A Farewell to Mrs. Diana Johns We are sad to say goodbye to our esteemed Honorary Advisor, and friend, Mrs. Diana Johns. As wife of the Commander, Air Mobility Command, General Raymond Johns, Mrs. Johns has been an inspiration to us all, and her past three years at Scott AFB will leave a long-lasting influence. Although we realize that changes of station and retirements are part of our military spouses’ lives, the time of farewell to our friends is never an easy one. With General Johns’ retirement, it is with regret that the members of the SOSC say good-bye to Mrs. Diana Johns. As our Honorary Advisor since her arrival here at Scott AFB, Diana has opened her home for the Tour of Homes, board meetings, and has given wonderful items to the SOSC Trivia Night Auction. Diana has given her time and experience in guiding and assisting those of us whom have had the privilege of serving with her on the board. Her kind words of appreciation to the outgoing board members, as well as her encouraging remarks to the new ones, will long be remembered. This tribute to Mrs Diana Johns would not be complete without expressing our sincere gratitude to her for sharing her time, talents and energies to the many families she has touched throughout their military career. Godspeed to you both as you enter the joy of retirement. We wish you blue skies and tail winds.

TH R IFT S HO P NE W S The Thrift Shop is now excepting fall and winter clothing. They will start excepting Christmas items on Thursday, November 1st. They will be closed November 21st thru November 23rd for the Thanksgiving Holiday. Donations are excepted anytime during operating hours. Also, volunteers are always welcome! We are also accepting donations of paper and plastic bags. Bags can be dropped off at our monthly functions in addition to the Thrift Shop.
& ) ' ' Operation Cookie Drop Nothing says "holidays" like home baked cookies! We would like to provide the warmth of home for our Scott Airmen living in the dorms. Please bake (or buy) as many cookies as you would like to donate and we will make sure they get into the hands (and tummies) of our Airmen! Drop off dates: *Dec 12....members please bring your homemade cookies to the SOSC function *Dec 13...Drop off and packaging will be on base at Chapel 1 from 7:30 am - 9 am and at 9:30 am we will begin the process of bagging the cookies until all cookies are wrapped ! There is no need to wrap the cookies in individual packages. They will be combined with others to ensure everyone gets a festive variety! Arnold Education Grant. Online applications for the 2013-2014 academic year will be available at www.afas.org, after 1 November 2012. The grant provides $2000 to selected dependents of active duty, Title 10 AGR/ Reserve, Title 32 AGR performing full-time active duty, retired, retired reserve and deceased Air Force members; spouses (stateside) of active duty members and Title 10 AGR/Reservists; and surviving spouses of deceased personnel for their undergraduate studies. Sales from Ways & Means so far this year$1543.84; this is almost half way to our goal for the year!
I *:=/ 1=:8 :@= &#& '=0,>@=0= I Year to date, we have collected $6389 in Membership Dues which brings us very close to our budgeted amount. In addition, we collected $1103 in ticket sales at last monthâ&#x20AC;&#x2122;s Make It, Bake It, Fake it social which was more than expected! We also have received $180 in Vendor Table Fees this year. Our expenses are right on track. Thank you everyone!
Income from Thrift Store totals-$2154.68 Air Show Income-$1149.50; we fell shy of our projected income of $2200 since we had to share the booth with another organization Sales from the Cookie Dough so far (Not too late to place your order-Nov 14th at the luncheon is last day)-$975.00 Opportunity income-$152.00 It's never too early to start planning for the Trivia Night fundraiser-start collecting little items for baskets or asking local businesses for a donation for our Silent Auction!
