Love it! What's readily available, comes in hundreds of colours and is free? Paint swatches! Rather than using a traditional artist's colour wheel, this octagonal rainbow card features a stitched pattern for a truly unique and interesting concept.
Turn decorating into a game by spinning the wheel to determine what colour a room should be! For a quick card, fashion swatches into a simple house shape instead. With bold sentiments and bright colours, these cards are sure to be winners!
A NEW HOME
Punch a 2.5cm circle in black card and a 1.6cm circle in white, then glue the white circle onto the black. Mark and punch a hole through the centre, then repeat with the arrow.
Copy a triangle and arrow from the pattern pages. Lay the triangle onto a paint swatch, moving it around until you are happy with the layout, then draw around it and cut out using a craft knife. Repeat with seven different swatches. Assemble the triangles onto white card to make an octagon, then use double-sided tape to hold them in place. Sew around each triangle, then trim the excess white card. Cut an arrow from white, then mount onto black and trim, leaving a narrow border.
Punch a hole in the centre of the octagon. Adhere the punched, layered circle over it, lining up the holes. Fix the arrow to the octagon with a brad. With the fold at the top, mount the octagon onto a white square blank, 15cm, so that one of the sides lines up with the fold. Cut away the excess card. Print or stamp a sentiment, adhere to black card, then trim and attach to the blank.

WE’VE MOVED Trim a pink, lime and turquoise swatch so they all measure 3.5cm, then matt next to each other onto an A6 blank. Create a sentiment on white card and adhere to the bottom of the blank. Copy a house template from the pattern pages and place it onto a blue swatch, then draw around it and cut out. Fix to the right of the blank above the sentiment. Snip a simple banner shape from a yellow swatch, then attach the top-left of the blank. Glue a button tied with bakers twine to finish. CB

“Complete the set with a matching bracelet and ring” “THIS COLOURFUL SET WOULD LOOK WONDERFUL WORN WITH A WHITE SUMMERY OUTFIT” Linda Jones, Designer
BUTTERFLY PENDANT Brush over the surface of a butterfly image with watered-down PVA glue. Once dry, place the paper under something heavy to press. You only need to complete this step if using an inkjet printer image, as it will prevent the colours from smudging when lacquered. Trim and adhere the image to balsa wood using PVA glue, then cut out using a piercing saw. File the edges if they look uneven. Colour the sides and back of the wooden piece with permanent black marker. If desired, embellish the butterfly design with black.
Create a small decoupage butterfly as before. Attach a length of chain to each side to the length required. Create a fish hook clasp and add a matching orange bead to the wrapped loop. Make a decoupage butterfly as before, but without adding links to the wings. Using 0.7mm iron wire, make a ring shank and attach the butterfly to it. Alternatively, glue it to a ready-made ring finding.
Create two double-ended circular stemmed links with a pink miracle bead in the middle of each. Attach to either side of the butterfly. To make a suspended bead cage, cut 20cm of 0.7mm iron wire and create two spirals on each side of the length with pliers, curling in opposite directions like an ‘S’ shape.
From iron wire, create two stemmed spirals for the antennae, plus two circular stemmed links for suspension. Using a pin, make holes in the sides of the unit. Add glue to the ends of the links and antennae and put into position.
Continue winding the wires around to form two tight spirals, one on top of the other. Fold the spirals in half, then stretch them apart, separating the coils. Push an 8mm yellow bead into the centre of the coil and arrange the wire back around the bead.
Once you're happy with the design, apply lacquer or varnish to the surface. Seal each side with several coats, letting each coat dry before applying the next.
Suspend from the top link into one at the base of the butterfly. Connect each side of the necklace onto 2mm black coloured cord, creating coiled crimped findings out of wire. Create a fish hook
clasp, adding an extra 6mm miracle bead to the back of the necklace.
TRIO OF BUTTERFLIES Create a large decoupage butterfly in orange and two smaller ones in blue, then link together with jump rings made from 0.7mm wire. Thread beads with wire and create links at each end using round-nosed pliers. Connect to each side of the necklace. Cut black chain to the desired length for the sides and attach to the bead links. Create a fish hook clasp from wire and add beads to match the colours of the butterflies to the back of the chain. CB
