Tom Hickman KC practises in public and constitutional law, regulatory law, energy, telecommunications, commercial law, national security, international law (including diplomatic and state immunity issues), media and entertainment and sports law. Tom is highly regarded for both his advocacy and his advisory workandisregularlyinstructedforappellateproceedingsinthe CourtofAppeal,SupremeCourtandPrivyCouncil.
NamedPublicLawSilkoftheYearattheChambersandPartners Bar Awards 2020 and previously included in the country’s “Hot 100” lawyers, Tom’s most prominent cases (of which there are many) include Miller I, Miller II, the Reference by the Lord Advocateondevolutionissuesunderparagraph34ofSchedule6 totheScotlandAct1998andHassanvUnitedKingdom(Grand Chamber)-allcasesofsignificantpublicimportance.
Tom also regularly advises and conducts litigation on behalf of Governments and public authorities, including other Governments (examples include the Scottish Government, the RepublicofCyprus,theGovernmentoftheBahamasandvarious British Overseas Territories) as well as regulatory bodies such as the Competition and Markets Authority and the Advertising StandardsAuthority.
This event is particularly useful for first-year students or those not studying law but soon to be taking the GDL, as it will be a holisticconversationaboutallaspects.ofthestatusofUKLaw.
