Horsepower vs. Torque: Understanding the Power Behind Your Car
The terms horsepower and torque get tossed around a lot. While both are essential for performance, they represent two different kinds of power measurement.
What is Horsepower?
Horsepower, is a measure of how quickly your car can do work. More horsepower means your car can accelerate faster and reach higher speeds. In automotive terms, horsepower comes into play at higher RPMs, meaning that if you like to push your car on the highway or track, you’ll notice the difference when you’re high in the rev range.
What is Torque?
Torque, on the other hand, is a measure of rotational force. It’s what gets your car moving from a standstill. Torque is critical for low-speed acceleration and is particularly important for trucks, SUVs, and muscle cars, to shoot off the line with authority. Think of torque as the amount of twist the engine can apply to the wheels.
Horsepower vs. Torque: How They Work Together
To understand the balance, picture a vehicle with 400 lb-ft of torque and 200 horsepower versus a vehicle with 200 lb-ft of torque and 400 horsepower. The first car will feel much quicker off the line, while the second will be more impressive in high-speed scenarios.
Some legendary American muscle cars, like the Dodge Challenger Hellcat, are famous for their balance of horsepower and torque. The Hellcat has a whopping 707 horsepower and 650 lb-ft of torque, giving it both brutal acceleration and top-end speed. …bob

We are excited to share that the magazine is successfully evolving in the digital space, with over 14,000 digital subscribers. Our print circulation remains steady at 3,500 issues. While we are committed to maintaining the legacy of the printed and mailed magazine, we must depend on the financial support required from our subscribers and advertisers to sustain it.
The rising costs of paper, printing, ink, and postage have led us to a pivotal decision. Currently, each issue costs us over $5.30 to produce, yet we charge only $3.33 per magazine, up from $2.50 last year. To break even at today’s costs, the price would need to be $6.00 per issue, which we feel is unsustainable. Therefore, after careful consideration, our partners have agreed on the following changes:
1. Starting November 1, 2024, we will temporarily pause printing until the March 2025 issue.
2. If you have purchased a 12-month subscription, you will still receive 12 print issues.
3. Cruisin Times Magazine will continue as a monthly publication, but it will be digital-only from November to February.
4. The new subscription package will be $40 for 8 editions* in print & digital and 12 digital only editions.

Here is a quick post from the 30th Annual Fairfield Puritan Car Show. This was a great show with almost 200 entries and some smokin’ hot weather. Downtown Columbiana provides an excellent back drop for photos with its vintage facades and clean decorated roadways.
Trophies were awarded to the Top Entries including Antique, Classic, Custom Cars, Trucks and Tractors. The Columbiana Area Merchants donated prizes and there was music playing all afternoon. Stay tuned for more info on next years show!
