a regional competence development centre to train dealers in optimal machine usage and productivity through the use of Volvo’s Dynafleet system, site simulations and Volvo simulators and other tools. Volvo Trucks has cemented its position in the Middle East’s construction and long haulage industry through consistently and continuously driving progress and developing enhanced solutions that cater to both industry professionals and drivers. It currently employs 60 members of staff across the region with 35 dedicated staff The transport solutions offered by Volvo Trucks Middle East include a mix of

pioneering the latest product technology whilst enhancing customer’s productivity, allowing them to increase uptime and optimise service and maintenance for the duty cycle. It has become a pioneer within the trucking industry by producing enhanced solutions which benefit both drivers and fleet managers. Firstly, its range of Volvo trucks – the FMX, FH and FM – is highly advanced, offering a whole raft of innovative features to its clients. These include the groundbreaking Volvo dynamic steering, which delivers exceptional handling in all operating conditions. Secondly, its I-Shift’s intelligent electronics constantly monitor factors like road grade, speed, weight, and engine load to help keep the truck in the most fuel-efficient gear possible. This technology allows drivers the safest, most efficient, informed and comfortable driving experience possible. Finally, its Dynafleet fleet management system can reduce wear and tear whilst increasing safety, and maintaining profitability and fuel efficiency

which is essential for a successful business. Volvo Trucks provides customers with a number of service contracts (blue, silver and gold), the benefits vary from scheduled maintenance by certified Volvo technicians to 100% uptime guaranteed. The Volvo service contracts enable customers to keep on the road, reduce downtime and thus total cost of ownership, while improving operational control and boosting customers bottom line. In 2015, it also launched its comprehensive driver development programme to further educate professional truck drivers in the Middle East. The programme, which complies with EU directive results in safer drivers, lower fuel costs and a reduction in environmental impact for businesses. The UAE, Saudi Arabia, Oman, Egypt and other GCC countries are amongst the key territories for Volvo Trucks. With major construction projects such as Dubai EXPO 2020 taking place in the region, there will be a huge demand for its construction and long-haul vehicles moving forward. Both its Long-Haul range (Volvo FH) and

Construction range (Volvo FMX) are the most lucrative segments in the region. It is considered leaders in the heavy haulage segment where the Volvo FH accounts for approximately 70% of its sales. Having made an important contribution to development in the region, Volvo Trucks’ key benchmarks to date include the opening of a new CKD plant (AVI Arabian Vehicles & Trucks Industry Co. Ltd) in King Abdullah Economic City, Saudi Arabia in 2015. The plant is a joint venture between Zahid Tractor and Volvo Group with an assembling capacity of 4,000 Trucks in one shift and 7,000 trucks in two shifts. Secondly, its new I-Shift gearbox with crawler gears launched in 2016 and the updated automatic transmission makes it possible to add up to two new crawler gears. This means, among other things, that the truck can move off from standstill and transport a gross combination weight (GVW) of up to 325t. Offering an entirely new scope for trucks with automated transmission, I-Shift with crawler gears

makes it possible to start from a standstill in extreme situations, meaning the driver can haul a heavy load without worrying about getting into situations that may lead to costly standstills. Combining crawler gears with a suitable rear axle ratio that optimises engine revs at high speeds, results in lower fuel consumption on the highway. This is a significant benefit to haulage firms doing this kind of work. Safety remains paramount to Volvo Trucks and is also a key concern in the region with rising incidents of accidents in the construction/long haul industry and

on the roads. With safety also being a key focus of the UAE’s Vision 2021 and the National Transformation program in Saudi Arabia, 2018 saw the company contribute to the progress in road and fleet safety with the launch of its industry-leading and advanced safety features for the Volvo FH, such as the Headway Support System, Lane Keeping Support and the superlative Volvo Dynamic Steering system. Volvo Trucks will continue in 2019 to ensure that it provides its customers with all the tools to succeed, not only when it comes to the products, but also its truck parts, services and fleet monitoring programmes, while supporting its business partners and customers to optimise uptime and productivity.
