1. Wien Museum in der kaiserlichen Hermesvilla

Die Hermesvilla ist im Lainzer Tiergarten im noblen 13. Bezirk Wiens angesiedelt. Kaiser Franz Joseph hat diese Villa einst Kaiserin Elisabeth, der legendären Sisi, geschenkt – als „Schloss der Träume“. Er wollte seine reisefreudige Gemahlin damit öfter in Wien halten.

Von 1882 bis 1886 baute der bekannte Ringstraßen-Architekt

Carl von Hasenauer das romantische Schlösschen, dessen Name sich von der im Garten stehenden Hermes-Statue ableitet. Künstler wie Gustav Klimt und Franz Matsch gestalteten das kaiserliche Privatgemach. Im ersten Stock des Hauses können Sie zahlreiche original erhaltene Privatgegenstände des Kaiserpaars bewundern.

1. Wien Museum and the Emperor’s

Hermesvilla

The Hermesvilla is located in the Lainzer Tiergarten in the posh 13th district of Vienna. Emperor Franz Joseph once gave this villa to Empress Elisabeth, the legendary Sisi – as a “castle of dreams”. He wanted to use it to keep his wife, who loved to travel, in Vienna more often.

From 1882 to 1886, the well-known “Ringstraßen” architect Carl von Hasenauer built the romantic palace, whose name is derived from the statue of Hermes in the garden. Artists such as Gustav Klimt and Franz Matsch designed the imperial private chamber. Schloss Hof, der vormals kaiserliche Landsitz von Prinz Eugen von Savoyen und Maria Theresia, ist mit rund 70 Hektar Österreichs größte Schlossanlage auf dem Lande. 2. Prince Eugene’s Schloss Hof

Schloss Hof, the former imperial country residence of Prince Eugene of Savoy and Maria Theresa, is Austria’s largest country palace complex with around 70 hectares. The imperial living quarters can be admired in the stately castle. Outside there is a magnificent baroque garden with magnificent fountains and sculptures. In addition to the imperial castle, there is an idyllic manor, a variety of themed gardens and many rare breeds of domestic animals to explore, such as the adorable white donkey. 3. Orientalismus und schillernde Luxuswelten

Es funkelt und glitzert ab dem Juni 2023 im MAK – dem Museum für angewandte Kunst am Stubenring 5 in Wien. Mit „Glanz und Glamour. 200 Jahre Lobmeyr“ wartet eine atemberaubende Ausstellung, die schillernde Luxuswelten in Form von fantastischem Wiener Kunsthandwerk zeigt. Ebenfalls im MAK ab 21. Juni: eine weitere Sonderausstellung zur Wiener Weltausstellung 1873. Im Fokus steht der Trend zum Orientalismus des 19. Jahrhunderts, den die Weltausstellung beflügelte. Versprochen sind exotische Welten und eine damals ungekannte Formensprache, die die westliche Welt stark inspirierte.

It sparkles and glitters from June 2023 at the MAK – the Museum of Applied Arts at Stubenring 5 in Vienna. With “Glitz and Glamour. 200 Years of Lobmeyr” awaits a breathtaking exhibition that shows dazzling worlds of luxury in the form of fantastic Viennese handicrafts. Also in the MAK from June 21: another special exhibition for the Vienna World Exhibition of 1873. The focus is on the trend towards Orientalism of the 19th century, which the World Exhibition inspired.
