Sandra Booth, center, and Friends

from Sweden she just had to let us know! She shared a fantastic reunion luncheon with her friends of 30 years, Patrik Johansson, Yvonne & Daniel Edelsvard and family in February. “It was their first visit to CRCC and they fell in love. Server Aly took care of us. She was fantastic.” We love to hear these stories!

Blackberry jasmine iced green tea is now being served. Sit for a spell and enjoy your tea. Less caffeine and more antioxidants!

When does “Off-Season” start?

we open and share our own homes with friends and family, it is our goal to welcome and treat our guests with open arms and a comfortable familiarity. Members enjoy sharing “their Club” experience with family members who come to stay for the holidays, visitors that fly in for a weekend of sunshine, business associates who appreciate a leisurely luncheon and long-time friends. We spend precious little on advertising because our Members and their word of mouth are our best marketing. In fact, each and every guest is a potential member-to-be. Case in point, Member Sandra Booth had such a wonderful experience with her friends

Cheers to your health!

Our off-season begins the first Monday in May. Golf, Clubhouse, Locker Areas, Men’s Grill and Carousel are all closed on Mondays until November. Look for hours of operation notices.

Vision 2020 Updates We are entering the planning stages of our golf course restoration project. Look for email updates throughout the process.

Let us park your car… During the warm weather, you may not want to search for a parking space and travel in the heat. Our valet is always complimentary but cash tipping is allowed.

Can our kids’ friends attend Summer Camp? Absolutely! Camp is always more fun when kids are with their friends. Non-member kids often become Member kids!

Lovin’Spring Tennis Live Ball Phenomenon!

Women’s Valentine’s Day Doubles Round Robin

M E M BE R S

Love was in the air and competition was on the courts! Players came out in their Valentine’s Day attire. When the competition ended, first place was captured by Liz Connor. Second place went to Rebecca Stoll. A big thanks to all participants who made this a sweet event.

A R E

raving about our newest live ball program! In fact it has become so popular that we have expanded to three sessions. What exactly is live ball? It is a fastmoving, intense workout and social doubles program. The ball is “live” and rarely stops moving! In regular tennis, the serve buys players recovery time. In live ball, an instructor or pro feeds the ball, quickening the pace. If you lose a point, you don’t walk back to the baseline because the next ball is already in play. We offer three ability levels and divide the players over three courts based on their level. Mondays 6 - 7:30 pm Advanced Level (Women 4.5 & up/Men 4.0 & up) Wednesdays 6 - 7:30 pm Intermediate Level (Women 4.0 & up/Men 3.5 & up) Fridays 8:30 - 10 am All Levels Please call the Tennis Shop to sign up, space is limited.

Valentine's Day Round Robin finalist, Rebecca Stoll and winner, Liz Connor

Monday, May 28, 10 am Come out for a fun round robin with prizes being given to the winners. Teams stay together throughout the event. Sign up at the Tennis Shop.

Nature’s Gift: A Golfer’s Paradise

TENNIS EVENTS

about our smooth, rolling greens. Jay Boring, Director of Golf Courses and Grounds and his team work tirelessly manicuring, aerifying, verticutting, over seeding and irrigating our course to create the magnificent conditions that Members enjoy. But let’s not forget

Great blue heron grace us from time to time

the lush, tropical surroundings of trees and plants plus the wildlife that also call Coral Ridge their H.O.M.E. From the beginning, Robert Trent Jones purposed that this course would include a “very attractive, park like appearance” with plantings that “emphasize the features of the grounds.” It is the character and the beauty of Coral Ridge that enhances the game. We can’t be 100% sure, but it appears that a few of our palms were part of his original landscape plan! ➤

The hardy ixora, bright pink oleander and the fire bush

Although trees on a golf course can be problematic (they are an obstacle for golfers and a source of concern for maintenance), no one can argue that well-placed and interesting foliage add to the beauty of any golf course. We lost many trees in the 2005 hurricanes, but CRCC still boasts a variety of palm trees (coconut, sabal, the stately royal, queen, adonidia, robellini or pygmy date palms, traveler palms, and the great white bird of paradise) in addition to live oaks, southern pines and gumbo limbo trees. At the very center of the course, no one can miss the majestic floss silka trees towering over the lake adjacent to Hole 16 creating a Shangri-la like oasis effect. Adding color to the landscape, there are numerous flowering shrubs like the ixora, native fire bush (that dot the cart path between the fairways to Holes 1 and 9), oleander, bougainvillea, plumbago, jatropha, the bright orange bird of paradise, purple showers ruellia and the fragrant confederate jasmine adorning the wall outside the ladies locker area. Ornamental grasses like the native fakahatchee, muhly grass and variegated blueberry flax lilly add a textured feature.

WE OFTEN HEAR COMMENTS

Walls of podocarpus and clusia create attractive borders while our ficus hedges are being phased out because of the ongoing white fly epidemic in south Florida. Green island ficus has become a new and popular low bordering shrub. With our expansive natural environment, it’s no surprise that we attract more than just snow birds! Birds of all kinds have found sanctuary at Coral Ridge. Besides the common cardinals, robins, orioles, blue jays, mourning doves and the very busy woodpeckers (you can see their ‘beak work’ on several of the older coconut palms!), keep an

Red-bellied woodpeckers leave their mark

eye out for red tail hawks, white and blue heron, osprey, the great egret, and white ibis (known as the University of Miami mascot and with their curved beaks–they are also great aerifyers!) Around the lakes you will see the occasional not-so-pretty mascovi ducks, iguanas, turtles and if you pause on the bridge at Hole 16 you can see the koi and grass eating carp which help to keep the lakes stay healthy. If you are finishing your round at dusk, you may spot a fox, possum or raccoon! Next time you play, you can be the welleducated golfer who can help others to appreciate the paradise we all call home!

Club Event Reservation Policy Special club events, wine dinners, Saturday night seafood buffets and holiday dining are popular events that sell out and require the purchase of special food and beverage products, equipment, entertainment, etc. Last minute un-replaced cancellations (including changes to the party number) are unfair to those Members who are turned away due to full capacity and cause the Club to incur unnecessary expenses if the reservation is not replaced. As a result, the Club must exercise a firm enforcement of the special event and holiday dining policy. • At the time of making your reservation we will charge your account 100% of the event price. • Please let us know if you have other Members dining with you, so we may contact them. • You may cancel 7 days prior to event, without being charged. • If you cancel less than 7 days prior to the event, you will have to pay 100% of the event price. Note: Should there be a wait list and we are able to fill your reservation less than 6 days prior to the event, your account will be credited in full.
