Small Goole business offering wea
and support goes national during Our monthly feature on one of the winners of this year’s Goole & Howdenshire Business Excellence Awards continues with our focus this month on Yorkshire Born Yorkshire Fed, which offers weaning information workshops, ideal for parents of babies aged three to eight months Sessions are run in community venues across Yorkshire. Workshops for groups of mums can also be delivered from the comfort of your own home, ideal for a group of mummy friends. Our Goole chatted to Sophie Ross-Briggs from Yorkshire Born Yorkshire Fed, which was crowned the winner of Innovative Business of the Year. The winner of this award had to have the best overall business product or service demonstrating creativity and innovation. When was the business set up? The business launched on Yorkshire Day (August 1st) 2018, and was initially set up as a baby food business, providing fresh meals with local Yorkshire food to support busy parents. It
Page 6
soon became clear that many new parents were bamboozled with weaning and all the conflicting information available online. This is where our weaning workshops began; sharing years of expertise and knowledge on how best to wean your baby, making the process as simple and enjoyable as possible. What services do you provide? We provide weaning advice and support for parents, teaching them everything they need to know about introducing solid food to their little ones. We offer this in groups sessions from public venues, i.e. soft plays and child-friendly coffee shops, and we also deliver sessions for groups of mummy (and daddy) friends, as well as follow-up support via our private Facebook group.

aning advice
g lockdown What makes you proud of your business? I love the way it has evolved and I have helped so many families. I feel proud to have made my business work and grow while working from home with two kids under three as a full-time mum! Did you enjoy your night at the awards? The business awards was my first (and only) ‘night out’ since having my little girl Liberty. I was lucky enough to be on the Filplastic table and had a throughly enjoyable night. How did it feel to win Innovative Business of the year? I was shocked! To be up against such big names and fantastic businesses, I couldn’t believe such a small business could win! What makes you stand out? I am really passionate about infant feeding. I worked for the NHS for 10 years and my speciality was working in the children’s centres delivering and training staff around healthy eating and weaning, so I have a great deal of knowledge and experience. Our workshops
acknowledge that there are guidelines around weaning, however, we also value that every child and family is different and try to empower women to make informed decisions rather than tell them what to do. What are your plans for the upcoming year? Whilst I have been on Maternity Leave I have managed to take on five trainers who are delivering weaning workshops over Yorkshire. With the lockdown we have moved our session online so have accidentally gone national, and have even had someone book on from Canada! We were just launching our new Weaning Party, which will be for children aged six months plus and will cover fussy eating and trying new things. It will include lots of tasters - but obviously this can only launch when we can see people face to face. We are also launching an online Vegan Workshop. I hope to continue with the online sessions, but also can’t wait to get back to my amazing venues. For more information visit the company’s Facebook page @YorkshireBornYorkshireFed

E PERSPECTIVE: Last month we executed drug warrants at Eastgate Flats and Chiltern Road, Goole with five people being arrested for possession with intent to supply Class A Drugs. This is as a result of you telling us what’s going on and what matters to you in your community. We really want to make a difference in the long term, therefore, we are continuing to work with partners including East Riding of Yorkshire Council to make the area safer and stronger. This includes serving notices to seek possession of properties linked to crime and anti-social behaviour and a process of ensuring those with a history of such behaviour are not allocated properties in Eastgate Flats in the future. We have the support of our proactive task force Operation Galaxy. Anyone with information about drugs being dealt in their community can call us on 101 and report their concerns. Following the recent HumberTalking survey undertaken in Eastgate Flats, we
are working closely with East Riding of Yorkshire Council to tackle the issues you told us about. This is only part of the work we have planned, if you have any information that will support this community priority please call Humberside Police on 101 or East Riding of Yorkshire Council on 01482 393939 or alternatively Crimestoppers on 0800 555 111. OTHER NEWS Goole Policing Team is still encouraging everyone to follow the Government guidance. For this reason we will not be holding any more engagement events with our communities for the foreseeable future. Whilst we love seeing you, these events are non-essential in the current circumstances. You will still see us out and about as we continue to do our job and keep our communities safe. As always there are a number of ways you can get in touch with us if you need us. For incidents that don’t require an immediate response call our non-emergency 101 line. You can also report nonemergency crimes online via our reporting portal. In an emergency always dial 999.

Over the last few months schools may have been shut for many children, but there have still been many projects children can get involved in to ensure they are learning
Goole Youth Action is a charity which promotes positive activities for young people in Goole and organisations supporting young people come together to plan. New Life Support and Revive Church are right at the heart of this collaboration. In Goole the partnership aims to put young people at the centre of planning, organising and leading the way for their peers. Goole Youth Hub is a project run by New Life Support. Our Page 14
Goole chatted to volunteer Liz Green to find out more about what the team has been up to. Liz told Our Goole: “The aim of New Life Support is to improve the lives of young people across Hull and East Yorkshire. Resources are targeted at young people aged 11–25. The charity runs alongside the vision of Revive Church and our Goole youth workers are usually based in our popular Goole Youth Hub at Revive Goole, Mariners Street. “Our coordinator Steve Green is an experienced youth work professional having led
work in Hull and East Yorkshire for over 25 years, he can still win at pool and table tennis! All our youth workers receive regular training, are DBS checked and will always be wearing their ID badge. “In Goole the focus for the summer has moved to our youth workers going out and about into the town, rather than the young people piling into our building for pool, table tennis, Xbox, karaoke, positive activities, food and holistic support. “Detached youth work involves

making voluntary contact with young people and positively influencing their lives by engaging them in informal social education, which is fun, exciting and challenging. Due to Covid–19 we have done some new training to take our youth support and encouragement out on to the streets and parks in Goole for the foreseeable future. “Conversation will include introductions, listening, encouraging and sign-posting young people to information, advice and other opportunities they can engage in. This gives the team a great opportunity to hear what type of activities, community opportunities, learning and support young
people would like to see in the town over the next few weeks, months and years. “As a faith-based project our workers will talk and pray with young people about their lives as the conversation arises. We use the Revive Church building and many of our youth workers are Christians. We get to know young people, their interests and unique talents and find the young people of Goole have great ideas, thoughts and questions about the world they live in. As we chat during a game or whilst eating pizza the learning and encouragement flows both ways. “Holiday hunger during school holidays has been in the news a
lot, we are planning on making some lunches together in July and August, more information to come. Food-based activities are popular in the youth club, including smoothies, toasted sandwiches, pitta bread pizzas. “Over the years we have seen young people who have attended youth work become volunteers and employed by New Life support. This brings enthusiasm and fresh ideas into the work”. We are looking forward to some exciting times working together. Fore more information and how you can get involved, please email support@revivechurch. co.uk or visit ‘Goole Youth Hub’ on Facebook.

PROPERTY PAGES Property expert David Leake of Housesetc gives his advice on what you can do to make your property appeal to as many potential buyers as possible
How to make your property stand out in the market There’s no doubt that moving home is up there with life’s most stressful events. Not only is there the emotional and physical upheaval to deal with, there’s the legal complexity, admin marathon and uncertainty around whether you’ll actually cross the finish line that can leave nerves feeling frayed. You can get a rough idea of what properties in your area are selling by using OnTheMarket. com’s quick online tool. You can then get on with organising a valuation and choosing an estate agent. Max your property’s appeal Once you’ve chosen your agent, it’s time to make your property as appealing as possible for prospective buyers. Doing that before you have any photographs taken will obviously mean your property will look its best in marketing materials. A few areas might need a lick of paint. Perhaps a bit of decluttering and clearing is in order. Put yourself in a buyer’s shoes.
Page 18
2. If you’re lucky enough to have one, stripe your lawn. Cut your lawn every three or four days if you’re on the market. Ensure the garden is tidy and trim, and the patios and terraces scrubbed and swept. If you spend £500 on it, it’s well worth it. 3. Give the floors a spruce-up. I’ve started advising people to replace carpets that are outdated, faded or worn. It improves the photographs and helps with the overall presentation. Make the most of viewings Top tips include cleaning the windows and letting in as much light as possible in the day. And think about what lighting you want for viewings in the evening so that your home feels cosy and appealing.
Here are three top tips:
You also need to consider who’ll be there when people come to see your home. Children and pets can be a distraction. It might be best for you not to be in, too, so viewers feel free to explore.
1. Give your property kerb appeal. Make sure the visible front elevation of the house, including the approach, the front door, the soft and hard landscaping, is immaculately presented.
In spring, the market generally blossoms. But with the summer holidays out of the way, the children going back to school and winter not yet at the door, mid-August to the end of October is a sweet spot for sellers.

This month, the Jobcentre gives advice to those who are looking for work or employers advertising jobs during the coronavirus pandemic, explaining the top online recourses to help you find a job
Our support to employers, claimants and individuals during COVID-19 During the coronavirus pandemic, the Jobcentre would like to encourage claimants to continue to prepare and look for work where it is safe to do so These are difficult and uncertain times, however, new jobs are being created daily and employers are advertising a variety of roles. Retailers have announced tens of thousands of new jobs in response to the coronavirus outbreak and claimants are encouraged to explore these opportunities and others where they are able to do so. In addition, the National Careers Service (alongside a number of leading employers and educational establishments) has developed a new online skills platform, The Skills Toolkit, which encourages and supports the public to develop their digital and numeracy skills as an opportunity during the outbreak to upskill for current or future roles. Cross-government advice remains to stay at home unless it is safe for you to work. The Skills Toolkit will develop the
skillsets of those who are unable to work now, so that we can have a stronger recovery in the future.
