LOVE YOUR PLANET!

Gill Sherry

W

e all know February is the month of love. Saint Valentine’s Day is celebrated annually on 14th February, a day historically associated with love and the time to embrace matters of the heart. But why not do something a little different this year? Instead of spending money on the commercial gimmicks associated with Valentine’s Day, why not do something more worthwhile? It’s easy to buy a bunch of ridiculously priced red roses but they’ll probably be dead within a week and let’s face it, it’s not exactly original is it? Hopefully, your loved ones know exactly how you feel about them without the need for an overpriced gesture dictated by legend and myth. Your planet, however, is less convinced of your love and devotion. Your precious, beautiful, fragile world is feeling abused, neglected and damaged. Never has it been so vital to express your love for the environment and to protect it from climate change. Your planet is not asking you to spend money on pointless cards and trinkets this Valentine’s Day; it’s merely asking you to stop and think about how you are treating it and to make small changes towards a better world. It’s no longer possible to ignore the threat and impact of climate change. Sea temperatures are increasing, ice bergs are melting and weather is becoming more extreme. Wild fires in Australia have dominated news headlines and climate activist, Greta Thunberg (voted Time Magazine’s Person of the Year 2019), has inspired millions to take action. Granted, we can’t all take a year out to attend conferences and challenge political leaders, but we can be more energy-efficient and learn to love our planet. Start by changing your attitude to energy. Unplug computers, laptops and other electronic devices when you’re not using them. Switch off lights. Wash

your clothes in warm (not hot) water. Hang-dry your clothes instead of using a tumble dryer. Change to energy-efficient light bulbs and control your airconditioning with a timer to avoid unnecessary use. Your eating habits can be more climate-friendly too. Food wastage is a huge problem in Kuwait so avoid ordering and buying in excess and try to eat more meat-free meals (start with a meat-free Monday and see where it leads). Embracing a plant-based lifestyle is good for your own wellbeing as well as benefiting the planet. Reducing the amount of processed food you eat is also recommended. Where possible, switch to organic produce or, even better, grow your own! And remember to take your own bags to the supermarket – cutting down on plastic should be on everyone’s agenda. Another problem in Kuwait is traffic pollution. Walking is not always possible in extreme temperatures but car sharing is certainly viable. And next time you upgrade your car, consider switching to an electric or hybrid model. Fast fashion is particularly damaging to the environment. Textiles are a key source of greenhouse gas emissions so think about changing the way you shop or, better still, stop shopping altogether! Try taking a month off from buying new clothes. It’s reassuring to know that you’re not only saving money, you’re saving your planet too. Alternatively, if this is one step too far, search for sustainable brands. And, if you really must buy that new dress, jacket or shirt, make sure you wear it at least thirty times. Everyone knows that ‘R’ is for ‘red’ on Valentine’s Day but this year, give a thought to the other three Rs: Reduce, Reuse, Recycle. Your planet will love you for it. www.cpmagazine.net

THE THING ABOUT

LOVE Nadia AlHaroon

20

DECEMBER 2020 FEBRUARY 2019

nadia_omnia enquiries.nadia@gmail.com

As we all know, Valentine’s Day is a celebration of love and to remind our partners and show them appreciation by a nice dinner or a gift or some other sort of gesture. Many love this certain day, but there are also many that are against it and believe that love should not be confined to one day. There are also many that feel sad around this time of year because they do not have anyone to share it with and when February 14 creeps in, they feel more lonely than ever. I remember one Valentine’s Day when I had no one to share my Valentine’s Day with, I felt so lonely. The thoughts of “why can’t I find anyone to love and love me back?” surfaced and all the other questions that come up on the day where love should be celebrated. After feeling sorry for myself and a bit of meditation, I was able to look deep within myself away from the emotions that tend to cloud my judgement and what the voice within told me is something has stayed with me, and will stay with me forever.

“Valentine’s Day is a celebration of love. Love is an energy. It can be passed on to others, but only when we hold love within ourselves.”

Love is so simple, but we tend to complicate it. When we say something like “love hurts”, that is because we are hurting inside. We tend to look for love on the outside world, but you will only find true love within you. If you are in a relationship where you do not feel at peace, or by yourself and do not feel at peace then the conclusion of this is that you have inner work to do. Love is effortless and is something that is shared freely and unconditionally with everyone. Whether it is a partner, a family member, a friend or even the person who walked passed you in the street. In order to receive love we need to be love, and in order to be love we need to love ourselves fiercely. In order to raise your vibrations and to get into the right track of loving yourself, start by writing a list of everything you love about yourself. I am not talking about the physical attributes, but more of the things that lie within you that form the way you are as a person such as your love to help others, or your dedication towards your job. After writing this list, write an affirmation that you will recite daily to yourself in front of the mirror as soon as you wake up aloud. It needs to be related to self-love, so it can be something like “I choose to love myself as imperfect as I am, and I choose to give love to all close and far.” And recite this for 21 days.

If You Want to Go the Extra Mile… Some during this process start to become emotional and face an influx of emotions. If this is you, then a bit of meditation will help immensely (you can do it too if you want to strengthen your experience to be love and receive it in the purest form). I would suggest a meditation for 5 minutes and to ask yourself the simple question “what do I need to do to be filled with love?” and keep on asking this question silently with your eyes closed, while giving yourself time to process the question. The answer may not necessarily come after the first meditation. It might take a week or longer for the answer to come, depending on when you are ready to receive the answer. The answer may come during one of the meditations or it may come in some different form, like something you read randomly, or a sentence someone says or even an incident. Let Valentine’s Day be a reminder that in order to give and receive love in the purest form, we must allow ourselves to be love. When we can be love, we will see love in everything and everyone. Yes, Valentine’s Day is a celebration of love, but all forms of love so do not limit on who you decide to share your affection with on this beautiful day, even if the person is you. www.cpmagazine.net

THE BEST OF EATING AND SLEEPING ON THE GREEK ISLANDS Latifah Al-Hazza

Greece has become a popular destination for many tourists over the years. Well known islands such as Mykonos and Santorini take the spotlight when it comes to islands to choose from. In 2019, Mykonos and Santorini saw a combined tourism rise of over 20%. Although the two islands are gorgeous and worth visiting, don’t skimp on a few other, lesser-known, islands that have a lot of charm as well. Sleeping accommodations and foodie finds are key in making a memorable vacation. Below are the best of eating establishments and sleeping accommodations on Mykonos, Santorini and two other islands that you shouldn’t miss.

MYKONOS

24

Sleep Here: Myconian Utopia Relais & Châteaux

Eat Here: Pavilion at Myconian Utopia

Just minutes away from the longest beach on Mykonos, Myconian Utopia is one of the most exclusive getaway resorts on the island. You will feel like you walked into an interior design magazine at Myconian Utopia. Handcut stones, custom furnishings and sustainable design materials blend together in harmony to create the ultimate playful, bohemian setting. In addition, the hotel not only has a magnificent infinity pool, but guests also have the option of booking a room with a private infinity pool.

It’s very rare that I recommend a restaurant inside of a hotel, but it’s hard not to recommend Pavilion’s exceptional menu, staff and ambiance. With spectacular sea views, a rich menu and an extensive wine list, guests can’t go wrong here. A few recommended dishes: Grilled octopus with warm potato cream, pickled red peppers and rocket pesto; Spinach tagliatelle with shrimps and fresh tomato sauce with lemon verbena; Seabass fillet with wild greens, portobello mushroom cream and homemade herb gnocchi.

FEBRUARY 2020

SANTORINI Sleep Here:

Imerovigli: Remezzo Villas Pyrgos: Carpe Diem

Nestled on the cliffside of Santorini, Remezzo offer breathtaking views of the island’s mountainous coastline, volcano and stunning sunsets. Opt for a room with a private outdoor hot tub to enjoy the views from the comfort of your room.

This extremely exclusive resort is the perfect getaway from civilization. With only ten rooms (all which have a private pool) and a gated entrance, don’t expect to see anyone other than guests and the staff walking around. This is a great place to finish an intriguing book and for peace and quiet.

Fira: Athina Luxury Suites Perched on the cliffside of the caldera and just minutes away from the town of Fira, Athina Luxury Suites is truly an ideal place to stay in Santorini. Although guests can select a room with a private hot tub, the hotel’s pool is not to be missed. With lounge chairs built into the pool, bar stools and a swim-up bar, Athina is truly a paradise. Exceptional staff and room delivered breakfast options help to make it a memorable experience.

Eat Here: Canaves Oia Petra Restaurant Located in Oia, where is arguably known as the best place to see the Santorini sunset, Petra outdoor restaurant is a must while on the island. Recommended dishes: Langoustines Risotto with almonds and cherries; Ravioli with blue crab and caviar; Honey Ryder cocktail. www.cpmagazine.net

MILOS

Sleep Here: Villa Eva

Eat Here: Gialos

It’s a shame that Milos is an often-overlooked island as it has some of the most beautiful beaches in the world. Stay at this famil- run AirBnB and you’ll feel right at home. The spacious villa has four bedrooms, a pool, a bbq set, a cabana, a patio and a large garden. The owners are beyond hospitable and are always there to give recommendations and to accommodate in every way possible.

This is the right place to go for the freshest seafood in all of Milos (and arguably all of Greece). With a setting right on the waterfront and next to the chaos of the town, this is a perfect place for an incredible dinner. No recommendations here as you can’t go wrong with everything on the menu!

After receiving my Bachelor's in Marketing, I am now a Fashion Editor of CP Magazine, a social media manager in the private sector, a social media blogger, as well as being the owner of @Jazz_Boutique and Jo-Spa beauty salon.

Describe your personal style? I'm more into comfortable casual looks, with some additional accessories and shades that will boost up the look.

One beauty tip that you live by? Less is more. You don't need to wear so much make-up on a daily basis. And drink plenty of water. Your favourite style icon? Karen Wazen.

Describe the process you go through to pick what is in and to create your monthly content. I read and keep myself updated on fashion trends and what's new. I always choose what Middle Eastern girls could wear, as well as what they may want to be fashionable in.

Who are some of your favourite designers now? Louis Vuitton, 16arlington, Natasha Zinko, Prada and Christian Dior.

Do you have a theme for each issue? Yes. It all depends on the upcoming fashion season, the month, and whether it's Ramadan.

Your go-to outfit? As a mom, I always prefer something comfy but stylish! I would go with leggings or a boyfriend jeans statement, as well as a t-shirt and blazer fashioned with sneakers and accessories.

What fashion predictions do you foresee for 2020? Colour denim, platform shoes, bra tops, big bags, safari utility, puff sleeves and Disco collars.

Dr. Lama Jalouk Cosmetic Dermatologist and Laser Therapist at Aesthetics by King’s College Hospital London Dubai.

ALL YOU NEED TO KNOW ABOUT PRP FOR SKIN REJUVENATION Going natural is trending, and the aesthetics industry is fast catching up. Add that to minimal downtime after an aesthetic treatment and you have a win win. One of the most loved natural aesthetic treatments is PRP therapy, short for Platelet Rich Plasma. PRP therapy has been the go-to treatment for faster healing of wounds for decades. Used on its own, it can work wonders, but if combined with other skin treatments, the benefits triple. The results become more notable, while the downtime is cut by half. That said, what do you know about PRP for Skin Rejuvenation, and what other treatments can it be combined with? Below I’ve dove deeper into this aesthetic treatment that not only rejuvenates but can turn back the clock.

What is Platelet Rich Plasma? PRP is not that new of a treatment in aesthetic medicine. The therapy uses one’s own blood plasma to stimulate cell growth, tissue repair, new collagen and elastin production. This Platelet Rich Plasma takes more than 50 percent of our blood’s volume, and it is filled with growth factors that stimulate stem cells.

How it works Once a vial of blood is collected from the patient, the doctor or physician uses centrifugation to separate the concentrated platelets from the rest of the blood. The concentrated plasma, which is now the platelet rich plasma, is used to rejuvenate the skin, either on its own or by combining it with other treatments.

34

FEBRUARY 2020

Skin Treatments Combined with PRP 1. Microneedling with PRP Microneedling is a skin rejuvenation treatment that works by delivering controlled and targeted micro-injuries to the skin. Immediately, the skin starts a repair process to heal these injuries, and as a result regenerates more collagen for this process. This collagen regeneration increases the elasticity of the skin hence drastically reducing sagginess, fine lines, and acne scarring just to name a few. Combined with PRP (Platelet Rich Plasma), Microneedling speeds up the healing process while at the same time rejuvenating the skin and shaving years off the target area. The PRP for face rejuvenation at King’s is boosted with Hyaluronic Acid to enhance the hydration effect. 2. PRP and Fractional Laser Fractional laser is another skin rejuvenation treatment that is known to have a downtime of at least a week. During the procedure, the laser creates micro-wounds on the skin. After they are inflicted, these tiny wounds stimulate collagen production which immediately tightens the skin. When PRP is introduced to the treatment, it increases the production of the collagen and speeds up the recovery by significantly reducing the downtime. The increased collagen stimulation augments the skin, which leaves it smoother with an improved texture, healthier and younger-looking.

Benefits of Using Platelet Rich Plasma 1. PRP is a natural aesthetic treatment simply because it’s derived from your own body. This means that the chances of an allergic reaction or rejection are very minimal.

3. PRP for Hair Loss Treatment Growth factors that are found in the Platelet Rich Plasma are vital when it comes to hair loss treatment. They aid in the strengthening of androgenic miniaturized hair follicles, which as a result prompts them to produce new and healthy hair, which gives way to a robust growth of hair. The PRP tube for hair loss treatment at King’s has Biotin to boost anti-fall effect.

2. It is fairly safe. PRP has been in use since the 1970s for medical purposes especially when it comes to wound healing in sports, and it is highly recommended because of its natural elements. 3. Provides overall rejuvenation for the skin, even on hard-to-reach areas like dark circles. 4. By stimulating the generation of collagen and elastin for the skin, it gives dull, dry and lax skin new life. 5. The results of a PRP treatment are long-lasting. Although it takes a few sessions, about 3 depending on what you want to rejuvenate, the results can last for up to two years. This also depends on the patient’s lifestyle.

All the above treatments are specifically available at King’s College Hospital London, Jumeirah branch. www.cpmagazine.net

WRITING MOVIE

STAR WARS: THE RISE OF SKYWALKER Directed by J.J. Abrams | Written by J.J. Abrams and Chris Terrio

L

ike it or not we have arrived to the ending of a saga that started back in 1977 when George Lucas delivered what would become one of the largest franchises in all of history. When Disney acquired Star Wars from Lucas it was of course a guarantee that we would see films cranked out regularly. This final trilogy set is a mixed bag for most fans. I fall on the side of ‘not a fan’ of this trilogy. Poor writing, retconning of Star Wars canon and then retconning the retcon is just horrible. No real single theme or even a villain that is in a word, whiney and underdeveloped as a character. I get the angle of Rey and being a female protagonist is great to showcase gender equality in the force. Wonderful, but with no many plot holes and just simply poor writing on display here it is hard to pinpoint the path of least resistance to fix a mess of a film such as this.

Here come the spoilers.

As the previous two films established, Rey is strong with the force and nobody know who her parents were. A hint was given when Luke sensed the power within her in The Last Jedi. A lot of reversals form that film were done by the writers to try to smooth out the mess made of the franchise. In the end toy sales are going to be fine, and this film will not NOT do well at the box office. IT is simply just not a great film. Bringing back Palpatine was sort of a wonderful way to bowtie the previous two trilogies together, but seriously how did he keep himself alive this long? I think an explanation with a flashback showcasing his powers with the dark side in achieving life after death would be very important here. Furthermore, I would have written in a descendant of Obi Wan in this film to plant a seed of more powerful 42

FEBRUARY 2020

Jedi’s existing alongside Rey. Also that would be a neat way to tie into the upcoming Obi Wan series. Yet here we have Kylo and Rey tracking down these beacons to find Palpatine who threatens the galaxy. First off I would not have leaked Palpatine being back. I would have held that under tight wraps. I would also not have had him revealed so early on. Have Kylo get to the throne room, but cut away when they meet to keep who he met a secret till the end of the film. Show him being manipulated with voices in his head and him trying to keep his thoughts secret from Palpatine and internally struggling with this. Adam Driver is a solid enough an actor to have portrayed this struggle in his head and resisting the urges of the voice to kill Rey. Second I would have Rey in the forest when she was training be visited by Luke’s force ghost. Finally at the end of the film have multiple force ghosts teaching her the ways of the force as she takes up the title Rey Skywalker. This would have brought back a HUGE missed opportunity for the film to bring back every force ghost to include Yoda, Anakin, Qui Gon, Obi Wan, to Luke and Leia. Such a big missed opportunity here to give the fans a great scene and bring it all back together. I wont go into other details as this film was just simply all over the place figuratively and literally. A mess of a two hour and twenty two minutes of film. One thing is for certain, Disney has much more planned for Star Wars and hopefully we can get better writing in future films. Thanks for reading ‘Writing Movie ‘WRONGS’.

BEYA KHALIFA

“My collages don’t take themselves too seriously. They look at the world with humour and a sense of wonder.”

Born and raised in Cairo, Egypt, Beya Khalifa weaves together different, and often absurd, worlds with the use of collage - digital and physical. Her collages serve as a visual examination of the human condition and its relation to the universe, often through quirky or satirical narratives. Her work exists in a perpetual state of surrealism and phantasmagoria, almost like a daydream come to life. Beya’s collages utilize antique photographs layered under digital graphics to combine kitsch, orientalism, fantasy and history into a seamless investigation of the absurdity of daily life. Photography: Paul Roßler

44

FEBRUARY 2020

Representing the jarring dichotomy some Arabs struggle with in terms of identity fragmentation, her recent work has diverged and is now split between Western and Arab aesthetics and issues. Think of each collage as a portal into a multitude of worlds: surreal, phantasmagorical, and in a bizarre sense, reflective of the world we are currently living in. In each collage, characters prod their way as giants or as lilliputian through space and earthly terrain, subverting traditional power dynamics between man and nature - and between man and man.

Some collages demonstrate the grand and the universal, while others more specifically try to reconcile the past with the present, as is the case with the ‘Orientalism’ series. In it, we see historic photographs of various Middle Eastern tribes and cultures collaged with ancient geometric patterns found throughout the Middle East, critically touching on themes of orientalism, identity and post-colonialism in surreal and whimsical settings. www.cpmagazine.net

BRUSSELS WEEKEND ARCHITECTURE

A

s the first of a short series of ‘Weekend Architecture’ trips, choose Brussels, the historic capital city of the European country Belgium for your visit. A quick and inexpensive couple of short flights away from Kuwait or Riyadh, Brussels is a getaway destination which feels further than it is and brings that getaway feeling which feels like a week when in fact it is for three days ! Refreshing, yes, cool, yes and in the winter much more so, to enjoy the chilled streets to explore this tightly knitted gem of deep history. 56

FEBRUARY 2020

Firstly, where to stay, for a weekend an hotel is the thing, no hassle with owners and keys and deposits and kitchens, straight in, ideally central where you need to be, and as historic as the city. Brussels has it, spot on, the old, almost ancient, city centre Hotel Metropole. The rooms are newly and magnificently decorated, antique furnished, large windowed, and wallowing in soft comforts with details of design contemporary with its age. Superb. The sometimes creaky floors and elderly elevator exposed in the midst of the stairwell are a fabulous feeling from the long gone era of the unique and the unusual. Love this place, admire its details, luxuriate in its embrace, experience

the cafĂŠ restaurant with elegant indoor and outdoor (heated) seating, and the grand breakfast hall. The Hotel Metropole added for this winter, a spectacular exhibition of wildlife photographs from Africa. Many events will be coming. Your other world weekend will truly be beginning. Central Brussels is walking territory, very needed after the far too sedentary existences in the Arabian worlds. You can walk and walk. Look everywhere. Small alleyways, ancient paving, multitudes of European shops, palaces, splendid houses, exquisite roof tops, a crescendo of gargoyles, pinnacles, turrets, dormer windows, masonry, brick artwork, stoneworks. Your eyes will feast on the fabulous, spectacular, regal, glamourous, surroundings. This is the other world. Time travel in architecture. Becoming hungry, as you imagine these days on your feet ? This is the next level of the experience awaiting. Restaurants. Cafes are for the afternoon ; restaurants to be lavishly enjoyed later in the day, abound on nearly every street. The test of good eating is to not choose your restaurant. Just go in, order without deep thought, eat with wonder and excitement. Central Brussels will not let you down. Time, your weekend, will pass too quickly, will enthuse your travel for the next trip, will bring you special memories and fine experiences. And, before moving to your next weekend, and if you wish for European nightlife, a suggestion to check, the Spirito Nightclub!

MASERATI STARTS TESTING ITS FIRST 100% ELECTRIC POWERTRAIN

ً‫تطبيقا‬

I

mplementing its plans for the electrification of its range, as previously announced, Maserati has started the testing phase of its new full electric propulsion systems that will equip the future models of the Brand. Some experimental vehicles have now been built equipped with the new innovative powertrain, 100% electric with 100% Maserati technology, developed at the new Innovation Lab in Modena. During this experimental phase, the sound that will characterise the electric engine will also be developed. The next full electric models will have a distinctive signature sound, already a unique attribute of all Maserati cars equipped with traditional combustion engines. Customers will therefore benefit from 100% electric propulsion vehicles that will combine driving pleasure, comfort and performance with a unique and unmistakable sound. Thanks to the tests conducted in various conditions of use on both road and track, important data will be acquired for the development and definition of the new electric powertrains, which will be used for future models in the Maserati range. The new Maserati GranTurismo and GranCabrio will be the Brand's first cars to adopt 100% electric solutions and will be built at the Turin production hub.

HOROSCOPES (March 21 - April 19)

(July 23 - August 22)

ARIES

LEO

You’ve been traveling a long road, and your journey is leading you to the top this month. You’re in the public eye—personally and professionally— and in demand socially. Be authentic and lead by example and you can automatically gravitate toward your tribe. As Venus enters Aries on February 7, practice self-care and love yourself better and you can attract, create, and be open to receiving what you desire. The next day, the Leo full moon highlights a creative situation and matters of love, romance, and the heart. You can have what you want if you dare to acknowledge it. Mercury stations retrograde and Mars enters Capricorn on the sixteenth, marking a peak professional moment. You may secretly have doubts about the future of a (perhaps professional) situation, but you needn’t doubt yourself. You have what it takes and the support of partners who want you to succeed. Reflect on your ambitions, soul vision, and mission. Don’t be afraid to let go of aspirations you’ve outgrown so you can step into your potential. You needn’t reveal all your secrets, but stay true to your integrity.

(April 20 - May 20)

TAURUS As February begins, you’re in a new professional cycle, making powerful connections that can further your ambitions. But Venus enters Aries on February 7, drawing you inward to clarify a vision and deepen intimacy with your secret desires, fears, and your true self. On the eighth, the Leo full moon draws your attention to home and family matters. Rise above insecurities and regain inner confidence as you reach for the stars. Also, Mercury is in shadow phase, suggesting there’s more than meets the eye in a social situation. As Mercury stations retrograde and Mars enters Capricorn on February 16, a conversation with a friend or information you learn suggests that you keep your perspective. Be careful about who or what you believe and trust. Not that anyone is necessarily being deceptive, but people have their own agendas. Remain aligned with long-term goals and a spiritual mission. Then you can deepen relationships that share your path and will go the distance with you.

(May 21 - June 20)

GEMINI You’re on a journey as you enter February. You could be physically traveling or metaphorically expanding your horizons personally, professionally, and in a relationship. You’re free to explore your options, but as Mercury enters Pisces on February 3, reflect on what success means to you as you clarify an ambition and your long-term goals. The Leo full moon on the eighth brings important information to light, revealing the way forward. Be open-minded and reach for your most optimistic vision. On February 16, your ruling planet Mercury stations retrograde just as Mars enters Capricorn, bringing powerful changes professionally, financially, and in your intimate relationships. Consciously examine and redefine your relationship with authority. Release conditioning around power, sex, commitment, and authority. Also, dig deeper for your values. What will matter after all is said and done? The sun enters Pisces on the eighteenth, followed by the Pisces new moon five days later. They mark a fresh start professionally and a second chance at an opportunity you thought had passed you by.

(June 21 - July 22)

CANCER As you enter February, there are powerful changes unfolding in a financial situation, intimate relationship, or a situation that has had you on edge. You have a lot to gain emotionally and financially, but remain detached. On February 8, the Leo full moon brings a chance to reclaim your power. You don’t have total control, but you do hold an ace. Let go of ego battles. Invest your time, money, emotions, and energy in alignment with your values and you can transform a situation. Also, Mercury is in shadow phase. It would be ideal to sign or finalize documents, travel plans, contracts, and visas in the first half of the month. Mercury stations retrograde on the sixteenth, bringing potential detours. Double-check all documents and communications, and stay openminded about delays. Mars enters Capricorn, also on February 16, heating up relationships. Avoid unnecessary conflict, but don’t be afraid to stand your ground if necessary. As long as there is mutual respect, you can learn from, lean on, and strengthen formidable bonds.

70

FEBRUARY 2020

You’re in a new relationship cycle, moving to the Leo full moon in your sign on February 8. Passions are rising, and this is an emotional but powerfully heart-transforming moment. Don’t be afraid to acknowledge how you feel, but remain detached in an evolving situation. Also, Mercury is in shadow phase and enters Pisces on the third. It’s important that you strive for clarity in all communications, especially those involving sex, money, and commitments. You could be negotiating joint finances, taxes, contracts, or a marriage or intimate relationship. You will be revisiting conversations and negotiations later in the month, but it would be ideal to sign important contracts and arrangements before February 16, when Mercury stations retrograde. There’s information surfacing asking you to reevaluate recent and significant financial and intimate commitments. Honesty and transparency will be key to negotiations. This is a chance to clarify arrangements so they offer teamwork and support and work better for everyone involved. Expect life and work to be busy. If you take on too much, you’ll build resentment. This means learning to ask for help. People aren’t mind readers.

(August 23 - September)

VIRGO As you enter February, you’re in a new cycle of your work, health, and daily routines. You have a lot on your plate. Prioritize your life, starting with your health, and give to what matters most. Also, learn to delegate and ask for help when you need it or you’ll end up feeling resentful. Significantly, your ruling planet Mercury enters Pisces on February 3, drawing focus to all one-to-one relationships—personal, business, colleagues, and others you interact with daily. Also, Mercury is in shadow phase, suggesting you’ll be revisiting current conversations. In all interactions, be mindful and seek depth, transparency, and clarity. Avoid assumptions and doublecheck communications. The Leo full moon on the eighth is drawing you inward to rest, recharge, and reflect on the greater purpose of your life and soul vision. Mercury stations retrograde on February 16, and you’re learning information that’s giving you pause. The sun enters Pisces on the eighteenth, followed by the new moon in Pisces five days later, ushering in a new relationship cycle. This is a powerful turning point, allowing you to reclaim your authority in a financial or intimate situation and deepen lucrative and loving connections with powerful equals.

(September 23 - October)

LIBRA As you enter February, the sun and Mercury are in Aquarius, sparking desires and creativity and drawing you to take a chance on your heart. This means embracing the quirkier parts of yourself and those desires you don’t always acknowledge or express. Venus enters Aries on February 7, shifting your attention to your relationships, followed by the Leo full moon the next day. You can have what you wish for, but you have to dare to acknowledge it. Love and accept yourself and it will be easier to deepen heart connections that love you for who you truly are and offer you the security and freedom you desire. Mercury is in shadow phase this month, so clear communication will be key. Also if you have purchases or agreements to make, do it before Mercury’s retrograde station on the sixteenth. It could cause possible communication breakdowns, e-mails or information might slip through the cracks, or there could be inconvenient issues to deal with. You can only do your best. Be mindful, strive for clarity, double-check communication, and be patient as you clear up a messy situation, literally or figuratively. Consciously release what isn’t working and drains your time, energy, and mental health. Get clear on your priorities and you can make healthier choices moving forward.

(October 23 - November)

SCORPIO You’re focused on home, family, security, and domestic matters as you enter February. On February 8, the Leo full moon brings a professional situation to light, asking for balance. Reflect on your growing ambitions, and don’t be afraid to let go of the ones you’ve outgrown. This isn’t just about success but also about your ability to be authentic and feel secure enough to let your inner light shine. Mercury stations retrograde on the sixteenth, the same day that your ruler Mars enters Capricorn, asking for a deeper process of reconnecting with your inner child, truth, and heart’s desire. If you’ve been in denial about something, this is a chance to be brutally honest with yourself about what you want and how you feel. On February 23, the Pisces new moon invites you to take what feels like a risk, emotionally, romantically, creatively, and/or in a matter dear to your heart. No matter what the past was like, stay in the present and you’ll begin to see the infinite possibilities in a situation.

(November 22 - December)

SAGITTARIUS As you enter February, you’re having conversations and learning information, revealing options. You’re free to explore them, but at the Leo full moon on February 8, you’re nearing a moment of truth. Reflect on a long-term goal and your most optimistic vision for your life. Then you can make wise choices that take you further along a chosen path. You can have the freedom and security you need and gain the support of partners. But Mercury is in shadow this month, and it stations retrograde on the sixteenth, highlighting domestic partnerships and arrangements. This could be with family members, a partner, housemates, or property and rental agreements with landlords or tenants. If you have important contracts to sign, it would be best to get it done before the retrograde. During the retrograde, you’ll have a chance to revise and renegotiate arrangements so they work better for everyone involved. If unexpected expenses arise, trust that you also have the depth and resources to take care of whatever comes up. Start by cutting out unnecessary expenditures that drain your resources.

(December 22 - January 19)

CAPRICORN You’re focused on matters of finance and your closest commitments as you enter February. On February 8, the full moon in Leo highlights matters surrounding joint resources, all contractual relationships, taxes, inheritances, and an intimate relationship or marriage. You have more to gain than lose, and you’re in a safe position financially and emotionally. Remain detached, let go of your ego, and you can ease a transition. Mercury stations retrograde on the sixteenth, giving you a chance to revise and renegotiate contracts and arrangements so they work better for you. Mars enters your sign on the same day, and you have all the firepower. But pace yourself so you don’t burn out, and avoid giving in to pressure. There is no urgency, and you might forget something important if you rush. With Mercury retrograde in your communication sector, be thoughtful and mindful, because it could be easier to slip up or suffer misunderstandings or miscommunications. If you have doubts, ask rather than make assumptions or project onto a situation.

(January 20 - February 18)

AQUARIUS You’re in a new personal cycle, and there are profound changes unfolding behind the scenes. Next month, Saturn enters your sign for the first time since 1991. This is a chance for a final confrontation and a chance to clear subconscious blockages that limit your growth. On February 8, the Leo full moon brings significant partnerships to light. You can have the freedom as well as security you desire in your relationships. Acknowledge how you feel, what you want, and your hopes and dreams, but remain detached and avoid expectations. Mercury is in shadow and stations retrograde on the sixteenth, highlighting finances and close commitments. It would be advisable to make major purchases or sign contracts while Mercury is direct. Also on February 16, Mars enters Capricorn, bringing a shift in the energy, causing you to reevaluate important personal and financial commitments. If you aren’t sure who you can trust, trust your intuition, and keep your cards close to your chest. You needn’t share your business with the world. Keep people on a need-to-know basis.

(February 19 - March 20)

PISCES You’re in an introspective phase as you enter February, with the sun in the most hidden sector of your chart. Venus is in Pisces, suggesting you can attract what or whom you desire, but first you must clarify a vision. Mercury enters Pisces on February 3, and you’re ready to talk. You’re learning that partners are on your side, but be clear about what you want, or it could be easy for misunderstandings to occur or boundaries to be blurred. Venus enters Aries on the seventh, followed by the Leo full moon the next day, bringing a work or health situation to light. Life is busy, and you don’t have all the answers, but make time to move inward to rest and reflect as your next steps are revealed. With daily attention and TLC, you can heal yourself or a situation. On February 16, Mercury stations retrograde and Mars enters Capricorn. A social situation is heating up, your powers of manifestation are running high, and something you’ve desired is within reach.
