Tata Motors talks to T&FME about how the New Tata Prima is helping the Indian powerhouse deliver for fleets in the GCC
TIME FOR SOME GREEN FLEET ANSWERS
I’ve been struck time and time again about the lack of knowledge - anywhere - about whether it is a good idea to take your fleet ‘green’.
And by anywhere, I really mean anywere. Strip away Europe and its boosted funding into adoption of cleaner emission vehicles and very few people make compelling reasons to make the switch right now. Everyone can see they will have to at some point, but what if you need an excuse right now?
That’s why we’ve launched the region’s first event created for B2B and B2C professional fleets wanting to make the switch to new forms of mobility, those already on their journey to a greener future – and those still searching for an imperative to do do it. Clearly governments and authorities across the region are investing billions into green transportation helping to foster business and consumer demand for cleaner forms of mobility. This is potenially changing the business fundamentals of B2B and B2C professional fleets who must consider how they can adjust to this changing landscape. The Green Fleet Summit is a new kind of event that will gather car rental companies, fleet services and fleet owners of all forms of transportation and mobility services
to discuss how they can join others who have made the transition to being cleaner, greener and more profitable.
Debate will be encouraged and new benchmarks discussedm, but it will also provide practical advice in areas such as investment in charging infrastructure and route planning for vehicles.
And, uniquely, delegates will have the opportunity to experience and test the very latest electric and hybrid vehicles entering the market. By exploring the vehicles coming to the market delegates will able to determine which car, van or mobility solution is suitable for their business requirements. With COP28 around the corner, this is an event that will help companies managing their own fleet or relying on fleet services to understand how they can continue to evolve and what choices they should make to be competitive.
We want an event that cuts to the chase on behalf of professional fleets that are considering whether it is worth making the jump. We also want to bring together those that are already making their switch and the vehicles they are using. I’m reaching out to fleets, OEMs and mobility experts who can help guide the sector through this daunting but exciting time.

RO/RO REMAINS A BOTTLENECK
LOGISTICS
Project cargo and so called high & heavy goods account for a significant share of rolling cargo handling. But the capacities of the carriers are at their limits, says Ro/Ro specialist Transport Overseas Group (TO Group).
With short transit times and reliable schedules, car and Ro/ Ro carriers have always been a popular alternative for project shipments. But since last year, the capacities of the car carriers have become increasingly limited.
According to media reports (including Hansa‘s special issue on BREAKBULK EUROPE 2023), departures from Northwest Europe by the car carriers are fully booked eight to twelve weeks in advance.
With an 11% growth forecast of high & heavy and heavy-lift cargo volumes expected in 2023, TO Group is offering an alternative via its recently opened New Europe to Asia route via Bahri Line (the National Shipping Company of Saudi Arabia)
As the General Agent for Bahri Line for Northern Europe, a
spokesperson for TO Group said the firm’s clients will be able to rely on its expertise and ability to tap into its secured allocations on vessels. The advantages of using Bahri Line‘s Ro/Con vessels for your Ro/Ro, project, break bulk, heavy lift and container cargoes “are obvious,” added the spokesperson.
DELIVERY RIDERS HUB CAN ELEVATE CONDITIONS
DRIVER SAFETY
The Abu Dhabi Department of Municipalities and Transport (DMT) has launched a new pilot project called the Delivery Riders Hub which it says can improve working conditions for riders. Expected to be initially implemented in September 2023, the project aims to provide a suitable work environment for delivery bike drivers by allocating safe spaces with shaded waiting areas, comfortable seating equipped with air conditioning, and drinking water facilities. These provisions will help ease the hot atmosphere
during the summer weather.
The initiative has been developed in collaboration with government entities, private sector, and non-profit organisations, as part of the department’s efforts to enhance the public appearance of the city, improve the quality of life in the Abu Dhabi Emirate, and promote the Emirate’s status as a preferred global destination for living, working, and investing, said the DMT.
“The pilot project reflects the department’s commitment to enhancing the public appearance of Abu Dhabi city
and improving the quality of life and well-being of the Emirate’s community,” said H.E. Hamad Al Mutawa, Executive Director of the Planning and Infrastructure Sector at the Department of Municipalities and Transport.
“It aims to provide a suitable and motivating working environment for delivery drivers. By investing in improving the working conditions of bike drivers, we contribute to enhancing Abu Dhabi’s position as a smart and inclusive city for all.”
The initiative came following a number of interviews that were conducted with delivery drivers to understand the main issues and challenges they face during their work. The project will be implemented on street (E25) because it is one of the hotspots that are accessible for restaurants and cafes. The new hubs accommodate 10-15 individuals and were designed to be easily produced and assembled.
The project offers several benefits for the delivery motorcyclists.

Daniel MacGregor, Serco Middle East talks to T&FME about the advent of AV licensing in the UAE
News that Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al
Maktoum,Vice President and Prime Minister of the UAE and Ruler of Dubai, has approved the first national license for self-driving vehicles on the UAE’s roads to WeRide has been described as a sign that the UAE is positioning itself to be “at the forefront of the mobility revolution”.
Sheikh Mohammed used his Twitter feed last week that the leading L4 autonomous driving technology company will be the first national-level autonomous driving license in the Middle East and even globally.
With this license, WeRide will conduct various road testing and operations of autonomous driving vehicles in the UAE, he added.
“The recent news of WeRide receiving the UAE’s first self-driving license is a remarkable achievement that paves the way for transformative advancements in transportation,” commented Daniel MacGregor, Chief Growth Officer of Serco Middle East.
“It marks a significant step forward for the UAE in the field of autonomous vehicles, and we commend the government’s forwardthinking approach in embracing innovation, and creating an environment conducive to the deployment of self-driving vehicles.
Prior to receiving this national selfdriving license, WeRide’s Robotaxi had completed public testing and operations on certain roads in the UAE over a year. On June 29th, the Integrated Transport Centre (ITC) in Abu Dhabi announced that as part
of the Eid al-Adha holiday services, visitors to Saadiyat Island and Yas Island in Abu Dhabi can experience free autonomous driving car services, including a model called “TXAI,” which is launched in collaboration between WeRide and the locally listed company Bayanat.
“The announcement is a testament to the country’s commitment to driving progress and becoming a global leader in smart mobility solutions. By fostering an ecosystem that encourages research, development, and adoption of autonomous technologies, the UAE is positioning itself at the forefront of the mobility revolution,” added MacGregor.
“And, as a leading provider of essential public services in the region, we understand the immense potential and benefits that autonomous technologies can bring. This

groundbreaking development signifies the future of transportation. Autonomous vehicles have the potential to revolutionise mobility, making it safer, more efficient, and convenient for residents.
“By leveraging cutting-edge technologies, self-driving vehicles can significantly reduce accidents caused by human error, alleviate traffic congestion, and optimise resource utilisation. In addition, the integration of advanced sensors, artificial intelligence, and connectivity enables autonomous vehicles to navigate and interact with their environment, ensuring safe and efficient transportation solutions.”
WeRide has been actively expanding its autonomous driving products and services internationally, with the Middle East being one of its key focus areas. In March of this year, WeRide officially established its presence in the China-UAE Indurtial Capacity Cooperation Demonstration Zone, forming a local team to further accelerate the commercialization of autonomous driving technology in the UAE region.
MacGregor added: “In addition to the rapid progress in the UAE, WeRide has also achieved remarkable results in Saudi Arabia. In September 2022, WeRide showcased at the 2022 Global Artificial Intelligence Summit held in Riyadh, the capital of Saudi Arabia, and announced its collaboration with the Saudi Artificial Intelligence Company (SCAI) to launch the first dynamic robobus route in Saudi Arabia.
“We believe that partnerships and collaboration are key to unlocking the full potential of autonomous vehicles. As a company dedicated to providing innovative services, we are excited to leverage our experience in supporting innovative transport solutions that will shape the future of smart mobility in the region. By managing complex operations and ensuring regulatory compliance, we support the safe integration of autonomous vehicles into existing transportation systems.
“We extend our congratulations to WeRide on this significant milestone and commend the UAE for its visionary leadership in embracing cutting-edge technologies that support the region’s journey towards a smarter and more sustainable future.”
Sensing change
The brainchild of Tony Han, the former Chief Scientist of Baidu’s Autonomous Driving
Unit, WeRide has accumulated over 13 million KM of public road autonomous driving mileage in six years, forming a diversified commercialisation strategy for autonomous driving with “one platform + three major scenes + five major products.”
In addition to L4-level autonomous driving commercialised operational products represented by its autonomous Robotaxi, Mini Robobus, Robovan, and Robo Street Sweeper, WeRide continues to lay out advanced intelligent driving commercialised products at the L2+/L3 level of vehicle autonomy. It is collaborating with global top partners such as Bosch to make mass-produced advanced intelligent driving products mainstream and autonomous driving technology accessible to consumers.
During the at the 2023 CES event held in Las Vegas, the firm unveiled its latest generation of autonomous driving sensor suite, WeRide Sensor Suite 5.1 (WeRide SS 5.1). The system itself integrates a variety of sensors, including vehicle-grade high-resolution semi-solid-state lidars, side lidars, and high-precision cameras, to achieve 360-degree sensing with no blind spots within a straight line distance of 200m.
Through different configuration combinations, WeRide SS 5.1 can easily
achieve different levels of autonomous driving perception capabilities, from L2 to L4, with flexible adaptation to various driving scenarios, greatly reducing subsequent adjustment and maintenance costs.
The WeRide SS 5.1 roof sensor module adopts a streamlined “wing” design, which significantly reduces the impact of wind resistance caused by the sensor module during driving, and is closer to the design concept of mass-produced vehicles.
Apart from a comprehensive upgrade of the sensor hardware module, WeRide SS 5.1 has also made significant improvements to its in-car visual interaction system. The automatic driving system’s perception of the road environment is now fully upgraded and displayed on the in-car screen with a visual style that is more in line with popular cognitive habits. This allows passengers to have a clearer and more intuitive understanding of the current driving status of the autonomous vehicle, effectively enhancing the riding experience.
As a product that focuses on L3-level advanced intelligent driving, WeRide SS 5.1 is promised to deliver industry-leading performance of the autonomous driving core and full safety redundancy, as well as optimisation of power consumption and cost. This enables the new generation of WeRide SS to truly meet the market demand for large-scale production and have stronger scene-adaptive generalisation capabilities, claims the firm.
It marks a significant step forward for the UAE”STREAMLINED SENSOR SET-UP The WeRide SS 5.1 roof sensor module adopts a streamlined “wing” design, which significantly reduces the impact of wind resistance caused by the sensor module during driving, and is closer to the design concept of mass-produced vehicles.
GATHERING
PACE
The move to electric mobility is gathering pace among UAE motorists according to a new report from CARS24, which showed online searches for electric vehicles in the first half of 2023 have soared 60% compared with H2 of 2022.
The CARS24 Used Car Market Insights H1 2023 Report shows that electric vehicles (EVs) currently make up just over 1% of the UAE car market, but the switch to electric is clearly becoming a popular option with car buyers with the rapid rise in searches.
The movement aligns with the UAE’s drive towards electric mobility. Dubai recently announced plans to grow its electric charging station network by 170% by 2025, from the current 370 to more than 1,000. A report by Arthur D Little ranks the UAE 8th on the global readiness scale for electric mobility, while the improving
infrastructure and rising fuel prices have contributed to a rise in the number of drivers considering purchasing an EV.
“Increasing fuel prices and awareness about environmental impact have amped up the demand for electric cars, with sales expected to reach 15.07k vehicles in 2027. This growth coupled with the UAE’s vision towards a sustainable future with low carbon footprint has seen a rise in EV supportive infrastructure in the country,” said Abhinav Gupta, Gulf CEO at CARS24.
“EV demand is expected to grow 30% annually until 2028. Keeping that in mind, CARS24 has plans in the pipeline to provide full stack EV solutions to our customers, from procurement to refurbishment. With this market constantly evolving, our aim is to develop in-house expertise through our market analysis that will help us cater to the growing demands and hold a significant position in buying, selling, and servicing electric cars.”
Pre-owned perks up
Meanwhile, the CARS24 H1 report also underlines the strength of the UAE used car market and increasing popularity of pre-owned vehicles. According to the report, for every new car sold in the UAE, three pre-owned vehicles are purchased. Additionally, UAE’s increasing population, which is now around 10.2 million people, has increased demand for vehicles.
Subsequently, there has also been strong growth in the pre-owned car market, particularly among millennial car buyers (aged 25-44). Buyers within this segment have increased 20% in the first half of H1 compared with the second half of 2022.
There is a rising awareness among young consumers about the associated costs of owning a new car, with budget and trust in the auto retailer among key considerations when looking at pre-owned cars.
The switch to electric is clearly becoming a popular option with car buyers with the rapid rise in searches, says Cars24

A THIRD OF UAE RESIDENTS ARE FAILING TO LOOK AFTER THEIR CARS IN SUMMER
An alarming 28% of UAE residents fail to have their cars checked for the summer season, according to the recent survey. This oversight raises concerns as temperatures in the country soar to a scorching 50 degrees Celsius, with authorities and car manufacturers strongly advising owners to perform car safety checks before the summer season to ensure optimal vehicle performance and passenger safety. Audi Abu Dhabi has conducted a new survey aiming to shed light on vehicle safety for UAE drivers during the tough summer season.
Among the 70% who did prioritise car safety checks, the survey found that 35% opted for booking a service with their car dealership, followed by 21% who chose independent garages, and 14% who relied on quick services offered by petrol stations.
In response to the findings, Aftersales Manager at Ali & Sons Motors Abu Dhabi Jeff Stagg emphasised the critical importance of properly servicing the cars before the summer season, saying: “Cars endure the most demanding conditions during the summer in the Middle East. To ensure smooth operation in high temperatures, it is highly recommended to have the engine and AC systems serviced along with tyre checks given the increased risk of them bursting in the hot weather conditions.
Another concerning statistic from the survey indicates that 8% of drivers are uncertain about the appropriate actions to take when faced with an overheating car. Notably, 11% of those unsure fell within the 18-24 age group, with 4% in the age group confessing that they would resort to panic and dial emergency services (999).
“The UAE is one of the most dominant markets and the country’s pre-owned car category is expected to surpass a net valuation of $28.98 billion by the end of 2027. This segment is competitive but cluttered and we assessed that there was a big gap in the region for a brand that operated as one-stop shop for customers. With trust, service and quality being imperative, we created our ethos around these crucial drivers to elevate the entire journey of the ownership,” added Gupta.
More women drivers
The CARS24 report also revealed a rise in the number of female drivers interested in buying a pre-owned car. In the first half of 2023, the number of female buyers on the CARS24 platform rose by 15%, compared with a 13% rise in male buyers.

Concluding the report’s findings, Gupta, added: “It is encouraging to see the growth in the industry in the UAE. We have seen a shift in sentiment when it comes to buying used cars among consumers as they are now seeing the value of purchasing a pre-owned vehicle without compromising on quality. As a data driven business, we truly believe that to stay ahead of competitors, it is imperative to build trust, offer impeccable service and quality to not only understand consumer needs but to improve the overall ownership journey of the buyer.”
Meanwhile, the CARS24 H1 report also underlines the strength of the UAE used car market and increasing popularity of pre-owned vehicles. BEATING
THE HEAT
In the blistering heat of the UAE summer, a challenge lurks on the roads – one that not only puts the durability of truck tyres to test but also poses significant risks to both truckers and other commuters. The ever-present debris of worn-out truck tyres scattered across highways is a distressing sight that serves as a sombre reminder of the perils that lie ahead. As the tyres succumb to the relentless heat, the potential dangers they impose on trucks and oncoming traffic cannot be overlooked.
The World Health Organisation (WHO) reports a staggering annual toll of approximately 1.3 million lives lost due to road traffic accidents worldwide. This alarming statistic is further compounded by the fact that between 20 to 50 million people suffer non-fatal injuries as a result of road accidents. Such devastating
numbers demand immediate action and a renewed focus on road safety measures.
In the UAE, another challenge arises with the scorching heat of summer, posing hazards to truck tyres and drivers. The roads often bear witness to the aftermath of truck tyre debris, a common sight that poses dangers not only to the trucks themselves but also to oncoming traffic. As truck drivers brave the extreme temperatures, they endure difficult working conditions in their tireless pursuit to deliver goods and commodities to their destinations.
Regular tyre maintenance emerges as a vital strategy in ensuring road safety and maximising uptime for fleet owners.
Commercial vehicle wheels and components are critical for braking systems as well as bearing big loads by maintaining stability and control. Routine inspections improve safety
while also increasing profitability, particularly with off-road tyres and rims/wheels, which require repair by operators before each shift.
The Bridgestone Group is making significant strides in developing sensing technologies and systems by combining tyres and sensors. These technologies go beyond monitoring road conditions; they also provide essential tyre information, such as wear levels. By leveraging such innovations, Bridgestone continues its mission to support safe and secure mobility for all. As a global leader in advanced solutions and sustainable mobility, Bridgestone transcends the boundaries of tyre design and development. By addressing key customer challenges, the company pioneers the future of tyres. One of the most remarkable advancements is the concept of Airfree Tyres, reimagining tyres by eliminating the need for air.
Bridgestone talks to T&FME about ensuring drivers stay safe in the summer heat
Roads often bear witness to the aftermath of truck tyre debris”
This breakthrough technology eradicates issues related to air pressure maintenance and reduces downtime caused by flat tyres, particularly crucial for commercial fleets. Bridgestone introduced one of the world’s first Airfree systems designed to run on class 8 vehicles. Additionally, Bridgestone has set its sights on the rapidly growing electric vehicle (EV) segment, recognising the automotive industry’s transition to electric mobility. Bridgestone’s EV fitments are engineered with industry-leading sustainable technologies that cater to the unique requirements of EVs. Key innovations like TECHSYN help achieve better wear efficiency and reduced rolling resistance while minimising raw material consumption. B-Silent technology reduces tyre noise, ensuring sustainable and lightweight tyres. ENLITEN technology further enhances EV driving by reducing tyre rolling resistance and decreasing tyre weight, thus extending driving range while reducing environmental impact.
Addressing the issue of EV weight, Bridgestone collaborates with various car manufacturers to develop High Load (HL) tyres capable of supporting the increased weight of powerful electric and hybrid vehicles. Bridgestone’s commitment to electric mobility extends to providing Bridgestone OE tyres customised for EVs, demonstrating their dedication to the future of electric transportation. To support the automotive industry’s sustainability ambitions, Bridgestone has partnered with global EV manufacturers like Mercedes EQA and EQB, BMW i3, Fiat 500 EV, Nissan LEAF, and Volkswagen’s all-electric ID.3 and ID.4, among others. Embracing the spirit of innovation, Bridgestone further collaborates with innovative startups like Lightyear, the world’s first long-range solar-powered electric car, and Fisker, for the launch of the all-electric Fisker Ocean. Such collaborations with disruptive newcomers and established industry leaders demonstrate Bridgestone’s commitment to ensuring a sustainable future for the mobility sector.
Tyres, being the only parts of a vehicle in contact with the road, play a critical role in ensuring safe and steady driving. Information on road conditions becomes even more valuable during poor visibility, such as at night. Bridgestone’s pioneering technology, ‘CAIS™ (Contact Area Information Sensing),’ uses sensors attached to tyres to classify road conditions in real-time, providing drivers with essential data to enhance road safety.
Bridgestone’s innovation journey never ceases, continually adding value to
products and services through advanced mobility solutions. MOBOX is a prime example, offering a personalised tyre and car maintenance subscription service that allows drivers to continue their journey with ease and peace of mind. Beyond merely being a tyre company, Bridgestone provides holistic mobility solutions, including smart sensing tyres that utilise AI-powered algorithms to transmit critical data, predicting and preventing maintenance issues. Alongside this, new service tools make it easier to interact with Bridgestone and their expansive service delivery network.
Bridgestone’s dedication to road safety is evident through its campaigns to raise awareness and promote safety in the transportation sector. Collaborating with various organisations, it conducts tyre safety campaigns and health check-ups for truck drivers to ensure their wellbeing while on the road. The numbers from its campaigns speak volumes about the importance of raising awareness for commercial tyre safety.
In joint efforts with the Integrated Transport Centre (ITC) in Abu Dhabi, Al Masaood, and RoadSafetyUAE, Bridgestone rewarded and educated 150 truck drivers while checking 640 truck tyres. Such campaigns play a vital role in identifying issues like under-inflation, over-inflation, damages and missing valve dust caps, all of which have direct implications on road safety.
Truck drivers hold a pivotal role in society, diligently working long hours to deliver essential goods and commodities. The taxing nature of their job can lead to serious health implications. In light of this, Bridgestone MEA launched the successful ‘Eyes on the Road’ wellness campaign that encouraged 1,000 truck drivers to have a health check-up, placing check-up stations at truck stops along major highways in the UAE. During Ramadan 2022, the campaign continued, providing truck drivers with a wholesome experience during the holy month.
Road safety is a shared responsibility, and Bridgestone has collaborated with local partners in Qatar and Egypt, and the UAE, bringing the #CheckedbyBridgestone campaign to these regions. These safety checks encompass tyre, battery, wiper, and safety tool inspections, emphasising the importance of tyre maintenance and road safety in mobility. In conclusion, emerging technologies and innovation play a pivotal role in enhancing road safety and ensuring sustainable mobility for the future. Bridgestone’s relentless pursuit of tyre technology advancements, sustainability initiatives, and road safety campaigns make them a true industry leader. With a focus on innovation, collaboration, and commitment to societal well-being, Bridgestone continues to drive progress in the mobility sector, making our roads safer and our future more sustainable.

FEELING PUMPED
ABOUT SAFETY
Given how much focus is placed on drivers to ensure they are safe on the highway, it is often forgotten that there are many times when they are still in control of the vehicle and responsible for the safety of others.
Like it’s roads, the UAE’s fuel and petrol stations are busy hives of activity often with dozens of vehicles jostling for space and pump attendants rushing to keep the long queues moving. Most drivers, however, have never been told or instructed on how they should tackle this dynamic environment.
To that end, rhe Joint Committee for Security and Safety in the UAE has officially launched its fourth edition of the national awareness campaign for security and safety at petrol stations for summer 2023, under the theme “Five for Your Safety”.
Running until September 25, 2023, the annual campaign focuses on enhancing safety and security awareness among gas station users. It promotes the
adoption of correct protocols at service stations during fueling to safeguard both customers and service providers.
The joint committee comprises representatives from the Ministry of Energy and Infrastructure, the General Command of Civil Defence at the Ministry of Interior, and also draws major fuel players in the market such as: Emirates National Oil Company (ENOC), Abu Dhabi National Oil Company (ADNOC), and Emirates General Petroleum Corporation (Emarat).
As part of this campaign, the Ministry of Energy and Infrastructure, in collaboration with its strategic partners, is setting out to strengthen the UAE’s reputation as one of the safest countries in the world, in line with the nation’s vision for the next fifty years, “which aims to ensure the safety of citizens and promote sustainable development while placing the human element at its heart.”
The campaign has been designed to uplift safety and security within society and protect the lives of individuals — the cornerstone of
sustainable development. It seeks to mitigate the risks and potential damage that could arise from improper fuel filling practises.
The campaign will shed light on key guidelines, including adhering to a 30 km/h speed limit when entering the station, refraining from smoking, turning off the engine during fuelling, and keeping the vehicle stationary during the refuelling process to prevent hose dislocation.
HE Sharif Al Olama, Undersecretary of the Ministry of Energy and Infrastructure for Energy and Petroleum Affairs and Team Leader of the Joint Committee for Security and Safety, said: “The joint campaign is set to play a pivotal role in enhancing awareness and promoting social responsibility concerning security, safety, and the preservation of lives. We are optimistic that this campaign will resonate positively with the public and foster a comprehensive culture that not only safeguards lives but also bolsters safety within our environment.”
Underscoring the campaign’s role in supporting the government’s commitment
Driver safety on fuel courts becomes a question of community safety in the UAE
Safety stands as the cornerstone of our operations at petrol stations and is an area we are constantly developing and enhancing”
to social responsibility, Al Olama said, “This initiative reaffirms the government’s keenness to provide a safe environment for citizens and residents across the nations. It also reflects our vision to provide a sustainable and secure life for everyone.
“Given that fuel is an essential commodity for numerous sectors and individuals, its handling must adhere to safety rules and take necessary precautions to avoid potential accidents or risks. This is the core responsibility entrusted to our campaign.”
“Through our unified cooperation, we seek to broaden the campaign’s outreach and educate as many community members as possible about the significance of safety at petrol stations. It’s through these collective efforts that we aim to establish a safe and sustainable environment for everyone. We urge community members to actively participate in the campaign, abide by its principles and guidelines, take necessary precautionary measures, and handle fuel correctly. This way, we can ensure a safe and sustainable summer for all,” Al Olama added
For his part, Major General Dr. Jassim Mohammed Al Marzouqi, Commanderin-Chief of Civil Defence at the Ministry of Interior, stressed the Civil Defence’s commitment to boosting safety, prevention, and civil protection. By working together within a unified framework, we aim to strengthen the security of our community. As we move forward with our efforts to bolster community security, we recognise the crucial role awareness plays in proactive initiatives, largely due to their transformative impact on attaining strategic objectives.”
“Through the national campaign, we’re joining forces with other authorities to safeguard lives and property. Our comprehensive approach aims to not only raise awareness but also expand its reach within our target communities. In doing so, we hope to bring the UAE’s vision to life and enhance its distinguished reputation on a global scale,” Marzouqi added.
“Safety stands as the cornerstone of our operations at petrol stations and is an area we are constantly developing and enhancing in alignment with ADNOC Distribution’s vision for ensuring the safety of people and the sustainability of our business,” asserted Eng. Bader Al Lamki, Chief Executive Officer, ADNOC Distribution.
He continued: “We therefore attach great importance to joining the national awareness campaign, which allows us not only to educate the public about necessary safety standards at stations but also to equip them with essential safety tools and procedures, thus achieving the highest levels of quality and safety.”
Additionally, H.E. Ali Khalifa Al Shamsi, Director General of Emirates General Petroleum Corporation Emarat, said: “Accomplishing our HSE goals and objectives sits at the top of our priorities at Emarat. We are committed to adhering to professional guidelines, federal and international laws, as well as best practises, to ensure a safe and secure environment for our employees, customers, and assets throughout all our operations.”
“We firmly believe that our HSE objectives are just as paramount as our other core business objectives. As such, we make it our mission to ensure that our employees receive the best training in safety, security, and preventive measures on a regular basis. Our approach is bolstered by open communication and coordination with the relevant governmental agencies in the UAE, and we are in constant pursuit of improvements to existing procedures and security and safety systems.”

KINGDOM COME
Allison Transmission and King Long Mark link up for a Hajj fleet operation
July saw the end of, what has been described as, the largest Hajj pilgrimage in history and Allison Transmission and bus manufacturer King Long provided 40 buses to support this year’s fleet operations.
During the Hajj pilgrimage buses from the Chinese manufacturer served as an important mode of transportation within the country, helping to successfully navigate challenging conditions including the demanding journey between Aziziya and Arafat, which requires extensive start-stop operations. The buses also ensured a seamless connection between Makkah and Madina, further enhancing the convenience and comfort of the pilgrims.
Allison is renowned for its commitment to providing exceptional quality and comfort to passengers. Thanks to its advanced Torqmatic
Series transmissions designed specifically for transit and coach buses, Allison helped play a key role in facilitating the transportation of pilgrims during this year’s Hajj season. Of the 40 buses, 21 were allocated to a customer in Jeddah and the remaining 19 were designated for another in Madina.
The two firms said their successful partnership had supported the Kingdom’s objective of providing an exceptional Hajj experience to pilgrims.
“Allison Transmission is proud to have the opportunity to collaborate with King Long, one of the largest exporters of buses to Saudi Arabia, on this landmark project to meet the transportation needs of the Hajj season,” said Muhammad Ibrahim Khan, Area Manager for Middle East & Pakistan. “The King Long partnership is of utmost importance to us. Aligned with Saudi
Arabia’s objectives for this busy season, our aim is always to offer the highest standards of reliability, durability and comfort for the many pilgrims.”
Allison’s torque converter and Continuous Power Technology eliminate power interrupts resulting in a comfortable and smooth driving experience for both the driver and passengers. The fully hydraulic automatic transmission without mechanical clutches, has less wear and tear also on all parts of the drivetrain and therefore resulting in fewer costly breakdowns and repairs.
Allison, King Long and the bus manufacturer’s Saudi dealer have actively engaged in fostering a strong and mutually beneficial partnership since 2018. Allison’s exceptional service support, extended warranty options and close coordination with fleet operators in conjunction with the dedicated efforts of the King Long team have further contributed to the successful partnership.
