t’s no secret that I am obsessed with my pets. My pug, Dolly and French bulldog, Martha are frequently the recipients of handmade gifts from me and my friends (more people attended Dolly’s 9th birthday than my own this year) and so I think it’s high time we gather some crafty ideas so you can follow suit! Green scene
Guest Editor, Camilla Westgaard from folksy.com The trend for all things botanical has taken root pretty much everywhere. Succulents and ferns are so popular that fern tattoos, macramé plant hangers, greenhouses, elaborate flower arrangements and other botanical offspring make daily appearances in our social feeds. Their status as a defining theme for 2017 was secured when Pantone announced Greenery as the Colour of the Year and, for jewellers, they offer endless possibilities. Leaves, fronds and flowers can be etched into surfaces; seed pods can cast their intriguing shapes and almost otherworldly forms in metal (Caroline Frodsham does this to great effect in her Pods & Plunder jewellery range); while dandelion seeds and other real flowers can live forever in resin (this still feels a bit like magic). It’s a trend that can be adjusted to suit your style too. If you’re a jeweller making your name from statement pieces, you can go bold with florals, layering flower heads and incorporating clashing colours. Minimalists meanwhile can take inspiration from forms and textures. It moves with the seasons, from pretty florals in the summer to fallen leaves and acorn cups in the autumn. To see how far the trend can go, have a look at the living jewellery Susan McLeary makes as Passionflower. She works where floristry and styling meet, creating elaborate jewellery and headpieces from growing plants and succulents. Her pieces may fade with time, but the trend for botanical jewellery will continue to bloom. Silver Snowdrop Dangle Earrings, £19.50, Pods & Plunder, folksy.com

New names to know
Susan McLeary aka Passionflower A floral designer and artist based in Michigan in the US, Susan creates unusual, boundarypushing jewellery made from living plants and succulents. Her work has attracted a lot of press and is much sought after by brides looking for unique wedding jewellery. Be sure to follow her on Instagram!
Charlotte Whitmore Jewellery
Lana Butters, Wishes on the Wind
Charlotte makes beautiful silver jewellery based on flower heads, seeds and ferns, occasionally mixed with flashes of colour. Look out for her allium brooches and studs: “Alliums are by far my favorite spring flower, with their large, spherical heads on tall, thin stems.”
Christopher Kane may have earrings embedded with real pansies in his Resort 17 collection, but Lana Butters has been working with real flowers for years. As Wishes in the Wind she makes forget-me-not keepsake lockets, simple moss pendants and bespoke pieces from customers’ own flowers.

My treat this month...
I'll let you into a little secret: I loved the 1980s, with all the shoulder pads, the big hair and the music. For my birthday, my lovely husband bought us tickets to see – wait for it – Rick Astley. It was lovely to listen to all his new tunes, but the best bit was Never Gonna Give You Up. He still does the dance – what a treat!

CRAFT OF THE MONTH
I
t’s that time again, when family, friends and colleagues ask us crafty types to help with decorations for upcoming weddings. It could be favour boxes and gifts, paper flowers for the tables, or personalised bunting. For anyone with a cutting machine, such as a ScanNCut, this is a fabulous craft for June. The Cutting Craftorium Romance 2 USB will help you make the most amazing projects, such as a four-foot dovecote and a three-foot horse and carriage!
Hot Product My Craft Studio has been given a new lease of life with an animal-friendly arty release. The graphics program, which is celebrating its tenth anniversary, has launched a Bree Merryn series with stunning illustrations of wildlife and domestic creatures, and Bree is thrilled to be bringing her designs to the crafting community. FAVE THING!
Playing with die-cuts and alcohol pens is always fun, but it's especially lovely outdoors in the sunshine. Kurecolor Fine & Brush pens are nice and juicy; I love the soft brush for blending, while the fine nib makes easy work of detailed areas. Not forgetting a Sakura white gel pen, which is the perfect way to add highlights.
Look what I made!
This sweet card, with its soft, chalky colours, was easy to put together. I used the Lace Inset Stepper concept card die set for the layering, sentiment plaque and rosette, and the Nested Rectangle Plaque die set for the Charlotte and Tilly topper. Change the sentiment, and this is perfect for birthdays and other events.
